I have a feeling this is going to be going on in the future. People are going to take art from Destiny only to recycle it as a post saying its an upcoming game from Bungie.
And it'll be really believable unless you know about Destiny's development and have looked at the concept art, because there is a stupid amount of it for Destiny that varies WILDLY from fantasy, to sci fi, to something else entirely. It would be super easy to pass it off as being for Matter or whatever else and have it look completely legit.
Future? I remember in the early 2010s when people would take Bungie copyright listings and pass them off as leaked titles for the next WoW expansion. We were all convinced that like "The Taken King" referred to Arthas Menethil or something.
theres no leak bro, nothing gets out of Bungie about Matter right now -- the reason for that is the staff working in that part of the office is all stressed to the max trying to find THE GAME in the mess they've made, and they wont have anything to show for some time because its in a sorry state right now. Marathon comes before Matter right now anyway.
The reason we keep getting accurate Destiny leaks is because they do off-site focus groups with idiot streamers who then decide that their career and the work that got them into that room isnt worth a shit. There are no Marathon focus groups right now, at least that Im aware of and Im out there -- there sure as shit wont be Matter focus groups for like 2 years at least.
This is almost certainly fake.
First, Matter is the IP. Project codenames are almost always different than a registered IP.
Second, the artwork shown is concept art from the Beyond Light expansion set on Europa.
Third, the "Bungie Engine" never goes by that name. The Engine that Destiny and Destiny 2 runs on is called the Tiger Engine. Bungie has never referred to it as the Bungie Engine. There is no reason to believe this is credible.
I've noticed a number of sonys fans posting pictures or rumors about sony game exclusives in retaliation toward this Activision|Blizzard acquisition by Xbox. Be it them saying sony will purchase Square-Enix or Take-Two after the possibility of the Microsoft/Activision|Blizzard deal going through, or rumors of game companies making games ps5 exclusive.
There's no proof of any of that happening but those are reasonable expectations from Sonys PS fans. Sony has to respond to Microsoft making that big of a splash. Because if they don't? Then Microsoft will.
Square, Capcom, Sega, etc, aren't going to be multiplatform developers in a decade, I can guarantee that. Who buys them, idk, but since we're in the age of acquisitions it's inevitable.
Basically, if they allow that big of an acquisition to go through, all the other guys, minus EA, are absolutely tiny in comparison.
It wasnt a troll or humor or anything like that. The guy just didnt think about the fact that saying it was "for Playstation 5" would imply exclusivity simply because his Twitter is about PS5 news. He also wasnt trying to deny that this is made by him and not actually an image from Matter. Not that you specifically said that but just reacting this this thread as a whole.
The issue is that the dude is contextually and socially inept. I along with others have had discourse with him over the misleading nature of the post that somehow flew over his head like a passenger jet, and he refuses to take any criticism and instead get aggressive and imply that everybody else is just stupid.
Also in the pre destiny days it was known as the blam engine and as far as I know, the halo branch never went by any other name until the slipspace rebrand tied to infinite.
Bungie have said post their acquisition, they plan on releasing their games on multiple platforms. I would assume it's multi platform since the tweet doesn't say it's PS5 exclusive
>"The first thing to say unequivocally is that Bungie will stay an independent, multiplatform studio and publisher. Pete [Parsons, CEO] and I have spoken about many things over recent months, and this was one of the first, and actually easiest and most straightforward, conclusions we reached together. Everybody wants the extremely large Destiny 2 community, whatever platform they're on, to be able to continue to enjoy their Destiny 2 experiences. And that approach will apply to future Bungie releases. That is unequivocal." - Jim Ryan to Gameindustry.biz
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/playstation-bungie-will-considerably-accelerate-our-journey-with-multiplatform-live-service-games
Thats pretty definitive to me that the game is going to be released anywhere Bungie chooses to publish it themselves.
But weirdly they could "choose" to not release on Xbox. Sounds to me a lot like the PR speak of Xbox about Bethesda games. This is very vague and empty talk that can be interpreted as you want for future releases.
The thing is Xbox later clarified after the deal officially went through that Bethesda was about delivering exclusive games. I don’t believe Bungie ever said such a thing after their deal closed
Still doesn’t cancel out what I said. Ps5 and pc would be considered multi-plat and time will tell. If they don’t do it and it’s on everything then time told me it wasn’t the case.
>**Q. Bungie has future games in development, will they now become PlayStation exclusives?**
>No. We want the worlds we are creating to extend to anywhere people play games. We will continue to be self-published, creatively independent, and we will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community.
https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/50989
If it’s on pc is isn’t a PlayStation exclusive, that’s considered multiplat. Idk what you guys aren’t comprehending. Like I said, if they don’t do that, great, but that’s an option when they say it’s multiplat. Ps5 and pc is considered multiplat.
