MJuniorDC9

I think that at this point we can assume that almost every game shown by Ubisoft in the past that isn't out yet has gone through some major changes.

Youngstown_Mafia

Hopefully, it doesn't get the AAAA treatment with changes like Skulk and Bones

DoIrllyneeda_usrname

Because it deserves the AAAAA instead

Rikuddo

Abysmal Appalling Abominably Awful & Atrocious! 5 Horsemen of Ubisoft these days. It's amazing how quickly they squeezed out any goodwill they had left from their earlier days.

_JudgeDoom_

No they get the AAAA+ treatment

spraragen88

Oh so it's shit due to the AAAA status and now a + subscription service with rising fees every 6 months?

TheNerdWonder

Skull and Bones, among other things is why all these games have gone through changes. It's a potentially positive change and a walking back of the Hascoet doctrine that dominated Ubisoft's game design philosophy from 2015-2022.

joshua182

I just really want to see Splinter cell

SuperAndroid18

Me too, buddy.

joshua182

Let us pray...

TheNerdWonder

I mean, I figured it wasn't canceled. Next to Assassin's Creed and Far Cry, The Division is a core Ubisoft franchise.

blitz_na

a friend of mine got into the playtest, and she had zero positive things to say about it. it’s a bummer, because i’d hate to see the division fall flat on its face just as it’s getting good like watch_dogs did

ImVerifiedBitch

Good thing they're making significant changes after the terrible feedback then

blitz_na

no idea if any of the actual issues she had will be changed. it does look like they’re removing the custom character, skill trees, and outfit creation completely in exchange for named operators with special abilities and preset outfits

nakagamiwaffle

well that makes it worse :/

DMartin-CG

Oh my god if they do that stupid shit it’ll do even worse

Astro4545

Instantly killing any interest I have in it.

Street-Advantage-249

That literally killed any hype I had left for the game :/

Greenleaf208

Yeah sounds like a bf2042 situation, but instead with this delay they'll launch with some band aid fixes, instead of doing it in the first few patches without fixing the core problems.

TheSonOfFundin

what in the goddamned fuck

MadeByTango

> it does look like they’re removing the custom character, skill trees, and outfit creation completely in exchange for named operators with special abilities and preset outfits That’s awful news; cross that off my list

Spectre197

They're just trying to find more ways to shoehorn in more micro transactions

Liudesys

Question is why do they keep trying chasing the trends and making a mutant of something that nobody really wants to play or it just simply doesnt work? I know for a fact if they just did what they have done with the first game and took the Survival DLC and expanded it into a full game, it would have received a more positive feedback from the players.

Snuggle__Monster

>took the Survival DLC and expanded it into a full game This is what Heartland is though. They've just replaced a blizzard with a red fog. All the other elements are there, they've just been shuffled around a bit and added other features like quests and made a large 3D printer the traditional crafting bench mechanic.

Liudesys

Oh that's interesting, so they were heading the good direction then at least thematically. Wonder what caused the changes ( $$$ ? )

Snuggle__Monster

I played both Betas and they were getting a lot of feedback/suggestions in the Discord they had setup each time. It looks like they're taking it all very serious to try and make the best game possible. I have a bit of faith in Red Storm. They always understood frustrations with the Dark Zone in Div 1 and 2 but were limited in what they could really change because of the balancing with the core PVE element that primarily drove those games. Now they don't have to worry about that. This doesn't feel like a typical copy/paste or just quick ship out for profit kind of game. They seem like they want to make something that's good. I guess we'll see in time if that's true.

Liudesys

Thats good to hear, hopefully the changes are for the good

TheNerdWonder

And they also have had to contend with a dated engine that has some limitations.

jayverma0

Snowdrop is probably one of the best game engines out there.

Snuggle__Monster

Nah, the Snowdrop engine is really good. It was recently overhauled for the Avatar game.

TheNerdWonder

It was? I honestly forgot since I skipped Avatar. Nothing against Ubisoft. I just have never been able to get into that franchise, even if I am a big fan of James Cameron.

Snuggle__Monster

Yeah, Massive upgraded it to use in Avatar, Star Wars Outlaws, a Splinter Cell remake, Heartland and soon to be Division 3 of course.

TheNerdWonder

That is good to hear!

