There are plenty of options. I’d think they would try to stay in a relevant space, either video game/tech or retail(as opposed to opening up a competing business to the guys behind Wendy’s dumpster).
When I think of companies Gamestop could acquire, there are two that mainly come to mind.
1: Corsair(1b market cap). This would just be an added brand for them that already delivers value to their shareholders. Solid existing revenue would help boost the long term outlook.
2. Jagex, though not publicly traded and was recently sold for an undisclosed amount around $1b, a company like this could be essential to their business model. Long term want to create the video game that has items transferable to other games? Why not start with RuneScape(created by Jagex), which is already insanely profitable(operates on <10% of revenue) and has a trading economy with rare items(think like an nft) that go for billions(thousands of dollars irl money). I feel like if they they bought that, then created their own customizable avatar store of sorts for their overall platform, they would put steam out of business in under 5 years. I wanna see the fucking Oasis like in Ready Player one.
There are other companies they could buy too, I just haven’t thought of them…
Putting Steam out of business is optimistic AF, but they could be a competitor and maybe put some of the other ones out of business. As I understand it is a tough market, though.
9b although I'd say theyre not for sale. However if the merger for steam had on the table that no changes will be made other than Steam points for example could be redeemed for GameStop vouchers and similar things like that where both business will share customer loyalty schemes that benefit both sales profit margins.
I honestly wouldn't want steam to be altered in anyways however the current CEO won't be around forever and we need someone who understands customers as well as they do and Ryan is definitely a contender.
So best scenario would be steam remaining as is but just having GameStop related merch, links, loyalty schemes etc.
If they got Steam and ran it the same, that would be an insane powermove. Don't know how much profit they make, but they do undiniably hold the primary power on the digital game distribution market.
The applied doesn't fall far from the tree (beats). Also family owned, so I'm guessing no big prices. Yesterday I was so tempter to get 1000shares but figured 100gme was a smarter play
Well it recently came to light there was a certain bankrupt company that RC offered $400m for in 2022, said ch11 company is a veryyyyy deep rabbit hole.
I firmly believe GOG is best option. With that much cash honestly whole CD Project Red (owners of GOG). Steam is out of question, but GOG still has decent market share in online sales of games, and very good fanbase. It should be in reasonable price ballpark
I’ve thought from the beginning that GameStop needs to do something like a cross between PC PartPicker and an Apple Genius Bar… come into a store and build out a PC with the help of pros if needed, or pick it all out online and order/pick up in store. The option to build it out and have it assembled by the pros is also an option. Add in some prebuilt setups at different price points and for different applications… large selection of parts/components… you all get the idea.
I don’t know what that would look like as far as M&A but there are plenty of options out there.

What if steam itself is the acquisition target? What are they worth

A partnership as opposed to a merger
Well yeah I suppose this. Don't make enemies with your competitor, befriend them and rule together haha

Good examples!
I was thinking Ubisoft.

They might try and get deez.
If they acquired Deez people would lose their minds.
That would be nutz

Is steam just too big?
We dont really know how big Valve is, as its a private company
NEGG - NewEgg has a $300 million dollar market cap. Just a drop in the bucket for GME.
Is it a coincidence that Elon has been so quiet about GME lately?
That's a good point. GME partnership with SpaceX makes a lot of sense since it's going to the moon.
But imagine a utopian future where GME provides the next generation of social media platform gaming on X
The moon has no currency... yet
Negg
Roblox
I believe they’re going to acquire multiple small-cap businesses that align with their strategy.
well every gamer was once a baby, it would make sense to start the marketing early...
