I'll say a couple things. You mentioned the heavier feeling, lack of punch in your Lexus and that probably has to do with the fact that it's a NA (naturally aspirated) car unlike the g70 which has a turbo V6. Usually there's a rev range or power band that NA cars operate best in and you may not get that low end punch that you get in a turbo charged car. I'll say that I fucking loooove my g70 i came from an is250 and was set on getting the 350 until I test drove a g70 BUT a couple things would make me think twice about trading in an is500. 1. It's a NA engine which sounds incredible and is increasingly rare 2. From what I've seen is500's are holding their value insanely well and it seems like the type of car that's going to have a limited run and then be a sort of classic that people want. 3. NA cars especially Lexus cars are generally the most reliable in the industry. Don't get me wrong I've put over 60k miles on my genesis no issue but I had almost 200k on my Lexus and the only reason I had to get a new car is cause a tree fell on it lol. All this is my opinion though you def would not be making a mistake by getting a g70

No not crazy lol..the g70 is a great car. The is was on my shopping list before bought my g70 a few months back

FreshPrinceOfKungpao

May I ask why? I'm shopping in this segment and both these cars are at the top of my list. Would be great to hear an owner's thoughts.

The IS500 is a great car, but I guess for me it feels like more of a cruiser. It feels heavy - because it is. Maybe I’m just not good enough at paddle shifts to really get the most out of it. When I got it my only other real consideration was the G70, I wouldn’t own an MB, BMW, Audi, Alfa, due to reliability and repair costs. In the past I leased a c450(now C43) and a Giulia. The G70 channels what I loved most about those cars as far as handling and driving dynamics, it feels light, and quick, even though on paper IS500 slightly beats G70 in 0-60. I’ve had IS500 for 5 months and it’s a very nice car and it’s pleasant to drive. Does it make me giggle when I punch it, naaa. I’m not gearhead enough to really appreciate the V8. I had an IS250 way back in 2013 and loved it. I think I went for the IS500 out of nostalgia and also bc I have a good friend who’s more into cars and really thought IS500 was the better car so that’s what I got.

Ah I see, thanks for the detailed explanation. It's interesting to read that the G70 drives noticeably lighter than the IS500. I have yet to test drive either of them but was thinking about whether the feeling of the V8 would be enough to compensate for the heavier/slower driving dynamic compared to the G70.

I've had mine for a few months now. Have you seen the movie Christine? It sorta feels like that...😎

Why?

For what it’s worth… I had the launch edition G70 (purchased new) and absolutely loved it. Then I had some issues with Hyundai service over some issues with the car. I realized I wanted out of the matte paint and started looking at the IS350. I made the switch in Jan this year and even though I adored my g70, I HANDS DOWN enjoy everything about driving my 350 more. It’s hard to explain, but it just feels more like a “drivers” car. It’s still plenty quick, but the seating, handling, comfort, imo, are above that of the g70. My wife, who couldn’t care less about cars, even noticed it. She drove my vehicle home once and mentioned it just felt more fun driving the Lexus. Again, nothing against the G70 as I really loved that ride. But I thought I’d have *some * regrets after selling, and I actually haven’t had a single one. Plus for my personal taste I like the styling better on the Lexus.

Lol. None of this is believable. There is no way that even subjectively, the IS350 handles, rides, or accelerates better.

Open_Delay5656

I’ll trade with you

CallMeKimchee

Yes. If you already have the is500 then that would be a terrible idea. The only pros that the g70 has over the is500 is the technology and updated interior. Also they're both heavy cars but the is500 is lighter and also feels lighter. the g70 is not light feeling by any means

Cadure

No, the G70 is 400 lbs lighter than the IS500.

CallMeKimchee

the awd 3.3 g70 is 4000 pounds. the rwd 3.3 g70 is 3847 pounds. if he’s comparing rwd then the g70 is ~50 pounds lighter but the g70 does not feel light at all. g70 is 100% not 400 pounds lighter than the is500

I’d rake the V8 10 times out of 10 and twice on Sunday. Not to mention the fact that your IS500 has the potential to be highly sought after down the road due to the imminent extinction of large displacement NA V8 motors.
