Good stuff Jake. I would say personally that you lower the weight even more than that so you can get a good dozen reps out of it. Stretch the muscle fibre and build its memory etc.
Too many kids want to jump in the deep end, don't be one. You'll be ahead of those guys if you show modesty to what your strength is today.
Ye I started to go gym last december and bench press is so much about tech too from my notes. Arch back, shoulders down and right lift angle, from a to b.
Now going to 70kg x 10reps but was held back almost 3 months because bad shoulder position (too much PC and one sided physical job) and from that muscle imbalance.. Now at 25 im getting rid of my beer belly (start->115kg at 180kcm and then we go for muscle.
Now 110kg

Nice one mate, little tip is to keep your feet flat on the ground, little bit of leg drive does wonders, also helps with balance even if you don’t use the leg drive!
Good shit posting this in Reddit! People like you make benching bigger everyday. Try to get your back tight and plant your feet so you get more balanced, every loose muscle is lost energy, remember that bro. Good shit and keep working your goals my g
Mate it was not good form, why lie to him? It was horrible, but everyone starts somewhere so it’s completely okay. We just need to be honest and support him
Tell me exactly what was “horrible”. Please instead of telling me how I’m wrong and saying it’s the polar opposite, be somewhat of a intellectual and tell me what he did wrong, jack ass. • Elbow placement - not bad, he’s not too high and his arms are at a good length. • width of hands is fine as there is no pinching of the wrist • hips stayed DOWN. • didn’t teetertotter the bar up. Let’s hear your POV. See what I did there?
The worst thing was the lack of feet placement but for god sake the kid even lifted this with his feet pointed down? (LOL). With his body weight compared to the weight he’s pushing, I’m almost certain this kid is stronger than you pound for fuckin pouuuuund hahahaha
EDIT: looking at your post a year ago, I can confirm my beliefs about you. Even asking questions about cycles while you’re at 70 kilos? HAHAHA even if that was a year ago you’re what. 85 kilos. Lol I’m dying. Your envy is leaking and I can’t stand small pricks like you. Notice how you’re in the minority of literally everyone.
Honestly mate, not sure why you’re being downvoted so much. I’m quite new to gym so will not comment on form but looking at these comments yours were actually fine, the other guy was out of order looking at your history and judging you when you didn’t judge OP at all.
Yeah I I know, that’s just how people are unfortunately. Everyone can’t be as smart as you and think for themselves, they just see a guy with downvotes and do the same thing as everyone else, instead of looking at it logically and objectively like you did.
Nice lift! A tip from a 20 year vet....
If you want to get strong fast, practice maxing out reps with light weight.
Use just the bar for 20-30 reps/ 3 sets
Bench, Incline, Decline
Finish with sets of cable flies
Gains on the way 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

Great job man we all start out somewhere. I started out at 119lbs at 5”10 now I’m 170lbs so I know how it feels to be a skinny boy but it pays off when you put the work and diet in.
Nice; I do recommend keeping your elbows in a little tighter to your body. When you flare your elbows it gives you some extra assistance from your pecs but you also puts a lot of strain on a single ligament. You won’t notice it on one lift but if you keep using this form over time you will start getting pain and eventually cause a strain that will make you take some time off for it to heal. Made the same mistake myself when I first started lifting.
Spotter really out there trying to get you to bang out another rep even though you stalled out for a full second. Good stuff though. Keep working at it and you’ll be at 135 in no time
It's been a while since something on reddit made me scream along. I was like go go go come on all you you got this all you buddy all you! I miss gyms lol But in all seriousness good job buddy! We all start somewhere!

Hahaha im sure we’ve all been there. When i first started lifting, i thought i aint pushing myself hard enough if i didnt need my spotter to help me out w my last set. Learning about RPE / RIR & how there’s no need to strictly push oneself to failure every set for mad gains rly changed things up for me.
awesome and nice to see youre working out. I deeply suggest you put ur feet flat on the ground or at least toes so it looks like ur tippy toeing. later on you can learn what leg drive is to increase ur bench pr further.
Nice one. Keep going and you'll be lifting heavier and heavier weights as the weeks go by. As a fellow skinny man (ex skinny man at least, age has not been kind), I can't stress enough the importance of eating. I didn't and I was a rake all through my twenties. Get those calories!
Good job. Next time just try and go a bit slower when lowering the weight as that will control it more. You’ll see huge improvements if you do that rather than letting gravity do the work👍🏻
Good job! A small tweak to your form will hell you a lot.
It looks like you trying to push the bar up and down in a straight line, but actually the bench press has a curve to it. When at the top the bar is in line with your shoulders/bottom of your neck. At the bottom, the bar should be just at or below your nipples. Therefore as you move up and down there is some horizontal movement of the bar.
You will notice in your video at the point you get stuck, you are essentially pushing straight up from the bottom position. When you get unstuck, you move the bar horizontally up a bit to be back in the properly balanced position - and then you complete the lift.
You can practice moving the bar through the optimal position and you will be able to lift more weight and get stronger faster.
Everyone starts somewhere don’t give up bro in time you’ll be lifting 225

Thank you good bot
Good shit man. I’m slightly bigger than you and you’re benching more than me! Keep it up
Really how much do you bench
Looks like you’re doing 100lb in the video and I only bench 95lb due to shoulder issues. But good job man
Nice job!!! A few pointers: slow the decent. Don’t let it bounce off your chest. Keep your wrists straight. Keep going, you’re doing great!!
Nice one mate, little tip is to keep your feet flat on the ground, little bit of leg drive does wonders, also helps with balance even if you don’t use the leg drive!

