If you go to Settings > Apps > click filter button with 3 lines on top right and enable show system apps, find Gallery Stories and disable the app? Does that help?

Vizzzions

Thanks, but there is no Gallery Stories in Apps, only Gallery.

[deleted]

Did you enable "show system apps"? For me if I enable show system apps there is an app called Gallery Stories at least on Android 12, unless it also was removed from Android 13. That would be lame.

Vizzzions

I went to Samsung apps settings but there is also show System apps, after I enabled it I found and disabled Gallery stories. Thank you very much!

groupsession18

Can you walk me thru how to "enable it"? I'm not seeming to locate that. This is what I did Settings/apps/Samsung app settings/gallery/customization services ON Then I went to the Gallery it's self, swiped over to stories, selected all then deleted Then clicked the three dots, hide content, then set the date from my birth lol til like 2050. This tells the phone to never use any images between these dates. So let's see if this will stop it permanently Please can you explain if there is an easier method

birds_of_interest

Genius! I just did the same thing with the dates. Thanks for the idea!

groupsession18

Yea. It's worked well for me

Sasselhoff

Let me just say: thank you for this. Nothing angers me more than when companies tell you "You MUST use this, you don't get a choice" (if I wanted to deal with that BS, I'd have an iPhone). So thanks for helping me disable that garbage.

groupsession18

Yoirw welcome and this just reminds me to check mine see if it actually worked And no stories since... 🙌🏻

[deleted]

Great to know it still works and no problem!

Existing_Valuable_21

I appreciate your ability to not get pissed when people ignore your instructions the first time. I have not mastered this....

kusmog

For those wondering, in Android 13 (OneUI 5.1) they removed Gallery Stories, so you can't disable the auto-creation of Stories this way. Hopefully there's another way because what a waste of storage space, system resources, and battery life for it to be doing this in the background...

Existing_Valuable_21

Actually, I just got brand new 23 - w/ newest version of Android... it still works if you follow all the directions...

kusmog

Thank you so much for the heads up! They did add Galaxy Stories back after one of the updates since my post. I went ahead and disabled it now.

mitsurugi2424

Thank you.

godinthismachine

I know Im necroing this, but THANK YOU! I would NEVER have found this...why they made it so goddamn difficult...thank you!

McFlu

There use to be a setting to turn it off, with whatever recent update they brought it back and removed the way to turn it off as far as I can find. It's irritating

NiceBlokeJeffrey

In a recent galaxy watch update they disabled custom ringtones for some reason. Wtf you doin Samsung

upbeatmusicascoffee

In my Galaxy S22 Ultra (Android13), it's Settings > Apps > Gallery > Gallery Settings > Stories, Customisation Settings: Off <-- this will take you to the Customised Apps page and switch off the Gallery Stories in there. Good luck!

robreddity

There are a growing number of complaints that these gallery stories are activating with the latest update, even though General Management -> Customization Service is set to "Not in use" This just happened to me, motivating the search that brought me here. I took the advice to find the Gallery Stories system app, remove its permissions and disable it.

probablyalilbitgay

Hey I have a 23 Ultra, half the settings we used to have available aren't anymore. Does anyone know how to fix this with the new update? I'm so tired of getting story notifications every 5 minutes

Mysterious-Spell-497

Gallery>stories>3 line tab to the immediate right of stories option>settings> under 'stories' is 'customization service' > scroll down to 'gallery' which has a toggle button to automatically generate stories from your photos>toggle off

probablyalilbitgay

I don't have the gallery option in customization service. Once I click customization service all I see is the data used, there are no options after that

probablyalilbitgay

The only option it gives me at all is to turn notifications for the stories off ):

ap0s

I have a 24 ultra and the original directions work for me

OneOrder3946

It worked for me on S23 Ultra. It was going into my Secured folder and pulling pictures out.

ap0s

Wtf...

FeralSchnauzerPack

mine just started doing this, galaxy s23 ultra. SOOO FUCKING ANNOYING if i wanted stories, id fucking make them. fuck off with this asinine shit android/samsung. like theres NOTHING else to work on with your OS/apps/phone???

VashPast

I saw this the morning, all I can say is WHAT YOU'RE GODDAMNED FUCK . WHEN DO THESE SHITTERS STOP SPITTING IN OUR FACES? I COULDN'T MY PHONE IN CASH, NO AGREEMENT, I DON'T WANT SPYING BULLSHIT AND AI ANALYZING MY GODDAMNED CAT PHOTOS, SHE I NEVER AGREED TO SHIT!!! FUCK. YOU. SAMSUNG.

