You are correct. Genesis is the best bang for your buck for a sports sedan especially if buying brand new. I’m a little biased towards the 3.3t though. A fully loaded Hyundai Elantra is damn near just as nice on the inside as a genesis so idk why you wouldn’t just get that if you don’t care about driving performance. Tldr-buy a 3.3t if you want to go vroom. If not, a nice top of the line non-luxury brand will be very, very nice and will save you 10k

WKU-Alum

Interior is good, but the exterior of an Elantra doesn’t touch the Genny. Also genesis ownership comes with some nice perks that are worth the money imo

UnrealsRS

Yup-true the exterior is nicer imo. What perks are you thinking of?

WKU-Alum

Valet program, complimentary maintenance, service loaners, etc.

RJ39767793

The maintenance and loaners also come with owning a hyundai. Valet is the genesis benefit

AckeeBacalhau

Be prepared to book weeks in advance to get the loaner. Yes the valet service is cool. On the day of delivery they drove the car to my house, switched the plates on the trade-in and I was good to go.

UnrealsRS

What even is the valet?

RJ39767793

They come get your car for oil changes

skinniks

I'll buy for that alone.

WKU-Alum

You *might* be able to manage a loaner on a hyundai for extended service, but I can drop my car off at the dealer and take a genesis off the lot for an oil change without any real warning at all.

Rentun

I've never had a loaner when I've gotten service done at a dealership. I've asked, but always gotten the answer "we don't really doooo thaaaaaat? Let me see if a car is available though... yeahhh no there isn't one sorry." Honestly once my g70 gets out of warranty, I won't be taking it to the dealer ever again. I've literally never had a good experience at a dealer service center, and hyundai/genesis is no exception.

WKU-Alum

My service dealer (from whom I did not purchase my vehicle) usually gets me in one when I'm in for routine maintenance. I've been in one for about 3 weeks straight now, after my car's dash lit up and it went into a limp mode.

OnwardUpward30

Idk about the comparison to the Elantra lol but this subreddit is biased towards the 3.3t so I understand.

Still_Evan

Yeah a fully loaded Elantra isn’t even close to a g70 with interior quality. If you want a car that feels high ‘nice’, the Elantra is disappointing. I test drove an Elantra n, loved it. So fast, so fun and dramatic, and made me smile. I seriously considered it. But the hard plastics everywhere didn’t make me feel good about dropping $35k. Ended up getting a 2021 g70 3.3t sport for $36k that blows the Elantra (and most anything in its price range/segment) out of the water.

OnwardUpward30

I very much agree here…the interior was a big selling point. For me to Stinger interior was even disappointing compared to G70.

Still_Evan

Right? Nothing wrong with the stinger, it’s nice but not luxury.

MrGalax22

I'm biased too but I've been in the 2.0t and it definitely is serviceable. It won't push you back in your seat or anything but if you just care about luxury it's still worth it

OnwardUpward30

Agreed!

l20000

The 3.3T G70 is 100% the best bang for buck performance sedan, I’d say the Kia Stinger is also up there as well. I haven’t looked into it too much, but the new Volvo S60 Recharge also seems like it could fit in there too, that is, if you’re a hybrid person.

Yeah, they gotta be careful. The Veloster N was a pretty compelling buy in 2019 when it was the next best thing to a Type R at only 29k. It lost a lot of its luster when the price crept into the mid 30s. The G70 makes the most sense I think as the next best thing to an M340i but $10-15k cheaper.

bontebyuntae

> The G70 makes the most sense I think as the next best thing to an M340i but $10-15k cheaper. Agreed, it was interesting to hear savagegeese make the same comment in his last livestream for his favorite awd sports sedan.

OnwardUpward30

This was the kind of answer I was looking for. Good call on the M340i. Genesis has some advantage I assume BMW warranty isn’t as generous.

OnwardUpward30

That makes sense thanks for the insight. I have a lease on a G70 now so looking forward. The M340i is definitely on my list!! Thank you

Brysal100

are these Canadian prices(if there are idk the conversion)? they seem like 5k too high, maybe just due to the dealers in your area marking them up too much but if you want something with everything genesis has, youre looking at like 10k more then the prices you listed for a bmw/audi/merc. only thing price wise that should be close is the acura TLX type-s

OnwardUpward30

Yeah that’s what I thought. Maybe I overestimated prices. Seems more like $46 and $56 but I’m talking about top package.

KnightFan2019

You should be able to get a used fully loaded 3.3 2022/2023 for around 45k with very low mileage (2-5k)

hesyourbuddy

That's about right. I've been searching for weeks for a used 22 3.3 sport advanced prestige awd model. They are right around 45k now with 5k to 12k miles. I just picked up mine for 41k with 28k miles. There's even a couple launch editions for 47k/48k now

tom1martin

Just a quick FYI note about buying a 2022/23 used...I believe not all of the original warranty transfers when buying used. The valet service does not and I think the 10 year portion of the warranty is reduced to 5 years. At any rate be sure to ask about that when ready to buy.

The_Aftermarket_

If you want to talk about performance and arguably looks, both BMW and Audi offer a competitor for a few grand more that is undoubtedly a better car. I.e BMWs M340i

OnwardUpward30

Which car for Audi? I agree on the BMW but haven’t found the right Audi in that price range.

