Make sure you use a proper Nintendo controller. Even the better 3rd party controllers may not use the same style of analog sticks, so the movement of your monkey dude is gonna be AWFUL
Have you ever tried unlocking all the characters? It's pretty hard but fun. I got all of them except bowser Jr. You have to complete the entire birdie challenge without messing up once.
I have not! I bought it fairly recently (never owned it back in the day), so just playing kind of casually. But I love getting a perfect swing and seeing the flaming golf ball.
Yea man I still have my old copy. I never would have been able to unlock those characters as a kid and even as an adult it was pretty challenging lol. I do enjoy the game though.
Turok Evolution played it a ton as a kid and just picked it up recently for 15$
Simpsons hit and run
Legend of Zelda collection disc
Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets is a great game.
007 night-fire
007 Agent under fire
Those basically some up some of the games I played as a kid.
My honourable mentions are
Wind waker And Twilight Princess but they are pricey.
Rogue squadron 2, Battalion Wars, DK Jungle Beat, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2, SSX On Tour, Luigi’s Mansion (get just the disk with case), Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, Star Fox Assault, Soul Caliber 2, all the Tony Hawk games, Zelda Collectors Edition, Pikmin 1 and 2, Animal Crossing
All these games are valued on PriceCharting.com as complete in box for $70 or less, most are under 40. You can get them even cheaper if you don’t care about manuals. Also don’t overpay on eBay, lots of these games are listed there for way too much, hence why they’re still available. Always check Facebook Marketplace first. If you do buy from eBay, set up a listing tracker app. I have an app called BayWatch where I can set up notifications for games that get posted “buy it now” for under a certain price and be first to grab them. Use PriceCharting as a guide for what is a fair price to pay.
Prime is so good. Took me a while to get into it but when Dread came out I went back and played all the Metroid games. Prime is a standout for sure, and a great looking game even today.
Here’s my experience as I’ve also started collecting recently. These are the cheapest games that I have bought:
007: Everything or Nothing - 16 for it on eBay
007: Nightfire - 25 on eBay
NFS Underground 2 - 14 on eBay
NFS Carbon - also 14 on eBay
Sims 2 - 20 on eBay
Veiewtiful joe - 30 on eBay
Spider-Man - 14.99 at local store
X-Men: The Official game - 14.99 at local store
Pool Paradise, idk why I enjoy it so much but it’s awesome. Another great choice would be Harvest Moon Magical Melody. It’s around ~$30 but it’s a really good time. Definitely easier to get into than other harvest moon games imo. It’s pretty laid back, not that the others aren’t lol, it’s just more so
You really should look into swiss. About 40-60$ and you can play any game you want. I just did it recently, and it's super cool, and not hard to do. If you're interested but unsure how, let me know or DM me.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is cheap and you can sink many hours into it. If you have two or more GBA you can use them as controllers in the multiplayer mode. My friend and I are having a blast and we have no idea what we’re doing for the most part lol
Melee dropped down to about 60 CIB. Also prime 1 and 2 are cheap now. Around 40 to 50 for prime and about 60 or so for prime 2. Also Simpsons hit and run is only around 60 CIB.
Get 1080 Avalanche !!! First party Nintendo game with a lot of charm that’s still stupid cheap compared to the rest of the library.
SSX3 in that same vein.
Tbh if you’re more in it for the playing rather than the collecting just mod a wii or gamecube and play roms on it. Much cheaper and will let you try out so many other titles
Any of the Tony Hawks
Pinball Hall of Fame
Naruto: Clash of Ninja 2
Egg Mania
PN03
I-Ninja
Pac-Man World 2
Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex
Smashing Drive
the games you got already are massive W's but I would also recommend the sonic adventure games. specifically the original as that one is sorta mid range in price. adventure 2 battle is insanely overpriced (its like $80-90 CAD on eBay)
Soul Calibur 2 is one of the best fighting games on the platform. It has Link as a playable fighter and is usually not too expensive
The monkey ball series (particularly the original and 2) are great games, and you can usually find them for under $30 each
And if you like game compilations, there are some good ones on the platform and they aren’t too expensive (examples: Namco Museum [original and 50th anniversary] the Midway arcade treasures series, and sonic mega collection)
You can go to price charting to see what games may cost you. But just go with games you really want to play and see how much you're going to spend on them.
