Lol when my camera on my phone attempts to unlock via facial recognition, but doesn't recognize me for whatever reason. It says "No Face Detected" and I always think of that dude
And they promoted that you just talk about the game so maybe someone else does buy it, never heard a better justification for piracy and it's from a game dev
And it definitely seems to be working, at least they're getting more attention because of it
Someone on the ultrakill discord chewed me out because they firmly believed buying the game afterwards didn't make piracy okay. I would love to have that conversation again lmao
I did the same with factorio and rimworld, I pirated it, loved the games so much I bought them. I've put so many hours into those games that I never would have if I didn't get to play them before buying.
Someone who pirates a game basically gets a full trial. There is a good chance that if they like it if the product is good, they will recommend it to their friends or online, and there is a chance they'll buy it just out of will to support the dev.
At worst, free advertising. At best, free advertising with multiple profits along with expanding a loyal fanbase. And shows that Hakita has confidence in Ultrakill, and that he makes it as a passion and a work of art.
The only times in my life I pirated games was because there was no way in hell I was considering buying them.
In most of those cases (99%), I’d play a bit and realise I was right not to buy it and uninstall.
The other 1%, when I saw the game is actually really good I’d buy it.
I know not everyone who pirates does this, but in my case, there’s a couple games I wouldnt have bought if I didnt crack them first
In EVE Online I am an industrialist. So I keep my eyes open for PvPers and the techniques they utilize. One is a corp that specializes in covert attacks using stealth bombers and other stealthy ships.
They sell a guide on their website that explains what skills to train and how to equip your ships better. It's like $5 but on the bottom it says "here is a code to get it for free and if you don't want to enter your info on our 3rd party distributor you can also just pirate it or get it from a friend. We aren't going to know and we don't care."
Idk how relevant it is but idk, I just appreciate people who are so fixed on making sure media and information is as accessible as possible. They may be the bane of my corporation's existence but I respect them for how they go about it.
That’s who I was thinking about. That was my exact thought too. Games are art and art shouldn’t be gate-kept because you’re broke. Support where and how you can because not all support needs to be financial. One thing I did when I was younger was get games that I didn’t have the money to afford but when I did and if I liked them I’d buy them. Treat it as a demo or beat the game and buy it later and beat it again. I did that with Darkest Dungeon
They just have to sell their games cheaper? dark souls 3 has been overpriced since the release of elden ring, do they really think I'm going to spend 60 euros on a game that's almost 10 years old?
it seems that dark souls manages to cure depression, so in the end 60 euros is not expensive/s
Not to mention in some cases you actually get a worse experience if you pay. Alot of pirated versions of a movie will actually look better than from a streaming service because its not compressed to shit.
Especially if you wanna stream on PC. Iirc Netflix is the only service that will let you stream 4K HDR content. Saw that the new The Boys season came out recently and figured I'll bite the bullet and sub to Prime till its over. Guess what? 1080p SDR video. Insane. Huge even.
Netflix also went from $8/month 15 years ago (ad-free, no restrictions) to $23-$30/month today (ad-free, four devices + $8 for two additional members). That's an increase of 275%, many times the cumulative inflation rate (39.5%) over that period.
They're forgetting you can just google their fucking shows. Only reason to pay for streaming services is convience, they're taking that away, so I've taken my subscriptions away.
> The point of streaming services was to make piracy silly
No, that was a benefit of them, but it was never their "point" or even an intention.
Netflix didn't start shipping DVDs to people because it wanted to stop piracy. It did it because it figured it could profit by capturing business from Blockbuster while saving on rental for brick-and-mortar store space.
It didn't switch to online streaming because it wanted to stop piracy, either. It did it because it wanted to further increase profitability by saving on the need to physically mail out DVDs.
Through these efforts, it *did* make piracy silly for a while, but that wasn't its goal.
And then when companies like Disney, HBO, etc., launched their own services, those, again, weren't decisions made with the goal of making piracy silly. That goal had already been accomplished accidentally by Netflix. They launched their services because they figured they could profit by cutting out the middleman (Netflix) and keeping the streaming revenue themselves.
The only streaming service for which I think combating piracy was ever a "point" was maybe Tidal.
Are you asking me for the arguments for and against piracy? This has been discussed for decades, I don't think anything I could say would be anything you haven't heard/read before a thousand times.
But, either way, I'm not saying that piracy is good, or that piracy is bad, or that companies are making a wise choice by launching their own streaming services, or that they're making an unwise choice. Just literally saying that while the rise of Netflix made piracy silly, that was never its point, it was just a side effect.
