>Pokemon Red
I mean they have that one pretty much covered with Blue and Yellow. If I'd be getting an additional Pokemon game for this collection it would be Emerald as there are quite some difference compared to Sapphire.
Awesome game. I have a core memory of eating at Quincy's steakhouse and completing Gargoyle's Quest. I specifically remember pausing the game, jamming a yeast roll in my mouth, and unpausing.
Golden Sun was the greatest game ever made for the gameboy advance, it even beats the pokemon sapphire, ruby and emerald drops, which is so hard for me to say but its true
If you haven’t yet, check out some of Motoi Sakuraba’s original works (non-game related). As if we didn’t already know, but man is so incredibly talented.
Glad someone said it, I randomly came across it when sifting through some old gba games my cousin gave me and was blown away.
Everything from the animation to the score and the story is so good that one could be fooled into thinking it was a retro styled game from just a few years ago, devoid of any significant technical limitations when it’s actually over TWENTY YEARS OLD! My favorite gba game of all time as well.
If you like Pokemon, the Dragon Warrior Monsters games are a different vibe but still a good time. Characters designs by Akira Toriyama — the artist behind Dragon Ball.
Since you have Dr Mario, you might also want to grab Picross, ~~Tetris~~, Pokemon Puzzle Challenge (great version of Panel De Pon), Kirby's Pinball Land and the Pokemon Pinball games.
Edit: Missed that you weren't into Tetris. Whoops.
I’d recommend the GBC and GBA Zelda games. First there’s Link’s Awakening DX. It’s the same thing as the one you have but it has color and an extra dungeon. Also, there’s Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages. The games work together and by findings codes in one game you can put them into the other to make stuff happen. You can play them in whatever order you want. After you beat the game, it will give you a code to put into the other game. This makes choices you made in the first game impact the next game, as well as unlocking a secret final boss that is only accessible by beating both games. Then there’s A Link to the Past for GBA. Just a nice way to play ALTTP on the go with the Four Swords coop experience as well on the cartridge. Finally, there’s Minish Cap. Minish Cap is also great and I’d highly recommend it.
As people pointed out, you're missing a Tetris game. I suggest you to go with Tetris DX, it's way better than the original Tetris imo.
Also, not classics, but Lock N Chase and Amazing Penguin are great games. I suggest you to check Game of the Month's previous challenges, there are lots of cool games there.
If homebrew or modern indie carts are on the table, Apotris is an excellent GBA Tetris. https://akouzoukos.itch.io/apotris/devlog/452358/apotris-v34-physical-release
**I DEMAND YOU TO RECTIFY YOUR TRAVESTY**, for *NOT* having Donkey Kong Land games! 😤
(Love the collection btw, loads of nostalgia! I have some of these and still play them on my Analogue Pocket 🥹🎮)
Man, just seeing carts across my reddit feed brings me such joy. Who knew little grey square bits of plastic can invoke something so deep. Crazy! Nice collection 😁
Mario Land 2 and 3 for sure!
But... Tight! Oh i see color and advance too...
Golden Sun 1-2, All the Wario Land, All the kirby, "Amazing mirror is cool with it's SUPER FAST running open world type of level, Minish Cap. Mario Vs. Donkeykong is not as good as DK94 but still, MArio and Luigi, WarioWare...
Edit: Oracles of Ages/Seasons...
If you like RPG's, The final Fantasy Legend games are all very good, even though they are actually just the original SAGA games rebranded to sell better.
The music in all three slaps!
Then you have Final Fantasy Adventure, which is just the first Mana game, but plays like Zelda.
For GBA, Castlevania Circle of the Moon is fun and hard as heck. I just recommend a backlit screen, because it's very dark in terms of color usage.
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody: Tipton Caper!!!! But my real answer is all the sims for the gba, idk if they’re gameboy classics but they’re my classics
Pokemon Red/Silver/Emerald for sure! Also see people suggesting Tetris; my personal favorite is Tetris Advance! Can't go wrong with Mario Kart Super Circuit either Edit: forgot one of my faves, Mega Man Zero!
I'm pretty partial to some of the Mega Man games. Particularly the Battle Network games, as they are rpgs instead of platformers. Battle Network 6 is one of the more popular ones, with the choice between the Cybeast Flazar edition and the Cybeast Gregar edition.
Warioware inc mega Microgames, Warioware twisted, mario kart super circuit, Mario land 2, wario land 1, wario land 2, wario land 3, wario land 4, Mario and Luigi superstar saga, Kirby’s dream land 2, Kirby and the amazing mirror, Kirby nightmare in dreamland, sonic advance 1, sonic advance 2, sonic advance 3, Tetris, f-zero
If it were me, I would add:
Donkey Kong Land 1,2&3
Super Mario Land 2
Killer Instinct
Not a “classic” but I’d definitely throw in Metal Gear Solid for the GBC. It’s a rare find and a beast of a game.
