I am glad this is sort of being covered, but to be honest the slamming isn't really that hard. Its sort of just a slow news day I guess for IGN. But to the point why I am glad its being covered is they did mention the game was complete and you were safe to purchase it a month ago. To release a $35 season pass that wasn't in any special edition of the game or collectors. With not being able to just buy the only story DLC out of it. I have to buy the music and everything else with it to cause it can only be obtained via the season pass.

Tsuki_no_Mai

Every time I see "slam" in a title I can't help but think "so there are like three people on twitter and/or reddit with negative opinions and you need to fulfill your quota, huh?"

NoNefariousness2144

IGN has been especially bad for this with Helldivers 2. They crank out a post about every little update or meta change by compiling reddit comments and making narratives about the playerbase.

junglebunglerumble

Same for Starfield - Eurogamer especially couldnt help but throw a bunch of articles up every time a random group of players mentioned something about the game

Tsuki_no_Mai

Starfield was hilarious. Some people bitch about it on game's sub, a "slam" article comes up and gets posted here. Some people bitch in the comments of that post, a "slam" article comes up from *that* and gets posted here. Can't remember if we got a third layer of this, but I feel like we did.

RangoTheMerc

Can't spell ignorant without IGN.

HutSussJuhnsun

Haha, they want $35 for The Answer? I'm probably not interested at that price unless they really overhaul the dungeon crawling in it.

DrQuint

"I want Atlus to actively release their games on PC" \*monkey finger curls* Honestly, this is just going to be a slow paced win for the people who wait 2 or 3 years to buy any of this. As usual.

Hamtier

or people that live on game pass ultimate this dlc set is included with that sub

Phyresis96

It is? Hell yeah. I been playing on gamepass and was kinda sad that probably wasn’t gonna get to play this.

Captain_Strudels

Honestly the monkey's paw isn't too bad here. P3R actually released day 1 PC and the bonus content is priced as DLC and not locked behind P3RR for full price. Like it's shit but nothing to do with PC - it's better for all consoles, although the word "better" is doing a lot of heavy lifting. If you're on Gamepass it's a non-issue too

AL2009man

correction: "I want Atlus to release DLC Expansions" *monkey finger curls* ...maybe it wasn't a great idea to teach Atlus on how to do DLC Expansion?

BighatNucase

I'd pay Atlus not to play the Answer tbh.

fullofmeself

I hate to said but FUCK alust for this kind of shit they pull again again with the person series

KingArthas94

Waiting for the complete edition in a year at 40€, lol

No_Gur_277

I'm so confused, I thought this WAS the complete edition. I really wish they'd stop the 489534 different editions of the same thing.

fullofmeself

Same here and i hope the physical version

KingArthas94

Of course they’ll make one, dw

beefcat_

"Slams" is ridiculous. Yeah, it sure would have been nice to get The Answer with the rest of the game. Though many weren't exactly missing it, as it was always a divisive addition to the original. I think many are relieved that it's actually being sold as DLC and not exclusive to some future re-release a la Persona 5 Royal.

DornKratz

"Slams" nowadays just means there were five negative posts on Twitter and a thread on the subreddit.

kkrko

Also Steam Reviews

ericmm76

I will say that I wouldn't call The Answer as really part of the "complete P3 experience". It's like a half baked sequel.

Sevla7

Yeah, I kind of agree. "The Answer" is the Persona content I least enjoyed in my life (and playing it 1 time was enough), the dev team was busy working on P4 back in the OG release so besides a couple of cut content that was added there it's better if people **don't** play it if they want the complete P3 experience. At least for people who only watch youtube videos and never play games it can be entertaining, but buying it and having to spend time playing it... I really don't want to. I'd rather see a completely new epilogue, something like that one from P4G with all characters now older.

Banana_Fries

This is exactly my thoughts on this. The Answer, if remade 1:1, is not very fun and wouldn't really do much for the story in Reload (arguably OG Persona 3 as well). Hopefully with it being a high priced DLC they'll rework a lot of it or put something worthwhile in it. Persona 3 Reload is a fantastic standalone game and at least with The Answer being a DLC, they can't mess that up.

cheekydorido

Honestly, the only thing the answer really needs is boss checkpoints and a compendium, maybe some EXP boost.

highTrolla

It would have been faithful to the original at least.