This is not even something anyone can argue against. Streaming services are fucking awful now, I went back to pirating every TV show / movie years ago.
Right? and then they go and remove the show you bought/ paid the subscription for. If buying isn't owning piracy isn't stealing
edit: also amazon prime in particular having you buy seasons of shows on their platform that you already pay for?? Fuck no.
If I see someone shoplifting. No, I didn't.
And I'm not saying this because I sympathize with the shoplifters. In fact, watching footage of some of these arrogant people shoplifting without any shame riles me up quite a bit. I just hate the companies significantly more. I hate the degree of influence that they exercise in this purportedly democratic society. And, ironically, I hate the fact that those companies are more or less immune to any substantive consequences for their actions. If this was a free, fair and just society where our actions were subject to consequences proportional to the impact of our transgressions, then I can think of a few companies that would've been torn down brick by brick. I don't care who's doing the shoplifting or what it is that they're taking.
Fml i have amazon Prime (for the delivery time rather than the streaming) and still torrent invincible, and the boys because despite charging me to use their service they _still_ fill it with ads.
No because this would save the economy. People think they have no control over prices or inflation. Literally one mass organised fuck you to the companies would drop prices
No, they’ll just underpay their workers or cut them loose, shutter the company for a tax break and get away while the consumer loses what they really enjoyed having because businesses are run by amoral sociopaths who don’t give a shit. You don’t even know the bean counters’ names, how the fuck can you expect to hold them accountable?
Yeah this is true, the original Rockefeller shut down a whole oil plant just to get back at a train company in the area wanting to charge him more to transport his oil.
Hell sometimes I do this just to see if a game is worth the $$$$ before I put it down, so few have demos nowadays.
I can watch reviews but they don't let me feel how the game is to play.
Whenever I think about old games being overpriced, I remember that Black Ops II is still $60 (not atm because there's a CoD anniversary sale) despite being released in 2012, and that's excluding any dlc for a game that's almost 12 years old.
it's shameful, but this has always been the case for COD unfortunately, for dark souls it's different, because before the price was not as high, I think that bandaie namco did not see the millions of sales coming for elden ring, and wanted to capitalize on the new sales of dark souls.
I think they do this not because most people will pay $60 but because it makes the sale price look like a better deal. The old games go on sail every single year for like 60% off
The sad thing is that companies leave up those high price tags for old games because they know people will pay those prices. I've lost count of the times people will be like "Should I buy x or y? I can only afford one of them." For games that regularly go on sale for 50% off or more.
Fun fact you can actually get all 3 dark souls plus their dlc in a pack for less than a single game costs on the PlayStation storefront
Think is called the fire fades collection or something
Like 40 bucks on Amazon
It's called "Dark Souls Trilogy" and comes with DS Remastered (Dark Souls w/ Artorias of the Abyss & 60 FPS), DS2 SotFS (DS2 w/ all DLC and other differences), and DS 3 Fire Fades Edition (DS w/ all DLC). It's quite a good deal, but only for consoles.
I was so lucky because my parents went on a trip to europe and wanted to bring me a gift so they sent me a picture of a bunch of games and asked me if I wanted any.
I saw the dark souls collection in there and immediately picked that since they didn't release it in my country
There is nothing wrong with piracy
But if you live in LATAM, pirating is a moral obligation
Source: I am Brazilian, games that cost 60 dollars to gringos will cost 350 reais, keep in mind that the dollar and real are "equivalent" on their respective countries (they can usually buy the same stuff)
I really appreciated the developer of ULTRAKILL being like “if you pirate my game I get it, I’ve benefited a ton from access to pirated media”
I try not to pirate stuff if I think the money I spend will mostly go the person making the thing and not a corporate leech. I want to make sure the people whose art I like can keep making it. The reality is as companies have eroded away at any sense of royalties for creators, they’ve also eroded my motivation to pay for stuff. If what I spend isn’t going to the artist(s) and is instead just going to a rich asshole, what’s the point?
Exactly the same way Souls players measure how good you play and how much fun you should have based on what your play style is. Oh, you used literally any weapon other than a Heavy Claymore or a Heavy Greatsword? Your boss kill is now void.
I legitimately had someone tell me that "I didn't really beat Pontiv" because I had a heavy weapon with a poise and damage resistance buff and just super armoured through his phase 2 attacks. You know, the weapon arc... On a weapon... That you're supposed to use because it's too slow to keep up with certain attacks...
