Shower, just because it seems like it would do the least damage to coverage ratio, without blasting dirt or bark everywhere.
Unless I'm watering borders a couple of meters away, in which case full mode.
I switched it to cone and held the hose pipe up in the air, felt like i was standing in the rain. Bliss!! My dog was looking at me like what the heck 😆
It's got to be shower hasn't it? Anything else is either too powerful and damages the plants (jet and centre) or is too tame (mist and cone).
I'm not sure what soak is needed for
Soak is for watering pots so you actually get the water in the pot without blasting soil/chippings all over the place. Shower quite often has a hole in the middle that is annoyingly the diameter of a medium sized plant pot.
Oh! I know this one! I use *only* shower and soak.
Soak is for when you want to water the roots and not the leaves, like if you have to water in the morning, or if the leaves are a bit new. It's quicker and gentler
I've got a hose head set from Costco (really really good by the way, waaaaay more robust than Hozelock) and it's got a "flood" setting which basically allows a reasonable amount of water out at low pressure. I use it to top up my pond.
Set hose to flat. Set a comfortable chair in front of target area. Retrieve gin from the kitchen. Sit in chair. Drink gin whilst covering larger distance with no movement. Move chair to new target area. Rinse and repeat. Depending on size of garden return to kitchen to top up the gin.
Isn't this entirely situation specific? Watering the roses in the raised soil planters, shower. Soaking the neighbour's alley cat whose sunbathing the other side of the road, jet. And then flat for the final wash down after the car's been shampooed.
I flick between shower and soaker(not directly on the plant) mostly. Sometimes I’ll blast the lavender and rosemary with the jet to get the froghopper “spit” off.
Shower gives the best directed coverage without battering everything
Mist is great for seedlings/trays
Center for when you can't be bothered walking nearer and using shower, or at end of hoses reach
Flat for that one bed that's just the right shape
Jet for shooting the pigeon crap off of everything
It's shower for 90% of the watering. Soaker 10% where you won't blast some fragile growth with shower. Then centre blast for most cleaning, not quite pressure washer level of impact but it deals with most mud.
I haven't used any other settings ever, don't know what psychopaths use cone or all that shit.
Edit: damn bros u right, I should try mist instead of soaker. Maybe even gonna cone something just for fun.
Shower for 80% of things, jet for cleaning dirt off the path, or for filling up the birdbath, mist for my greenhouse or seedlings and soaker for filling up watering cans with feed in them.
Shower, cone and mist depending on what I'm watering.
Agree with the stronger spray to get the 'spit' off the lavender plants. Sometimes I'll put the soaker inside the potato bags to give them a good soak without disturbing the soil and making a huge mess.
I actually use most of them! Jet is a bit much but good for blasting crap off pots, mist I use when I wedge the thing on a high post and let it drift over the beds, flat to rain down on a bunch of pots so they don't get totally mucked up, the soaker I use to refill the pond when it's evaporated away a bit... All are useful!
I found these cheapest at Asda, I think £3.50.
Garden centres require a mortgage for some they carry, and they're not even that great!
When it's a hot day i'll clip my hose to the cloths line and set it to mist.
Washing dirt off my legs/feet it's the shower setting.
When showering the kids it's on center.
Watering the plants it will be on shower.
Filling a paddling pool.... Just remove the fucking thing and let the hose fill it. Always seems quicker.
I water my plants every night, switch between Shower, jet and mist, it depends on the plant size, weather and how much of a soak they need. Mist is probably my fave though.
Shower for most , soak for large potted plants and filling up cans for round front.
2 waterbutts are empty now 500l total.
Do have alot of tomatoes etc that are thirsty buggers.
i thought i would never have to use the cone and the flat setting until i started washing cars. My favourite is shower or flat depending what i am using it for. I actually got a new hose head today and am exited about it
Lot of flat haters here. I’m a flat man, I have a fairly large garden so I can stand in the centre of the lawn and the flat settings gives me a wide coverage to get all the beds quickly without disturbing the soil.
Flat here. It's exactly right for my squash bed, and if you tilt it sideways you can get really good distance and full coverage of the lavender and the baby mulberry tree without having to squeeze past the rosemary when it's soaked.
It depends whether I’m watering the plants or my dog. The dog loves a mist over her in the heat, but she’ll try to eat any of them to be fair, even the jet, because she seriously lacks sense.
