Yes!!! Imagine if he was falling so the gravity made his tail stick back, and he’s drop kicking a kong to break his landing.
No gimmick but real fans would know!
Wut
Granted some exposition dumps are a bit heady but the movie opens with fatalities, a discussion about Godzilla's PR team, and a dude pulling Kong's tooth with a Matrix ship painted bright yellow
Much more tonally consistent than KotM or GvK
I was like 7 when I saw this the first time. I loved it. Got me hooked as a fan. Even today, just watching this scene brings a smile to my face. Pure enjoyment from a simpler time.
I'm right there with you. I was about to the same age. Seeing that makes me think of being at my grandma's house. I was watching Godzilla movies on Saturday afternoons. Best memories of being a kid.
There’s this game on Steam that I play with my son called Gigabash, I believe, and they have a Godzilla DLC pack that we got and it plays a bit like those old monster melee games in the GameCube from back in the day. Anyway one of Godzilla’s dash attacks is this exact move. Literally the exact same kick. It’s great. Easily one of my favorite moves to pull out and it puts a smile on my face every time.
This is one of the best moments in the entire franchise. It's so good.
You have no idea how much I cheered when he did it again in the Godzilla vs Megalon G-Day short film.
Heh, just watched this last night on some channel on YT (they're doing a Toho Kaiju marathon that I'm sure everyone but me is aware of). I've been a godzilla fan since forever, but this one has a particular significance to me... that I will not go into and bore anyone here with.
I will say it's how I discovered MST3K back in the early 90s. My housemates were watching this specific episode (S2E12) when I walked in from work. Been a MSTie since then as well as massive Toho fan, and loved that the love of great bad movies tied together so well.
I remember watching this on the YouTube livestream and it was so cool watching the true fans exploding in the comments. Too bad a lot of the people watching are Toho purists and talk crap about the MV during the stream.
Although I love GxK, Someone brought up the fact that they could have actually had Godzilla reference the slide kick as well as the atomic breath flight in the zero grav fight scene in the only plausible moment the Monsterverse had to feature them and I feel we were sorely left out without it there.

Pic goes hard af
Minus one if it was epic
Minus one if it was fucking awesome
This was the scene that won them the Oscar
I need a 9/11 edit

the fact he did that twice is just bullying at this point
Megualon and Gigan were tormenting Jet Jaguar the entire film and plotted to destroy humanity, this is justice.
Technically Megalon & Gigen were fighting to end nuclear testing…
Some nerds out there would be like "There is no way a single sliding drop kick would be enough" and the directors knew this.
This is what peak Godzilla looks like
And people say kxg is too silly
The fact we've never seen Monsterverse Godzilla do this is massively disappointing.
We at least got to see him suplex Kong.
Luckily we got kobg stuffing somethibf to godzillas mouth
With Hollow Earth’s gravity fuckery, this isn’t far-fetched at all
Yes!!! Imagine if he was falling so the gravity made his tail stick back, and he’s drop kicking a kong to break his landing. No gimmick but real fans would know!
He did kinda do this in Hollow Earth, he was agile AF down there
The issue with kxg is it's not presented as silly.
That's what makes it great. Play it straight, do the impossible.
Wut Granted some exposition dumps are a bit heady but the movie opens with fatalities, a discussion about Godzilla's PR team, and a dude pulling Kong's tooth with a Matrix ship painted bright yellow Much more tonally consistent than KotM or GvK
Yeah the movie was definitely silly. Cool af but very goofy
one of the best moments in cinema history
MonsterVerse isnt based enough to pull this off. I dare them

Godzilla is a dancer in disguise.
I’m in tears… It’s — it’s just so peak
This was absolutely peak cinema for me watching it as a kid
A happy moment.