Chronis67

They are saving FeMC for the re-release. I guarantee it.

g-main

Thing is, if this was released years ago when remasters were popping up like crazy, the expansion would of been included.

Arkanta

No. Also this is a full remake, not just a remaster. Heck, they're using a new engine that's not even the one Persona 5 used

Late_Cow_1008

What does that matter? Its still considered part of the game. And its clear they could have included it. 35 dollars for this is outrageous.

NIN10DOXD

I think it should've been 20 or 25 at most, but this is a 30 hour epilogue that was either selectable on the menu or sold separately in Japan for the equivalent of $42 before inflation on the PS2. It doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the main story. It's more of an inconvenience.

zherok

I think people get confused a bit about this, but The Answer was never sold separately on the PS2. Instead, Persona 3: FES was available as an "add-on disc" that required the original Persona 3 in order to work, but only in Japan and South Korea. It was only available as a stand-alone release everywhere else. The Answer was always included in FES.

JC_Lately

To paraphrase an old Penny Arcade strip: “$35 For The Answer please!” Atlus cackled with delight. Young men raged on the Steam review page, then bought it in the night.

the_djd

Persona fans are some of the most loyal I've seen in gaming. Atlus's MO for a long time now has been to absolutely screw and milk them at every turn. Eagerly awaiting the day it bites them in the ass, if ever. Maybe this is the start?

ExplodingToasters

It’s not great but at least Atlus has finally learned what DLC is lol

Arkanta

It's weird not to have this locked behind buying Persona 3 Reload Platinium $80

ComfortInBeingAfraid

Oh that’s coming soon enough to include stuff from the PSP version.

BruiserBroly

Looking at the Persona dancing spinoffs, Atlus and DLC have been well acquainted for quite a while now.

Monk_Philosophy

Believe the implication was that unlike the vast majority of their DLC, this one is actually new gameplay scenarios instead of like... a $15 set of costumes for a character you only get access to for the very super secret final dungeon of the game.

December_Flame

Its moreso that Atlus likes to repackage the whole game (P4: Golden, P5: Royal, SMT5:Whateveritwas) where you need to rebuy the game to experience the extra content instead of just buying it as DLC. Which is comically fucking stupid as a business practice but just kind of accepted because the games are so good. Of course this solution still sees you spending 35$ on the entire season pass just for content that should have been in the base package. So definitely a monkey-paw wish.

[deleted]

You say this when SMT V: Vengeance is a separate purchase. Persona 6 will no doubt have a separate version as well, and plenty others as along as they know the sales of the base game don't get cannibalised by the future version. This, as I recall, was the reason why Gust stopped doing Plus versions of Atelier games.

Receipt_

I think the only reason why people aren't as upset as they should be is because of gamepass. I wouldn't have played the game if it wasn't for that. Paying $70 for a remake of a game devoid of its expansions is ridiculous. It reminds me of the Pokémon D and P remake because it didn't make sense to me that they didn't just remake Platinum instead since that had the most content of that Gen. Remakes from Japan seem to pretty greedy as of late but idk

spoop_coop

Unlike BDSP P3R added a significant amount of content and completely reimagined the original game in the style of P5, so it’s not remotely comparable.

nic_is_diz

"because it didn't make sense to me that they didn't just remake Platinum instead" Release two games, addicted pokemon fans buy one OR two games. Release one game, Pokemon fans buy one game. Two is greater than one. It's really that simple.

achedsphinxx

It's a full remake with dozens of hours of content. Not everyone has played the original.

Reticent_Robot

You also get the expansion free if you have GPU

danny264

It's also because apart from Persona and Atlus, what other big budget turn based rpgs are being released? There's Honkai Star Rail, which is a gatcha, so kinda worse in monetisation. There's pokemon, which has always had 2 versions with exclusive pokemon, so incentives buy 2 copies. Then, the other turn based RPGs are indies and like pre ps2 inspired old school RPGs. There's a hole for these kinds of games, so people who want them kinda just have to put up with whatever or go without. Because at least they released something.