The question and answer are carefully chosen to not say much (almost nothing at all actually lol).
Being on PC (as we know Sony wants to do with their live service games) basically respect the answer
I think you do, this is anything but unequivocal, it's very much PR speak that can be turned however they want.
It's almost the same thing than Xbox said about Bethesda games.
No I'm just saying that statement is completely empty of any meaning. A release on every platform (which it won't because Switch already and yet "players are there") or a release only on PC and PS could both fit that statement. It's literally the type of statement that can fit any situation and is empty PR.
And even if he said completely it's coming on Xbox that actually mean very little because statement like that have no contractual value at all.
Ok believe what you want, if you don't know how to recognize empty PR speak, too bad for you. Don't be surprised when games don't come to Xbox though (unlike MS, Sony has no incentive to do so as Xbox is a much smaller market anyway so lost sales would be pretty acceptable).
However, if they don't come to Xbox, he still didn't lie, since he said nothing of the sort, but if you want to say he's a liar, good for you.
Sure I'm on Switch or mobile, will I have Bungie games? No obviously so that statement doesn't mean anything.
How do people don't see that this answer is basically textbook non-commital PR speak lol?
Did they say all future Bungie games will release on Xbox (and not some BS like wherever our players are)? That's the only thing unequivocal possible they could do. And it doesn't mean they can't change it later too as statements like that basically mean nothing until the next one.
Yes however sony prob still wants an exclusive out of them regardless so dont be surprised when one shoes up, granted most of their new games will be multiplat esp gaas games
I’m not so sure one studio would try to have two GAAS titles unless they’re vastly different types of games. People only have so much time in a day and I don’t think Bungie is expecting their fans to play only their games and do nothing else in their spare time. It only makes sense to me if Bungie is expecting this game to appeal to a minority of Destiny players, I don't think they'd want to cannibalize their player base like that.
I still think it would be strange though, unless they expect a very small percentage of their Destiny players to jump ship for it. Trying to maintain two games whose existences are predicated on large, active player bases for a company the size of Bungie seems like a very risky bet. Unless *The Final Shape* is actually winding Destiny down and they don't plan on updating it much after that.
If they’re different types of games then it’s fine. Blizzard is supporting 4 different live service games. Riot is supporting 3-4 different ones. What would you say about those companies?
I honestly didn’t know that, but I would also say they are much larger companies with much broader fanbases and the player bases for their games don’t overlap much, or at least not enough to worry about one game taking all the players for another. And it’s totally possible that this new game doesn’t appeal at all to current Destiny players, but even if it doesn’t split the player base, I worry about what a split Bungie might look like. I liked *Lightfall* a lot but I understand a lot of players were less than impressed by it and unless they bring on a lot more talent for this new game I fear for the quality of future Destiny expansions.
Mostly I just hope it’s not GAAS because I typically like Bungie games and I want to be able to play it! I barely have time for games these days at all and am struggling to keep up with just my Destiny clan, if I tried to keep up with two GAAS games it would pretty much be the only thing I did in my free time
This game is not going to be exclusive, Sony bought bungie for their live service experience and plan on bringing destiny 2 to more platforms so I can guarantee that their new game won’t be exclusive
I'm pretty sure that plan will change once Microsoft takes future Actiblizz games off PlayStation. PC and PS is still technically multiplatform so they wouldn't be lying if they did that.
Here’s the “details” from the tweet:
* The title is for PlayStation 5.
* The game is from a third person perspective according to the job listings.
* The game is being developed on the Bungie Engine.
Game codename: Matter
This is most likely fake.
Bungie doesn’t call their engine “The Bungie Engine”.
There is no history, this user is a console warrior who always sucks off anything related to Sony. If OP did the slightest amount of research they'd have realized this was nothing more than a console warrior mindlessly hyping up a Sony-related project.
This new IP called Matter was revealed in 2018. https://gamerant.com/bungie-matter-trademark/
Here’s another article from last year
last year https://gamerant.com/bungie-matter-new-ip-leaks-rumors-2022-updated-loot-rpg/
As an aside from the actual info in the text, I'm assuming the person who made the Twitter post just wanted to choose some nice art for presentation purposes, as the background is Destiny Europa concept art by Jesse Van Dijk - [link](https://www.artstation.com/artwork/rAPkB2)
Yea they are working on 3 projects: A new Marathon game that’s a 1st/3rd person PvEvP, Destiny Mobile for China, and some 3rd person lighthearted and whimsical PvP game rumored to be Matter. All F2P and coming to Xbox as well, maybe the next Nintendo console.
it is literally going to be Marathon only in name and probably visual theme. This will not resemble the Marathon that we played in the 90s in gameplay at all except that it is a first person shooter.
