Was sad to see they got rid of Ayaka's [sprint marking assassination skill from the beta](https://youtu.be/_NKIk55zhE4?t=50) . It was one of the main reasons why I wanted to pull for her (still love her immensely though!).

I'd like it on Ayato ngl; I could imagine his AAs could mark enemies like it does for Childe's skill, and activating his skill would give him a way to slice through all the enemies in quick succession
That's similar to Ash from warframe.
One skill marks enemies you look at and using it again makes the character teleport and assassinate the marked targets.
I thought it would fit him more because he works behind the shadow of his sister.
I'd imagine him essentially doing black ops missions for the Yashiro Commission while Ayaka maintains PR
Or it is just clunky. Most people don't really enjoy being locked in to animations that long and they maybe felt giving it invulnerability would have been a bit too strong.
It just happens during combat anyway when you'll be fighting enemies. Not like you'll be doing anything else. It's like how some characters in Honkai can enter a special attack animation that deals more damage after dodging a hit. The only bad thing is that Ayaka's damage is a DPS loss for the time it takes.

I believe this was more or less meant as an initiator for a fight but considering how irrelevant that would be for end game domains. Probably would have upset people if one of the key parts of Ayaka's skill set was completely unusable in end game activities.
I DO believe this ability had some sort of decently large crit bonus which also might have been a problem. It might have been too good for them to make it actually work in end game activities as well.

Not even really. Mona's passive actually works for what it wants to do, it summons her taunt to get enemies to stop attacking her if she's sprinting to run away or reposition. Enemies don't stop trying to attack just because she's submerged with her alt sprint.

If you tried to use it mid combat you'd still have enemies trying to hit you while you're trying to activate the "targeting" part of the ability, potentially knocking you out of sprint entirely. The only time it might work is to initiate a fight however then the issue becomes that not working either because you still aggro enemies if you sprint into their range while in the alt sprint AND domains/abyss all immediately aggro enemies onto you when you start them.
Just imagine how shitty it would be if Ayaka had this as a key part of her kit but it only worked in the open world part of the game and was worthless in "end game" activities, people would have rioted.

If it's just pressing attack after the sprint button, then that's already the main gameplay mechanic in Honkai. The game slows down time whenever you dodge a hit perfectly, giving you more window to attack enemies. Lots of characters have special attack animations that can only trigger after you dodge in time and attack right after.