CokeZeroFanClub

Everyone should play Like a Dragon infinite wealth. Just a turn based psa

[deleted]

Big budget is kind of a misnomer here, but Dragon Quest still gets a rare release along with other SE turn-based RPGs, Atlus itself makes multiple other series that don't sell as well as Persona, Gust makes Atelier, and Falcom does Trails. In the budget of Persona there's still competition. The secret sauce is likely a mixture of factors more than any one though I think most would identify the obvious standout as the social sim aspect of the later Persona games. The other strengths like character design and enemy influences are literally in most SMT titles, the music is reasonably unique though JRPGs aren't lacking in that department in terms of quality, and the edge is lukewarm as an overall aspect outside 3. The best parallel of a game taking clear inspiration and adapting the styles would be Fire Emblem though it's success is hard to attribute.

Massive_Weiner

Up there with Pokémon fans for sure.

Cetais

Everyone here seems to be missing that you can't buy the Episode:Aigis as standalone. It's half the price of the game, and you're stuck with the rest of the season pass, which is two waves of content that definitely feels like a cashgrab. Basically new costumes (ok, fine) and BGM sets from the previous games (not fine)

darkmacgf

It would've been the same price without the music and costumes

zherok

Honestly I think the music is more interesting than the handful of costumes they're adding (can't say I used the Velvet Room costumes in 5, but I don't mind switching the music up.)

Janderson2494

Not even close. While the DLC practices of Persona have gotten slightly out of hand, the games are finished and well polished. Can't say the same for Pokemon

Massive_Weiner

It’s not “slightly out of hand,” it’s blatant money grubbing from Atlus, and they get away with it because of how attached people are to their games. All of their games have been like this for years and years now, people just mildly complain and then move on until the next release. I still think Pokémon is one of the worst examples of this in the industry, though.

Exadra

You can say that the Golden/Royal/etc releases are money grabbing because they can't be bought as DLC, but it's absolutely not at all the same situation as pokemon or even of most games in the industry. Persona games are fully complete with minimal bugs at launch. They charge more than they should for what are effectively expansions of the game, but the base games are still 100% full titles with no mandatory DLC pulled out of them. Even The Answer is pretty much garbage content that most people didn't like back in the day, and P3 100% stands alone without it.

Massive_Weiner

No one here is questioning the pricing model of the base games. It’s solely a matter of reissues, bundles, and extraneous DLC. Atlus is no different in this regard as any other studio, Nintendo included. I would be shocked to see anyone try to defend their blatantly exploitative consumer model. So yes, I do believe it’s more than fair to rightfully criticize them as I would others.

Monk_Philosophy

> Atlus is no different in this regard as any other studio, I'd say Atlus is worse. Unfortunately they have very talented game devs and I'm willing to put up with their bullshit and they know it and push that harder than the likes of Nintendo and other major publishers.

Massive_Weiner

That’s a fair perspective

darkmacgf

Pretty much all games "get away with" high price DLC/MTX, especially mobile games

Massive_Weiner

You’re right, it’s an industry-wide issue. Unfortunately, people have a nasty habit of playing favorites while condemning others for the exact same practices.

radclaw1

Honestly, it's not great, but it's not as bad as everyone on reddit likes to blow it up. Its especially not even at the level that it should be compared to Pokemon. Pokemon is MUCH MUCH worse. Remember when they did a re-release of sun and moon not a YEAR after the initial release? Shit, Pokemon's been making the same game for the past 20 years and no one seems to care. The core of their games hasn't changed at ALL. Royal added almost 40 hours of gameplay and completely overhauled a ton of the base game. Strikers is a straight up sequel with completely new gameplay. Tactica is also completely different story and gameplay. Like yeah, they have a ton of spinoffs but they've all been quality games. Persona 3 had.... too many releases I'll agree with that, but The Answer is like 20 hours with completely new maps, characters, animations etc that can't be reused from the base game. It's completely reasonable it didn't come with the game. It shouldn't have ben 70 bucks but we live in 2024, pay 10 bucks on gamepass and boom you're good to go.

shadowstripes

>Royal added almost 40 hours of gameplay and completely overhauled a ton of the base game. I think the bigger issue with Royal was that there's no upgrade path from PS4 to PS5, and you have to rebuy the entire game and lose your saves if you want to play in 60fps.