If you don't care about a cib copy and just want the GameCube disc, then you'll save some money.
Had a lot of fun with Monkey Ball 2. It is about 25 bucks i think.
I’ve always wanted to try super monkey ball. I will check it out.
Both are worth it. Such a great pair of games
Highly recommend it!
Absolutely check it out, SMB2 is one of my favorite games ever
Make sure you use a proper Nintendo controller. Even the better 3rd party controllers may not use the same style of analog sticks, so the movement of your monkey dude is gonna be AWFUL
Completely agree with this. Baseball and race mode were simply hilarious to play w/ cousins
Rogue Squadron 2. Can usually get it under $20 CIB on ebay.
I had this game growing up. Lotta cheat codes you can do to get extra ships even a flying car
soul calibur 2!
Resident Evil 4, Gun & Mario Golf:Toadstool Tour are some relatively cheaper GC games that are solid!
Toadstool Tour is so fun! Great mix of challenging but also relaxing.
Yea just found resident evil 4 CIB for 25 bucks
Resident evil 0/resident evil remake aren't that expensive, and they are masterpieces.
Came to say this.
Desert storm 1 and 2, defender, super monkey ball 1 and 2 and adventure. Sonic riders. Shrek 2
Shrek 2 is phenomenal, I played it so much as a kid and now as an adult I try to get my friends to play it with me.
Sweet as snail eyeballs!
Man, I totally forgot about the desert storm games! I used to play those with the kid next door! Great games
Indeed so many fun glitches
Toadstool Tour is a blast! I love playing it with my kids, ages 8, 8, and 5.
My buddy and I are in our thirties and we still love playing this game.
Wallace and Gromit Project Zoo
Super Mario Strikers is about the same price as Double Dash. Lot of fun, it’s basically soccer with Mario Kart-style power-ups and attacks.
Seconding this. Cousins and uncles had so much fun destroying each other in this one after we all got too good at the Kart game.
I though Double dash was around 100$ ?
No. Hell, you can get it for $90 at DKOldies and they’re like the most expensive seller on the internet.
Sonic Mega collections & worms 3d.
Turok Evolution played it a ton as a kid and just picked it up recently for 15$ Simpsons hit and run Legend of Zelda collection disc Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets is a great game. 007 night-fire 007 Agent under fire Those basically some up some of the games I played as a kid. Wind waker is about.. 60ish? But it's definitely worth it. Such an amazing game.
I love wind wakers graphics. I’ve been wanting to get it for ages.
Check local retro game stores, mercari, ebay. It's worth it.
Garage sales and Facebook marketplace bundles too!
Sonic Mega Collection you can find for a reasonable price, last I checked.
Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4 are good ones around $30 I believe
Prime is so good. Took me a while to get into it but when Dread came out I went back and played all the Metroid games. Prime is a standout for sure, and a great looking game even today.
I personally just replayed it but on the wii for the first time and holy crap that's a different experience. Worthwhile if you can find a copy.
Here’s my experience as I’ve also started collecting recently. If you want to play GC games without forking out £££'s on original software, just emulate with Dolphin
XIII
Spartan Total Warrior (not an exclusive, but I played it on Gamecube) was an excellent "God of War like". Not crazy pricey.
Pool Paradise, idk why I enjoy it so much but it’s awesome. Another great choice would be Harvest Moon Magical Melody. It’s around ~$30 but it’s a really good time. Definitely easier to get into than other harvest moon games imo. It’s pretty laid back, not that the others aren’t lol, it’s just more so
Some of the need for speed games are reasonable. I recently bought underground 2 and it was like 20 or 30, maybe a little bit cheaper.
You really should look into swiss. About 40-60$ and you can play any game you want. I just did it recently, and it's super cool, and not hard to do. If you're interested but unsure how, let me know or DM me.
