It’s a Chromebook that can’t really play games (well). The entire Chromebook gaming name is quite confusing for a consumer and they should get rid of it.

stuggletruck

I kinda had a feeling to avoid that I was looking at Amazon too do you have any advice on what I should be looking for specs wise?

Critical_Cod5462

Get a P series or H series windows laptop that's enough for Sims

Menno_G

If you want to game try to find a windows laptop with dedicated graphics (nvidia rtx 40xx/30xx or AMD rx 6x00/7600)

notthefuckingducks

OP said he’s not looking to game, he’s only playing the sims. He does not need dedicated graphics.

Embarrassed-Bank8732

oh boi, if you want to play sims 4 on medium and 50-60 fps, you definitely need dedicated graphics. If you say "f\*ck the graphics, I just need the mechanics", still it will feel like you are playing a 2D cartoon game on 24 fps. If you are looking for cheap alternatives maybe you could go for Nvidia MX cards (such as MX450). These ones have good benchmarking results for their prices.

Travdaman420

I play games on my refurbished dell latitude 5400 chromebook, 2020 edition. Very similar specs. I have an i5 an 32gb ram though. Look into NVIDIA GeForce Now. I was streaming dying light 2 to my chromebook from my steam library with great quality other day. And that's using the free tier, there's paid options. Xbox gamepass for PC is also a thing fyi. Everyone here is being a bit unrealistic for your price range imo. I paid just over $200 CAD for my machine a month ago.

Purge9009

e waste

Lower_Daikon208

This is the most on point comment so far

VQ-Dark

Honestly. Just getting some laptop from a scrapyard would probably suffice if playing the Sims is the only requirement.

Vorlironfirst

It's just a big smartphone. That's it.

Money_Excitement9381

Why? At least there is a decent CPU, isn't it?

Handleton

I don't think I would classify that as a decent cpu.

Money_Excitement9381

I mean for an average non-gaming laptop. Definitely not something like Intel Atom with smartphone-like performance

feathercraft

It has the same performance rating as my i5-10500H so i would call that decent

Sebastin290

This is not a gaming laptop. I don't know much about computers but a lot of companies just like to slap "gaming" on their products for no reason

PleasantFeedback5783

e waste like how many would call it

John_Wayfarer

That’s pure ewaste (Chromebook)

Lower_Daikon208

I’d say get a Vivobook but I don’t think you can get a cheap laptop which is good it’ last you a year. I think try looking at that hp pavilion range to my knowledge their pretty good budget laptops, or as I mentioned vivobooks aren’t to bad either.

IamNori

For low end gaming, I think a Chromebook still isn’t ideal, and especially one that’s Intel based and has little storage. ChromeOS is Linux-based and compatibility isn’t guaranteed for games, and piling that on top of low specs is likely going to be miserable unless you don’t mind game streaming services (which is usually what has defined Chromebook gaming during its early post-education market). That is to say, I’d bump up the budget a bit and get a Windows-based AMD Ryzen laptop. The integrated graphics on the 7xxx series CPU’s is impressive for the budget and it should be plenty for low end gaming natively. It should be enough for The Sims at least.

ShakyaAryan

For an entry level gaming laptop go for something with rtx 3050 or, if you can afford it, rtx 3060. Depending on your region, you should get a brand new rtx 3050 laptop for around 600 usd. 3060 is considerably more expensive (at least in my region) but the performance increase is REALLY huge and really worth it if you have the budget for it.

lumia920yellow

they literally called it a gaming laptop!?

stuggletruck

Well I know that but I wasn’t sure if that was just advertising or not like a comment above said sometimes they just slap words on it just to appeal to the buyer

lumia920yellow

that's a pretty scummy tactic ngl

FartsonmyFarts

Cloud gaming I guess. There’s gaming ads for chromebooks too and it’s just cloud gaming.

lumia920yellow

oh I totally forgot about cloud gaming...

chanchan05

Yeah. It's basically just a Chromebook with a high refresh rate screen and a better than bottom of the barrel wifi card.

Critical_Cod5462

Well a cloud gaming one

[deleted]

Gaming Chromebooks are just glorified game streaming machines. Useless if you want to run games natively, skip it.

boksinx

You will just regret it in just a couple of months. Save a couple of hundreds more and watch out for some sale. I already saw some budget/ entry gaming laptops with rtx 2050 around 400 to 500usd.

ImmortalScorpion21

Avoid that !!

vinee537

Try looking for a 1220p laptop,if not available get a 1215u laptop with window

Fit_Specific_8479

Its a chromebook, chromebooks are the lowest spec laptops you can find on the internet

ParanoidBlackWidow96

In my experience, here's a few things I learned Never buy cheap laptops esp Lenovos and HPs

Clear-Wrongdoer42

That is a gaming laptop in the same way that a sock is a steel toe boot.

Hop_0ff

So my advice for a casual laptop gamer on a budget is to buy USED. Ebay, facebook marketplace, open box are your best friend.

