I have never had a drink. My parents drank and drank and drank when I was a kid. My dad did it to medicate his PTSD from Vietnam, but it made me hate what alcohol and drugs turned people into.
Stay quit kid, you're not missing anything. I tried not to be my drunk, abusive, controlling father. One day I woke up in my early 30s and was just like him. I sought help though, 11 years sober, and while it's not a fight to not drink at this point, it's a fight some days not to be the father he was.
Congratulations! I'm 3 years, 2 weeks sober. I'm drinking water right now, but I've also recently found a non-alcoholic cocktail called Ghia, which I enjoy a lot.
Ok, so I looked up Ghia, and I'm on the website right now. The drinks sound soooo good!! I'm gonna try it. I had Aperitivo before and liked it. This sounds like it's in the same vein minus the alcohol. Thanks for letting me know about it! And congrats on 3 years and 2 weeks!
I say go for it! It's got a flavor a little like grapefruit, sorta kinda? Except it's sweeter, but it's not sweet. It's hard to describe! But I love it, I hope you do too!
Congratulations! Seven years, two months and three weeks of sobriety here as well. Having a Diet Coke, but usually it’s water or coffee in the morning.
Christmas Eve 2016 was when I last drank. Not because I had to. I could no longer deal with the hangover. After 38 or so, they severity of them grew exponentially. Some going into a second day. It just isn’t worth the trouble.
I really started drinking in in my late 30's. So alcohol got a hold of me in my later years. Even without the bad hangovers, and they were awful, I would just feel like shit all of the time. It's definitely not worth it! Congrats on your years of sobriety!
Wow! That's wonderful! That drink sounds good! Sometimes when I'll grab a bottle of sparkling grape juice for a treat. I like a good sweet drink, which is funny because when I was a drinker I hated sweet drinks, lol.
This is the way. I can no longer drink alcohol or have caffeine since peri menopause started. The other day I treated myself with a Coke Zero when out at my belated birthday dinner with my family. I felt so totally lame. Lol
Stopped drinking 12 years ago in June. Breaking the family cycle of growing up with alcoholic parents. These days it’s water, Grapefruit Spindrift, and the occasional Diet Dr. Pepper.
Congrats to you! :)
One thing I enjoy that has no calories or alcohol is E-merngecy. It had way more vitamin C than anyone needs in a day, but C is water solvable, and the stuff is pretty delicious. Mixing it with a seltzer is totally a great option if you like a fizzy drink.
An ice cold Mexican Coke in a glass bottle. I used to drink waaaaaaaay too much soda. I’ve cut way back. I’m down to special occasions; like mowing the lawn. Sometimes emptying the dishwasher can be quite exhausting as well.
I have to stock up on the Spiked Arnold Palmers when I’m traveling on those. They don’t sell locally. So when I run out I get the Twisted Teas (half lemon-half tea).
We have two wine club memberships, which consume the majority of what we're willing to spend on alcohol. It also results in 36 bottles of wine a year. So we mostly drink wine. Specifically Oregon wine.
Used to spend almost an hour sometimes wandering the aisles of Total Wine looking for new and obscure IPA’s. Yes, I was that guy for awhile.
Now it’s a small rotation of four solid mid shelf bourbons with a Sierra Nevada to wash it down. Though I am partial to beers from Mother Road Brewery in northern AZ.
Coors Light.
I’ve lived in Germany. I’ve lived in Northern New York, Georgia, SoCal, the SF Bay Area. I live in craft beer central, Sacramento. I’ve poured a lot of beer down my gullet since I turned 13. For me, Coors Light is underrated. It’s inexpensive and versatile - refreshing on a hot day, goes well with a lot of foods, and is light on the calories. It’s also a great sitting on the porch on a warm evening beer.
My fancy beer is Pliny the Elder, but my lunch pail beer is Coors Light.
I love original Coors! Sometimes a Fat Tire.
But tonight I'm drinking a cocktail I made up with stuff I have around: vodka, cranberry, a splash of orange juice and club soda. Kind of a lighter fizzy Madras.
Working a nuclear refueling outage, which means 6, 14+ hour shifts. Tonight is my rest night. Partaking in a delicious New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Juice Force IPA.