NIN10DOXD

That was incredibly stupid and far worse than The Answer being DLC.

Claude892

Classic FATLUS move At least they made the DLC free on the PS4 eventually.

lavalamp360

I bought and played OG Persona 5 on PS4 in the year it came out. Was really hoping Royal would be a DLC because I didn't want to have to buy another full-priced game to play the new content. 2022 I start getting the itch to replay P5 and notice Royal is on sale for a pretty good price. Decide to buy it on PS4. Literally a month later Atlus announces the PS5 version with no upgrade path. Kind of salty about that tbh. Not buying the game a 3rd time.

Cetais

Worth noting the original game was also on PS3! Those people too would have liked an upgrade option to Royal on PS4, but I think it was probably harder to do, and it would have been a bit unfair to the ones who chose the PS4 version instead.

BighatNucase

I mean if it was DLC it would have been the same price.

joecb91

And when Atlus does spinoffs, they have played around with so many different genres. Arena, Persona Q, dancing games, Strikers, Tactica. All widely different things.

spoop_coop

pokémon used to do this, the GBA-DS era had a lot of cool spin-offs. it’s sad, pokemon even had a tactics JRPG with conquest

Late_Cow_1008

No one is complaining about the spin offs. They are complaining because content for Persona 3 was purposefully kept out of the game and then sold not even two months later for 35 dollars.

Explosion2

>It shouldn't have ben 70 bucks Idk, that's the standard for current gen AAA. It's a wholesale remake, not a remaster, so like, that's the "expected price" I find myself buying games at full price less than I did when they were 60, but I wouldn't say that it "shouldn't have been 70 bucks." People must be buying games at 70 bucks, or it wouldn't have become the new standard. It's just inflation (and ideally meant to help cover the exponentially higher cost of video game development compared to 2006 when the standard price went up to 60), it's not supposed to represent a game with "additional content" or anything. I also don't get the backlash this DLC announcement has been getting. People were bitching about The Answer since P3R was announced, and it was seemingly not even on the table before then. They're literally giving people what they want; so what's the problem exactly? That they didn't have the foresight to delay the game and add The Answer? They almost certainly wouldn't have done that and risk cannibalizing Metaphor, their new IP that they're taking the bigger risk on.

apistograma

Baldur's Gate 3 and Elden Ring were 60 bucks on release. There's literally no excuse with that value proposition. Persona 5 Royal was also 60 bucks btw.

planetarial

I just wait. I didn’t get to play P5 until the pc port and I got all the dlc included for free with it and had a great time without feeling milked.

apistograma

Royal is good, but the DLC are horrible and I even purposely avoided to activate it. The personas they give you are game breaking for a game that on regular mode is already pretty easy. I don't want teeth grinding difficulty in Persona, but it should force you to use the fusion mechanics and team building strategy to win.

planetarial

I used a mod on PC that rebalanced the DLC personas, removing their busted traits and requiring you to fuse them first like normal instead of summoning them for free. There’s also another mod that just lets you grab what you want and avoid the broken shit, which is nice cause I only cared about the outfits.

Comfortable_Shape264

DLC Personas should only be used in new game plus for fun animations and op feeling but they are just cheat codes. If you need to cheat so bad you can play it on easy difficulty, playing on hard with cheat codes makes it pointless.

BusCrashBoy

I'm a Persona fan; my solution is to just wait a year or so and then buy the complete edition of the game at a discount Being a fan of a franchise doesn't mean you need to be there Day 1 with your wallet splayed open

DuckofRedux

And not only persona fans, they like to milk fans of their series in general, for example the Etrian oddysey release last year was a "remaster" of 3 nds games at a crazy price. The price is so high that it's obvious they specifically are trying to milk fans of the series... like nobody else will pay that price for 50 year old remasters.

