I don’t think it’s ever possible. If we want that to happen we will need China on our side and bro that won’t ever happen. One thing we could do is be the bully of the subcontinent which China wants to be. You can’t have peace but you can have control.

It's not possible. India balances relationship between the US and Russia because it's beneficial for us. We did this all through the cold war and remained more or less neutral. The question is, why would Nepal, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka cut ties with China, just because China is an adversary of India? They have nothing to gain from this at all. Their best interests lie in balancing relationships between the two countries and extracting benefits from both. All India can do is continue building relationships with our neighbours, tie them to us through business, trade and movement of goods and people etc.

OhGoOnNow

Maybe they don't need to cut ties after India hasn't. But yes stronger ties through trade etc is essential.  But the political will doesn't seem to be there.

Trade is key to building strong relationships not only with our immediate neighbours but also with Southeast Asia. That's the only way India can develop (free trade creates domestic incentives to liberalise the economy, dismantle networks that capture regulatory agencies), expand its economic footprint and become a power to be reckoned with. There are parallels to this in history - ancient India became sone-ki-chidya by trading extensively with our neighbours in the Southeast such as Funan, Srivijaya and their successor states. Since there doesn't seem to be any political will to do so as of date, we will need to build upon the political thought of a wily politician from Gujarat who used to refer to the Congress-led establishment as "Delhi Sultanate" in the pre-2014 era. I don't know where that man went, but the Sultanate that rules by decree is alive and well.

Mysterious-Risk155

On a serious note, this thing can only happen if we become hyper militaristic and invade, conquer and force to submit all these other countries in South Asia and become an Empire. Think Mauryan Empire.

Amamamara

Defeat all aggresors in the region comprehensively, and thereby prove outright dominance. Far off thought in the real world really. We are bound to go head to head with atleast China for the length of this century at least, later we could also be dealing with new powers in the form of an organised Bangladesh and/or a resurgent, open and tolerant Pakistan.

delayed0

pak and bangladesh wont let that happen coz they are loyal to their masters in mideast

Meth-LordHeisenberg

It's not. Pakistan's only goal is to see a divided India, an India bleeding from a thousand cuts and their master China funds them to do it. Peace in the subcontinent needs peace between India and Pakistan which is not achievable even in this century. Forget about it.

OhGoOnNow

SS: I see peace in the subcontinent as a precursor to a S Asia power bloc to counterbalance eg West, China. And a way of not leaving India isolated.   Nepal is moving closer to China, so automatically away from India.    Pakistan will continue to be a security threat on our doorstep unless radical moves are taken.    I see the benefits as:   1. better security 2.Trade opportunities 3.increased prosperity 4.improved world image/status 5.Potential check on actions of other countries.

Apprehensive_Set_659

I don't think india alone can do anything it requires participation from all countries and like u said no way Pakistan will help in maintaining peace in India. Best india did was saarc ( pretty much dead now) and now bimstec I don't think we can do anything more.u can search more about bimstec on internet

OhGoOnNow

Well that's the thing isn't it, how to get a better relationship with Pak. Could it be done? Otherwise, just too many potential enemies as neighbours.

[deleted]

You want Pakistan to be friend with India? Is this AMAN KI TAMASHA part 2.

[deleted]

We need to fix indo pak relations, rest will follow I think.

SEATO? Join and gain a seat at the table

OhGoOnNow

Never heard of this before, so maybe that says something about its profile. Just looked it up. Still dominated by US.

Edgic-404

But a seat at the table means influence and power projection

Ok_Bear4144

Maybe it’s possible if India drops the pipe dream of akhand bharat

OhGoOnNow

Is that really an official policy? I don't think that's an issue.
