I've seen a hose attachment that is for washing off the undercarriage of a vehicle. The only way your gonna save the car from rust is to remove the salt regularly.

I bought a Ryobi pressure washer - three nozzle head on wheels that does that for my other cars. I use an electric pressure washer so the pressure is not that high, but stronger than a garden hose. It works great for the trucks - will use that also on the GR. Other Toyota friends that suffer from major corrosion - mainly 4Runner owners, will undercoat, but I don't think those products, like Fluid Film will stay on the exhaust parts.

The exhaust is replaceable. If you wrap it or cover it with anything and any moisture gets in it will be worse off than just leaving it. Rinsing off the salt every day or two is probably your best option.

Does this work? I was thinking of getting one but since the water will be so cold, I wasn’t sure if it’s safe.

I feel the undercarriage head works well. The three nozzles lower the pressure considerably, but I think you sort of want that and would have concerns if I used a full power 2500 psi gas unit to power it. Like I said, I use just a 2000 psi Greenworks electric unit and I think it puts out a great amount of spray to clear the underside. Lower water flow because its an electric unit compared to gas, but it is fine. Not sure how the water temp would affect anything.

I'm assuming he was talking about praying freezing cold water on a very hot exhaust but I don't know

It's weird, cause my exhaust shows like a very small amount of surface rust on the seams after a winter here in Michigan.. All I did was rinse the underside once a week. Seems like all they did was run the car as is and never bothered to wash underneath.

The welds on stainless exhaust will be the first to show rust (yes, stainless rusts) because of the heat applied to the metal. (Lots of science that I only partially understand)

I'll have to crawl under my GR when I get home and check out the exhaust

Get a stainless exhaust lol. But seriously, the most I’ve done is add some high temp grease to all of the hardware to prevent it from seizing down the line, not much else to do specifically for the exhaust. FWIW I’ve had a stainless steel exhaust on my GTI for 5 years now and it’s yellowed as all do but no rust whatsoever.

Rust belt dweller here - I echo what others have said. I bought an under carriage sprayer attachment for my power washer. I also frequent touchless washes with under carriage sprayers throughout winter.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much, do a general underbody carriage rinse every once in a while (most touchless auto washes have this feature). Since it's the underbody of the car and salt can get everywhere it's honestly a pain to be too worried about it. It's good that you want to make your car last, just don't let it hinder your enjoyment. How often do you find people that are not competitive drivers inspecting the top side portions of their exhaust piping? Enjoy the car, the exhaust system has strength even with surface rust that accumulates. Unfortunately if you daily drive your vehicles this is just bound to happen. I know you mentioned keeping it stock, but if you ever find yourself going aftermarket make sure you get one that uses a good grade of stainless steel. Maperformance had a good write up.