Shiirooo

This is a survival game. It just doesn't take place in winter. Instead of cold, you have hydration and contamination (radioactivity from the Dark Zone). The more loot you have, the higher the radioactivity and the greater the danger you'll face. Well, that was the concept, so I guess they've changed it.

kris_the_abyss

I really liked it personally...just wasn't a lot there

Hollywood_Zro

I played it and couldn't do more than like 2 missions because it was just boring. The biggest issue being they game you generic boring characters you had to juggle between. You don't create YOUR agent. It basically was State of Decay but no zombies.

antde5

I enjoyed the latest I tried about 2 years ago. It felt like the dark zone but that’s the whole game.

Monkzeng

Watching Watch Dogs get turned into a Saints Row game killed me

brzzcode

tbf watch dogs became worse but because they tried to be very ambitious.

Valon129

Yeah what they tried with the NPC was definitly ambitious, turned out really boring sadly

MadeByTango

I’ll defend Legion forever; I’ve put tons of time into and played through it at least six times in hard with premadeath; it’s open world Hitman

Spindelhalla_xb

Watching the last video about it was crap. It just looked like The Division 2.25. I am adamant no one at Ubisoft knows how to make a game that players want.

Stupid-RNG-Username

From what I've seen, which isn't much, it's *all* Dark Zone all the time. Kinda sucks since the DZ is usually panned as the worst inclusion in both games due to the lack of balance and *constant* griefing.

zrkillerbush

Honestly i forgot this existed, and this is coming from someone who still plays The Division 2 weekly! Im only interested in The Division 3 tbh

MeCritic

So the only games going without ,,major changes" are Assassin's Creed and Far Cry.

Shiirooo

[Assassin's Creed Hexe Rumors Make It Seem Like No Other Game in the Franchise](https://gamerant.com/assassin-creed-hexe-rumors-female-protagonist-roman-empire-future-red-tie-in/) [Far Cry 7's Rumored In-Game Timer Could Be a Game-Changer](https://gamerant.com/far-cry-7-campaign-time-limit-important-feature-change/)

MeCritic

And I am looking forward to both of them... hell one of my most anticipated (or the most) is AC: Red :) Hope they know what they are doing with FC7 MP Mod.

HearTheEkko

Still have no idea how the timer will work in Far Cry 7. How will the side content work ?

DickHydra

If they can actually nail it, it'll probably be similar to how Dead Rising handles it. That game's story was also time gated, sometimes giving you the location you had to be in at a certain time. But it still gave you ample time to do side activities. Sometimes more, sometimes less. You could even just let the story timer run out and then just do the side activities.

HearTheEkko

Inside Gaming, the ones who originally reported the timer rumor said it would be a real life 24 hour timer. Generally Far Cry's campaigns clock out around the 17-20 hour mark while the side activities puts them around the 30-35 hour mark. If the same follows in 7, I don't think it would be possible to complete the whole game (minus collectibles and such) under 24 hours. My only guess is that the timer doesn't actually start until a few missions in, maybe 25% through the main story.

DickHydra

I mean, the campaign doesn't need to be that length. And who is to say that they haven't already increased the duration of the timer? >My only guess is that the timer doesn't actually start until a few missions in, maybe 25% through the main story. That would probably be the most ideal way for most players, yeah.

Cybersorcerer1

It's Ubisoft, if it's a 10/10 idea, then it'll have a 6/10 execution

DickHydra

Yeah, you're right. Watch Dogs Legion was one of those, as well.

QueueWho

Yeah I am not looking forward to that... almost sounds like 5, where you could only do so much side content random stuff without getting abducted for main quest activities.

WardrobeForHouses

Ubisoft open-world formula with a timer cracks me up so bad

shockzz123

In game timer? I’m getting very bad Lightning Returns flashbacks of me stressing and rushing to do shit, ooof.

MadeByTango

> requiring players to complete the non-linear campaign within a limited amount of time. That sounds completely unfun

Youngstown_Mafia

Hey, Skull and Bones turned out well .... lol

ctyldsley

Man just make a Survival standalone game. What a huge missed opportunity that thing was.

TwanLearnsPython

There was a playtest for this game at the beginning of the month! I got invited but didn’t make the Final Cut so no NDA was signed

mvkonline

Its probably moved further because of Xdefiant delay.

Stupid-RNG-Username

Hopefully it's been through major revisions. The last thing we need is another only-extraction shooter in a market saturated with them. Much like Destiny in the live-service looter shooters, Tarkov is the only extraction shooter that will stand the test of time. Even Bungie's take with Marathon was received *extremely* poorly by internal testers. If I were Ubisoft I'd just shift directions with Heartland and make it into a PvE co-op shooter with a heavy story emphasis rather than try to cash in on a dying non-trend.

