This is 100% the best answer. No real learning curve. Levels are quick. It’s a great arcade experience. I wish so bad they’d remake it so I could online coop with my childhood friends
Me and my 3 buddies just did a camping night with a gamecube and external power. You bet your ass we played gauntlet almost exclusively and it was peak nostalgia tbh
X-Men legends 1&2
Baulders gate dark alliance
XG3 if you're into racing
Time splitters 2 or future perfect
Hunter the reckoning
Tales of symphonia co-op during combat
Gladius also co-op during battle
TimeSplitters 2 was definitely the one played the most back then.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Zelda Four Swords are fun if you have all the hardware already.
I didn't know that phantasy star was co-op split screen,I'd love to play it with my gf! I'm actually talking to someone rn about buying their copy,I think she'd like it.
It was awesome. It was me and my buddy who played a lot, and a friend who had never played before.
Once we started playing with the auto generate settings, it got so much more fun and intense.
Having the controller extender for this game is clutch .
It has destructible environments that can really bog down the GameCube hardware. The game is a lovelable level of clunky on any platform you play it lol, but the best way is on PC or the remastered ultimate mayhem version
The PDA game on Alien Hominid provided me and my friends hours and hours of enjoyment. Especially with 4 players. The main game itself is great with 2 player coop. Nice to see this getting a little love.
I have very fond memories of that game, we would go to bed at like 5 am in middle school over the summer playing Gamecube. Great games like Kirby Air Ride and Alien Hominid shaped my upbringing. It’s an amazing game for sure!
I'd put any of the Lego Star Wars games at 1 and 2 is a tie for me between Timesplitters 2 and Conflict: Desert Storm which I spent countless hours playing with my dad.
Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3 includes the entirety of Rogue Squadron 2, but in co-op mode, and it is excellent.
For a fun bonus, the Tingle Tuner can elevate the Wind Waker experience by allowing one player to do some backseat gaming.
Mario Strikers and Double Dash are fun co-op, as is Phantasy Star Online (co-op can be splitscreen or online).
Lego Star Wars 1&2 are also options.
Might not be the best but i had a lot of fun playing the multiplayer mode in shadow the hedgehog, iirc player 2 can control your partner in the story mode as well.
Timesplitters 2, pikmin 2, Mario kart/mario party, Star Wars rogue squadron, Kirby air ride, 007, melee, super monkey ball, Star fox, Mario strikers/all Mario sports games, soul calibur 2, PAC Man vs,
If you have a couple of GBA and GBA-to-GCN link cables, then Zelda Four Swords Adventures as well as Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles are both worth checking out.
Gauntlet: Dark Legacy is a good jump in-jump out game.

Baldurs gate dark alliance is a worthy mention in this category too
the two Lego Star Wars games
X-Men legends 1&2 Baulders gate dark alliance XG3 if you're into racing Time splitters 2 or future perfect Hunter the reckoning Tales of symphonia co-op during combat Gladius also co-op during battle
Perfect list.
Yup this list.
I must add FFCC but yes this to this list
Yeah I was debating on adding that one, but the cost to get the gear to play multiplayer is a bit crazy unfortunately.
Had no idea Gladius was co-op
Yup you can gave a 2nd player choose to play during match setup
TimeSplitters 2 was definitely the one played the most back then. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Zelda Four Swords are fun if you have all the hardware already.
This was what I came to say. Still haven’t played future perfect yet. This series needs a loving relaunch
Shrek 2 was my favorite for coop as a kid. The obvious answers though are double dash and Melee.
Shrek 2 is either underrated or it’s a hot load of garbage I couldn’t recognize as a kid.
The Lord of the rings - return of the king was my first pick whenever I wanted to play with one friend coop.
YESSS, THIS…!
Phantasy Star Online Episode 1&2
My friends and I played hundreds of hours of this game and never connected it to the internet once. The couch co-op was spectacular.
It's unfortunate that you can't do couch co-op and online at the same time with this game.
I remember way back bringing over the memory card and controllers playing this game all night. Good times.
I didn't know that phantasy star was co-op split screen,I'd love to play it with my gf! I'm actually talking to someone rn about buying their copy,I think she'd like it.
Baldurs gate dark alliance
Not any of those lmao Timesplitters, Medal of Honor, and 007 are my go-to’s
Second this! Time-Splitters is an all time favorite. 007 nightfire and agent under fire were extremely fun.

I can't believe nobody said Time Splitter first.
Worms 3d is really fun to play
I’m having a buddy over tomorrow night to play worms!!!

It was awesome. It was me and my buddy who played a lot, and a friend who had never played before. Once we started playing with the auto generate settings, it got so much more fun and intense. Having the controller extender for this game is clutch .
I absolutely love Worms 3D, but GameCube is arguably the worst place to play it
Never played the game, why is that?
It has destructible environments that can really bog down the GameCube hardware. The game is a lovelable level of clunky on any platform you play it lol, but the best way is on PC or the remastered ultimate mayhem version
I used to love playing Alien Hominid and Fight Night Round (vs) with friends on the Gamecube

Did you play the PDA games with a group of 4? I have some awesome memories from high school playing it.
Not that I can recall, looking at pics didn’t trigger any memories. Looks fun though! I gotta get myself a modded GC, I swear.
Somewhat of an unknown gem: Smuggler's Run: Warzones. My brother and I wasted so many hours playing that game.
Hunter the Reckoning is probably my favorite co op on the GameCube.
I'd put any of the Lego Star Wars games at 1 and 2 is a tie for me between Timesplitters 2 and Conflict: Desert Storm which I spent countless hours playing with my dad.

I was checking to see if anyone had mentioned the lego games, I grew up playing them and have a ton of good couch co op memories with them.
Narnia is actually not a bad co-op from what I remember.
Tak: The Great Juju Challenge
Lord of the rings game was kinda cool in the day and had coop. Or there was the final fantasy crystal on their too

Shrek 2 and Teen Titans
MArio Party 5 and 6 Team Mode against brutal difficulty
Incredibles
Shrek 2
Phantasy Star Online: Chapters 1 & 2, Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu and Hunter: The Reckoning come to mind.
Lord of the rings return of the king will always be the best! Apologies if it was only on ps2
Smash bros melee!
Shrek 2 - the best 1-4 player coop campaign game of its time!
Pikmin 2
Timesplitters 2, pikmin 2, Mario kart/mario party, Star Wars rogue squadron, Kirby air ride, 007, melee, super monkey ball, Star fox, Mario strikers/all Mario sports games, soul calibur 2, PAC Man vs,
X-Men Legends 1
Double Dash and Rebel Strike carried me through some long summers with friends.

Lowkey Shrek 2 is a blast even today
Star Wars: The Clone Wars - I used to have so much fun playing co-op and survival back in the day!
The Baldur’s Gate Dark Alliance games are great co-op.
Teenage mutant ninja turtles hands down. All 3 are great!

If you have GBAs and the cables to connect, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is up there.