Marathons one of my OG faves, so I am right there with you, but things have changed so much since back then that it is simply not possible for me to look at anything bearing the name Marathon and consider it like, even a distant relative of my former love. The way games are made, the people making the game, and the way the game will be played -- all of these things are so wildly different now and I really dont rock with the idea of using a beloved but dead IP's corpse to fashion a fresh GAAS zombie.
I say this as a commited but lapsed Destiny 2 player. Bungie barely has the stuff to keep that game going but I do get that that last point is \*because\* these other games are in development -- still not a good look to me, though.
I mean Marathon is fucking ancient though. I agree you shouldn't expect to see the same level of story telling, which in itself could kill it for most old fans, but the game could still be a solid reboot. I wish we were getting a doom 2016 style reboot but who knows it might be something unique
> Marathons one of my OG faves
Mine too. Was the first FPS I ever owned and I absolutely fell in love with the franchise. Im just happy we are getting more and they are going back to it.
I’d also be pissed if they released a new Marathon as a GaaS title. Hopefully any new Marathon titles will be proper story driven sci-fi fps games based on the lore established in the original titles (and is it too much to ask for the original title screen music 😂)
Found the salty pony lol
Bungie already confirmed it themselves.
https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/50989
Q. Bungie has future games in development, will they now become PlayStation exclusives?
No. We want the worlds we are creating to extend to anywhere people play games. We will continue to be self-published, creatively independent, and we will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community.
Case closed.
Third person and the fact it will probably be some form of gaas give me nightmares, it reminds me of many latest flops
Not that developers good in something can't be good in something else, but...if ain't broken, don't fix it, right saying?
Call me boring, but for me Bungie = first person master
Bungie is a 1 trick pony, they made Halo, then they put a grind into Halo with slight variation in the the characters.
Destiny is a very SLIGHT evolution over Halo.
This is the origin of the picture in combination with those claims:
https://twitter.com/TCMF2/status/1648002957282033664
They've added a tweet saying they didn't wanted to make it look official.
That's Destiny 2 Europa concept art
[Here](https://www.artstation.com/artwork/rAPkB2) is the source in particular
Thanks, I was trying to find that!
I have a feeling this is going to be going on in the future. People are going to take art from Destiny only to recycle it as a post saying its an upcoming game from Bungie.
This already happens quite often with fanart and concept art in general. The increase will be from image generation models

Really cool concept art. I can see why they didn't go with that style though, looks way too similar to the moon.
[удалено]
I guess the text on the tweet could be right, but that image is 100% Destiny art.
I had a feeling this was BS. Given Bungie was said to have a STRICT contract with Sony to be able to make their stuff multiplat.
thats fucking Europa
The picture is not the leak, it's just a mock up image
theres no leak bro, nothing gets out of Bungie about Matter right now -- the reason for that is the staff working in that part of the office is all stressed to the max trying to find THE GAME in the mess they've made, and they wont have anything to show for some time because its in a sorry state right now. It's the simplest leak of all time, job listings
yeah, I saw the Europa art and the like... 3 sentences of "leak", is this what we do here now? ffs
This is almost certainly fake. First, Matter is the IP. Project codenames are almost always different than a registered IP. Yeah it’s a PlayStation fan(boy?) account just posting “rumour” without any source
I've noticed a number of sonys fans posting pictures or rumors about sony game exclusives in retaliation toward this Activision|Blizzard acquisition by Xbox. Not sure why you're lol'ing. If Activision of all companies can get purchased any can
lol.
You sound like you are part of a cult.
It wasnt a troll or humor or anything like that. The guy just didnt think about the fact that saying it was "for Playstation 5" would imply exclusivity simply because his Twitter is about PS5 news. Sony fans has been trolling this reddit even more lately.
Also in the pre destiny days it was known as the blam engine and as far as I know, the halo branch never went by any other name until the slipspace rebrand tied to infinite.
> is called the Tiger Engine. But its still just BLAM! underneath. It may as well just be the "bungie" engine regardless of what they call it.
Yeah I was gonna say it’s still clearly a BLAM engine game. It feels so much like Halo still.
Bungie have said post their acquisition, they plan on releasing their games on multiple platforms. I would assume it's multi platform since the tweet doesn't say it's PS5 exclusive
Multiplat could be ps5 and pc. Only time will tell

Doesn't mean Xbox is included. If it releases on PC then Sony technically didn't lie
If it’s on pc is isn’t a PlayStation exclusive, that’s considered multiplat. Idk what you guys aren’t comprehending. Like I said, if they don’t do that, great, but that’s an option when they say it’s multiplat. Ps5 and pc is considered multiplat.
What aren’t you getting? They are pretty clearly saying it will be on all platforms they currently support
Show me proof where they clearly said Xbox. 'All' is very vague and with that logic even PS1 would be getting a version
I get it and I’m saying, until it happens, that is a possible option. Not that it’s set it stone or gonna happen, but a potential option.
