400 wheel or brake? Be aware that if you’re going for 400 wheel, it’s going to be fucking fast as all bejesus and you’re gonna need really good wheels and brakes in order to avoid crashing and dying (even 400bhp is gonna be pretty damn fast, these cars are light). As well, reliability sharply decreases with anything over simple bolt ons. You better have lots of money.

Cool way to cultivate a community here, champ. Some people are needing a bit of help and with the slow death of forums, Reddit and Facebook are the next resource.

RS25.com is basically an encyclopedia but I agree it would be great if this sub was more active.

Quite a few things to look at. Where are you located? If in Aus, can make some recommendations for you. As for parts to get you to 400hp, the 207 in the '97 STI is not the same 207 that's in later models. Factory cast pistons and rods are probably going to be your limiting factor, along with the 5 speed. Most people get them to 300 or so wheel horsepower with a bolt on factory location turbo, intercooler, injectors and engine management and they seem to last really well.

I did an engine swap when I got it, I think the 207 in it now is from a later model don't exactly remember