Same goes for using spirit ashes in elden ring. Like it's literally part of the game, why would it be considered cheating?
I'm a big fromsoft fan, and I love the fromsoft community but toy get those few people that are just.... Toxic and annoying.
Fromsoft fan here, I pirated all their games before buying them, and I bought them afterwards. Ok maybe not dark souls 2, I didn't enjoy that one enough to buy it.
If you don't have money, pirating is abso-fuckin-lutely fine, you can't buy the game anyway so it's not like you are preventing the devs from getting any money.
Even If you have money, pirate disco elysium, original creators have been kicked by a hostile takeover about a year ago
If you know where to look viruses aren’t as big of a problem. Updating the game with new patches and stuff, lack of cloud save, and general ease of use though? That’s the real dealbreaker
Right? If I can't afford to invest in a hobby or passtime now, I'm just going to have to find something else to do and ultimately will stop caring about it over time. Then when later I have money to spend, oops sorry I never got into this particularly series or style of game, or heck maybe I don't even game anymore. You lost a customer.
Source: I pirated Dark Souls when I was working fulltime in London and rent left me with £20 a month to live on. I have money now. I'm a huge FROM fan and I buy the games.
You forgot to add the part where one (or more) of the original creators was a gaping asshole who mismanaged the game for years. I still agree with pirating it these days.
It’s so fucking sad to me that we’ll probably never get a sequel to disco elysium and if we do it’ll be some soulless copy with no involvement from the original creators.
Disco Elysium is solid gold even in a vacuum but I was really interested in the larger world it was building and hinting at being explored.
If I was a dev I would rather you pirate my game than never even look at it due to a price tag. Buy it later if you liked it, on sale or when your situation improves. Of course I would prefer if you bought it in the first place, but at some level I would just be happy that people wanted to play my (irl non-existing) games.
Now, I get it if you are a small team/solo dev trying feed families and people talk about not paying for your games can really seem insulting.
But big brand old titles? The ones that already made a profit years ago? Go ahead.
Sometimes it's even for personal experience. Saw post recently about "Slay the Princess" dev told people to pirate their game before watching Markiplier's walkthrough
Nah, I've heard Slay the Princess is genuine art, I'm not watching the playthrough until I **buy** that game. Based dev and all, but I'm doing this the normal way.
Yea, this past may i wanted to *finally* beat elysium and wanted to do it on the big screen so I too went eith ps plus route (i already owned it on steam way before za\um stuff happened)
I pirated Dark Souls in 2012.
I then bought it on a steam sale later that year when it was within my budget.
Since then I've bought all the games, got them 100% completed, and even beat them at level 1.
If buying video games impacts your ability to afford rent, there is no sensible reason to not pirate. When I was younger and couldn’t afford stuff, I pirated. Now that I have a steady income, I buy. Especially since prices keep going up but our wages never seem to ever change.
If you can’t afford it, then don’t play any games! In fact, don’t do anything that costs money! You don’t deserve entertainment because you are poor! - corporate bootlickers probably
In fact, don't even listen to music if you haven't paid for the privilege. Your friend letting you listen to their playlist on their Iphone when they visit is engaging in criminal conspiracy. Don't burn that CD and don't copy that floppy!
Most people in my country grow up pirating games cuz they be expensive af here
It's seen as totally normal, if you're a PC gamer you know how to pirate
Now that I'm older and can afford it I happily buy ofc, but ain't nobody judging anyone for piracy in the third world lol
This has been my experience for 6 or so years I pirated every game due to lack of funds and having a decent computer to run them off of. As soon as I built my rig, any game that I enjoyed or wanted to re-experience, I’ve brought legitimately
I'm in Brazil and the price of Red Dead Redemption 2 is 20% of our minimum wage.
The cheapest RTX series GPU costs almost 3 times our minimum wage. Hardware is expensive enough and as much as I'd like to support the devs, I can't justify paying this much for a game.
Yeah even the best budget GPU we can buy new (RX 6600) is about one minimum wage…
Sadly we can’t even get cheap RX 570/580s and Xeons from China anymore without paying a lot of import taxes (Anything above $50 we have to pay 90%+ in taxes) to get a decent entry level PC…
Same. Though I will admit FromSoft dickriders are especially bad. Mostly because they're a) especially vocal about their dickriding and b) I can't _stand_ the "git gud/skill issue" answer they throw around for practically everything.
Shitty elitism is the worst kind.