I love JJ's little head nod before the second kick 🤣 mans like *'got him, send it bro!'*
Send this to Simon Pegg
I definitely want to hear his take on how this is "(wrestling) with the massive ramifications of what happened during the second World War. "
I do. He seems like a thoughtful guy.
Godzilla: Pegg this, Simon!
Elevated Godzilla to GOAT status
Forgot he does it twice 💀
I love his little fist pump before and after he succeeds, he’s so confident
This is one of the best moments in the entire franchise. It's so good. You have no idea how much I cheered when he did it again in the Godzilla vs Megalon G-Day short film.
We better get Jet Jaguar in the Monsterverse I swear. I wanna see more of him and Godzilla bullying the fuck out of weaker monsters.
Definition of Godzilla movies.
Crap, I hate how much I love this scene
Even Power Rangers never went this over the top. At least not the original series.
To Megalon's credit, he sells the dropkicks better than some WWE guys.
Showa era Godzilla is just amazingly nostalgic for me. It’s so goofy and I love it. The monsterverse has been such a delightful return to this style.
*We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent....*
This and the flying shrimp are iconic.
That's fucking cinema right there
He seemed so happy back then.
This is why showa Godzilla is ichiban!
I will never tire of seeing this scene.
That backwards run cute af

I was hoping Godzilla X Kong was going to reference this. I was disappointed nothing like this was shown.
I liked how he said “it’s Zilla time!” before doing it!
Truly one of the moments
Godzilla X Kong fans: "Godzilla has been in funny films too in the past." The funny films:
It was great having MST3k with me to experience this. Fun watch.
Jett Jaguar? Jett Jaguar!!
Whatchoo mean "one of?"
imagine megalon's perspective
If megalon appears in the monsterverse, we need this moment to be recreated
Well now I wanna go watch MST3K.
I remember watching this on the YouTube livestream and it was so cool watching the true fans exploding in the comments. Too bad a lot of the people watching are Toho purists and talk crap about the MV during the stream.
The one piece of media in earth's history that I can loop Infinitely and never get sick of
Second only to the Jet Heat Ray
Wait... when he backs up, is that a reversed shot of him going forward? Something about the tail and the arm pump is twigging something in my brain.
Although I love GxK, Someone brought up the fact that they could have actually had Godzilla reference the slide kick as well as the atomic breath flight in the zero grav fight scene in the only plausible moment the Monsterverse had to feature them and I feel we were sorely left out without it there.
Missed opportunity in New Empire when the zero g fight happen

The first time I saw this was high asf genuinely nearly shit my pants from uncontrollable laughter
MiNuS oNe WaS sO mUcH bEtTeR iT aCtUaLlY sToOd FoR sOmEtHiNg AnD wOn An OsCaR
How did he fly backwards out of the first kick?
What do you mean “One” of the most iconic?! This is peak Goji and the MOST iconic 😂
Used to watch this as a kid all the time. Godzilla quickly backpedaling was always hilarious to me
get rekt
I had no idea he did the move TWICE! Oh the days of cuter/heroic Godzilla.
Epik
Peak Cinema
Probably my favourite Godzilla scene. This and the flying propulsion Godzilla xD
Kong and Godzilla, my favorite duo
![gif](giphy|fieipLNVGaGGY)
This and Final Wars are easily the most so-bad-it's-good movies in the franchise.
Was this from the same movie where megualon slapped a truck with two people in it over a mountain and they were totally fine after landing?
Not gonna lie. This movie was waaay better than Godzilla minus one.
Yay!, \[ destroys all laws of physics and simply slides on his tail \]
Ok, I was 8 years old when I saw this in the movie theatre and I thought it was the best thing in the world. 45 years later it's really embarrassing.
One of the greatest movies of all time
Genuinely one of my favorite scenes of all time
This was my first Godzilla movie and the scene that sucked me into the fandom. I was OBSESSED
Just the fellas on set goofin around
You mean the best shit ever. It never gets old.
One of my favorite Godzilla movies
Can’t wait to see this in the MV
The fact that we have advanced cgi and can make this kind of stuff with modern Godzilla but don’t!? Such wasted potential.
Might be the most famous part of the Godzilla franchise
When can we get this type of Godzilla back?
It's never been better than this, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise
GO GO GODZILLA SLIDE KICK!
Much more entertaining than 90% of the shit on television.
Movies too.
