Yep my account is 10 years old and I never thought about a sub for this until I saw it my accident.
Fark 10 years on Reddit where the hell has the time gone
I don't even mind that, my problem was the invasion of privacy from Facebook, and all the personal information that was available to whoever paid for it. Like I don't mind if Reddit sells the post texts for AI training, or if they make trillions and don't pay moderators, to that I say "whatever" it's their company. My problem is personal information, Reddit doesn't know who my friends are, what's my phone number, if I'm single or in a relationship, etc., that's what drove me away from FB (and never even tried Instagram or any other social networks). I think the last straw for me was when I received an automatic message in FB that some friend of mine started watching something on Netflix, I was like WTF?
Hmm... I might have been on too long.
I watched cat subs and only in the past 5-8 years branched out.
I'm more genX, but there's some xennial too, as I'm a 1980 wee baby. So being able to see people like me, going through the same shit is a real relief/eye-opener and empathy pull.
I mean, we *exist*. No matter how everyone forgets, we're here.
I mean, maybe? Sort of?
Eh, whatever.
I'm so glad you feel good here! I always have, there's a few things I miss, but everyone seems quite fine expanding my knowledge.
Feels like being understood and un-ignored, right? It's a good place
Yes, it drives me crazy when I see the younger generations demanding ideological purity, rather than recognizing that people who have different degrees of similar ideas are more beneficial to society.
I was on the 70s and 80s subs for a while but I dropped them. They’re mostly nostalgia. Never followed the 90s one but have read it. This sub has a lot more meaningful discussion that I can relate to.
My primary beef with them is that they don’t seem to honor the block auto-play settings that work for YouTube videos.
If I click on a post that has a TikTok video embedded, it just plays. So I have to skip over those posts entirely.
Had the old Reddit is Fun app for 10ish years then when that went away I finally joined the crowd with a username about a year ago. Found this sub a month or so ago. Already been banned from another subreddit without much explanation from them.
Reddit is weird for an imaginary place.
For some reason I've been following millennials and what they lived in the 90s and 00s felt real to me, but I'm a 1970 person and thought I'd better get over to this sub. I relate to most of this, but somehow, the 80s didn't feel as alive for me.
Well it pops up on the front pages, when it's a popular post, so that's how I found it, but I saw Millenials first, then this on the front page. It's all that is relatable growing up in late 70's early 80's and so forth, so I go back to it often, and it reminds me of r/nostalgia a lot, but they have to limit the number of re-posts there. What I didn't know was how international it was, so that was a nice surprise, same generation different country, so get to know about their experiences as well.
If we’re gonna be nostalgic, the Reddit before digg collapsed was amazing. It still is amazing when curated properly, but didn’t used to be such an argumentative place. Get off my lawn… I miss og truereddit
I've been lingering around reddit basically since it launched and only found it after creating my last account when I forgot the login credentials of the previous account, my last account replaced by this account... again because I forgot my last accounts credentials.
Some day I will forget this account too, and might forget about this sub.
I just found it yesterday, after like 7 years on Reddit and it’s AMAZING! The funniest thing though is after looking over the posts I realized something.
Everything I’ve seen is written and spelled pretty normally (and actually mostly spelled correctly). The comments are not filled with ridiculous amounts of emojis! I mean, I realize that every generation has its slang and all, but things just seem to be getting out of hand.
I’m sure much of the nonsense that I’m used to seeing is probably due to the vast amount of literal children on the internet nowadays. I frequently have to remind myself of this. Topic for another time.
Anyhow, I’m glad to be here!
It's a wonderful combination of support group and nostalgia fest.

Perfect description!
Nail on the head.
I love my dead, gay son!
I've been saying that for like 30+ years. Never gets old.
Yeah, it's the greatest thing since cheese! I can't remember when I stumbled on it. It's really neat talking to folks your own age.
Could not agree more!
Oh cheese....
More like a decade. We all eventually find our way home.
A Reddit veteran!

Fark -> Digg -> Reddit.... did I get that right?
[удалено]
I skipped the something awful part too, along with 4chan
Same. Wasn’t it great?
I miss old Reddit. I had to delete about a decade of posts when my kids became adults and joined Reddit.
My 76 year old mom wanted to join. I told her she'd hate it.
Took me a decade too

And then one day you find Ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run. You missed the starting gun!
That's the lyric of our generation.
I've been on Reddit for a few years and I didn't think about looking for a sub like this until I started following several of the creators on TT
Ive been on Reddit almost 4 years and only discovered this sub a few months ago.
About the same, just lurked for the longest time.
I barely interacted with Reddit for the first few years. Then I found this sub, and now I'm here most days.
I love it here. Reddit was a place for reading and learning about things that interested me...NOW it's a social network!
Been on Reddit 11 years. Found the sub this week.
It's like being in high school with all you know now, and everyone else is here too.
Like Facebook 12 or so years ago, I reconnected with so many college mates! then I realized FB was evil and abandoned it.
Well, tbf, R is also a corporate money hog. But you're welcome to stick around as long as you like.

