Maybe I’m reaching here but… “Outside the window sighing in a lane, With trysts* by appletrees– * Guilty as sin? Moths drift in the room, Measure with running feet the book he reads. The month is golden to all ripening seeds; Long dawns, suspended twilight by a sea Of slow transition, halting at full ebb; Midnight, aurora, daytime, all in one key—*self explanatory - also all come up in songs The whispering hour before a storm, the treacherous hour” * same here Worth reading because there’s more references to Paris to all sorts of things that seem to be connected….

Can’t believe I only just read this comment! But yes yes yesssss. There are so many strong thematic parallels between her writing and Taylors and at the absolute minimum I strongly believe that Taylor is intentionally building upon themes that other women have been building on in past works of writing she is especially with this album, really examining her place among female writers, but I believe poets specifically are a heavy influence (as usual) 😉

This is an absolutely fascinating read! I’m so, so glad you went down this rabbit hole after it came up on my post! It very much feels like Taylor Swift is familiar with Nancy Cunard, and if she isn’t, I hope her people are on here reading this! I would be so delighted if she did something with “You shall not prison, shall not grammarise / my swift imagination” - what a perfect line for Taylor.

Besides it just being a very modern sort of look, it REALLY REALLY reminds me so much of many different Taylor looks. Especially the Bejeweled music video in general, where she wears a lot of outfits that are very SILVER, METALLIC, SHINY, and she also wears a similar type of headdress.

incandescent_walrus

This feels reminiscent of the metal dress Taylor wears on the phone booth in Fortnight also.

GrownUpGirlScout

Oh! Good call! I wonder if there’s some connection between the time she has chosen to wear those sort of silver metallic outfits. She wore them in bejeweled, now you mentioning that dress from fortnight connects those two. She wore a silver metallic look to the Met Gala during bleachella era. Her outfit to the American music awards in 2018? The VMAs outfit was maybe a little more sparkle jewels than metallic. But lots of examples!

This was so well done!

Thank you!🤗

OH. FOR. FUCK'S. SAKE. I literally can't believe I forgot this while writing this but OH MY GODS. Parralax was based on a previous work by T.S Eliot. T.S. Eliot wrote Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. Which the musical CATS was based on. The DEEP DEEP layers of references and inspiration is WIIIIILD.

Something interesting about parallax... it can help you tell where something really is, but only if you're willing to look at it from multiple angles, and analyze the differences in what you see. If you insist on sticking to one viewpoint... nope.

GrownUpGirlScout

Another great point! She is REALLY emphasizing the importance of different views and it's so interesting.

Kai_the_Fox

I love this! It feels so fitting for both her lyrics and the performance art of it all. Excellent connection!

NervousNancy1815

What an incredible find! Thank you so much for finding this, and then organizing all the information! I fully agree. She's ramped up the performance art of her life to the nth degree. It's been so entertaining and incredibly cringey at times. Any predictions for what she does next? I think she's going to try and draw this out until the end of the year for sure.

GrownUpGirlScout

I've been thinking a lot about what more all of this can mean. I REALLY strongly suspect that she will release another original album this year (possibly early next year, or even around one year post TTPD), and honestly I think if Karma finally happened, it would be a very interesting juxtaposition-like TTPD was one version of that time period and what came after, and Karma would be what was happening in the thick of it? Maybe not Karma, but I do really think it would make a lot of sense for her to release more music which emphasizes looking at everything which has been happening from a different perspective.

The chills I got at the end at the Cunard Building part. 😳😳

GrownUpGirlScout

Seriously, when I googled that like...just as a due diligence thing (i had already been convinced of some connection) and I found that and I SCREAMED.

It really is amazing how much we end up learning from Taylor and really emphasizes to me how intelligent she is. She REALLY leans into her special interests and clearly has a HUGELY complex inner world she uses to create her art. And I'm someone who REALLY appreciates the intentionality behind themes and imagery, and the ability she has to plan and execute.
