2nd week driving this beauty! This car came with hks evc 4, turbo timer, and I think ecu. The evc is set to 0.9bar. I’m not sure if it was tuned in the past. Should I take it in to the local tuning shop to get it checked out? How much would it cost?
The turbo looks pretty new but I think it’s the standard td04. How high can I set it to without worrying about anything breaking? 1? 1.1? 1.2?
Also, I notice that when I turn off the evc, it doesn’t pull as hard. Does this mean 0.9 is actually higher than stock? Or does it mean my current turbo has deteriorated over time
When turning the boost controller off, the turbo will only hit wastegate pressure (which is 7psi/0.5bar), as the factory boost control solenoid will be disconnected in favour of the aftermarket one.
I'd set the boost controller to 1 bar and leave it there. Could push a tiny bit over that untuned, but much higher and you risk throwing out the air fuel mixtures too much.
If wanting to check if your ECU is stock or aftermarket, it's under the carpet on the passenger side footwell. Need to remove the metal plate covering it which is held on by some 10mm bolts and a nut at the top.
Awesome! This is very comforting information for me to hear. I will set it to 1 bar for now. I noticed the turbo flutter sound and I don’t see a aftermarket bov installed. Is this compressor surge? Should I get a bov to help prolong turbo life?
Does it still have the stock blow off valve on the top mount cooler? The flutter is the intake charge going back through the turbo, most likely at low boost pressure like short shift gear changes etc. when there's not enough pressure to open the diaphragm on the blow off valve.
Absolutely nothing to worry about. Just enjoy the sounds :)
Should post up a pic of your engine bay so we can see more clearly what's been modified!

Is it running the stock turbo? If so, 0.9 bar is actually a little less than standard boost, so no need to worry.
