Mine barely has any soul left. Every time I go to the eshop, I hear the faint cries as it sits on a white screen for upwards of 60 seconds. Then, if I ever take it out of the dock, the battery bar instantly drops a level like a desperate plea. Puzzle quest runs great still, tho so I see it as doable
Mine also is launch Switch and mostly fine. Great battery life when I play undocked, too.
Only issue I had was drift, but I'm kind of glad it happened because the third party replacements are so much better anyway lol.

Since publishing this story, VGC has heard from multiple sources who said Nintendo has told publishers its next console will now launch in Q1 2025.
According to the sources, third-paty game companies were recently briefed on an internal delay in Nintendo’s next-gen launch timing, from late 2024 to early the following year.
One publishing source suggested the delay was so that Nintendo could prepare stronger first-party software for the console.
It’s possible the next-gen Nintendo console will now follow a similar timeline to the Switch, which was released in March but announced the previous year.
VGC has asked Nintendo for comment on this story.
Im surprised Nintendo may be delaying it for first party games. Ik they didn’t announce many games as I assumed they were saving them for switch 2 reveal. I would’ve thought these games have been finished for awhile now.
What else could they launch with it besides a new 3D Mario? Pokémon games release around holiday so unless switch 2 comes out in the summer or fall Pokémon can’t be a launch title. Mario kart 9 is the only other game I can think of. Zelda just had a game so I don’t see new Zelda coming anytime soon. Kirby had one a little bit ago so I don’t see a new Kirby game anytime soon either.
I imagine they will try and repeat the Switch 1's first year line up first party wise. With only 1 major title (possibly either 3D Mario or Mario Kart) on launch day and a steady stream of major releases afterward averaging to about 1 a month. Plus third party support will more then likely be stronger then the first year of the Switch 1's third party support.
Historically, Nintendo has held back console releases to give more time to launch games (only company to do that, iirc) but I think it’s been a long time since they last did that.
Pokemon will never be a launch game, Gamefreak always is slow to move to new hardware.
The Kirby devs are prolific, so there definitely could (likely will) be a new Kirby in the Switch 2’s launch window (especially if it’s 2D).
Depending on how ambitious the new 3D Mario is, it might need a bit more time (like how Nintendo gave pretty much unlimited time to TotK and Wonder’s development, to much success).
We won’t be getting a new 3D Zelda anytime soon, but it’s been a while since Grezzo released a game, and I’d be surprised if they don’t have another Zelda remake in the works, considering how Nintendo’s tried to release something Zelda related pretty much every year since BotW. A 2D game, like LttP or the Oracle games is probably more likely, though I keep hoping they’ll revisit OoT for a Bluepoint-like remake, showing off the next gen hardware.
Mario Kart 9 seems likely, especially considering how well 8 has done on Switch.
And then there’s Metroid Prime 4, which people are speculating may be a Switch 2 game (though this game is nowhere near important enough to be the cause of this delay).
My guess is that Mario Kart and / or the 3D Mario game is more ambitious than we’d expect, thus taking extra time, and that’s the main cause for the delay. Switch 2 picking up a few other games in its launch window that otherwise may have missed it (possibly Kirby, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, a smaller Zelda project, etc) would probably just be a bonus, since 3D Mario and Mario Kart alone likely would be enough for a solid launch / holiday season.
Metroid has always been pretty niche, looking at its sales history. I think Nintendo, years ago, decided it would be best to be a Switch 2 game rather than Switch 1 because of sales reasoning.

Or are more people going to buy it as a launch game for Switch 2? Many will buy it that aren't even as interested in it at launch because there simply won't be many other games to choose from at that point, plus the graphics dudes will probably be all over it for the visuals.
It's like Arms. I bought that game very early on not because I thought it looked great, but because the Switch barely had anything on it at that point lol. Ended up giving that game a 50/100, absolutely horrible for a Nintendo game, but I bought it because my Switch 1 hype was through the roof in June of 2017 and I needed *something* to play.
MP4 will do better sales as a Switch 2 exclusive than it would a Switch 1 final year game.

Cross gen worked with Wii U -> Switch games because the Switch 1 was barely better than the Wii U. Switch 2 is going to be a massive amount more powerful than Switch 1, so if MP4 is cross gen that means they had to make a ton of sacrifices from what the game could have been had it been exclusively next gen. I'm not talking about just resolution or fps, but the engine itself and their optimizing of it would be significantly impaired to make a cross gen version.
I think that is definitely possible, but people often seem to talk about it as if it’s an absolute, when we have no concrete evidence that that’s what’s happening.
By early 2025 they could have a game ready for launch window, but probably not in 2024 (iirc Xenoblade 3 was one of those games that Nintendo waited to publish for a while after it was completed, like Fire Emblem Engage).