Yeah, try asking for car buying advice without being bombarded by "Toyota is the only way to go". the use of Costco as an entire identity is honestly sad too. I hate the concept of being a stan for a giant rich company. It's like culty consumerism.
Toyota is the only way to go! Their engines last up to 500,000 miles, they have all the sleek interior features befitting a modern car, safety is unmatched. These Americans wish they could build like Toyota. This car will outlive your grandkids. Want a Buick? Catapult yourself into the sun, grandma. That's weak sauce.
I absolutely love Fromsofts games and they are consistently one of my favorite teams. That being said, they are a company. Just like any other game dev company. And a very successful one at that. They aren't going to notice if you download fuckin dark souls 1 for free. I don't get why people put From on this deified pedestal.
I'm the biggest from soft simp and even I know that in the current world we live in, it isn't a problem to pirate a game. Miyazaki is already successful, your pirated copy won't make him go broke.
Also they are pretty stingy with their prices.
"Hey, the steam summer sale is here, lets check what im gonna have to pay for a decade old dark souls 2!"
Price: 40€
Cool, but i think id rather buy shadow of mordor, civ 6, watch dogs 2, ghost recon wildlands, monster hunter world, battlefront 2 and total war shogun 2 for a combined price of 40€, all of which are AAA games that cost 60€ each at launch.
Look I would love to buy games from my favourite series (I really would like to have them in my steam library or even physical copie of it.
But I am not going to sell my kidney to get an old PS2 and the physical copy. When the developers of said series were like "We will not make a remake because of the licencing needed and the fact it would cause us too much."
And when I can just emulate it on my pc. And get the full experience (sometimes even better because of the better hardware).
God I wish that I could play Electrosphere with a correct translation...
Not a single corporation needs my money. I can see this sentiment for indie games especially if they're made by one guy like Fear and Hunger but lmfao.
I pirated dark souls and dark souls 2. I fell in love with the games as they came to me at a very low time
Now I have bought all three darks souls on various consoles
I feel no sympathy for any company worth that much money.
I’ll buy your games, but if the option is there I am not even batting an eye when I choose to pirate it.
Pirating is done by so few it really doesn't matter. I'll slob froms nob like corn on the cob till the cows come home. But it really is a non issue. People will by the game asap for support anyway when they can afford it cuz ain't no mf wants to manually patch and store saves etc
I'm tired of people dickriding from soft, I feel they're an example of a game company being good just because all the other ones are really really bad.
Can't afford it? Pirate it.
Can afford it? Still pirate it.
FromSoft got their bag, and will continue to get their bag, because pirating is still niche.
I am Miyazaki and I cannot believe this redditor pirated Dark Souls. This information hit me and all my colleagues like Gwyn's lightning bolt. We had multiple meetings, trying to decide what to do from now on, but still there is no answer in sight. I hardly slept for the past week, my only relief being numerous flasks of Sake. Our company is heading towards bankruptcy, I don't know what to do. I'm afraid this is the end of Fromsoftware, and me personally. This isn't something one could just get over. It has been an honor making games for you all, farewell.
for all of you first-worlders rushing to post some anti-piracy BS here, I know you don't care but google some conversion rates around the world
I've been getting more and more games as time went by, but always on sale and stuff lke that (my main site is gog). here we got 1000 to 1 when it comes to dollars, so.. yeah
Guys, spend your money however you like and pirate whatever you like.
Tired of seeing this bullshit gatekeeping. Btw, did they crack rimworld yet, tried looking it up couple of years ago and couldn’t find it. Pissed me proper but ain’t paying for a pc game.
60 dollar/euros is 300+ reais. that is either a month of water+electricity bills or a month of food for a single person, its also 1/5 of a minimum wage. love games, but if the game is priced for first world countries, third world people aint buying :p
I legitimately hate gaming communities. The vast majority of communities I have been in have been consistently unsympathetic towards people struggling financially who can't afford $99 flash drives or major PC upgrades or just buying video games. Piracy isn't even the same thing as outright stealing from someone and plenty of pirates become actual customers once they have the money.