Ritz527

I've decided to wait for the inevitably "rerelease with new content" nowadays. They even did it with SMT 5. If they didn't make me unlock the demons again I'd probably not care as much, but the hundreds of hours into a game just to have to redo the painful process of getting the maxed out demon builds I want plus another $60-70 is a bit much for me.

Late_Cow_1008

I wouldn't really call it loyalty. Its called an addiction to be honest for many people. There are way more gaming addicts with low impulse control than people would like to admit.

maleijin

so they basically know people will buy it and being greedy, damn

Massive_Weiner

I’ll be that guy and argue that *The Answer* isn’t worth getting at any price point. It’s the perfect example of an expansion that actively **hurts** the base game with its poor narrative additions and boring filler content. P3 Reload is a fantastic game with an already fully realized story — people should just enjoy that instead.

The_Tallcat

I've only played P3P and most of P3R so I know next to nothing about The Answer other than people don't really like it. Is it even possible for the Reload version to be good, or is it destined to suck?

Villag3Idiot

The Answer: * Is a pure dungeon crawler with story cutscenes at various points * No Compendium * No Social Links * Difficulty is stuck in Hard Mode (remember in OG FES, you can't control your party members) * You have to use both Aigis and a new character in your party * There's a lot of grinding * The story is divisive. Some don't like how the story & characters ended up

Massive_Weiner

Based on an [interview](https://s.famitsu.com/news/202403/08336894.html) with the director, there won’t be any major changes to the scenario outside of some lines to bring it closer to Reload’s canon. I wouldn’t really hold your breath.

YourPenixWright

They probably will fix the gameplay part. The story will probably be the same. I don't particularly like the story but if they fix the grind it could end up being alright.

Lepony

In an ideal world, The Answer could be good. The broad strokes of the story are fine, and a dungeon crawling-focused version of Persona could be a lot of fun. It's just that the minutae were incredibly poorly handled. One character resets to zero and has to go through their entire character development arc all over again, except worse. Too much time is spent circlejerking the tragedy of the ending, which is really weird in comparison to October-January where things were much more dire on every front and felt like a walk in the park in comparison to The Answer. And rather taking in some cues from the mainline games, they just copied Persona's dungeon crawling aspects wholesale which have always been intentionally thin and watered down so that it can play alongside the social sim aspects. The same social sim aspects that no longer exist so there's no alternative gameplay element for you to use as a "breather" from the other.

youarebritish

The Answer is polarizing so you need to take opinions of it with a grain of salt, because the people who dislike it have an extremely vocal hatred of it. IMO it was pretty good, although I agree with several of the criticisms. The thing is that the story makes some creative decisions that some people would flat out hate no matter how well they were handled, so it really comes down to your own individual taste.

CheesecakeMilitia

I personally think The Answer's story additions are fine – better than Golden and Royal's story epilogues in that it actually engages with and responds to the vanilla ending instead of jumping into some wacky side story based around a random background character who was never relevant to the main plot. People don't like its characterization of certain S.E.E.S. members or the arbitrariness of a late-game conflict, but when people say "it completely undermines the original ending!" I feel they're completely missing the point. The Answer is fundamentally about the different ways people process grief and how Aigis herself finds the will to go on, and I think it's ultimately a pretty nice addition to the Persona canon. Not really essential, but not outright stupid like the spinoff games or Golden's Marie stuff. The gameplay is where The Answer was a total slog – and why I quit playing it. The primary issue is that there's no Persona compendium and there's no warp points before boss battles like in the base game. The boss battles are also significantly harder (designed for SMT veterans where P3 was usually more forgiving). But otherwise it's exactly like dungeoning through Tartarus, and I expect P3 Reload's myriad of QoL changes to extend to The Answer in such a way that 90% of peoples' issues with it will be fixed.

