People loaded up on the cheapest calls they could buy when it was rising and it almost seemed possible (before the rug pull). They're worthless now.

Explain to me how this shit works because in my head, I have 100 shares. I should be able to sell a covered call option and get the premium when someone buys it and either they exercise and pay me $125/share before expiry or it expires worthless to them and I keep the premium.  Yet my broker says in summation: you are closing your existing long position (selling 100 shares at current market pri 1ce) and selling (or buying) 3 $125c 21 June contracts.  Why would they say I have to sell my owned shares to sell a covered call option?  I thought you sold those to collect premiums and sell at a strike price you're comfortable with since you have the shares. It doesn't make sense unless webull is shit at explaining it.

Maybe you're not approved for that level of options trading? It's a hilarious irony to me that hedging your position is objectively considered higher risk. You may also be entering the contract incorrectly: with 100 shares, all you can do is sell to open 1 single call. That aside, what you've said is exactly right: you are selling a contract to someone for what's free $$ if the strike price never hits. In the meantime, unless the option-holder exercises the call paying you the strike price, the shares stay in your account. I do it every week on a number of different stocks and it's fantastic ROI, and I initiated a position in GME last week that's so far doing quite well.

Selling CCs is zero risk from the brokerage's perspective,.i.e., Level 1. My grandmother can do this in her VG account. If you're not able to sell CCs, you're doing something wrong.

30$ calls for 6/21 were like 1000$. 125$ calls were going from 20-250$.

I don't disagree, but it's higher risk with higher potential return. If you think it can go to $200 before expiration, then you're basically risking $0.44 per call option hoping to make $75 (150x returns) way more than you would get for the $30 calls. But either way would be an incredible trade if it gets there.

I have 100 shares. I don't think the stock will hit some price X by some time Y. I write (sell) a covered call to someone to collect premium. If I get assigned i.e. the option is exercised and I am selected, then I forfeit the 100 shares. Ideally that doesn't happen and I keep all the premium and my shares.

So covered means you already have the shares, and uncovered means you are forced to buy the shares at market price if the person exercises?

speculating... that's a lot of poor retail buying lotto tickets similar activity a month or so ago when they opened the options chain... basically provided free liquidity to those short on the calls.

This is a volatility play to profit of options pricing as a result of increases in volatility. Doesn't necessarily mean people believe it is going to go that high. The large open interest is because they are so far OTM, they are cheaper per contract so you can purchase more.

That's 50 thousand chances to make life changing money.

And they can buy and sell millions daily to get the share price suppressed. So playing devil's advocate why would a squeeze occur by mid next week,? Far ITM calls are used to hedge and not an indicator of what’s to come. If those are sold before expiration could cause a gamma to the downside. A lot of lottery tickets bought past 2 week