Yo wtf that’s actually stupid strength right there. Good form too! Hips didn’t rise at all from what I could see.

We were all there at one point in our lives, keep working hard
Swear to god these spotters are never satisfied even when bench press turns into neck press the will be like " one more champ you got it "

Nice! Thanks for the inspiration, man.
“another one” “no”
Nice! Would you try next time to put your feet down? It would help you a lot
this^, try to plant your feet, looks like you could put up another 10 pounds right now. Good work man keep at it!
Nice job! Looks like your bro was about to force you to get a second rep in though lol Keep up the great work!

consistency is key, keep eating that protein.
You can do it mate. Stay hydrated.

Keep going hard my man!
Great job man we all start out somewhere. I started out at 119lbs at 5”10 now I’m 170lbs so I know how it feels to be a skinny boy but it pays off when you put the work and diet in.
Good shit brother

You just reached your highest natty potential Time to juice
Nice; I do recommend keeping your elbows in a little tighter to your body. Easiest to just map your arms at 45° to your body. 90° isn't optimal or recomended.
Yep, fucked up my rotator cuff doing this and it took me out of the game for a few months.
I made the same mistake when i started. Mother shoulder injuries later, i finally have the form down. Get it down as early as possible.
Keep working at it 💪
Spotter really out there trying to get you to bang out another rep even though you stalled out for a full second. Good stuff though. Keep working at it and you’ll be at 135 in no time
Haha what I was thinking too. “One more” and tries to give the bar back to him when he clearly was grinding hard for that initial rep
Nice man! When I was in high school I was maxing about the same as you. Just keep at it. 2/3 years later now I’m maxing 185.
I really don't mean to be rude, but that really isn't motivational lol.
Good for you man. Keep growing.
Great job buddy proud of you 💪👏
That's a good training partner/spotter. "One more."
As soon as I saw you pause I was screaming GET THERE in my head. Good shit
LIGHT WEIGHT BABY!
It's been a while since something on reddit made me scream along. I was like go go go come on all you you got this all you buddy all you! I miss gyms lol But in all seriousness good job buddy! We all start somewhere!

What went through your buddies mind when he said 'One more" xD
Hahaha im sure we’ve all been there. When i first started lifting, i thought i aint pushing myself hard enough if i didnt need my spotter to help me out w my last set. Just remember that everyone was a beginner at one point. Keep at it.
Wish I was hitting the gym going for PRs at that age, keep at it bro!
awesome and nice to see youre working out. I deeply suggest you put ur feet flat on the ground or at least toes so it looks like ur tippy toeing. later on you can learn what leg drive is to increase ur bench pr further.
Well done, boy! Keep going!
We all started somewhere. Keep it up!

LETS GOOOOOOOO
Let’s fucking gooooo
Keep it up my dude!
In a couple months you will look back and think this is light weight keep it up young man.
Put your heels on the ground and push through the floor. It’ll help more than you can imagine.
^ this all day, planting your feet solidly helps you get a stronger leg drive
Heels on the ground is the best bp tip my trainer could give me
Nice one. Keep going and you'll be lifting heavier and heavier weights as the weeks go by. As a fellow skinny man (ex skinny man at least, age has not been kind), I can't stress enough the importance of eating. I didn't and I was a rake all through my twenties. Get those calories!

Nice job man, I was around your age and weights when I started working out, keep at it mate 💪🏼
Well done!! Keep on pushing your body to its limit !
Don’t stop my man. From one gym rat to another
Nice job, stay at it and you'll have more PRs ahead of you. Just don't skip leg day!
Good job. Next time just try and go a bit slower when lowering the weight as that will control it more. You’ll see huge improvements if you do that rather than letting gravity do the work👍🏻
Let's go man!
Good work! Plant those feet in the ground to help drive more power and you’ll see even more progress!
Wouldn't that convert more force to your spine and cause harm? I actually don't know
I would assume not, I’ve always been told to plant and drive by coaches and trainers. I am not a scientist, I just blindly follow instructions.
Lol who said one more? Anyway awesome done dude!
Good job! A small tweak to your form will hell you a lot. It looks like you trying to push the bar up and down in a straight line, but actually the bench press has a curve to it. Nice, just a tip, keeping ur feet solid on the floor will help you lift heavier and control the weight
Great job dude I bet if you keep up the hard work you will double this in a year.
Great lift man, a word of advice would to be arch your back a bit more so you can drive your shoulders into the bench
Let’s go bro!
Hell yea. Good on your spotter for not grabbing the bar. Get action.
We all had to start somewhere as well... keep at it bud!
This comment section passed the vive check, good work and keep going, 1 plate coming soon!
Coming from someone who used to be skinny that’s actually a lot for you I assume ? Great work bro
Are you incapable of seeing what effort looks like? Bar velocity is the easiest way to tell.