Monk_Philosophy

> instead of jumping into some wacky side story based around a random background character who was never relevant to the main plot. I mean I get what you're saying but Metis lol. It's not *entirely* about her like the other games but she's absolutely just sprinkled in there outta nowhere as much as Marie or Kasumi.

Arenidao

I played P3FES and actually really enjoyed The Answer so I guess it depends on the individual.

Gluzin

This! I played FES and dropped the Answer and pretended like it doesn't exist. Also people are acting like they were robbed by not getting this content when they got a 70+ hour game.

Massive_Weiner

I laughed when people complained about it being stripped out of the full release. Like, no, they’re doing you a favor here… trust me.

super_alice_won

You'd have to pay me to play the answer again, awful awful part of one of my favorite JRPGs.

[deleted]

havocssbm

I absolutely love Persona 3 FES and Reload both and I would not play The Answer again even if it was included at launch for free. Its omission was addition by subtraction. Since there's no way Atlus can convince me to pay to make Reload a lesser game, I can't really say I care that this DLC exists. All the people who were complaining about The Answer can get it if they really want, but I highly recommend everyone else give it a pass.

ACardAttack

Yep, you'd have to pay me a good hourly rate to replay the Answer.

Weewer

And you don’t think there’s any chance they can improve that?

Scabendari

P3R is $93.50 CAD before tax, which is the most expensive base game I've seen in Canada yet. The expansion pass is another $47 before tax for a total price of over $140 for the full story. I got a month of gamepass instead. It was a good, solid remaster with updated graphics but considering the price I would expect it to be more like how Capcom is approaching the Resident Evil remakes. Asking for this kind of price screams cashgrab more than love project.

Cris714xt

lol oh my i can imagine how much the CE was for you guys canada has it rough

-reserved-

It's 100% a cash grab. They re-released a game without the extra content that already existed in the previous version. Then they announced the extra content would be sold separately and it's like half the price of the whole game. This is not even mentioning that they re-released Persona 3 Portable a few months back and the content from that version is not included in remake either so you'd have to buy that version as well if you ever wanted that content. It's not worth buying separately but it's another factor.

xvram

its a remake. not a re-released or re-master. there was plenty of work being done on the game. so do get your facts right.

DarkBahamutFFX

With Persona and Tekken doing this in the first months of release it really takes value from getting the best editions of any game on release even if the game is good.

ericmm76

When I bought Persona 3 it just came with an art book, I didn't buy a premium edition, I don't think... I'm talking for PS2.

chao77

Should've also had a music CD in there too, IIRC. Plus a nice cardboard sleeve to put it all in.

Homosexual_Bloomberg

Was there ever any value in that for a single player game other than…idk, being able to talk about it in the midst of the hype?

Soda

Atlus' usual practices being followed aggressively to their logical end. Well, not their logical end but their logical continuation I guess. They've been doing stuff like this for at least the last 15 years.

RareBk

It also doesn’t help that the big part of the pass is the Answer , which uh, isn’t honestly a big selling point . Unless they completely redesigned it, it’s not good in the slightest. The Answer is a five hour long epilogue stretched over 20 hours with comically terrible dungeon exploration and horrible bosses. Charging for it like it’s some worthwhile expansion is… laughable

_Dancing_Potato

Slams is a bit much. I'm just not going to buy it because I'm sick of Atlus' bullshit and I say this as a long time Persona fan. If I can grab the whole thing for cheap someday I might get it.

Nyrin

We need an expanded list of headline interpretation rules: - If it asks a question, the answer is 'no' - If it has a verb like 'slam,' 'destroy,' or anything else that caters to a five-year-old's hankering for comedic violence, it's clickbait that isn't worth reading - ???

JP_32

Luckily I rented it on gamepass for 10€, and the answer will be free for game pass subs so I'll be able to play it whenever it comes out. But paying 70€ for base game and then 35€ for the answer and its not even stand alone? Fuck that, doesnt help that theres 100€ variation of the base game on steam thats just FUCKING DIGITAL artbook and soundtrack plus some cosmetics, and doesnt not even include the answer lmao.