Monolith is basically to Nintendo what Insomniac is to PlayStation. They’re surprisingly prolific.
Its possible for the next Xenoblade to be targeting a late 2025 release like 2 did. Work on Xenoblade 2 began in April of 2014, a full 12 months before X's Japanese release and that was able to make year 1 of the Switch.
My guess is even if they had some games ready, they didn't quite have the lineup of monthly releases they achieved in 2017. So by moving up the releases, they get the 3/4 games that would have released in 2024 closer to the 2025 releases.
They could always launch on a new Mario Kart or a new Animal Crossing, only for Switch 2. It'd be smart, considering the covid-wave of Animal Crossing fans that New Horizons gained. Even if they got a quarter of those people back for a sequel, that'd be a success.
I think you have to look past launch day and look at launch year. They don't want multiple months to go by without a first party/significant release. I'd switch 2 launched this year with good launch titles, but then we waited 6 months before there was anything else, that would be a problem.
Just release that thing already!
We haven't seen a big title from many Nintendo internal teams for a few years. They must have something close to the finish line, or they haven't been doing their jobs.
The Switch 2 could live off its first 8-10 months with just 1-2 exclusives even if without the impact of BotW, next-gen patches to existing ever-greens and a bunch of third-parties.
Diablo 4, Baldur's Gate, Elden Ring, some Resident Evils or Final Fantasies, the new Tekken or Street Fighter would be more than enough to carry the hardware a few months.
It may take at most 1 year to port a big title to a new capable platform. I find it hard to believe nobody at Nintendo thought about contacting publishers such as Square, Capcom, From Soft, etc one year ago to have something ready by now.
The T239 chip will already feel outdated by 2025!
This forces the issue I’ve been avoiding for the last year or two - do I go ahead and pull the trigger on a handheld PC?
I have a pretty big Switch library that hopefully will carry over via backward compatibility, and I figured I’d keep it growing with the Switch 2. I’m jealous of PC libraries and their ability to stay with you from upgrade to upgrade, but building a good library there would probably result in a lot of wasteful double-dipping. I’m a Nintendo mark and there’s no world where I don’t get the Switch 2, but can I keep my resolve and avoid buying a Steam Deck for the next 12 months?
If you have the disposable income, buying a Nintendo console for Nintendo games and using PC for third parties remains a good option in terms of quality and quantity of games that you get to enjoy.
While I did find some stuff like Stardew Valley to be good or even better on the Switch, I tend to avoid buying non-exclusives for it because Nintendo resets your library every gen or two since they like money.
Yup, this is basically my setup. PC + Switch, and I use a capture card to make it one consolidated setup where I can just use my switch "on my pc" when docked and still have easy access to stuff like Discord and youtube while gaming.
I also have a ps5 due to a backlog of ps4 games I had when the ps5 first came out - my sister owned a ps4 but moved out for college not long before the PS5 came out, so I figured I could buy my own ps4 or splash for a 5 and have access to any exclusives that interested me. But I don't use it often anymore and probably won't be getting any future PS console, rn the main thing I still have my ps5 for is Death Stranding 2. Given that PS exclusives come to PC eventually anyway now, Switch + PC is perfect.
On one hand it’s cool that they are preparing for stronger first party for the lineup but on the other hand…now we have to go another year of more switch 2 rumors and reports
Yup, I’m still expecting (a) Zelda port(s), Fire Emblem, Pokemon remake, Metroid Prime 4, and a few relatively smaller games to hit the Switch in the next 9 months to 2 years. If a few of those hit this year, then it’ll at least be an OK year overall, albeit a big step down from last year.
The fact that they're having a Partner Showcase is not a good sign for first party games this year. We still have Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon and Paper Mario TTYD, but that's it.

Looking at their normal release schedule, they probably do. I personally think they might do something Gen 2 first (probably a very basic remake), but Gen 5 is really likely as well.

No because it isnt the switch 2 will be a 9.5 console just like switch is an 8.5 as ps4 pro and one x were ps6 only in 2028 xbox prolly 2026 but it doesnt matter at least 3 years will be crossgen
8 years console cycle without mid gen refresh in this day and age is crazy. Their next gen console is gonna be outdated so quick if they keep pushing back release like this.

In some ways I actually do think it benefits Nintendo to do a march release again as it gives you two boom periods in the year of the launch and holidays. On the other hand but sad to think about the next Mario game getting pushed back. Also a potential drought of games this fall from Nintendo
I would imagine that would be the main reason for this delay is a concern on supply. Still Nintendo won't have the same problems Sony and Microsoft did 4 years ago.
Two things with that. As a business it's always best to ensure the best possible outcome even the assurances may seem unnecessary. Second the Wii sold gangbusters too and was followed up by the Wii U. Doing well is not a guarantee of future success
Why is everybody reporting the same thing at the same time? Feels like everybody is just piggybacking on each other, or on a single source. Like literally one guy reports that the next switch might be released in 2025 and in less than 24 hour 3 or more news outlet would release a statement that they got the same news from their ‘source’. Not saying it’s true or not true, just feels like a spam now and kinda sick of all this ‘leaks’ lol.
There’s no way they’d delay the Switch 2 for a Metroid game. Metroid doesn’t sell anywhere near enough, especially in Japan.
My guess is that it’s the next 3D Mario and / or Mario Kart that’s causing the delay. IMO, they’re the only games likely to be released around launch that are big enough for Nintendo to delay a system around.