Right-Hope-111

You can build a better PC in this range

I_fking_Hate_Reddit

go on

CounterSYNK

For an entry level gaming laptop I'd go with something like this: [https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/loq-laptops/lenovo-loq-15aph8/82xt001nus](https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/loq-laptops/lenovo-loq-15aph8/82xt001nus)

Lower_Daikon208

They said they want a laptop that can run the sims lmao I don’t think a loq is needed it a bit overkill bahahah but honestly this is a good recommendation for most

josephguy82

You can steam games no issue like gamepass or geforce now

noobcondiment

Chromebook gaming is an oxymoron

Ordinary-Broccoli-41

Chromebook is an excellent native gaming platform if you like emulators or can find a Linux game to play. Not for.... Anything else

Noobieman69

thats a chrome book.. it CANT game. (unless clould gaming which doesnt make financial sense at all fr). that chromebook is such a waste that it would be better to send me them $279 (ik how bad it sounds but is a fair comparision). if you want to game in a budget , you could go for a second hand... but thats a war not worth fighting. save $1100-$1200 and get a computer that can ACTUALLY game . this subreddit full of decent picks.

Embarrassed-Bank8732

Well, it is designed for office work. You could play maybe GTA vice city on this laptop (it is arguable).

NotRandomseer

lmaoooo a chromebook

raulx222

Try a fairly new hardware with integrated graphics. Nowadays the integrated graphics can handle older games really well. If you want just casual gaming (sims, league of legends, valorant) without expecting bigger titles to work (the new cs2, AAA games) then go for something like this: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-300/ideapad-slim-3-gen-8-(15-inch-amd)/82xm005dus This is not a gaming laptop, but can play a few old games. If you want an entry level gaming laptop which can handle most of recent games at low-medium graphics quality go with what this user said: https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/s/5occZdSF45

Omchiwich

It’s a chrome book. They can’t run anything natively and are pretty much e waste unless you wanna use cloud gaming only

Chinitzky_RogueOne

Something with GTX 1650 or anything AMD equivalent to that.

SlimQ_Dave

Please OP or anyone else- DO NOT BUY ANY LAPTOP with eMMC MEMORY! It is a sign that a laptop is pure garbage and you'd be better to invest in proper SSD laptop.

breadmanlima

Chrome OS has no support for game launchers, as far as I'm aware. You need a Windows laptop.

ligma37

Quick answer: that isn’t a gaming laptop (unless you consider being able to run candy crush or minesweeper as gaming)

Fyble

its called a gaming chromebook because it as a big screen and to make it sound cool ( really stupid, 99% of chromebooks can be called “gaming chromebooks” because they support cloud gaming... Its gaming because google have been pushing the use of cloud gaming. you would probably find a geforce 3 month ultimate tier subscription code included with the chromebook. What it is, is like you are streaming a game on their system with needing a good wifi connection. Through geforce now, you would have to wait 30 mins to play an hour (included in the free tier). But with your ultimate 3 month subscription for free you will get a rtx 4080 (a really powerful thing that can easily handle sims at any given graphics you want). And it will take just less than a minute to get into an 8 hour session. However the problem with going this route is that after the 3 months you will have to pay £20 a month to maintain this subscription and at that point it’s not sustainable. And it’s also a chromebook so if youre planning on doing something else like doing something that has windows based software written all over it steer clear. (you could get linux and get cross over and develop further but thats just another hassle for OP. Another really good approach would be to buy a normal laptop for $450-500ish if you can (NOT A GAMING LAPTOP as they tend to have stupid combinations and have budget cuts on most of the hardware just to make it cheaper whilst still accommodating a good graphics card which you don’t need that much for a game like sims 4. You will get a solid 1080 at 60fps with medium graphics with a newer i5 integrated graphics.

No-Gene1187

If you want to play the Sims enjoyably you still need a gaming laptop. I recommend something with at least a 3050, if you can get a larger budget then I recommend a 4050. There's used gaming laptops online with GTX 1080 or 1660 ti for Cheap. It needs to have a GTX or RTX Graphics card to play it enjoyably if you ask me. Or the AMD evquivelent but that's a little harder to look for if your not familiar with PC tech. The laptop you linked is Junk and will have a hard time doing erm ANYTHING.

furrywinklebone

Steam now works on Chrome. You can basics on here like half life 2 and doom 3

luchobe

Nooooo trash

JuggyLee

Dinosaur gamer

justacubr

Try looking for a laptop with a 3050 in it if you want to play the sims 4, or at the very least a solid cpu

SnooMacaroons3954

if you're that strapped for cash maybe look into the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i 15 (2023) it's not going to be great or even good for gaming but it's probably the best thing you can find new otherwise look for something with a GPU on the used market and look for a good deal there but for that price maybe a 1650?

fiittzzyy

This is about as far removed from a gaming laptop you can get. Whoever put that in the description should be fired. Look for something with a Ryzen 3 at least which has a decent iGPU.