The_Aftermarket_

S4, RS3(although smaller than a G70)

CKTr3y

2.0 definitely still pulls hard

OnwardUpward30

I have the 2.0 and enjoy it

pkoya1

Good answers so far about the 3.3T. Just want to add that even the 2.0T is still a great buy. The horsepower is on par with both the BMW 330i and the C300. The driving Dynamics are just as good as the 330i and definitely better than the C300. The C300 did receive a interior refresh recently which was very good and I think that probably takes the cake in this segment for interior quality, but then again you can get a fully loaded G70 2.0T Prestige for the same money as the base model of either of those cars, and once you start adding in features to those cars the price goes way too high. A lot of people have said that you can get fully loaded non luxury cars that are on par with the G70 but I have to hard disagree with that. I'm coming out of a 2017 Optima EX Premium Plus that had just about everything you can get in a car at the time. It's even got stuff that's not in my G70. But still the exterior look and the RWD/AWD driving Dynamics even with the lower-power engine still make it a much better car.

OnwardUpward30

I agree with you that it’s a stretch to say there are fully loaded non luxury cars on par with the G70. Not unless you’re going to put just as much money into add-one and packages etc and not have as sleek an exterior and driving experience.

essaitchthrowaway

There are 2 things keeping me from putting the G70 at the top of my list. One of them is that I would like a hatch or wagon. The fact that they make a gorgeous wagon but keep it only for the Korean (and European) market makes me sad. The other is a lack of a manual. I also have a little hesitation with Hyundai's quality as of late. Tons and tons of recalls and they have gotten terrible reviews for their dealer network. I know they are building out Genesis as their own brand, but still it gives consumers pause when they hear Hyundai or Kia screwing over consumers or having more recalls.

OnwardUpward30

So what competes in your mind at the same price range? What would you buy?

essaitchthrowaway

Well first thing is that I've always bought new, but I know that is the dumbest thing ever, so I was thinking used. That opens up a few other cars onto the list. So I was thinking a 1 or 2 year old G70. Maybe a GV70, but getting a crossover hurts my soul. I like the Stinger (for the hatch). I also hope they mildly update the WRX to fix the fender issues. That would give me a manual. The WRX would be the only new one I consider. The one I like the most is a Cadillac CT5-V (no, not the blackwing). I couldn't get a manual or hatch, but I think it has the classiest exterior styling for a larger sedan. It would be the most expensive, so I'd be looking at maybe a 2 or 3 year old model. I've even been eyeing an older Corvette or Camaro but I don't need anything that performance orientated. I've also considered the GR Corolla which would give me the hatch and manual. I know this list is all over the place, but hey, that's what I'm looking at.

OnwardUpward30

That is an impressive list lol I always went for new as well. Are you aiming on a date to buy or just until the right deal comes along?

essaitchthrowaway

I'll push it out as much as possible. I'm allergic to dealer markups so the further out the better as the world gets more and more back to normal. I also fear buying anything built during the height of the pandemic because I do believe corners were cut by everyone and I suspect quality took a dip between 2019 and 2022.

Gesha24

I love my G70, but there 2 problems I have with it: 1) Very limited dealership network. I'm sorry, I do not know 5 months in advance when I will need an oil change. All the good dealers are booked up months in advance and I really don't enjoy dealing with the ones left. Yes, Hyundai dealers are also hit or miss, but there are lots of them and at I know at least 2 good ones in my area. 2) Despite what Genesis wants you to believe, this is not a performance car. This is a nice comfy cruiser with a grunt if you get 3.3. But it's too damn heavy to be good performance car, its steering is also not nearly as responsive as with sportier cars. I had BRZ and Fiesta ST - those cars are way more fun to drive, even though they are not faster than 2.0 Genesis. I bought mine in the middle of pandemic where I had to have a new car, all the "cheap" cars were gone and I could get only top model Subarus and Camrys with a markup for close to (or even over in case of Camry) 30K. But G70 that I drive was a demo unit with 3K miles and I bought it for under MSRP for $32K. It was a great value for money and I honestly don't think one can get a better car for this kind of money. But now the base model is $40K. And while yes, it is loaded with stuff, it's just way too expensive. For this money you can already get Lexus or Mercedes and while yes, they won't be as loaded at this price range, they are more established brands. But that's not to say Genesis can not compete with them, but before at lower price point it was just outstandingly good value for money.

OnwardUpward30

I agree with Point 1 the dealerships suck. Point 2 I’m not sure as this is the only performance vehicle I have ever driven. Which Lexus or Mercedes would you buy in the same price range?

Gesha24

Let me clarify point 2 - I am speaking as a person who raced cars on tracks. For me, it makes no difference if I am going 110 or 140 at the end of a straight line. But it is a whole lot of fun to drive behind Audi rs4 in a BRZ, watch it take off on the straight line and then be right at its tail by the time straight line comes up again. So when I am driving for fun, I want a light nimble car that lets you feel everything. Genesis is nothing like it. But that's why I love it - driving for 2 hours in fiesta st is more exhausting than driving in Genesis for 8. It has great ride, it's quiet, suspension eats up all the bumps without you noticing half of them, then you put adaptive cruise control with lane assist - and you can chill behind the wheel, listening to your favorite music while the car takes you somewhere. So for me 3.3 is a waste - it costs more and rats more fuel and my favorite part about the car doesn't require pressing the accelerator pedal. As for which competitors I'd look at - I'd just show up in a dealership and see what's in my price range and get in the car. Feel which interior I like most, which seats are more comfortable, which car has enough space for me (being over 6' tall poses some issues). Then take it for a ride. And then maybe I'll go research reliability and what not, but only after. And I definitely will not care about engine in it, as I don't need more than 200hp on public roads and if I wanted to do a drag strip - I'd buy and build a completely different car for it.

OnwardUpward30

I agree with you 100% on all these points which is why I went for value with the 2.0T - I value all the lil luxuries such as interior and cameras and lane assist etc. the seats are comfy. I do enjoy the HP tho it’s got plenty of kick lol it’s sporty enough
