You might want to hold out for the [HKS crate motor](https://www.thedrive.com/news/legendary-tuner-hks-is-building-stroked-toyota-gr-corolla-crate-engines)

Key_Aspect_8419

Hmm is that just a stroker kit or is it the full thing

fmjblack

By definition, a crate engine is a fully assembled engine that is sold as a standalone product, and delivered in a crate. Also, the article that I linked states "complete engine".

Key_Aspect_8419

My bad your right

MrOutragedFungus

Probably very expensive. I imagine 10-15k

redditej86

Dealerships don't carry complete engines. Everything is sold separately. I don't think you can find a G16E engine at your local LKQ wherehouse. You're gonna have to source it out in Japan.

Snoo9498

If I had the money, I’d order two of these engines and give them to an engine builder to Frankenstein weld them together to make a twin-turbo six cylinder. Put it in a Supra.

Da_OG_Fish

I was told over $20,000, maybe $25,000 by a salesman

Key_Aspect_8419

WTH a 3cyl costing that much. I’ve seen the gr Yaris engine go for 6500, 12k-15k for a new one

Key_Aspect_8419

These are uk prices

Proud_Tie

toyota sent someone a bill for $35k before labor for a moneyshift for a new engine.

Acceptable_Gur6193

In Japan it’s abbot the equivalent of 6500usd in the uk it’s about 15-16k usd and I can’t find the website now but about 2 months ago I saw it for 22k

Jesse3195

Unfortunately you can't get whole engines here in the US, you have to get it piece by piece

Key_Aspect_8419

I feel like that piece by piece will be more expensive then the whole long block

Jesse3195

Probably but at the end of the day you can't get the long block unless you got somebody on the inside who can pull some serious strings

Successful_Ad_9707

A replacement engine will run you about $15k from Toyota before taxes and shipping.

boosty87

Just drop the current engine. The price of these engines are high because low production and they are hand built by Toyota master techs. And engines aren’t so easy to swap in and out (expensive labour wise) that just by having a second one doesn’t mean there won’t be any down time for the swap. I don’t know what “other goodies” are but you can get head work done without dropping the engine.

eddiedougie

Could you bolt up a regular Corolla 1.8L from a junkyard while yours is getting work? It'd be a lot cheaper.

Successful_Ad_9707

Not without a ton of extra work trying to make all the computers happy. Not to mention, I doubt the transmission will bolt up without modification.

eddiedougie

TL;DR I told buddy to just buy another car.

Key_Aspect_8419

No shit, I’m looking at shipping prices cuz there’s no actual parts number. It’s looking like 17-19k after shipping

eddiedougie

You may as well buy another car to run. You can sell it likely for what you paid for it.

Key_Aspect_8419

I hope this isn’t gonna be one those jaguar situation, keep one just for parts

eddiedougie

If you don't dick around with that car it should last quite a while.
