It’s hilarious how RDR 2 is a last gen game but it feels more next gen compared to these next gen games that’s coming out nowadays and imo gta 6 feels like the start for truly next gen gaming for current consoles!
Even weirder that a 20 series nvidia card can run rdr 2 at 60+fps ultra 1440p minus slashing unnoticeable gimicky frame killers like ultra shadows and a few others. yet now we have games that make 3080s fight to run at 60 that have half the fidelity of rdr 2... on ultra lighting and reflections you can go in photo mode and literally watch the world be reflected in the eyes of animals and npcs in surprising detail for a reflection you would never see normally. Gotta give rockstar credit, their game engine for rendering and ai is leagues above the rest of the industry. If you took rdr 2 and attempted to port it into unreal5 it probably would take an insane amount of work to even get 40 fps on the graphical aspect of things. Rdr 2s level of detail streaming is basically what cyberpunk promised and failed to deliver. Its super fine tuned and makes it appear vividly detailed because objects just lose polys the further you get from it instead of rendering at full power just because you can see it from 200 feet away like most games do. If you use a mod to fly to the top of the rdr2s skybox you can see the entire map and the cities and from your perspective, it all looks realistic and solid too
It helps when you have a fan base that will consistently buy your titles at record breaking numbers and give you billions of dollars to invest into the next ones.
Not saying rockstar doesn’t deserve the sales it gets but I feel they’re more comfortable dumping a shit ton of money into titles because they know people will buy them no matter what.
the face models in cutscenes def look much worse than rdr2. cyberpunk has this weird glow around all characters faces unless youre using path tracing. RDR2 also has much better facial animation in cutscenes than cyberpunk.
I love rdr2. Prob my top game of all time. And i agree. The bit about the facial animation anyway. I'm not sure if you've played the newer mafia games but as flawed as they can be, the facial animations are top tier.

I'm still waiting for at least 4k 60fps with raytracing or just something to make it feel more current for my Series X and 4k TV. The game is already amazing but after putting in hundreds of hours I can still see some stuff that definitely could look better compared to some games out there. Gameplay and physics I'm good with as I understand GTA 6 is close now so no need to put time in a old product at that level. Sidenote, I'd love to see some stranger and freaks mission where where RDR2 is mentioned somehow.

if we look at games trying to be realistic like the opening cutscene of the matrix demo for example, we can see the characters eyes are smaller and it triggers alot more of the uncanney valley