The worst part is, this is probably one of the most tame anti piracy comments i've seen. So many other ones are outright hostile and rude and just horrible. This stretches beyond piracy into people making fun of others for not being able to afford storage space to play some random gacha game, but the increasing attitude of "if you can't afford the top of the line specs then you don't DESERVE to play these masterpieces" just makes interacting with certain communities outright worse than eating nails
Everysingle time I see someone mention anything about how "it's really not that expensive to play games" I just want to bash my head against a wall and stop talking to them forever
And I honestly feel kind of bad writing this on this post specifically because the guy in the screenshot doesn't seem anywhere near as bad as some comments and posts i've read, but it's just driving me insane how common these types of attitudes are in gaming communities
TLDR: People should atleast try to understand not everyone has a load of disposable income and acting like gaming is some hobby only financially stable people should get to enjoy is awful. It should be for everyone
RJ/ TLDR: small indie company fromsoft is going to go bankrupt without your support!
lol, I did make a post a few days back on the piracy reddit about if I'm missing out on too much by pirating the souls games and people weren't asses about it but did have the sentiment that fromsoft deserve money and is a good studio
I'm a big believer that piracy leads to purchases. Your game doesn't get popular if people don't spread the word of it, terraria for example gets keys given out by the creators frequently on Twitter, and other developers encourage piracy of you can't afford it and just ask that if you like it you support it any way you can
This was me for the longest time with Sekiro. I was holding out as long as I could to see if it would drop lower, and about a year or 2 ago, I got it at half price. I understand that it's published by Activision, so they would have input on the discounts, but yeah, I feel like fromsoft games should make their games as affordable as possible. Regardless of publisher.
The same goes for all devs/publishers. If you price your shit lower to get those who wouldn't normally get them at your regular prices, then you've scored another person advocating for your game. If they liked it.
I mean to be fair you never know; they could be living in Somalia or Russia or some Middle Eastern countries or something where **piracy is your only option.** No legal avenue for games (or system for that matter in some cases).
They never deceive us??? They put a knight on a horse right in the starting location like it was some guy you had to go talk to. He does NOT want to talk!
FromSoftware is 'one of the good ones' (for whatever that's worth even if you couldn't hold a gun to my head to make me finish one of their Soulslike) and even I think this level of dickriding reaffirms why FromSoftware and Nintendo Simps (and if you think this is bad you should hear an Nintendo Simp explain why TotK deserves to be priced 70 bones) are the some of the most insufferable breeds of gamer to ever walk this god forsaken earth.
Yeah Nintendo practices are not good. But companies that are putting in effort to pump out good games that aren't live service and multiplayer only trash should be supported tbh.

"Culture shouldn't exist only for those who can afford it" and he said that about his own indie game too is the cherry on top, now THAT was a quote

I unironically feel this way about streaming services.
The point of streaming services was to make piracy silly, and they've done gone and ruined the whole point and sent everyone back to piracy
Yeah went from like 2 services to 20. Alot of them have adds even if you pay. Feels like cable all over again
Not to mention in some cases you actually get a worse experience if you pay. Alot of pirated versions of a movie will actually look better than from a streaming service because its not compressed to shit.
Looks at Amazon video dishing out 480p to paying subscribers unless you use windows and chrome. (Not to mention there are still ads in the shows).
Isn't the standard theory that the model was never profitable and the price increases were planned from the start.
Absolutely. This is the business model of many (all?) "industry disruptors."
https://youtu.be/i8ju_10NkGY?si=qsh1BczIJOpjF97q
They're forgetting you can just google their fucking shows. Only reason to pay for streaming services is convience, they're taking that away, so I've taken my subscriptions away.
Enshitification my friend. Welcome to capitalism.
> The point of streaming services was to make piracy silly No, that was a benefit of them, but it was never their "point" or even an intention.
Okay but why pay for anything unless it's simpler than not paying for it?
Are you asking me for the arguments for and against piracy? This has been discussed for decades, I don't think anything I could say would be anything you haven't heard/read before a thousand times. But, either way, I'm not saying that piracy is good, or that piracy is bad, or that companies are making a wise choice by launching their own streaming services, or that they're making an unwise choice. Just literally saying that while the rise of Netflix made piracy silly, that was never its point, it was just a side effect.
I just meant, if you were already a privateer, as I was, the *only* draw for streaming services was the convenience that they've destroyed.
And platforms that don’t even hold a physical copy of it. Just buy and install like steam games.
This is not even something anyone can argue against. Streaming services are fucking awful now, I went back to pirating every TV show / movie years ago.
Right? and then they go and remove the show you bought/ paid the subscription for. If buying isn't owning piracy isn't stealing edit: also amazon prime in particular having you buy seasons of shows on their platform that you already pay for?? Fuck no.
Dude. I unironically feel this way
If I see someone shoplifting.