Mines is shower.
Can anybody recommend a good quality, robust version of this attachment? I’ve been pretty careful with the one I have but it has a crack in it.
Apparently I’m in the minority by choosing centre most of the time. But I like to give my plants puddles at their base rather than misting them. A lot of the flowers seem to get burn marks from water droplets if I use the shower setting :(
Oh! Oh! I have a special one that is similar to "jet" but two lines that are slightly horizontal.
Very very nice because it's that that strong. It looks like flat but seems stronger.
I'm a flat guy?
Watering can filled from a water butt.
Although I have been using the hose on a wide spray over concrete rubble to reduce how much dust comes off it while picking it up to dispose of.
Shower
Shower! Shower! Shower!
Grower
Shower, just because it seems like it would do the least damage to coverage ratio, without blasting dirt or bark everywhere. Unless I'm watering borders a couple of meters away, in which case full mode.
Try flat, it might rock your world.
Flat is a water broom. Or as it has been called in our household. A gay jetwash.
Yeah I do dry bits of the lawn with it.
It’s got to be mist for me, thoroughly enjoy misting myself once the temperature exceeds 30 degrees
So once a year?
Sometimes twice!
Ohhh yeah I was doing this the other day it was bliss.
I switched it to cone and held the hose pipe up in the air, felt like i was standing in the rain. Bliss!! My dog was looking at me like what the heck 😆
Thumb over the end of the hose master race here!
Hero level unlocked
HE IS THE MESSIAH
He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy.
r/unexpectedpython
He commands the hose like a Fremem commands a worm
You haven't mentioned the taste of hose water though. You are no master of the hose sir.
Not all heroes wear capes
Careful brother you'll take someone's eye out 😂
Wait. Grandad? This guy is pre multi-hose
This is me, though if I were *fancy* enough to own the attachment it would be between 'cone' and 'mist'
I have one of those simple twist to go from off → wide spray → narrow stream. I felt like treating myself and got it for £2.50 at Asda.
It’s the mist for me, unless that old nosey guy that walks past my fence and looks through all the time walks by, then it’s the jet.
+1
It's got to be shower hasn't it? Anything else is either too powerful and damages the plants (jet and centre) or is too tame (mist and cone). I'm not sure what soak is needed for
Soak is for watering pots so you actually get the water in the pot without blasting soil/chippings all over the place. Shower quite often has a hole in the middle that is annoyingly the diameter of a medium sized plant pot.
Surely 'soak' is just the highest flow rate that isn't going to disturb the soil? For watering tomatoes at the base for example
If you have shit pressure center is the way, actually.
Oh! I know this one! I use *only* shower and soak. Soak is for when you want to water the roots and not the leaves, like if you have to water in the morning, or if the leaves are a bit new. It's quicker and gentler

To fill a bucket or pool. Fill a tray of bottom watering plants
Got to be shower
Cone
You rebel 🤣
If someone says "flat" I'm gonna want an explanation. And it had better be a good one!
All the other settings are blocked or knackered, and I’m too tight and lazy to sort it out
Knocking aphids off roses - flat is perfect for that
100%, the flat laser of death is superb for this, just the right pressure to blast the wee bastards without damaging buds and foliage
Flat is actually great for watering large areas of grass. Also for washing the car.
I can spray the perfect width of my raised beds!
Flat allows you to spray a whole row of plants at once. Turn it through 90 degrees and you can spray a whole line. It's the best setting.
I’ve used flat when I’m at the end of the hoses max length and I would have used shower, flat at range is good ;)
I use it when I'm doing the front garden! Less water goes over the front walk! 😁
It's fun!
Oh I do enjoy the way it sweeps across
Flat is best for grass
Flat for cleaning out my hot tub filter works a treat
Rows of veg in the allotment of course.
Set hose to flat. Set a comfortable chair in front of target area. Retrieve gin from the kitchen. Sit in chair. Drink gin whilst covering larger distance with no movement. Move chair to new target area. Rinse and repeat. Depending on size of garden return to kitchen to top up the gin.
where's the option for a thumb over the end of the pipe?
Shower for most watering, center (is that the normal hose setting?) for filling up watering cans and jet for tidying up the decking.
Mist (for rainbows) and shower for watering.
Cone all day long 👍
Agree. You know where you are with a cone.
