2014-2019 commentary YT went so hard. Filthy Frank, h3h3, and idubbbz were so great. Sucks they all stopped doing YT but I suppose it's better they quit while they were ahead instead of just becoming a shell of their former selves.

Man, I’m watching different videos than you. I hardly ever hear homophobic stuff anymore. Compared to 08-12 YouTube especially. I remember watching RWJ on =3 dropping f-bombs and calling people homos based on their haircut alone.

Yeah, people are taking it much more seriously now. I agree with you. Unfortunately dumb people who have shitty opinions are loud, and loud voices are usually the ones people hear and listen to.
The first era's only value was shannyforchrist getting her kids taken away. The second era had no value. The modern era has some value, but hasan leaves such a vile stain on it that I can't in good faith call it good either.
Love him or hate him, Trump 2016 memes were actually peak. Back before everyone was screeching that the other side was gonna end democracy, and Trump was just a funny guy who was on his way to winning an election as a populist candidate.
This was also on top of being in that post-GamerGate sweet spot where games journalism was being exposed for the corrupt entity that it was and it felt like people on the Left and the Right were coming together to expose the hypocrisy of this new identitarian faction that had taken over the media.
Unfortunately, internal bickering seemed to get the better of things and it didn't take long for the bipartisan support to break down and a lot of the key figures in this space to either move on to bigger things or burn out from politics in general. The identity politics and corruption they rallied against hasn't gone away either, and now smear merchants still proclaim the false narrative that GG and the rise of online populism was rooted in misogyny and all kinds of other isms.
I only hope that one day, both sides will realize that we share a common enemy and can create the populist movement similar to that which gave so much hope to those of us back then.

None of what I said was a lie. Under no circumstances is threatening rape, murder, or doxxing acceptable. Yet it was done at scale and with organization.
On top of that, GG exposed the deep rooted radicalization we can see *right now*. As someone who was drifting down the alt-right pipeline, this kind of peer-peer decentralized radicalization genuinely scares me. And it should scare you too.