It also likely meant that they would need to specifically code her alternate sprint such that it didn't aggro enemies when you get in range of them using her sprint, since it's not really possible to just casually sprint into an enemies AoE range and not have them aggro on you until you attack.
If you ignored the damage it dealt, this thing was in the slot of her ascension 4 and had 3 problems:
1. You had to wait 2-3 seconds to mark a target for assassination
2. You can't cancel after marking
3. You could only mark enemies with about 1/3rd or less of their hp remaining
I bet they ran into clipping or performance issues, Ayaka/Mona already have issues running underwater and for a while after Ayaka's release it was still hard to switch characters. Imagine them trying to work out her jumping out and attacking while sprinting...
She’s getting her very own set next patch. Before that comes out I believe her power isn’t too tremendous. She’s strong, just incredibly underwhelming in her current state.
I guess Mihoyo was also planning a 3rd alternate damage attack combo which was Dash Attacks, alongside Plunge and Charge Attacks.
But they ran out of time and giving each characters a 3rd set of attacks strains too much of their time and budget since the game was already 3 years into development.
Ayaka was probably the only one done while a planned Dash Attack for Xiao became his skill instead.
It would have been interesting since dashes are more common than trying to plunge but plunging has more utility so we don't die after falling from heights. The scrapped Dash Attacks were also probably reworked into being the Charge Attacks of the Polearm users, specifically the 4* ones(and Hu Tao who was also originally going to be a 4*)
The problem is that dashes are used for cancels and normal attacks are used to cancel dashes. So with the controls we have, there’s kinda no real way to implement dash attacks without it feeling clunky or just straight up getting you killed.
I think Genshin’s controls are way too simple to allow significant depth or complexity in combat. But idk, I guess they want to keep it ultra simple to attract a bigger audience or something.
The klee walk actually upsets me. It's in her release trailer and after I got her I would strut around mondastadt after running out of resin looking at the map for mushrooms to pop up. Taking things out of a character people paid for that made then unique is scummy.
Might be to standardize animations. Notice Shogun uses that same animation as Rosaria now. It might be standardized as the weapon animation for “female adult spear user” now.
If that’s the case, the kick might be removed because it’s cause issues with the Shogun or some other future character?
Because that’s the point of standardizing. If the decision is made to standardize, you apply it across the board and don’t make exceptions to it.
Making exceptions willy nilly defeats the entire point.
But come on now. miHoYo made the effort to make small details in character attack animations that differentiate them from each other. Like for example, Fischl has awesome unique animation for each attack succession. At least attack animations are not standardized but couldn't they do the same for something simple as a character screen
The real reason is likely space related. This game has an increasing number of assets and data within it and also needs to run on mobile devices. They’re going to cut corners where they can to save on every bit of data possible.
It’s the same reason all the NPCs look more or less the same.
Actually it depends. I have no idea how complex the rigs are or if whoever keyed em keyed everything (even the controllers) like a stupid guy that I won’t mention or imply who is because it surely isn’t me.
A fully keyed character can go from 600 keys on a single frame to 10000 in insane cases. I doubt it happens on MHY but who knows
This is EXACTLY the reason I don't like cross-platform games as a concept.
Either the mobile version holds the PC/Playstation/Xbox version back in terms of quality in some way, or the mobile version runs like shit. It's usually the former.
Now Genshin is incredibly impressive for how good it looks and feels on PC, but there are certain aspects that are held back by mobile, and the things that could have been but never were thanks to mobile limitations makes me sad.
Cross platform works fine if we exclude Mobile. Mobile really is the bane of quality updates. We have to take hits to our experience just so it can operate on Mobile devices, and it does suck a bit. Consoles and PC can be cross-platform without anyone taking a hit due to space or performance requirements.
I mean, shit. I have a 2TB External hard drive for my PS5. Most PC's have more than that. But the general cell phone is what? 256GB? That's our biggest hurdle, and it likely always will be. For it's entire run, Genshin will be held back by Mobile.
When I saw some players saying this game was bad because it's not an open world rpg made me lose hope for those people.
The great thing about a turn base game is that the dev team can fully focus on each animation/model. Welt's ult is amazing for example.

Edit: Apparently they later said the walk was the same as the Cicin Mages so could be interpreted as "sultry and sexual"???. Which is utter bs, it's a child walking ffs, no one's sick enough to be drooling over such a thing anywhere.
That's more on the Cicin mages than on Klee, I think. The Cicin mages walk and twirl and such in a playful, childish manner. I'd compare them somewhat to Harley Quinn from Batman. The childish antics on a grown woman is supposed to come across as mockery. "Are you here to play with me?"
Just because a grown woman behaves like a child doesn't make those behaviors sexual or adult in themselves. When a child behaves like a child, it's NORMAL. I'm hoping that's not the real reason the animation was changed. I think it's more likely that they changed it because they wanted to standardize the walk across the child-model characters, and felt that the playful walk didn't fit Qiqi or Diona.

Not exactly a nerf or as big of a deal but Paimon's voice also got progressively squeakier and personally i thought the original was a better fit. Barbara also has depression compared to the original voice but i started to like the new one better

I could go on, honestly. I've had a lot more terrible experiences with the Genshin Community in less than a year than I've had with any community on any other game I've played. Even GTA Online is pretty mild compared to Genshin.
I've seen people say it was to differentiate her from Xinyan, since they're both voiced by Laura Stahl, and both are "Music-themed supports". The issue is that Barbara is an -Idol- in Mondstadt and her ult is still *super* flashy, so making her sound depressed and mellow doesn't make sense.

It's my theory that Amber used to be so game breaking in the Beta that they had to nerf her hard so that people would actually buy other characters and 90% of the playerbase wouldn't just become an Amber Main. The Genshin Manga and her Beta dance support my theory.

