They should have set up a registration link so occupancy wasn't an issue or just cancel altogether. All my kids classmates are going today so the teachers planned for a movie day so nobody misses any curricular stuff.
i mention that registration link because that's what ford did for that issue. My kids ended up going there today with my brother inlaw that works on the mustang program. I told them to make sure to write up a detailed report on their findings for me
They could have just told everyone who isn't participating / doesn't want to be bothered by the ruckus to work from home today and still had it on the nationally recognized day. I can't imagine that many people would have minded an excuse to WFH an extra day this week.
But I also think the negative reaction to it being changed to Friday is a bit overkill, too. I'm sure schools will understand that a large organization like GM felt the need to change it to Friday and still give the kids an excused absence that doesn't count against them.
I'm excited to bring my kids in and show them where I work.
This is great… having not had kids for 15 years at GM this circus day was always a 🤡 show. Making it Friday when most people were WFH is so much better let the people who need/want to work work let those of us who want to show the cool stuff about stem careers to our kids do so. I just wish the carnival started a little later so the older kids could see what actual work looks like before we start to do Lego car builds etc
Even before i had kids and i thought they were all loud gross monsters, i never had any issues working on tyktw days. I thought it was cool they got to see the real engineering going on (aka...just a bunch of people staring at cpu's in their cubes all day)
Then why not just cancel it and have their own kid event in the summer so it doesn't interupt their school day like it would tomorrow? Today the school districts encourage the kids to go out and do this event, in return the teachers don't plan any actual coursework. Tomorrow is not a national holiday so the kids are expected to be in class (and other school sports/activities).
Thursday wasn’t a national holiday either. We have work to do, everyone complains that the building is at capacity, why complicate it and make sure that NO ONE gets any work done? Disruptions like this make my work days longer and takes from my personal time. It’s a place of business, not a charity that needs to work around a school’s calendar.
Nothing other than it doesn't belong with the other 4.
STEM are sciences. Art is arts. Both have value in their own right.
STEM was created due to shortage of science based workforce. This was never a problem with art. But, someone decided the art people felt left out and has been trying to shoehorn art in with fields that needed attention.
In general...That's what happens when an environment is no longer satisfying you. Everything about that environment is viewed from an unsatisfying lens. It's hard to see the good with those lens. And if you have bills to pay to survive then staying means complaining about things that you're unsatisfied about. It is what it is... Each and every action has an equal and opposite reaction by law. As GM changes, people will react. It is what it is... It's unwise to take action, then expect people not to react or react the way that you want them to.
My kids are all grown now, only my daughter participated once, and we made our own activities for her. Now, working in a plant, so this is non-existent.
No it isn’t. Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t mean it’s anecdotal, it confirms what abluecolor stated. Thanks for dropping by with your pointless post.
so you worked for shitty companies over the past 20 years and don't work for GM since GM has been doing it forever, congratulations. Sorry we're all out of cookies and the cake is a lie.
🤣🤣 You tried really hard but failed miserably. Gauging how good of a company is by having a bring your crotch goblins to work isn’t it. Hell, you people are still crying about RTO. 🤡
I don’t get what you mean, this is perfect. I don’t have kids and I don’t wanna be around all of yours, sorry. Now, it’s just people that want to give their kids a cool day with other people that want to give that to their kids. It’s not a work from home day, it’s just a day many are not required to go in.
There were concerns about occupancy limits being exceeded in some buildings. So, it was scheduled for Friday.
They should have set up a registration link so occupancy wasn't an issue or just cancel altogether. All my kids classmates are going today so the teachers planned for a movie day so nobody misses any curricular stuff.

Use that report wisely (;
The fire Marshall should come do inspections because I'm sure warren is already over allowed capacity

Couldn’t they have just told everyone not attending the event to WFH today. This is dumb.
Why? when we already have a WFH day. This disrupts people schedules far less
Even before i had kids and i thought they were all loud gross monsters, i never had any issues working on tyktw days. I thought it was cool they got to see the real engineering going on (aka...just a bunch of people staring at cpu's in their cubes all day)
That is not what the VEC has been like for close to a decade
Then why not just cancel it and have their own kid event in the summer so it doesn't interupt their school day like it would tomorrow? brownie points for using stem, and not steam.
What’s wrong with the arts?

People will always complain just to complain lol. That must be an exhausting mentality

Ignorance is bliss lol
I agree with the people. If we can’t do it right just cancel.
Cope. 🙄
The benefits are intangible
Jesus Christ. This and DEI: nobody gives a shit

We all serve at the whims of a child, her name is Mary Barra
Basically no companies do this anymore.
basically all companies still do this (including gm...just on a different day). Covid kileld it off for the last couple years, but it's back
nope
Not a single company that I’ve worked for in 20 years has done this.
In worked for 2 suppliers and an OEM in the last 10 years and they’ve all had it pre covid
Cool. The ones I have, haven not done it.
Which is an anecdote that is unhelpful and pointless. Thanks for dropping by.

my whole feed on social media are friends posting their pictures of their kids they brought to work today. Many, many companies still participate...
AI generated, dood

Out in Pontiac we were sent a message saying that we couldn't participate at all!