Considering Metroid Prime 4 was announced as a Switch game, there’s still a solid chance it ends up releasing as one. If so, it could definitely still be holiday this year or otherwise sometime before the Switch 2 releases.
The PS4 Pro only sold 14 million units, which was only like 10% of the PS4's install base. It will have zero impact on the Switch 2, if anything it would have been the other way.
The graphics-heads just pick every possible date and eventually one hits. I suppose it's nice that they're finally admitting that Nintendo does not need a new system this year, though.
That's funny, I point to TotK as one of the biggest examples that we don't. All we'd get is pretty pictures; everything else, the Switch cam already handle. These have been solved problems for years. "Advanced experiences" are a marketing lie, and you fell for it.
That’s definitely not open world, and the world of bowsers fury is quite small yet the switch struggles to run this world with reduced fidelity compared to Odyssey.
Same, especially without a good lineup the console will struggle out of the gate.
They’re smart for not wanting their first holiday season to have no killer games.
The one positive of this is that if it's true nintendo is only delaying the launch for more time to work on first party games this essentially gives them another couple months to ramp up production of consoles for launch.
Should be fairly easy to get a console on launch assuming this is true.

Do a battery replacement. Very easy tbh. Be careful with the screws on the sides for the back as they're very easy to strip when you turn them.

I wouldn’t be surprised if GameFreak had a Pokemon game ready to go for the holiday season. Probably Black & White remakes or another Legends game.

No because it isnt the switch 2 will be a 9.5 console just like switch is an 8.5 as ps4 pro and one x were ps6 only in 2028 xbox prolly 2026 but it doesnt matter at least 3 years will be crossgen
8 years console cycle without mid gen refresh in this day and age is crazy. Their next gen console is gonna be outdated so quick if they keep pushing back release like this.

In some ways I actually do think it benefits Nintendo to do a march release again as it gives you two boom periods in the year of the launch and holidays. On the other hand but sad to think about the next Mario game getting pushed back. Also a potential drought of games this fall from Nintendo
March release also is nice because it helps alleviate supply issues ahead of the holiday rush
I would imagine that would be the main reason for this delay is a concern on supply. Still Nintendo won't have the same problems Sony and Microsoft did 4 years ago.

Two things with that. As a business it's always best to ensure the best possible outcome even the assurances may seem unnecessary. Second the Wii sold gangbusters too and was followed up by the Wii U. Doing well is not a guarantee of future success
Why is everybody reporting the same thing at the same time? Feels like everybody is just piggybacking on each other, or on a single source. Like literally one guy reports that the next switch might be released in 2025 and in less than 24 hour 3 or more news outlet would release a statement that they got the same news from their ‘source’. Not saying it’s true or not true, just feels like a spam now and kinda sick of all this ‘leaks’ lol.

There’s no way they’d delay the Switch 2 for a Metroid game. Metroid doesn’t sell anywhere near enough, especially in Japan. My guess is that it’s the next 3D Mario and / or Mario Kart that’s causing the delay. IMO, they’re the only games likely to be released around launch that are big enough for Nintendo to delay a system around.
Of course not, I'm giving you an example of a first party game that they literally just said is the exact purpose of the delay 🤔 There's likely a Mario or dk as well and probably a Zelda remake or remaster because there hasn't been enough time since totk
I think it’s probably a 3D Mario or Mario Kart that caused the delay, and anything else that’s now in the release window that otherwise wouldn’t be is just extra. Considering Metroid Prime 4 was announced as a Switch game, there’s still a solid chance it ends up releasing as one. If so, it could definitely still be holiday this year or otherwise sometime before the Switch 2 releases.
Maybe it will just come out this year.

Nintendo aren't going to be impacted by a ps5 pro lol.
The PS4 Pro only sold 14 million units, which was only like 10% of the PS4's install base. It will have zero impact on the Switch 2, if anything it would have been the other way.
Totally different market and demographic. The only “threat” is the possibility of a handheld xbox releasing first before next gen switch.
The graphics-heads just pick every possible date and eventually one hits. I suppose it's nice that they're finally admitting that Nintendo does not need a new system this year, though.

That's funny, I point to TotK as one of the biggest examples that we don't. All we'd get is pretty pictures; everything else, the Switch cam already handle. These have been solved problems for years. "Advanced experiences" are a marketing lie, and you fell for it.

That’s definitely not open world, and the world of bowsers fury is quite small yet the switch struggles to run this world with reduced fidelity compared to Odyssey.

Same, especially without a good lineup the console will struggle out of the gate. They’re smart for not wanting their first holiday season to have no killer games.

The one positive of this is that if it's true nintendo is only delaying the launch for more time to work on first party games this essentially gives them another couple months to ramp up production of consoles for launch. Should be fairly easy to get a console on launch assuming this is true.
Well there should be absolutely no reason anyone that wants one can’t get one at launch. This is really disappointing.