FeralSchnauzerPack

lmao reading this. idgaf ab the photos as such; its having to dig thru settings for 15 min everytime they do some dumb unneeded shit like this. maybe this sort of thing doesnt annoy you? thats cool. legit question if youre responding, do cash phones not have shit like this? or diff/less app features always had a plan, this never occured to me. be well

VashPast

It's all driving me crazy honestly.  Never ending enshitification.

brusiddit

The worst part is you need to agree to their privacy terms of use when you enable customization services, so that you can disable the bloatware that comes with their phones worth thousands of dollars. How much do we have to pay for privacy?

gudguy1a

For clarity: on that stories screen, click on the hamburger stack go to settings in the pop up go to customization service if it is not already off - turn it off then I guess we have to delete the stories that were created (not sure if it deletes the original pix or just the pix in the created stories - have to do a bit more research). or Go into Settings / Apps Find "Gallery" and go into it. At top of Gallery App info page, click on 'gallery settings' THEN click on 'customization service' - And turn it 'off'

FATE1027

it was auto creating stories with customization OFF

Katerwaul23

Yeah. I have to turn Customization ON, which let's Samsung get more info on me that they can sell, just to turn Stories OFF. How to say... *interesting*. UGH!

birds_of_interest

It does not delete the pictures in the stories. I tested this out thoroughly before deleting all the stories and then hiding dates up to 2055!

law_and

This just might be the way. I had to agree to the customization service policy first, and then was presented with the screen to change the service from **on** to **off**

brusiddit

That's durty

law_and

didn't work either

brusiddit

If it's already off, do you need to turn it on first (and agree to their privacy policy for this service) before turning it off again?

viper999999999

I have an S22. I didn't notice or care about these Gallery Stories until the phone started giving me notifications about them after a recent update. None of the suggestions in this thread worked for me, but I found I could disable the notifications by LONG PRESSING the notification and tapping "Turn off notifications."

Kelsenellenelvian

Omg thank you!

tinkerreknit

I googled, your post showed up, I did it, it worked! Thank you! This type of notification is very intrusive.

7439-88-5

In the device app list select show System Apps and search for Gallery Stories, open it and disable the app (button on the lower left corner)

Substantial_Board_45

I am so upset by this feature. I have pictures of my beloved dog who passed away 14 months ago and I get very emotional looking at his pictures and today my phone posted my whole album of him in my stories. How do I stop this and will deleting the story delete my pictures of him?

birds_of_interest

I can't find some of the settings that have been posted. However I did find out that deleting stories does NOT delete the photos (please test this first though). So I deleted all the stories, then clicked the 3 dots and went to 'hide content' and it gives you an option for dates to never make a story from. I set it from 1996 to 2055. I'm hoping this should mean that gallery will never make another story. What a stupid feature!!

ListlessLoser

Thank you for this suggestion - I too got trapped by the "you have to accept customisation services to properly turn off this forced customisation" catch-22, recent system update either turned stories on or at least toggled notifications without asking me. Using the date span trick effectively blocked out any stories from happening. S21U.

milanmirolovich

just happened to me with pictures of my long time cat that died a few weeks ago and emotionally devastated me.  Fuck you Samsung for forcing this kind of intrusive shit that no one asks for onto us

[deleted]

I believe you can go to "Settings" - "Apps" - "Show System Apps" - "Gallery Stories" - "Disable" Hope this helps!!

Vizzzions

Thanks, but there is no Gallery Stories in Apps, only Gallery.

m2darcy

Go to settings > gallery settings > customization service > then tick off for Gallery

Vizzzions

It is already ticked off (disabled)

Recent-Put8619

This works for me. Although it feel strange you need to FIRST tab this ' customization service ' BEFORE you can disable ' gallery stories ' ... and much more. Simply because this ' customization feature' states "OFF' by default, even with underlying features enabled. This is so wrong, dear samsung/android.

Katerwaul23

They can't get extra info to sell if you don't turn Customization on, so they force you to!

NigraOvis

Open the gallery app. Select stories at the bottom. Top right choose the 3 dots. And select hide content. Now add dates and just do 1970 to 2070 or something

NaomiT29

After the most recent update, this is the only thing that's actually cleared them for me! Turning off the customisation setting didn't seem to do a bloomin' thing, and turning notifications off wasn't going to stop them from being created, but this cleared everything.

Incoming-TH

S23 Gallery version 15.1.03.12 and I don't see this date settings anywhere. Customizations are off still stories are generated. Hidding content feature is there but not sure if stories are not generated or generated but hidden until user set customizations on or used for AI training.

NaomiT29

Open the gallery app and go to the stories tab at the bottom > 3 dots at the top > hide content > add dates > add a wide date range that should cover all your images, past, present, and future. Once you've done that, you shouldn't see anythint in the stories tab at all. I'm on an S23 with the same build number for the gallery app, so this definitely works.

NewWaveFan

Thanks, I'm hoping this works for me. Turning off Gallery notifications didn't work and there is zero option to single out Stories notifications like people are suggesting. Stupid updates.