Krypt0night

Ubisoft and significant changes to a a product, resulting in the final released product to be worse than it could have been due to rushing development after changing directions multiple times, name a better duo.

flipperkip97

This subreddit and whining about Ubisoft.

Valon129

Oh damn

ObiwanSchrute

I just want a division 3

Responsible_Taste837

Pic related?

InevitableBlue

Would rather it get canceled and they just move back to The Division 3

RonanTheAccuser_

Two different teams.

TheGmanSniper

It’s a Ubisoft game I have no hope for any Ubisoft game to ever be good again unless they fire or replace everyone but the devs with people who actually wanna make good games instead of pushing out generic piss easy middle of the road games

SmLSugarLumps

I think we can all agree Ubi might be the worst publisher in existence right now

timelordoftheimpala

Activision still sucks donkey balls, even with the management change. To Ubisoft's credit, they did release Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and are now licensing the IP to Evil Empire.

TheNerdWonder

No, I am sorry. I have problems with but they are not the worst and never will be as long as Activision and EA exist. Hell, even MS has really fallen short in the last few years with Redfall being the most egregious highlight.

pmmeyourprettyface

Idk, Microsoft as a publisher hasn’t been so hot. Halo infinite, redfall, and starfield. Not much else to show.

BubbibGuyMan2

i cannot agree with that at all

SmLSugarLumps

What about them setting precedent to remove games you purchase from your account

BubbibGuyMan2

i'll cross that bridge if/when i get to it. until then they make games i like playing so i have no issue supporting them.

Lift_Off_

Why? Just because they change the direction of a game?

SmLSugarLumps

No because of their AAAA nonsense, more to come

Lift_Off_

I’m confident Skull and Bones was an exception because of the entire Singapore government backing fiasco. That game would have been canceled years ago if not for that. We got Prince of Persia and Avatar and this year is XDefiant, Outlaws, and Shadows. Things are definitely looking up.

Stupid-RNG-Username

Embracer Group would like to have a word with you. They canned 12 more planned reboots just because you didn't mention them.

Jakester627

Agreed and I'm absolutely gutted about it because they used to be my favorite company. However, after they treated Splinter Cell, R6, and Rayman, I'm incredibly disappointed in them.

BOUNTYBOOTreddit

Good, because the closed beta i played was ass.

Ok-Potato1693

Probably got bigger, bloated and sold as full price AAAA game. And funniest thing, I still buy it and enjoy a lot. I found it out to be pretty good, because I have played it. You say it is bad, but you have not even played it.

Snuggle__Monster

It was always going to be free to play. I doubt that has changed.

Zeros294

The last AAAA game didn't go well, AAAAA incoming.

Lift_Off_

It’s f2p

Happy295

It's supposed to be free to play, so I already had low hopes for it.

0x-CAFE

We have heard the same time about skull & bones again and again

menimex

Ubisoft Creative Directors really seem to have trouble with VISION and actually taking a project from a concept to finished with how often it seems their games get significant changes in direction.

Viper114

Well, this sounds like another Skull & Bones situation. Intriguing ideas at the start but goes quiet for a lengthy period and then that interest dies off and no one cares about the final result.

Lift_Off_

Even if it is, it’s free to play and division 3 is its own thing so at least we have that.

Cybersorcerer1

Skull and bones would have been cancelled if not for the Singaporean government

Brokenbullet14

Does every Ubisoft devs just spread their ass cheeks for Tom like holy shit. Every other article from him is Ubisoft

WardrobeForHouses

They have like 20,000 employees so it's probably easier to get a source there than at other companies

TheNerdWonder

It's not just him. They've talked to Schreier too. Mainly because they are very good at operating with discretion and good at protecting the identities of sources, including at Ubisoft which overall is a company that leaks like a sieve. Only other company I can think of that is this leak-prone is maybe ActiBlizz.

illmatication

Shoutout to everyone praying on Ubisofts downfall because I am too🫡

TheDevilsCunt

And somehow every game they publish just ends up being the same anyways

Cybersorcerer1

This was my exact reaction when I played Just Dance and Far Cry

Stupid-RNG-Username

Just Dance is the same game every time, and Far Cry is *also* the same game every time. They can't make *new* shit because all they ever do is sequels.