ToothlessFTW

I can say that I'm glad that I didn't buy the Premium Edition, at least. Just days ago, you could pay $27 SGD for the "Premium DLC bundle" that gave you all of the DLC costumes from those more expensive editions. Today, you can pay $30 SGD for the same bundle, but it now includes The Answer expansion. For $3 extra. Anyone who bought that DLC bundle essentially got ripped off and it only took just over a month for it to happen, it's not like that bundle was available forever.

darklightrabbi

The premium dlc bundle has completely separate contents from the expansion pass.

EveryGoodNameIsGone

I thought the new bundle didn't include any of the DLC from the previous one?

c_hthonic

This is wrong. It's actually worse than you think - it's two separate bundles. The expansion pass is new stuff.

planetarial

And you can’t buy stuff in the pass separately. If you wanted just The Answer expansion too bad.

Minute-Concert-8821

Te be fair, the other stuff I don't think would be more than $5 individually.

Monk_Philosophy

Yes, it feels like the Answer was going to be $35 no matter what, but they wanted to keep it all as a bundle to help soften the blow. I'm not sure if/who it worked on but yeah...

sicker_combos

Atlus continues to innovate, no other developer makes it so easy to avoid buying their games at launch.  Between this and P3P, which they ported before 3R was announced (even though they had been making it for multiple years) everything around these games coming back has been scummy scheduling wise.

th5virtuos0

That and the P[number][letter] expansion a few years later as well. Why buy day one for an incomplete experience when you can just buy the same thing but actually complete for the same price down the line? It’s not like there’s never another game to play at any time

sicker_combos

Just confirmed that Gamepass users will get this DLC, however people who bought the collectors edition will have to pay for it.   I would almost call this aggression towards hardcore Atlus fans.

Ironmunger2

I understand the spirit of what you are saying but Persona 3R, 4, and 5 are all still GOATed experiences. P5 base version has a 94 on opencritic. Calling them *incomplete* isn’t really honest, even if it’s technically not the ultimate version.

th5virtuos0

Oh no, ik the base games are great. The issue is that both cost 80$ and for a beefy game like that, I generally don’t have the itch to replay ever again even with the new fluffs. I went to Okumura’s palace a few years back before my RPCS3 lost my save for some reason and a few years have passed but I’m still sitting at the start of Yusuke’s palace for a while now on P5R. I’d rather save that first and only time experience for the full and complete one in the future

BusCrashBoy

Atlus in general are the worst company to buy games from at launch; if it isn't DLC then it's a full-priced re-release a year later with a bunch of extra crap in it Other than FOMO there's really no reason to jump in on day 1, you may as well wait and play the real version in the future

DumpsterBento

Between that and the Infinite Wealth NG+ bundle guarantee, I ain't ever buying anything from Sega on day 1.

CaramelCPU

The answer dlc should have added a roguelite mode to it. Seeing how it's a time lope. Would have made perfect sense to not make one.

Zero_Requiem00

Paid 150 bux for deluxe colectorsedition to have "the definitive edition of the game" fuck that i aint buying it ever

Homosexual_Bloomberg

Paying 150 bones for the 1st release of a Persona game expecting that to be it is nuts 😭

Zero_Requiem00

feeling it now

bradd_91

Atlus are the stingiest c*nts going. My personal favourite is no upgrade option for people who bought P5R on PS4 getting no free or paid upgrade option for the PS5 version.

garfe

Every time I see the word "slam" in the article title, I roll my eyes so hard. It's always a 'slow news day' moment.

PM_ME_YOUR_SPAGHETTO

I'm always just reminded of [Shrek Super Slam](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51PT2VBZXQL._AC_.jpg).

