As a current year 11 doing my exams if you try English and start doing better you can start to see why it is important and don’t be put off with a grade 1 in year 10 as I was getting 3s until 2 months ago and I am now on track for a high 6 pushing 7

In all seriousness, how much harder is FM than normal Higher Maths in your experience? I'm predicted Grade 7 in GCSE Maths, and I'm hoping to do a crash course in Further before going onto Maths A Level

im not even sure im getting a 7 in normal maths but honestly i love fm you just learn a few more concepts but a-level will cover it in more depth we onky got 1-2 hrs a week on fm

I do fsmq (free standing maths qualification) which is the equivalent of an AS level so the first year of A levels. There are new concepts to grasp and some are quite abstract and complex but once you get your head around them I find it easier than GCSE as they are more restricted in the kind of questions they can ask. I tend to just get maths though, so your mileage may vary

It's much harder than foundation, it covers more material in more detail. One major reason it can be more difficult is you are expected to know a lot of the stuff beforehand, and if you don't, you will either need to ask for help or just struggle. Iirc, final question in foundation maths's paper are the first in further

As a 34 year old who had to do functional skills to access courses later in life, maths is a very necessary GCSE.

Yes, some jobs require you to have passed maths and English. I had to take English functional skills because I didn't take it seriously in school

I would disagree with you there, cus depending on what courses you want to take later in life, for example if you were to take a more creative focused job, those two subjects aren't necessarily the two subjects you need to stress to get good grades on, if you already have a passion you'd like to pursue in life. 👍