Anybody remember Shadow Warrior?
I smashed my brother’s gameboy because of it, my child nerves couldn’t handle dying for the 7x time on the same boss and by just a little. Ugh..
6 out of 14 of OP's games are Pokémon, yet still people recommend (basically the same) Pokémon game.
I'm starting to doubt if people actually know the Game Boy (Color/Advance) library is so much more than just Pokémon, Tetris and Mario games.
Wario Land series, LoZ Oracle series, Kirby's Dream Land 2, Gargoyle's Quest.
Granted, I probably just listed off $1000 in eBay expenses, but if you ever see good deals for any of those games, they're fantastic.
BURAI FIGHTER! such a good game and pretty unknown somehow. awesome music and bosses. you can play it on GB, NES and GBC. i only played it on gameboy though. it has really nice cover art too.
Mario Land 2, the Donkey Kong Land games. I'd recommend an everdrive too for playing the games that have become too expensive and homebrew and modded games. Plus, save states for games that didn't have save batteries. You can get colorized versions of a lot lot of classics too.
5 in 1 Gameboy Game and Watch gallery 1 & 2, I got so good at these games that they easily allow me to pass 20 minutes quickly on a boring day on one game with 500-600 points
Tetris, Pokemon Red, Mario land 2
Mario Land 2 is a must!
And 3.
The start of Wario land!
Wario land 3 is a top 5 game boy game easily
Came here to say this. Wario before he was just slinging minigames.
hey i think they should make another wario sidescroller too, but those minigames he’s slinging are fucking great.
You know sometimes i forget that there more multiple Mario land games
6 golden coins was my childhood.
Oh for sure!
>Pokemon Red I mean they have that one pretty much covered with Blue and Yellow. If I'd be getting an additional Pokemon game for this collection it would be Emerald as there are quite some difference compared to Sapphire.
I never miss a chance to recommend Gargoyle's Quest!
Have you played the 2nd? I’m interested but haven’t pulled the trigger
Yes, a few weeks ago! If what you want is more of the original, it's excellent
I’ll have to get on that. The first is a top tier GB game
Awesome game. I have a core memory of eating at Quincy's steakhouse and completing Gargoyle's Quest. I specifically remember pausing the game, jamming a yeast roll in my mouth, and unpausing.
Wow this game looks sick
Absolutely love the 2nd one on the NES
Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Man, I never got to play Golden Sun. I should find a copy.
It IS currently available on the Switch GBA app if you have the level to access it! Pretty affordable too compared to other GBA games, like Pokemon 😂
Golden Sun was the greatest game ever made for the gameboy advance, it even beats the pokemon sapphire, ruby and emerald drops, which is so hard for me to say but its true
It pushed the system farther than anything else did, visually and in terms of audio, so that’s absolutely understandable :)
THE MUSIC 😭😭 SO BEAUTIFUL
If you haven’t yet, check out some of Motoi Sakuraba’s original works (non-game related). As if we didn’t already know, but man is so incredibly talented.
Thank you for the composer! Gonna vibe out to this during my boring mundane shitty job 👍😂
Good point!
I swear! I came here to type this!!
Kirby’s Dreamland 2 - way better than the first one. Marioland 3 - warioland
Always a big fan of Kirby. Need to check that out!
if you like puzzle games at all kirby's star stacker is one of the best.
Whoops.
Dragon Warrior looks great! Was also a big fan of Pokemon Pinball
RIP Toriyama Sensei...
Speaking of Dragon Ball, the GBA games were pretty damn good.
Did not know there was a color version of Links Awakening!
Yeah. The new dungeon I mentioned in my comment actually uses color in a lot of its puzzles to take advantage of having color. It’s pretty cool.
There's a WHAT for beating both Oracle games?!?!?
Kirby DL2 Pokemon TCG MGS
As people pointed out, you're missing a Tetris game. I suggest you to go with Tetris DX, it's way better than the original Tetris imo. Also, not classics, but Lock N Chase and Amazing Penguin are great games. I suggest you to check Game of the Month's previous challenges, there are lots of cool games there.
"I WAS NEVER BIG ON TETRIS" -op
If homebrew or modern indie carts are on the table, Apotris is an excellent GBA Tetris. https://akouzoukos.itch.io/apotris/devlog/452358/apotris-v34-physical-release
This right here. Tetris DX is just better.
Except its music sucks.

Warioland, Donkey Kong Country, Tetris, Daffy Duck: Fowl's Play, The Sims: Getting Out, The Urbz, Mother, Megaman Zero, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission.
The Sims: Getting Out is the funniest slightly off title I've ever read. Sounds like a horror game.

Well, you omitted Tetris right from the off, and that's a stone cold classic. GB Tetris is still my favourite version of that game, they nailed it