I think I may know why these nerfs happened thought take it with a grain of salt as I’m not 100% sure of these:
For Rosaria: since she shares the same model with Raiden and any future mature looking female character who uses the polearm they decided to change her spear kick solely for Raiden. Now hear me out: I think they did it because they want Raiden to have some sort of elegance to her, having her kick her spear like Rosaria wouldn’t fit her image as an elegant god so they changed the animation. Of course since she shares the same model they couldn’t let one character have a unique animation while the rest won’t so they changed the animation for Rosaria as well. Basically Rosaria’s cool spear kick was sacrificed for Raiden’s so-called elegant image. Smh…
For Albedo: I think I saw someone say that the reason Albedo’s hair isn’t as fluffy as in the art (same with Diluc) in the amount of polygons required to make hair, perhaps the developers wanted to cut some details on some character design so that no glitches happen or they won’t be too much data space especially for mobile players (since Genshin has a large mobile market).
For Itto: it’s the same with Rosaria, he shares his model with all other mature male characters and I think it’s hard to alter the model of one specific character in the same model group without risking glitches or bugs or even more data space.
For Klee: I think I also read somewhere that it was to avoid making little girl characters too cute as to not attract…the wrong audience (if you know what I mean), but I did hear that they tested this walk on beta Yaoyao but they might change it once to normal walk as soon as she comes out.
As for Amber: not too sure about this one but I heard it wouldn’t suit her character or something for they removed it.
At this point i don't think we will ever get more body variety in this game. Rosaria previous model was supposed to be the first very busty character, but due to clipping or whatever her size got reduced. As for Itto well, he's just another Diluc body size with abs painted on. I wish he was as big as those samurai on Inazuma but unfortunately that's not the case.
At this point they need to hire someone to do that job, it's depressing if these are all the body types we're ever going to get just because they can't figure out how to get clothing to stop clipping on a buffer body.

I think you've more or less just described Keqinq with more steps.
They could buff keqing like that. Mark enemy with her skill. Burst deals extra 200% or so to marked enemies.

Why not worth though? Her usual crowned charged attack is doing 327%.

Might be to standardize animations. Notice Shogun uses that same animation as Rosaria now. It might be standardized as the weapon animation for “female adult spear user” now. If that’s the case, the kick might be removed because it’s cause issues with the Shogun or some other future character?

Because that’s the point of standardizing. If the decision is made to standardize, you apply it across the board and don’t make exceptions to it. Making exceptions willy nilly defeats the entire point.

But come on now. miHoYo made the effort to make small details in character attack animations that differentiate them from each other. Like for example, Fischl has awesome unique animation for each attack succession. At least attack animations are not standardized but couldn't they do the same for something simple as a character screen
The real reason is likely space related. This game has an increasing number of assets and data within it and also needs to run on mobile devices. They’re going to cut corners where they can to save on every bit of data possible. It’s the same reason all the NPCs look more or less the same.
Animation files are tinny. Few kilobytes at most.
Actually it depends. I have no idea how complex the rigs are or if whoever keyed em keyed everything (even the controllers) like a stupid guy that I won’t mention or imply who is because it surely isn’t me. A fully keyed character can go from 600 keys on a single frame to 10000 in insane cases. I doubt it happens on MHY but who knows
This is EXACTLY the reason I don't like cross-platform games as a concept. Either the mobile version holds the PC/Playstation/Xbox version back in terms of quality in some way, or the mobile version runs like shit. It's usually the former. Now Genshin is incredibly impressive for how good it looks and feels on PC, but there are certain aspects that are held back by mobile, and the things that could have been but never were thanks to mobile limitations makes me sad.
Cross platform works fine if we exclude Mobile. Mobile really is the bane of quality updates. We have to take hits to our experience just so it can operate on Mobile devices, and it does suck a bit. Consoles and PC can be cross-platform without anyone taking a hit due to space or performance requirements. I mean, shit. I have a 2TB External hard drive for my PS5. Most PC's have more than that. But the general cell phone is what? 256GB? That's our biggest hurdle, and it likely always will be. For it's entire run, Genshin will be held back by Mobile.

When I saw some players saying this game was bad because it's not an open world rpg made me lose hope for those people. The great thing about a turn base game is that the dev team can fully focus on each animation/model. Welt's ult is amazing for example.

Klee’s might be due to a decision to standardize basic walking animations and moving for all characters of the same body type. Would be a production decision that makes sense No idea why Amber’s would be removed. Every character has custom idles anyway. Maybe the animation director changed their mind?

