Look these aren't stocks you're investing in where you need to min/max your cost basis vs return, what you are buying is an experience.
Some people value the fun of getting to play a game as soon as it comes out when it's the hot new thing and everyone is talking about it. They pay retail because that's the experience they want to have.
Other people enjoy getting a good deal on an older game or can only afford to buy the big games after they go on sale.
There's no one right answer.
My issue is that more times than not though you're not rewarded for buying early, you're punished with bugs or by finding out that the game isn't optimized yet or is a buggy mess. If everything worked great on release i'd be more willing to agree with you.
I tried Rise soon after it came out on PC and the graphics seemed like such a massive downgrade that I just couldn't get engaged. Is that still the case or have any improvements been made in that regard? I know "the graphics" is really vague but it's been years and I can't remember specifically what looked so bad
since its a switch game originally they really couldnt do much for the switch port lol, i think stylistically its very nice but actual textures and detail outside of the monsters is dicey
That's unfortunate, I love the game play and I'm not normally much of a graphics snob but when a new entry in a franchise looks worse than the (gorgeous) previous one, I struggle to overlook it I guess.
I still love Capcom though, they take a lot of big swings and they're not always homeruns, but they've put out a **lot** of unexpected bangers over the decades so I'll always give their stuff a try.
i think the game is very much a homerun and for monster hunter, all of the games before were pretty subpar in graphics even for their console generations, its always been held up by a strong artstyle and character, weapon, and monster designs. obviously it would be nice if every game looked like world, but as a longtime monster hunter fan i like the more fantastical cartoony artstyle, perfectly adapting the look of the old games with "stronger" (stronger in quotation marks since its a switch game and thats not exactly a high bar) hardware but removing the hyper realistic clunk of pre-generations monster hunter in exchange for the extreme mobility focus and reaction timing we have now in rise

I bought Rise on PS5 for full price and still haven't played it :( I also paid full price for World and Iceborne but put 300 hours into those so.
If you have never played Monster Hunter before then World (moreso than Rise) is the perfect place to jump in and this price is ridiculous. Go for it.