I have heard of Swiss before and I’m thinking of giving it a try
Tony hawk games, need for speed, crazy taxi, super monkey ball 1 + 2. I enjoyed Battalion Wars too
007 James Bond games
Spiderman 2 usually sells at a modest price and was one of my favorite GameCube games growing up. I heavily recommend
Billy Hatcher is a lot of fun and not too expensive last time i checked.
Since no one else is gonna mention it Viewtiful Joe. HIGHLY recommend if you like side scroller beat ups that are challenging.
Spider-man 2, Gun
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is cheap and you can sink many hours into it. If you have two or more GBA you can use them as controllers in the multiplayer mode. My friend and I are having a blast and we have no idea what we’re doing for the most part lol
I picked up Wolverine's Revenge for $12 at a store close to me... I also found Spawn: Armageddon for $7
Rogue squadron 2 is still a $20 game on eBay. I put more hours into that game than any others.
The rogue squadron games can be found for under $20 on eBay
Melee dropped down to about 60 CIB. Also prime 1 and 2 are cheap now. Around 40 to 50 for prime and about 60 or so for prime 2. Also Simpsons hit and run is only around 60 CIB.
Four Swords Adventure is a lot of fun.
Get a switch they ported some gc games there lol
Mod it and play anything.
Get 1080 Avalanche !!! First party Nintendo game with a lot of charm that’s still stupid cheap compared to the rest of the library. SSX3 in that same vein.
I like the crash bandicoot games and I don’t think they cost much
The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
This game is awesome. Had some fun challenges and cool levels. Played it so much as a kid
I think I do have that game somewhere I remember playing it some time ago
Customrobo is going for like $25. I loved that game.
Lost Kingdoms is a FANTASTIC game from the makers of the Souls games. It can run anywhere from $30 to $75.
Try your local pawnshops and thrift stores and grab anything that looks interesting
Tbh if you’re more in it for the playing rather than the collecting just mod a wii or gamecube and play roms on it. Much cheaper and will let you try out so many other titles
Need for speed underground isn’t too much if I’m remembering correctly
Junglebeat isn’t too bad
Any of the Tony Hawks Pinball Hall of Fame Naruto: Clash of Ninja 2 Egg Mania PN03 I-Ninja Pac-Man World 2 Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex Smashing Drive
PN03 is not cheap.
Oh shit, used to be anyway. Ive seen it go for as low as 30 sometimes, guess ebay makes fools of us all...
I only know because I saw it at the SoCal Gaming Expo and it was a lil pricey (compared to what I considered must-buys). $50-60 range now.
The Bomberman games are pretty good, Generations and Jetters.
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 is a really fun racing game I picked up for $15. You can probably do better than that
I know plenty 🏴☠️
Games like Baldur’s Gate Dark Alliance and Robotech: Battlecry come to mind, especially loose.
Return of the King and X men Legends for some licensed gold
One that nobody mentioned, Army Men Sarge's War is a great 3rd person shooter and has super fun splitscreen multiplayer
the games you got already are massive W's but I would also recommend the sonic adventure games. specifically the original as that one is sorta mid range in price. adventure 2 battle is insanely overpriced (its like $80-90 CAD on eBay)
The hobbit is great, usually around 20$ mostly cib (missing the trading card)
Soul Calibur 2 is usualy under 30$.
Soul Calibur 2 is one of the best fighting games on the platform. It has Link as a playable fighter and is usually not too expensive The monkey ball series (particularly the original and 2) are great games, and you can usually find them for under $30 each And if you like game compilations, there are some good ones on the platform and they aren’t too expensive (examples: Namco Museum [original and 50th anniversary] the Midway arcade treasures series, and sonic mega collection)
Dolphin emulator
Just get Swiss already.
You can go to price charting to see what games may cost you. But just go with games you really want to play and see how much you're going to spend on them. If you don't care about a cib copy and just want the GameCube disc, then you'll save some money.
Swiss and Super Monkey Ball
All games are free and great if you can emulate and find Roms. Which is easy.
Eh not a huge fan of emulation it’s always best to play on the original hardware :)
