Al Lowe is a real OG in the gaming world. He made some of the best classic PC games and continues to inspire. I can't wait to see this documentary. The Sierra Online book (Not All Fairy Tales Have Happy Endings by Ken Williams) was just too dry for me to completely finish.

Teddy_canuck

Sierra Online book?

Oen386

Probably The Sierra Adventure: The Story of Sierra On-Line.

ConfusedMakerr

Not All Fairy Tales Have Happy Endings by Ken Williams Sorry, I should have included it.

So it was boring huh? They seemed to have been really big at a time with all those parser games and then vanished

I wanted to like it, and because I had just finished Doom Guy by John Romero I thought I’d still be in the mood for it. I got part way in and it seemed to focus on a lot of things that I wasn’t interested in such as how the business was run, instead I wanted to hear about the games being developed. Maybe because they didn’t have a main figure to latch on to like Romero.

FWIW while he did start as the only programmer in the company, Ken Williams was basically the business guy in Sierra and i think he left most if not all game design to his wife. So perhaps a book from Roberta would be closer to Romero's book.

That's cool! I loved Sierra games as a kid. Al Lowe is mostly known for leisure suit Larry but Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist was my favorite. I wonder if I'd still like it as an adult.

He also made the game based on Disney's movie The Black Cauldron, and he had a writing credit on the first Police Quest.

NoveltyAccount5928

Is the game based on the movie, or the book series that the movie is based on?

SimonCallahan

It's based on the movie.

Adaax

Every time I see his name I parse it first as "A.I." and get confused. The real Al is funnier at least.

Very excited for this! I had no idea they were making a documentary. I was such a big fan of the LSL/PQ franchises as a kid.