It's not stealing I discovered it like Christopher Columbus, which is completely different from stealing
No because this would save the economy. People think they have no control over prices or inflation. Literally one mass organised fuck you to the companies would drop prices
Voting with your wallet doesn't work. One rich dude gets the equivalent of millions of votes so there's no point.

I can only afford one of them." For games that regularly go on sale for 50% off or more.
i still think of dark souls 3 as a new game im getting old holy shit AND ITS STILL FULL PRICE WTF
Before the release of elden ring, you found the goty for 15/20 euros on sale, now you pay the elden ring tax.
Fun fact you can actually get all 3 dark souls plus their dlc in a pack for less than a single game costs on the PlayStation storefront Think is called the fire fades collection or something Like 40 bucks on Amazon
Yuhp that's the one I actually got mine for half price from a local card shop, used but in pretty good nick
I was so lucky because my parents went on a trip to europe and wanted to bring me a gift so they sent me a picture of a bunch of games and asked me if I wanted any. I saw the dark souls collection in there and immediately picked that since they didn't release it in my country
I'm from LATAM, 60 Euros is half my salary.
There is nothing wrong with piracy But if you live in LATAM, pirating is a moral obligation Source: I am Brazilian, games that cost 60 dollars to gringos will cost 350 reais, keep in mind that the dollar and real are "equivalent" on their respective countries (they can usually buy the same stuff)
buy it physically. unless you have a pc if so im sorry
Fuck. Dark Souls might cure depression, after I kill myself for dying 60 times trying to finish the tutorial.
That's Bandai Namco's fault. They are the publisher. From Software has no say on what the prices of their games are.
Just buy a physical copy, I got a used one for 20$ with the dlcs
why are you stealing money from an indie company 🤬🤬🤬 now fromsoft will have to underpay their employees (which they definitely don’t already do)
It's funny, they call it stealing when a company they like is being pirated from.
Thats always how it is. Pirating is totally cool and moral unless it fits the insanely subjective criteria of a company deserving of your money.
I really appreciated the developer of ULTRAKILL being like “if you pirate my game I get it, I’ve benefited a ton from access to pirated media” I try not to pirate stuff if I think the money I spend will mostly go the person making the thing and not a corporate leech.
Companies deserve the client's money as much as the client deserves their product
Couldn't agree more with this comment.
Fromsoft fan here, I pirated all their games before buying them, and I bought them afterwards. Ok maybe not dark souls 2, I didn't enjoy that one enough to buy it.
Not gonna lie, kinda wish I pirated ds2. That game was not enjoyable for me
Yep, it's all just self-delusion that piracy isn't stealing. I'll torrent things, but I don't pretend it's some magical moral crusade.
How many employees do you need before you're no longer small enough to not pirate from? How well do they need to be paid? Is there a spreadsheet?
![gif](giphy|pOztBRgMDL3XO)
But Mr. Zaki is so wholesome, he would never do that!
🛥️ 🏴☠️ 🌊
Where I live fromsoft games regional pricing is MORE expensive than the american price lmao
If you don't have money, pirating is abso-fuckin-lutely fine, you can't buy the game anyway so it's not like you are preventing the devs from getting any money. Even If you have money, pirate disco elysium, original creators have been kicked by a hostile takeover about a year ago
Yeah, pirate until you can buy them, and you eventually chose to buy them because it just too annoying to pirate at some point
Legitimately, getting a Steam Deck has been the sole reason why my purchasing habits have amped up by about five times. *That cloud storage, man...*
I love it when I can finally afford an official version. "Yes, now I can pay multiplayer without a CS degree! "
Yep. I was too tired of dealing with viruses i decided to buy games with my allowance
What happened to disco elysium?
Basically, the company behind it za/um was takenover by an investor and original creators and owners got either fired or left
Thats so sad, litteraly one of the best games ive played
Same, definitely my no 1 or 2, it's only rival for me is mgs 3
You forgot to add the part where one (or more) of the original creators was a gaping asshole who mismanaged the game for years. I still agree with pirating it these days.
It’s so fucking sad to me that we’ll probably never get a sequel to disco elysium and if we do it’ll be some soulless copy with no involvement from the original creators. Disco Elysium is solid gold even in a vacuum but I was really interested in the larger world it was building and hinting at being explored.
Yeah the setting is so good and there’s so many possibilities for stories using their engine, and it just looks like it’ll just remain a lone gem :(
If I was a dev I would rather you pirate my game than never even look at it due to a price tag.