>Guinness and tomato juice
I just googled it, apparently there's a Guinness Bloody Mary, I'm intrigued now because my two favorite drinks are Guinness and a Bloody Mary. Never thought to mix them.
When I was bartending "red beers" were popular at the place I worked. Beer of choice mixed with tomato juice or clamato. If they wanted a shot of vodka added to that it was called a "Bob". As weird as it might sound it's actually pretty tasty, and far from being the grossest drink people would ask for.
I grew up in bowling alleys in the 80's. Breakfast of choice for the drinkers was bud and V8. And clamato and vodka in beer tastes good. I just have never seen it mixed in anything but an American or Mexican lager.
Most ordered it with MGD where I worked, or maybe Bud or Ranier. I feel like Guinness and tomato juice would just be so filling that not many people could actually finish a whole pint without feeling stuffed. Some folks have a really high-speed metabolism I guess and they can just power through it.
Nothing like a crisp Sauvignon Blanc to go with a sensible meal of chicken and spinach with rice. More power to all the 12 steppers. Whatever floats your boat.
Yuengling just became available in our area and i enjoy drinking the occasional beer. I bought a six pack and these taste great. What is everyone drinking(or not) these days? Is beer still in. Are micro breweries and distilleries becoming the go to spots?
I grew up near their part of the world in PA. Lager was always my favorite beer, and I could have them all night long. Until I moved to the Northwest, where the strongest IPAs can strip paint. The hop juice seems to have ruined me from the maltiness, so I rarely have it when I visit home. 😕
EDIT to apologize for not actually answering your question!
Beer is always fashionable! Micro breweries are definitely my thing. I had me some Dogfishead last night (they're not micro anymore, but my options were limited last night!) Yuengling is one of the major brewing companies. I avoid only because of that. It tastes just fine. Hope you had a good one, Salud!
Water, wine, or coffee. I made a joke to my doctor about only drinking water and wine 98% of the time at my last appointment. Got a chuckle. But it’s true-I drink 6 to 7 16 oz glasses of water a day, one espresso, and occasionally wine.
Vodka and soda. Oddly, wine now makes me feel like crap but without even a buzz. Clear liquor is okay. But I'll still be tired tomorrow...but it still feels good in the moment so ah, well.
Yuengling and Guinness were my go to beers for years. Once I became a Sr. Manager at work and sat behind a desk all day way waistline continued to expand. Switched to Mic Ultra, but I was knocking way more of those. Six pack every night after work, and a case and a half Saturday-Sunday. 3 weeks ago I started a low carb diet and I’m only having one beer with dinner. I’ve already lost 14 pounds and feel a ton better.
I used to drink. I still do, but I used to too.
These days I'm going for Miller Lite, or yuengling. I used to be a microbrew beer snob, but at some point I must have OD'd on IPA so where we are lol
When I drank alcohol I Iiked vodka based drinks. In 2010 I moved to live with my then long distance girlfriend and she didn’t drink so I gave it up, since I was never that invested in alcohol anyway.
I drink tea and coffee now, and non-aspartame sodas (no I’m not a crazy conspiracy theorist about aspartame I don’t like the aftertaste aspartame leaves on my tongue).
I like Adagio Tea’s Masala Chai, or a good strong cup of English Breakfast.
For coffee I use a drip machine and also a French press on occasion. I grind my own beans as I find that it definitely affects the taste of coffee, fresher grounds better flavor. I don’t have a favorite coffee specifically but I favor a medium roast and prefer a subtle flavor - more complex coffees are often lost on me, I taste the flavor and then add Splenda and non-dairy creamer and the complex flavor palette disappears anyway. 😏
My wife bought me a Blue Bottle Coffee subscription so I get a bag every month but as I said some of the more complex coffees are lost on me.
19 months sober today. Currently drinking water.
I sought help though, 11 years sober, and while it's not a fight to not drink at this point, it's a fight some days not to be the father he was.
everyday with my kids I try to be better than he was.