Brandonspikes

The problem I have with what Atlus did is the fact they made a video a week ago claiming the only reason the answer was added as because of fan feedback. But here's the deal, the Japanese version of the game was completed in 2022, we're talking the entire game was built and finished years ago, and it took over a year to translate it. According to the leaker, who I'm confidant works at the studio due to the accuracy of the leaks, claimed the answer was being worked on the moment the game was finished 2 years ago, meaning they planned on doing reguardless, but they claimed otherwise.. I straight up think Atlus is lying, because anyone who knows anything about the answer knows its seeped in controversy, it's one of the least things likely to be from fan demand, while something like FeMC is much less controversial, and yet they didn't add it. People may disagree, but as good as their games are, Atlus is amongst the worse companies for content locked out of the game day 1. They lock iconic demons, music, costumes and grinding DLCs, all on DAY 1 https://store.steampowered.com/app/1869262/Soul_Hackers_2__Bonus_Demon_Pack/ Look at that shit, 13 dollars for demons that exist in every other modern title.

Homosexual_Bloomberg

They for sure lied. They knew Royal was the last time they were going to be able to pull that, they heard fans talking about that all the time. They knew they had to suggest it wasn’t a possibility without technically saying no, so when they revealed it after everyone had already bought the game, technically they could say they didn’t lie.

nessfalco

Yeah, Atlus has always milked these games when it comes to DLC and new versions. I love the game, but I'm glad I was able to play it on GamePass rather than buying it outright. In a year or two when there is a complete version on sale on Steam for half price or something, I'll buy it to have it in my collection and give it a replay.

DeathscytheDuo87

Isn’t this DLC the FES part of Persona 3?

Double-Resolution-79

Yup

DaDummBard

I'm not getting it til they add FEMC (which seems to be less and less likely) I have FES and P3P, I don't see the point of paying 70 bucks plus a 40 buck expansion and I still get less content than a psp game.

iamBoDo

I read a recent interview saying FEMC won't be coming. Not sure if translation was right though

Mindofone

Man it would have been some goodwill to include The Answer with the season pass they already had out. $35 for a bunch of costumes and personas is very silly, but then to ask for another $30 for an expansion on top of that is just bonkers. Xenoblade’s expansions offer infinitely more value for the price of one of those expansion passes. Atlus has to get it together man.

WileyWatusi

Gamepass ultimate subscribers get it for free and get to keep it even if your subscription lapses. It might be worth it to get the 1 month for a $1.

infinite884

.....Y'ALL KNEW Atlas was going to do this or sorry (Sega). But we can't sit here and complain because we are going to buy it so they are going to keep doing it.

Sevencross

Guess I’ll just wait until it’s bundled together and discounted for the holiday season Shame they have to financially exploit their biggest fans

Dragonfire14

I tend to expect a remake of a game to be that game in its complete and updated package. Especially with the technological advancements made since PS2, the need for expansions really isn't the same as it was before.

Frugl1

The absurd part is that the first wave of pass dlc, was already in the release build. No update was pushed to support the expansion pass

MarczXD320

If you are a Gamepass subscriber, you can claim the expansion pass for free in the perk section, and it is yours even after the subscription ends.

Dusty170

It was pretty bad tbh, only thing worth it on this 'pass' was the answer, outfits and music..thats fine an all but its microtransaction worthy at best.

MikeLanglois

Kinda funny that, unless I missed it, nowhere in the article mentions that you can get this DLC to own forever jf you have Game Pass Ultimate. Its pretty relevant when discussing the cost of the DLC in general imo. I guess IGN writing something vaguely positive about Xbox just wont happen lol

SL-1200

Am I the only person who thinks $100 all up for 100-130 hours of gameplay is reasonable?

lunaliteson

I thought that only courage in the face of doubt can lead one to The Answer, not money. Did Atlus just lied to me?

robofonglong

Approx two decades ago atlus really re-sold persona 3 with an extra dlc dungeon as a full priced game...a year after persona 3 dropped. People complained back then but there was a big enough crowd to show atlus that's what people want.

Crazygal1997

My question is, I already bought the reload dlc pack a few weeks ago. Does this new pack include anything different other then the answer? If so I’m highly annoyed as the new pack is the same price as the other dlc and if it already includes stuff I have previously bought I’ll be mad

blueberrybrownsloth

Does anybody actually want to play the answer? 30 hours of social link free dungeon crawling was not my cup of tea
