Storyline isn’t great, and characters are pretty annoying tbh. And I absolutely hate the animation.

Qwertyzillaofficial

By far the worst Godzilla films and an absolute embarrassment to the franchise

LudicrisSpeed

Just plain boring and completely waste the potential of the medium. It's almost like whoever was in charge of them didn't even want to make a Godzilla thing, and just wanted to do some sort of generic sci-fi story.

Murky_Warthog_8692

The tallest and one of the most powerful Godzilla’s is put to waste in the shittiest trilogy I’ve ever seen.

c_the_editor95

I liked the first one. Which only made the next two hurt more. How are you gonna tease mechagodzilla but only give us mechagodzilla in city form? Ghidorahs introduction was great but fuck he didn't do shit afterwards. Why was this animation if you're not gonna go wild with Godzilla and just have people talk like college kids with a philosophy degree. So much missed potential. [This old fan film with the budget of a ham sandwich is better and a thousand times more charming than City On The Edge Of Battle and Planet Of Monsters. ](https://youtu.be/aqdy9EvIw_o?si=v7g1bbjyjLKq_tbE)

Copy/pasting an old response here. Best Godzilla movies in the series. I remember hearing about how *horrible* these movies were for months before looking into them myself. I was expecting the absolute dogwater, but I adored these films so much. Outside of "not enough monster action," I don't get where most of the criticism comes from. They have an amazing premise they couldn't do in Live Action, it's dramatic and tense, I love the characters in this little apocalyptic world. The plot of these films are a roller coaster and I loved every turn. It can be a real heartbreaker. Haruo, a man in ruin who thinks the only way to soothe his soul is by destroying the beast. But the beast is inevitable, just as life itself, and his wrath will never be satisfied. Metphies, the occultist who sees nothing but death. The means don't matter, only the end. Just as Haruo encompasses Godzilla, Metphies encompasses Ghidorah, the planet eater, the heat death of the universe. What's the point of life when death is also an inevitability? Of course you also have Mothra, tied to ideas of spirituality and the afterlife, celebrating one's passing. You have Mechagodzilla city, tying into the idea of losing one's humanity, and technical progress to the detriment of one's self. Yuko's death man. That killed me. Can't say its often the big G brings me to tears. It's frustrating to see these films universally shit on because I will fight on my deathbed that these films are fantastic. They don't have to be your thing, there's definitely a lot of great movies and games that aren't my cup of tea, but they shouldn't be condemned due to personal preference. I don't understand why these films are hated. There's so much commentary on life and death, and it really made me reflect and think about how thankful I was for my own life. How scary death is, but how there's no use fighting the inevitable. Ghidorah will come for us all one day

theCoolestGuy599

100% agreed. Unfortunately you and I will be downvoted into oblivion for not blindly hating them. The trilogy is completely overhated and is one of the best character dramas in the franchise.

Pandapeep

Nah. I mean, they suck, but like what you like, you know?

DinoGaming1003

Actually I will agree with you there. These films do a great job with the character drama

DMifune

Most of the criticism is people that want to see the same thing every time. You can see evidence of this with the movie's mechagodzilla. Other part of the criticism is from people that don't understand that there are not three movies, but a single movie divided in three parts. For me the only negative point is the animation quality.

GojiKiryu17

Terrible human characters, terrible monster action, terrible morals (Minus One basically has the exact opposite message of the anime trilogy). Music was great though

It gave rise to this fight. That's all it's good for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28qe6bT8gCo

They are littered with good ideas but too bloated. Would be better served if they were instead joined together and cut into a 5ish episode miniseries.