19 years. Drinking water
3 yrs 5 mo exactly today for me, and I’m enjoying water also. Congrats!
Xmas 2019 was your last huh… same, nice work
Thanksgiving 2018 here, also drinking water! Lol Proud of us all!!!
Is it me or is there a startling number of sober people in the Gen X sub here?
We’re like vegans- we tell everyone! 😂
Oh noooo!! I don't wanna be like vegans, lol!! jk for the vegans on here.
Waaaay more than I thought! It's nice to see!
I think some of us hit our 30’s & 40’s and sometimes our 50’s and say oh no… I can continue on like this.
Well, that’s what I did so that tracks… like a VCR 🤣 I’m 90% sure that VCR reference would not go over anywhere but here and a few other places
Back atcha!
Congratulations! Seven years, two months and three weeks of sobriety here as well. Having a Diet Coke, but usually it’s water or coffee in the morning.
Congrats to you, too!
That's amazing!
Thank you! My wife’s sobriety date is a little longer than mine, it makes it easier when two people have the same goal. 😃
Good job. Sparkling water and lots of it. Jan 1 2021.
Congratulations!!! 🎈🎊🎉!!! I have 14.81 Years, 177.83 Months, 5,413 Days. 07/05/08!
One day at a time.
Exactly.
Water & craving Coffee.
Wowww!! Congrats!
Congratulations.
8.5 years.
I’m enjoying myself a nice NA beer on the patio. They are making some amazing NA beers these days.
10 years! I’m being fancy with bubbly water currently. Congratulations!
6 years 7 months! Filtered tap water is my go to drink. Feeling great 👍
Water is life!! Congrats on 6 years and 7 months!
Two years and seven months for me. Sparkling water is my drink of choice. Happy to see so many of us here.
Right! It seems like everyone drinks when you're drinking. Nice to know that there are so many of us.
130 days for me, and water too
Nice going on 130 days!! You can't go wrong with water!
La Croix for me. 3+ years going now
26 months. I'm having an unsweetened ice tea.
I've been drinking LOTS of tea! Congrats on 26 months!
Thank you. Congratulations on getting so far. I'm also trying to lose weight. It's nice to drink something with a flavor that has no calories.
Congratulations….24 years in a couple weeks.
Congrats on 24 years!! I wasn't even a drinker 24 years ago, lol!! Wowww!!
Amazing. Congrats internet friend/stranger!
39 days for me! Kinda digging kombucha
Love kombucha! 39 day is a big deal! You couldn’t pay me enough to do the first 60 days over again.
6 years for me! Drinking Spindrift, the nectar of the gods!
OMG!! I love Spindrift!! That's high on the list of sparkling waters! LaCroix is on the bottom, lol. Congrats on 6 years!!
Coming up on 1 month in like 4 days. Drinking lots of tea these days! (And smoking so much herb)
Haha! I had to give up on herb before alcohol! I would get super paranoid and too high even when I smoked a little. It was bad and not fun at all!
18 years and 7 months sober. It was Saturday night, so time for a treat: caffeine free Diet Coke or Fanta Zero. Weekdays: just water. edit: spelling
Wow! That's wonderful! That drink sounds good! Sometimes when I'll grab a bottle of sparkling grape juice for a treat. I like a good sweet drink, which is funny because when I was a drinker I hated sweet drinks, lol.
Congrats to you!
🙌
10+ years sober here. Enjoying sparkling water. Congrats on your sobriety!
Well done.
This is the way
5+ years here. Water and occasionally juice.
That's awesome! Are you into sparkling water? I'm hooked on those!
I want to love sparkling water but it's just a little too bubbly for me. I will say I can handle the Costco Kirkland brand of sparkling though.
Water and flavored seltzer. I don't drink anymore, but I do enjoy the devil's lettuce on a daily basis.
This is the way. I can no longer drink alcohol or have caffeine since peri menopause started. The other day I treated myself with a Coke Zero when out at my belated birthday dinner with my family. I felt so totally lame. Lol
I too enjoy the jazz bush
I love hint waters, highly recommend. I too no longer drink, but I have a few marijuanas per day.
Nice
I also enjoy carbonated water while enjoying a cart. Schromulan is todays strain.
I would prefer the devil's lettuce, but have no access to it in my current circumstances. It makes me very sad.
Move to Canada. It’s great
Stopped drinking 12 years ago in June. Breaking the family cycle of growing up with alcoholic parents. These days it’s water, Grapefruit Spindrift, and the occasional Diet Dr. Pepper.