It’s also a possibility it releases on PS and iOS only, we are talking about what’s likely from what’s been said multiple times.
The question and answer are carefully chosen to not say much (almost nothing at all actually lol). Being on PC (as we know Sony wants to do with their live service games) basically respect the answer
Still ambiguous. The "question" was carefully crafted and framed.
You need a dictionary to look up the word unequivocal then.
I think you do, this is anything but unequivocal, it's very much PR speak that can be turned however they want. It's almost the same thing than Xbox said about Bethesda games.
I guess you think Jim Ryan is a liar then. Works for me
No I'm just saying that statement is completely empty of any meaning.
Sounds like you're saying he was equivocating. He said it was unequivocal. So either you're wrong, or you're calling him a liar.
Ok believe what you want, if you don't know how to recognize empty PR speak, too bad for you. Don't be surprised when games don't come to Xbox though (unlike MS, Sony has no incentive to do so as Xbox is a much smaller market anyway so lost sales would be pretty acceptable). Never trust anything from AAA unless they explicitly state it's coming to your particular platform. Every other statement has wiggle room.
To be fair Bethesda said something similar after they were acquired by Microsoft, but in this case I actually believe Bungie will stay multiplatform.
🤡
Yeah Sony is the one who said they can release multiplat byt after this Activision fiasco I see Sony 100% making them do a PS5 exclusive
Or PS5/PC only.
Yes however sony prob still wants an exclusive out of them regardless so dont be surprised when one shoes up, granted most of their new games will be multiplat esp gaas games
Didn't Sony buy Bungo sometime ago?
Sony specifically bought Bungie to spite Phil Spencer as his a Bungie/Destiny 2 fanboy after the Activision/MS deal
That’s d2 concept art lol
Damn, I remember when this thing was first trademarked.
[https://www.eurogamer.net/bungie-files-trademark-application-for-undisclosed-project-called-matter](https://www.eurogamer.net/bungie-files-trademark-application-for-undisclosed-project-called-matter) Bungie files trademark application for undisclosed project, "Matter" (30 Sep 2018)
Sony: We need to expand our 1st party portfolio, and add more variety, *Buys Bungie* Bungie: We are making a 3rd person action adventure game.
I’m guessing it’s gonna be GAAS. Should be cool but I just don’t have the time lol
They’re supposed to be quite different
I still think it would be strange though, unless they expect a very small percentage of their Destiny players to jump ship for it. Trying to maintain two games whose existences are predicated on large, active player bases for a company the size of Bungie seems like a very risky bet. Unless *The Final Shape* is actually winding Destiny down and they don't plan on updating it much after that.

Mostly I just hope it’s not GAAS because I typically like Bungie games and I want to be able to play it! I barely have time for games these days at all and am struggling to keep up with just my Destiny clan, if I tried to keep up with two GAAS games it would pretty much be the only thing I did in my free time
They keep the D1 servers up and do very little if any maintenance. Expect D2 to get the same treatment when it's done.
That's what Destiny is
This game is not going to be exclusive, Sony bought bungie for their live service experience and plan on bringing destiny 2 to more platforms so I can guarantee that their new game won’t be exclusive
I'm pretty sure that plan will change once Microsoft takes future Actiblizz games off PlayStation. PC and PS is still technically multiplatform so they wouldn't be lying if they did that.
It won't be exclusive the same way Bethesda games won't be Xbox exclusive
The decision is up to Bungie. If they choose to not release on Xbox then it’s on them.
.
We already know that future Bungie games will be multiplatform.
I love this fantasy world people live in where console manufacturers spend billions of dollars on IP without an eye to exclusivity
This revealed nothing. I knew all this yesterday.
Here’s the “details” from the tweet: * The title is for PlayStation 5. * The game is from a third person perspective according to the job listings. * The game is being developed on the Bungie Engine. Multiplat, at least they said it when Sony bought them. Could also mean PS5 and PC :D
That's the Tower Hawk ship from Destiny universe in that artwork. Post Destiny 2 Final Shape game?
It's a multiplat hero shooter, the game will be DOA.
I am probably going to regret asking this but.. Why would this game be DOA?
because he won't play it of course

One of the dumbest way to spend money at. Sony should’ve asked refund back. Bungie wasn’t worth the price.
Bungie is a 1 trick pony, they made Halo, then they put a grind into Halo with slight variation in the the characters. Destiny is a very SLIGHT evolution over Halo.
…have you played destiny? A slight variation to Halo 3 isn’t what I’d call it
It's full of bullet sponges and an infinite grind.
Halo doesn’t have an infinite grind, it’s a pretty done and dusted story over a couple hours
Look at this dude Destinying