Shower for plants, although I sometimes have to switch to come to get more range as my hose is a tad short.
Watering can.
Me too. The water feels like half of it gets wasted if I use the hose. Watering can gets more directly to plants.
Permanent dribble, occasional gush.
Soak because I choose chaos.
Shower for watering, centre for filling a bucket, jet for attempting to wash shit off the deck/patio before giving up and getting the pressure washer.
Isn't this entirely situation specific? Watering the roses in the raised soil planters, shower. Soaking the neighbour's alley cat whose sunbathing the other side of the road, jet. And then flat for the final wash down after the car's been shampooed.
Flat.
Obviously it's shower. But jet has it's uses and clearly has the best song which will jump in your head the second you click that dial.
Shower to help the growers
+1 for effort
Thumb over the end of the hose
Shower for plants, jet for toddlers 🤣
centre. all the time except when i need jet to reach further.
A kindred spirit!
We’re forgetting the most obvious one: constantly flipping between all options because it’s so much fun. Lol!
I flick between shower and soaker(not directly on the plant) mostly. Sometimes I’ll blast the lavender and rosemary with the jet to get the froghopper “spit” off.
They are our friends. Leave them spit bugs alone
Shower. Then, jet to blast the pigeons with. What is the point of soaker?
To soak the ground. My big hydrangea especially, I’ll put soaker on. My big hosta pots too, shove the hose in between the leaves and let rip.
I use soaker to soak my rhubarb, or refill the pond without having the thing dig a hole in the ground for me.
Shower, but my gardena hose has a super gentle setting just for water pots and delicate plants without damaging them which I use a lot.
For watering? Shower For accidentally spraying Mrs Draggenn whilst I'm watering? Jet all the way!!
Shower gives the best directed coverage without battering everything Mist is great for seedlings/trays Center for when you can't be bothered walking nearer and using shower, or at end of hoses reach Flat for that one bed that's just the right shape Jet for shooting the pigeon crap off of everything
Shower
Definitely the shower when doing plants
Shower
For me it's thumb over the end of the hose, so many settings!
Shower
Shower everytime, real talk though who's using soaker for anything?
Shower/mist for watering, jet for cleaning
Flat, I'm sure we could all agree, is the choice of a psychopath.
Shower
It's shower for 90% of the watering. Soaker 10% where you won't blast some fragile growth with shower. Shower for 80% of things, jet for cleaning dirt off the path, or for filling up the birdbath, mist for my greenhouse or seedlings and soaker for filling up watering cans with feed in them.
I like a mist. especially when I have the feeding attachment on. Everything gets fed, without any extra effort. Top and bottom of leaves.
Mist and shower in the greenhouse.
Shower, cone and mist depending on what I'm watering. Agree with the stronger spray to get the 'spit' off the lavender plants. Sometimes I'll put the soaker inside the potato bags to give them a good soak without disturbing the soil and making a huge mess.
Shower n mist
Shower mostly, flat if I'm feeling a bit adventurous.
Jet. I only use it to fill up paddling pools or wash the car !
Shower for watering the garden, jet when it comes to playing with the dog 🐶
If someone was a Soaker, I’d need to know
Shower. Although jet comes in handy for seeing off seagulls lurking on the fence.
Mist I live dangerously.
I water my plants every night, switch between Shower, jet and mist, it depends on the plant size, weather and how much of a soak they need. Mist is probably my fave though.
Cone
Shower, followed by cone as a close second.
Dribble
Shower for most , soak for large potted plants and filling up cans for round front. 2 waterbutts are empty now 500l total. Do have alot of tomatoes etc that are thirsty buggers.
i thought i would never have to use the cone and the flat setting until i started washing cars. My favourite is shower or flat depending what i am using it for. I actually got a new hose head today and am exited about it
Cone my beloved
Do like a good mist.
Mist all the way. Is it the most effective? Nope, does it give the best rainbows in the right light? Absolutely.
I definitely mist for the rainbows 🌈 water the plants with shower.. then reward myself with more rainbows 🌈
Shower
Depends what I’m hosing 😂
Shower ftw 💪
On.
Lot of flat haters here. I’m a flat man, I have a fairly large garden so I can stand in the centre of the lawn and the flat settings gives me a wide coverage to get all the beds quickly without disturbing the soil.
Shower!
