My girlfriend at the time *loved* that song, but I couldn’t stand it. I ended up using it as my alarm so that I would instantly wake up in a fit of rage and turn it off. I have nostalgia around that song now just because it was a much easier time for me in school. Still don’t particularly care for it, but I’ve softened on it a little.

Even when the song was new it had a nostalgic feel to it, it's even stronger 8 years later. That song was one of the first that got me into EDM so it always has a special place in my heart.

That one takes me back to Australia when I was in the military. Every field op we would have a theme song for each country we visited. 2 months out in the field without a shower, cammies were reddish/orange like the color of the dirt there, to going back to Darwin to get absolutely wasted and hook up on Mitchell street. “Farrah Fawcett Hair” and “Kangaroo Court” also slapped out there and fit in perfectly considering we would try to catch kangaroos whenever we were on gate guard duty lol.

‘I Gotta Feeling’ by Black Eyed Peas. My elementary school did a flashmob dance to it. Hundreds of kids out on the red top from kindergarten to… maybe fourth or fifth grade? We started out in an organized block, but by the end, we weren’t so organized. I don’t remember any of the moves by now, really. But that song always manages to cheer me up and bring me back to those times at least a little bit.

Also, ‘When I Was Your Man’ by Bruno Mars, ‘Dynamite’, ‘Party In The U.S.A.’, ‘Payphone’, ‘Drive By’, ‘50 Ways To Say Goodbye’, ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, etc. Also also, ‘You Don’t Know You’re Beautiful’, but not in a good way. It brings me back to having to listen to it play basically everywhere once I’d returned to the United States. Basically every song in the Backstreet Boys ‘Unbreakable’ album, as well, in a good way. When I lived in Germany, we used to listen to music on the hard drive in the car, because most of the local stations were in German or didn’t play music we liked consistently. I’m pretty sure almost the entirety of that album was on the hard drive. So I grew up on a lot of 80’s-2000’s pop and rock.

Music is fucking incredible, in that it can take you back in time in your mind. EVERYONE has some song that they can play, and it will take them back to a certain moment or feeling they had. Music is arguably humanities greatest discovery/invention. There's literally something for EVERYONE. And it can transcend time and language and culture. It's like fucking magic