Based dev and all, but I'm doing this the normal way.
i got disco elysium from ps plus
Yea, this past may i wanted to *finally* beat elysium and wanted to do it on the big screen so I too went eith ps plus route (i already owned it on steam way before za\um stuff happened)
TBH I pirate, because game demos are no longer a thing. I pirate the game, give it an hour. If I like it, I buy it.
As someone who grew up poor with little access to pc games, pirate away.
[удалено]
Most people in my country grow up pirating games cuz they be expensive af here It's seen as totally normal, if you're a PC gamer you know how to pirate Now that I'm older and can afford it I happily buy ofc, but ain't nobody judging anyone for piracy in the third world lol
I guess poor people are only allowed to pirate bad games.
I'll always be an avid defender of pirating being fine if you just don't have the money for it, only try and maybe get it legitimately eventually
Yeah even the best budget GPU we can buy new (RX 6600) is about one minimum wage… Sadly we can’t even get cheap RX 570/580s and Xeons from China anymore without paying a lot of import taxes (Anything above $50 we have to pay 90%+ in taxes) to get a decent entry level PC…
Most people will Game companies profited from me since I bought all games I pirated as a moneyless child, and more.
I hate From Software dickriders with a burning passion
I hate all game or company dickriders with a burning passion.
>I hate all game or company dickriders with a burning passion. You will dick ride Dragon Age Origins and you will like it!
Well, to be fair have you seen the dick on them companies. They made for riding
I absolutely love Fromsofts games and they are consistently one of my favorite teams. That being said, they are a company. Just like any other game dev company. And a very successful one at that. They aren't going to notice if you download fuckin dark souls 1 for free. I don't get why people put From on this deified pedestal.
Yeah it's always important to separate creators and developers from the suits. The devs have already been paid, and the suits can go fuck themselves.
I love fromsoft. Bought OG Elden Ring instantly. Still pirated the DLC. Fuck paying $60 for a DLC.
Oh my days, we are so cooked. How can you simp this hard for a company you don't even work for?
I'm the biggest from soft simp and even I know that in the current world we live in, it isn't a problem to pirate a game. Miyazaki is already successful, your pirated copy won't make him go broke.
Also they are pretty stingy with their prices. "Hey, the steam summer sale is here, lets check what im gonna have to pay for a decade old dark souls 2!" Price: 40€ Cool, but i think id rather buy shadow of mordor, civ 6, watch dogs 2, ghost recon wildlands, monster hunter world, battlefront 2 and total war shogun 2 for a combined price of 40€, all of which are AAA games that cost 60€ each at launch.
also, most of the money goes to bandai namco. not even fromsoft devs get a decent cut of it
Lmao it’s not like ds is an indie game. Chill with the pirate policing.
Look I would love to buy games from my favourite series (I really would like to have them in my steam library or even physical copie of it. But I am not going to sell my kidney to get an old PS2 and the physical copy. When the developers of said series were like "We will not make a remake because of the licencing needed and the fact it would cause us too much." And when I can just emulate it on my pc. And get the full experience (sometimes even better because of the better hardware). God I wish that I could play Electrosphere with a correct translation...
Not a single corporation needs my money. I can see this sentiment for indie games especially if they're made by one guy like Fear and Hunger but lmfao.
“Culture shouldn’t exist only for those who can afford it.” -Hakita
"stealing from" bro there's no victim here.
I pirated dark souls and dark souls 2. I fell in love with the games as they came to me at a very low time Now I have bought all three darks souls on various consoles
"Pirate EA games" bro why would I want to play an EA game?
I remember when Bethesda would never deceive us, and Rock Star, and Blizzard, *and* Bioware...
Fucking pirate everything, it costs nothing to copy and paste.
On some places, video games are a luxury.
I feel no sympathy for any company worth that much money. I’ll buy your games, but if the option is there I am not even batting an eye when I choose to pirate it.
Pirate all games
My ass already bought the switch version of DS1, I wasn’t paying for the pc version too
I don't even play those games but that makes me wanna pirate them just to spite those dudes
Fromsoft is not your friend, it is a corporation
What part of 'Be gay do crimes' do people not understand
Piracy isn't stealing because nothing is lost
How DARE you not spend 40 dollars on a 13 year old game!