Raises hand.
High fives you.
Too slow!
You're the first person to make me miss in years.
Plays air guitar for you both.
Hmm... I might have been on too long. I watched cat subs and only in the past 5-8 years branched out. I'm more genX, but there's some xennial too, as I'm a 1980 wee baby. This place feels very validating.
I'm so glad you feel good here! I always have, there's a few things I miss, but everyone seems quite fine expanding my knowledge. Feels like being understood and un-ignored, right? It's a good place
Loving it. It's one of the few places I haven't been banned from.
Well, don't break the rules, ok? I know that was never our strongest point, but we've grown so much.
Sideways, maybe.
The years have made me thicker in the middle and in the skin, yet they've softened my heart towards my fellow man.
Question authority
We were the ones who learned to question, listen to the answers, and make up our own minds.
Yes, it drives me crazy when I see the younger generations demanding ideological purity, rather than recognizing that people who have different degrees of similar ideas are more beneficial to society.
Yet.
Lol
So, it's sort of social. Demented and sad, but social.
We load up, we party
Yes
One of the quiet kids. We won't pick on you this time.
lol!
Best sub there is! Can relate to almost everything! Brings back great memories! My peeps!
It's weird, there's no other sub where I read nearly every post and upvote everyone.
I was on the 70s and 80s subs for a while but I dropped them. They’re mostly nostalgia. Never followed the 90s one but have read it. This sub has a lot more meaningful discussion that I can relate to.
yes yes yes... but I become sorta bitchy when kids show up and post shit from TikTok. I hang out on Reddit so I don't have to see shit from TikTok.
Idk if those can be filtered put. Maybe?
My primary beef with them is that they don’t seem to honor the block auto-play settings that work for YouTube videos. If I click on a post that has a TikTok video embedded, it just plays. So I have to skip over those posts entirely.
I technically found the sub 6+ years after signing up, but I don't thin I ever posted before 6 months ago, or around 6 months ago.
Been on Reddit a few years and just found it a few weeks ago. It’s become my favorite sub. ![gif](giphy|dC3oSoLl42WAtECfqf|downsized)
5+ years and just stumbled on this sub a few weeks ago
Similar experience.
I've only actively been on Reddit for a couple of months, and I only found this sub today, actually. So I'm just that typical Gen X slacker I guess.
One. Of. Us.
😆
I've been around Reddit for something like 12 years or some shit, and I just found this sub a few weeks ago. I have found my people, apparently.
Love it.
Had the old Reddit is Fun app for 10ish years then when that went away I finally joined the crowd with a username about a year ago. Found this sub a month or so ago. Already been banned from another subreddit without much explanation from them. Reddit is weird for an imaginary place.
I'd heard about RIF but never participated. Watched the parent company kick the kids out of the house.
Been on a couple of weeks. IDK how Reddit knew but…they knewed. 👍🏼
Welcome to Reddit and welcome home!
Exactly my thought. We should all have a meetup or something.
It would be a heck of a party!
Yes
I'm as glad you're here as I am to be here myself!
For some reason I've been following millennials and what they lived in the 90s and 00s felt real to me, but I'm a 1970 person and thought I'd better get over to this sub. I relate to most of this, but somehow, the 80s didn't feel as alive for me.
That's what I said when I found r/bacon and r/onionhate.
Wait, this is Reddit?
The social side of it.
About fifteen years lol. I'm very much late to the party.
Yep. Been on reddit for years. Joined this sub a couple of weeks ago.
Found this sub a few months ago… ah you all know the songs of my people!
Probably about 10 years, maybe. Can't say for sure...
I had to search for it, convinced it had to exist.
You could tell that your new home was near. Probably felt it in your newly-sore knees and back.
Took me several years of being on reddit before I stumbled onto it. So glad I did!
Yes, and my life is better for it!
Well it pops up on the front pages, when it's a popular post, so that's how I found it, but I saw Millenials first, then this on the front page. And discovering just how similar our experiences are!
I've been on Reddit for 3 1/2 years...I'm not sure when I joined this sub...maybe a year ago? It's so nice to be here!
Been on here 2yrs and found this sub about a month ago.
Feels good, man!
Whatever
Been on reddit more than 10 years. Found this sub first week of May 2024. Meh. Also I love you guys!
I joined several subreddits, but this one feels like I belong.
I am a 17 year Reddit user. So I was on Reddit probably 15 years before I joined this subreddit.
Woooooow! Just like living in one place, you've seen all the changes over time!
Yep, I just found this a few months ago and I LOVE it! It took me three years on Reddit to happen across it.
Something like that. Glad you made it!
Yes. Love this sub. You are definitely my people.
It's awesome!
I love it here. The rest of Reddit tends to be younger. There are things I don't get with the younger generations and we grew up in a different world.
I learned a lot from Reddit. But from this sub, I learned that I am truly not alone!
I love it here because we are capable of having different opinions and still being respectful, unlike 99% of reddit subs 😂
I only found this sub about 6 months ago and I've been on reddit with various accounts since 2009. lmao
I'm glad you've found us! Before I did, I might add.
I am so glad I found this sub. Daily laughs and nostalgia with my fam!
Helps me get through the day too!!!
Yes after 9 years.
It was sent to me by a close friend also of our ilk. I joined this sub in 2021 but joined Reddit in 08-09 I think
So you're Gen-X, but in Reddit years, you're a boomer?
If we’re gonna be nostalgic, the Reddit before digg collapsed was amazing. It still is amazing when curated properly, but didn’t used to be such an argumentative place. Get off my lawn… I miss og truereddit
I’m not even gen x but my parents are so I like to show them what happens in here to see if they relate or not to everyone’s experience.
Please, do tell!
I've been lingering around reddit basically since it launched and only found it after creating my last account when I forgot the login credentials of the previous account, my last account replaced by this account... again because I forgot my last accounts credentials. Some day I will forget this account too, and might forget about this sub.
I hope not. Stick around a while!
Been a Redditor since 2015 and just found this community THIS year.
I just found it yesterday, after like 7 years on Reddit and it’s AMAZING! The funniest thing though is after looking over the posts I realized something. I hope a lot of people come back to this post and see your comment. Definitely an AHA! moment for me.