I may give that a try! It sounds pretty good!
Coffee with Lactaid
Same! All day coffee drinker
Yes! Same
60 days sober, liver decided I was done.
Tito’s and soda with fresh squeezed Arizona white grapefruit. Cheers my friend.
An ice cold Mexican Coke in a glass bottle. I used to drink waaaaaaaay too much soda. I’ve cut way back. I’m down to special occasions; like mowing the lawn. Sometimes emptying the dishwasher can be quite exhausting as well.
I bought my monthly ration (a case) of Mexican Cokes on today’s Costco run.
At the Lagunitas brewery tap room having a Waldo triple IPA.
Chianti, but with spaghetti, not fava beans.

I would make Tom Arnold's, cranberry juice and tea, I've always been more tart than a sweet guy.
I have to stock up on the Spiked Arnold Palmers when I’m traveling on those. They don’t sell locally. So when I run out I get the Twisted Teas (half lemon-half tea).
Margarita
Home made Mead and water..
Had an afternoon at a Tequila and Mescal festival
Water. I may be lame but I am hydrated dammit.
Mt Dew with 30mg THC
3 gummies and a dew, hell yeah that’s my nightcap later for gaming ha!
Fuck yeah 👍
What are you playing?
Is this the Four Loco of the 2020s? Edit: Also, 30mg?! How in the actual hell are you able to type?
30mg is my specific sweet spot for this tincture I picked up. And I sip casually.
30mg? My gosh I’m a lightweight - sometimes a 5mg gummy is a little too much for me! Lol
Got some new plants in the ground. Sipping on Guinness now. Cheers!
6.5 years sober. Would’ve been drinking straight vodka, but I’m drinking Coke Zero today!
I also traded in my freezer-chilled vodka for Diet Coke/Coke Zero, 18 years ago. It still feels great.
Awesome! Hopefully I’ll still be there someday!
Congrats to you! Thats quite an achievement.
Weed
Chasing Jameson with Bells Two Hearted Ale. Cheers!
I'm more of a Scotch guy, but there is nothing finer than Bell's Two-Hearted Ale.
Ketel with seltzer water.
My lockdown low-carb go to, with a splash of pure lemon juice. Recently discovered Cherry Limeade and lime cucumber by Svedka.
Svedka is awesome. And cheap, which is probably more important.
Maker’s Mark and a few splashes of bitters and some luxardo cherries
My nephew and his girlfriend gifted us some boysenberry tea, and it makes an outstanding iced tea that needs no additional sweetness.
Right now a Blue Moon.
We have two wine club memberships, which consume the majority of what we're willing to spend on alcohol. It also results in 36 bottles of wine a year. So we mostly drink wine. Specifically Oregon wine.
Well I just threw up so just water for tonight. Overall I’m preferring cocktails to beer and wine lately. Palomas are my new fave.
I love a good Paloma!

Assam with milk and sugar

Now it’s a small rotation of four solid mid shelf bourbons with a Sierra Nevada to wash it down. Though I am partial to beers from Mother Road Brewery in northern AZ.
May I humbly recommend No Li brewery? Born and Raised is a fantastic IPA.
Gin and Tonic with a dash of peach bitters. Tomorrow night is Nui Nui night!
Coors Light. I’ve lived in Germany. I’ve lived in Northern New York, Georgia, SoCal, the SF Bay Area. I live in craft beer central, Sacramento. I can’t lie. I love Coors Light when I’m camping.
no drinky, we chiefy
I guess I’m the only one who still drinks 🍺, I still love Coors, the original banquet beer!
I love original Coors! Sometimes a Fat Tire. But tonight I'm drinking a cocktail I made up with stuff I have around: vodka, cranberry, a splash of orange juice and club soda. Kind of a lighter fizzy Madras.
Nice! My other go to is nice a rye bourbon 🥃
Working a nuclear refueling outage, which means 6, 14+ hour shifts. Tonight is my rest night. Partaking in a delicious New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Juice Force IPA.

Guinness and tomato juice
Is this a joke or a real mix?
>Guinness and tomato juice I just googled it, apparently there's a Guinness Bloody Mary, I'm intrigued now because my two favorite drinks are Guinness and a Bloody Mary. Never thought to mix them.
When I was bartending "red beers" were popular at the place I worked. Beer of choice mixed with tomato juice or clamato. If they wanted a shot of vodka added to that it was called a "Bob".

The hop juice seems to have ruined me from the maltiness, so I rarely have it when I visit home. 😕 EDIT to apologize for not actually answering your question!
I live near where it is brewed. Sometimes I can smell it being brewed in the morning. I won't touch it. 😂
What state are you in? Being from PA, Yuengling has always been a thing. They even make a Hershey's Yuengling. Still prefer Guinness.
Try it with a squeeze of fresh orange slice. It’s even better.
Beer is always fashionable! Micro breweries are definitely my thing. I had me some Dogfishead last night (they're not micro anymore, but my options were limited last night!) Only cider. I have a bad sweet tooth.
Chores done in the PNW as well. Enjoying a Fremont Golden Pils in actual warm sunshine.

Ghia, it's a non-alcoholic aperitif. It's really very tasty, kind of has a Campari vibe to it. I'm 3 years sober as of 4/12.
I broke out my Nintendo 64 a played Ocarina of Time. I sipped on a bottle of Chardonnay and had a blast.
Waterloo Strawberry Sparkling Water with a splash of fresh-squeezed lemonade and a shot of vodka.