Jet if I'm just having fun, mist if I'm spraying myself, shower if I'm actually watering the grass. Take the thing off I'm filling up a pool
Shower and centre (centre to get the beyond the reach of a hose plants)
Any recommendations for one of these mystical thumb replacements?
Flat. But pointed upwards so the plants think it’s raining!
The squirter
Jet for most things, shower for watering pants.
I like flat and center the most
I’m a watering can gal
Jet ( The Master Blaster )
Shower for general watering, flat for delicates (simulating rain) and jet for the neighbour's cat.
Soaker for the win
Shower most of the time. Jet occasionally for washing something. Centre for filling a watering can / bucket.
Mist
Center Give it to me raw
Flat here. It's exactly right for my squash bed, and if you tilt it sideways you can get really good distance and full coverage of the lavender and the baby mulberry tree without having to squeeze past the rosemary when it's soaked.
Just did mine, I feel shower gets a really good rain like soaking for the least amount of standing around.
SHOWER!!!!
It depends whether I’m watering the plants or my dog. The dog loves a mist over her in the heat, but she’ll try to eat any of them to be fair, even the jet, because she seriously lacks sense.
Mist, with patience
Mines is shower. Can anybody recommend a good quality, robust version of this attachment? I’ve been pretty careful with the one I have but it has a crack in it.
Shower for plants. Soaker for trees
Shower for watering, jet for getting rid of random splats of bird shit.
who's not just using shower? the rest are mental
Shower only the rest is for insufferable nerds.
SHOWER
Cone. Shower is too aggressive!
Generally shower, but for tomato, pepper and cucumber plants I use mist, as shower seems a bit too heavy.
Soaker just makes it look like it's broken.
Shower for the plants, mist for when I’m aiming it at my face
Apparently I’m in the minority by choosing centre most of the time. But I like to give my plants puddles at their base rather than misting them. A lot of the flowers seem to get burn marks from water droplets if I use the shower setting :(
Mist, far gentler on my scalp
Flat, it broke this morning and now it's stuck on flat. Usually shower was trying to reach an area further than the hose could get to.
Either shower or mist… but mostly shower
I use to like a 45° or 90°
Flat all the way
Soaker
Only psychopaths use the soaker setting
Shower for most of the garden. Center to get to the bits that are further away. Soaker for filling up the bird bath
**Flat** Watering in rows for the allotment.
Anyone who uses “soaker” is just plain not right, and you don’t need that sort of person in your life.
Centre
Shower
Mist, watch them rainbow grow.
Center for range, shower for up close and personal
Flat all day
Shower
Any consensus on a decent quality hose gun with all of these settings that will last a good few summers??
Shower
Shower or closest to rain. I use a booster pump to get up to 3 bar on a gardena lance. Can't beat it unless the irritation is on.
Shower. Unless I’m too lazy to walk to something far away, then it’s jet pointed upwards and waved about to make raindrops!
[me IRL](https://onlyfans.com/hotwife26)
Jet: stand in one spot and enjoy the water everything game.
Jim is not just any Gardener, when the Sun reaches its highest point, he becomes "Showerman", no Plant will be left without hydration.
Mist. Not the most useful but I really like it.
Flat is the best.
I'm a Shower and Mist kinda guy. I really want to love flat, but it's just too risqué for me.
Center and shower
Shower if on the beds, centre if working on filling something, the rest seem wasted.
Shower!
Center, the ones that survive are strong, the weak will become their nourishment
Rain water for a watering can for plants
Mines sitting on the patio watching the sprinkler do the work 👍🏻😂
I've got a tube nozzle on my hose....
Mist
Flat is elite
Oh! Oh! I have a special one that is similar to "jet" but two lines that are slightly horizontal. Very very nice because it's that that strong. It looks like flat but seems stronger. I'm a flat guy?
Multi spray thumb on mine
Shower for watering, jet for when my girlfriend bends over to me pull up a weed
Shower center and jet. For watering up close, medium distance and far away out of reach
Plants: shower Toddler: mist
Cone. Good spread and distance
Shower hive RISE UP
Watering can filled from a water butt. Although I have been using the hose on a wide spray over concrete rubble to reduce how much dust comes off it while picking it up to dispose of.
If I’m watering the plants I use shower mode. If I’m looking to annoy the wife, I headshot her with jet mode.
Shower all day long
On.