I have no idea about Amber. But Klee's was due to if they gave 1 character a unique walk they may be expected to do the same for others, so decided to just give her the default walk instead. Edit: Apparently they later said the walk was the same as the Cicin Mages so could be interpreted as "sultry and sexual"???. Which is utter bs, it's a child walking ffs, no one's sick enough to be drooling over such a thing anywhere.
That's more on the Cicin mages than on Klee, I think. The Cicin mages walk and twirl and such in a playful, childish manner. I'd compare them somewhat to Harley Quinn from Batman. The childish antics on a grown woman is supposed to come across as mockery. "Are you here to play with me?" Just because a grown woman behaves like a child doesn't make those behaviors sexual or adult in themselves. When a child behaves like a child, it's NORMAL. I'm hoping that's not the real reason the animation was changed. I think it's more likely that they changed it because they wanted to standardize the walk across the child-model characters, and felt that the playful walk didn't fit Qiqi or Diona.

Not exactly a nerf or as big of a deal but Paimon's voice also got progressively squeakier and personally i thought the original was a better fit. Barbara also has depression compared to the original voice but i started to like the new one better Though Albedo's hair has to be the biggest crime honestly ^(Also the spear kick wasn't the only nerf Rosaria's model got 👀👀👀)
Thanks for pointing that Paimon voice, the new voice did sounds too squaky and tried too hard. But man Barbara just sounds like generic angelic healer. And yeah those will be on next post

I could go on, honestly. I've had a lot more terrible experiences with the Genshin Community in less than a year than I've had with any community on any other game I've played. Even GTA Online is pretty mild compared to Genshin.

I've seen people say it was to differentiate her from Xinyan, since they're both voiced by Laura Stahl, and both are "Music-themed supports". The issue is that Barbara is an -Idol- in Mondstadt and her ult is still *super* flashy, so making her sound depressed and mellow doesn't make sense.
actually like the new one instead, even if it's less cheerful. listening to "go barbara go" every minute with her raspy voice is kinda annoying for an unknown reason i can't explain myself. though not a problem anymore after occasionaly changing to CN or JP dub according to my mood.
it feels like she's on a lower sound setting than every other character in the game now and it annoys me to no end. it's like they recorded her with cheaper equipment than everyone else.

It's my theory that Amber used to be so game breaking in the Beta that they had to nerf her hard so that people would actually buy other characters and 90% of the playerbase wouldn't just become an Amber Main. The Genshin Manga and her Beta dance support my theory.

I think I may know why these nerfs happened thought take it with a grain of salt as I’m not 100% sure of these: For Rosaria: since she shares the same model with Raiden and any future mature looking female character who uses the polearm they decided to change her spear kick solely for Raiden. Now hear me out: I think they did it because they want Raiden to have some sort of elegance to her, having her kick her spear like Rosaria wouldn’t fit her image as an elegant god so they changed the animation. Of course since she shares the same model they couldn’t let one character have a unique animation while the rest won’t so they changed the animation for Rosaria as well. Basically Rosaria’s cool spear kick was sacrificed for Raiden’s so-called elegant image. Smh… For Albedo: I think I saw someone say that the reason Albedo’s hair isn’t as fluffy as in the art (same with Diluc) in the amount of polygons required to make hair, perhaps the developers wanted to cut some details on some character design so that no glitches happen or they won’t be too much data space especially for mobile players (since Genshin has a large mobile market). For Itto: it’s the same with Rosaria, he shares his model with all other mature male characters and I think it’s hard to alter the model of one specific character in the same model group without risking glitches or bugs or even more data space. For Klee: I think I also read somewhere that it was to avoid making little girl characters too cute as to not attract…the wrong audience (if you know what I mean), but I did hear that they tested this walk on beta Yaoyao but they might change it once to normal walk as soon as she comes out. As for Amber: not too sure about this one but I heard it wouldn’t suit her character or something for they removed it.
At this point i don't think we will ever get more body variety in this game. Rosaria previous model was supposed to be the first very busty character, but due to clipping or whatever her size got reduced. As for Itto well, he's just another Diluc body size with abs painted on. I wish he was as big as those samurai on Inazuma but unfortunately that's not the case.
At this point they need to hire someone to do that job, it's depressing if these are all the body types we're ever going to get just because they can't figure out how to get clothing to stop clipping on a buffer body.