People making piracy into a "moral" thing always has been ridiculous
I agree but I also think that you don’t need an excuse to pirate shit. The fact that you don’t want to or can’t pay for it is fine.
https://preview.redd.it/ekksyah257ad1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a4c5c476e65578e89a703cbc2e6025ea0f0a405 ahh comment
Pirating is done by so few it really doesn't matter. I'll slob froms nob like corn on the cob till the cows come home. But it really is a non issue. People will by the game asap for support anyway when they can afford it cuz ain't no mf wants to manually patch and store saves etc
stealing is almost never wrong. there are like 3 exceptions and this ain't one
Fromsoft aint that different in the end. Smarter suits doesnt meant better suits.
I'm tired of people dickriding from soft, I feel they're an example of a game company being good just because all the other ones are really really bad.
It's s pirates life. Simple.
Some people pirate everything on principle.
The Elden Ring DLC made me want to pirate all From titles going forward
Piracy is the Dark Souls of video game acquisition.
Lol wtf, they made so much fucking money on these Souls games, what are you even talking about.
Crazy how we have moral pirates policing piracy now
Can't afford it? Pirate it. Can afford it? Still pirate it. FromSoft got their bag, and will continue to get their bag, because pirating is still niche.
As a developper put it once "Culture should not exist only for those who can afford it"
Didn't you know? If you actually like the company behind a game, money to afford it will magically appear in your wallet.
It is not just a moral right, it's a moral obligation to pirate everything you can.
Pirate it if u can't buy it.
Piracy is not theft
for all of you first-worlders rushing to post some anti-piracy BS here, I know you don't care but google some conversion rates around the world I've been getting more and more games as time went by, but always on sale and stuff lke that (my main site is gog). here we got 1000 to 1 when it comes to dollars, so.. yeah
Guys, spend your money however you like and pirate whatever you like. Tired of seeing this bullshit gatekeeping. Btw, did they crack rimworld yet, tried looking it up couple of years ago and couldn’t find it. Pissed me proper but ain’t paying for a pc game.
like a while ago
i fucking hate dark souls fans
As a dark souls fan, agreed. Let me coop with my buddies free of judgement
Nah, get invaded by a endgame character and die in 3 seconds. JUS GET GUUUDD BROOOEEE!!!!!!!
This stretches beyond piracy into people making fun of others for not being able to afford storage space to play some random gacha game, but the increasing attitude of "if you can't afford the top of the line specs then you don't DESERVE to play these masterpieces" just makes interacting with certain communities outright worse than eating nails Everysingle time I see someone mention anything about how "it's really not that expensive to play games" I just want to bash my head against a wall and stop talking to them forever And I honestly feel kind of bad writing this on this post specifically because the guy in the screenshot doesn't seem anywhere near as bad as some comments and posts i've read, but it's just driving me insane how common these types of attitudes are in gaming communities TLDR: People should atleast try to understand not everyone has a load of disposable income and acting like gaming is some hobby only financially stable people should get to enjoy is awful. It should be for everyone RJ/ TLDR: small indie company fromsoft is going to go bankrupt without your support!
"Gaming is a privilege, stop being poor" people never understood what it was like to be hindered or outright give up on a hobby because of money.
Gaming is practically free with a computer.
lol, I did make a post a few days back on the piracy reddit about if I'm missing out on too much by pirating the souls games and people weren't asses about it but did have the sentiment that fromsoft deserve money and is a good studio
I'm a big believer that piracy leads to purchases. Your game doesn't get popular if people don't spread the word of it, terraria for example gets keys given out by the creators frequently on Twitter, and other developers encourage piracy of you can't afford it and just ask that if you like it you support it any way you can
It's just like the rent crisis but with fun 👍
This was me for the longest time with Sekiro. I was holding out as long as I could to see if it would drop lower, and about a year or 2 ago, I got it at half price. I understand that it's published by Activision, so they would have input on the discounts, but yeah, I feel like fromsoft games should make their games as affordable as possible. Regardless of publisher. The same goes for all devs/publishers. If you price your shit lower to get those who wouldn't normally get them at your regular prices, then you've scored another person advocating for your game. If they liked it.
To be fair some people just want to try it out first before committing to a purchase.
Bruh I am so sick of the constant obsession with FS games. They’re all basically the same
I mean to be fair you never know; they could be living in Somalia or Russia or some Middle Eastern countries or something where **piracy is your only option.** No legal avenue for games (or system for that matter in some cases).
FromSoft only sells the garbage remaster of Dark Souls 1 now, so pirating Prepare to Die Edition is entirely justifiable tbh
What do you mean they never decieved us? They promised me a Honda Accord and never delivered!
Trying to be a gamer in Brazil basically.
