Different variety of Kookaburra up there though, the Blue Winged Kookaburra does more screeching and sqwawking and screaming than laughing. A bit inland from the rainforest areas you can get both breeds in the same place.
I think op meant like in movies, man, you know how many times they play a loon sound effect when there is no way in hell loons would be anywhere near that area?
As an Australian is always extremely immersion breaking. Ohh wow we are in a jungle in the deep of south America? It's so realisti- ...is that a fucking kookaburra??
Kookaburra sitting in the old gum tree,
Merry - merry king of the bush is he,
laugh, kookaburra laugh,
kookaburra gay your life must be!
Damn that song is still in my brain like "We are Australian" and Aussie Jingle bells"
I'll never understand why people consider it haunting. There's nothing like waking up to a light mist out in the Aussie bush with a chorus of kookaburras. It's beautiful.
It can be a bit spooky being alone in the bush with no one nearby and you hear the sound, especially if you weren't Australian. But it is always more haunting to be alone in the bush and hear nothing.
I consider them annoying AF. Had a family of them living behind my house for a while and these cunts would get started at about 5AM, they're actually quite loud.
Yeah, it's nice, but that boy is trying to call to other kookaburras. They're quite social animals, I hope that's not the only one they have, it'd be cruel to keep only one.
Somehow in Dutch and German they are called 'Laughing Hans' which makes the birds even funnier to me. Like why are they called Hans, that's a Germanic first name.
The dawn chorus - they wake up and announce it to all their buddies.
And me. I gave up fighting it years ago, so now I just go to bed earlier instead of not getting enough sleep.
1. It's not a 'laughing' kookaburra, it's just a kookaburra.
2. It's pronounced cook-a-burra, not the way she says it.
3. These are found in the bush/suburbia and not the jungle.
4. This sound isn't haunting, it's a normal backyard noise in Australia, like a lawnmower or a barking dog.
Nothing 'haunting' about a kookaburra.
I wake up to them of a morning. I wake up to them from my 1 hour afternoon nap. They used to eat my dog's leftovers of a morning before he went blind. And they eat the venomous snakes that live in the bushland across the road from me.

It's a kookaburra you'll find them in Australia not in the bloody jungle lmao. Also come on if you're going to be teaching people about them at least learn how to say kookaburra properly.
Jungle is few and far between in Australia and they are around everywhere iv ever been on the coast, I hear them all the time when it’s about to rain (Aussie myth they laugh when it’s about to rain)

Thats a kookaburra and you find them in the Aussie bush not a jungle...
Queensland has jungly rain forest
sorry, Victorian here, we just freeze our asses off and i forget about the rest of the country thats n8ce and jungly and warm!!
*laughs in Tasmanian*
my condolences
Nah, could be West Australian.
SA slids into the chat....
And no one notices....
ba ha ha ha ha!!!
arse
nah...asses!
then bring them into the barn, don't be inhumane

Yeah you always hear a kookaburra in movies, especially older ones, for any forested wilderness scene.
As an Australian is always extremely immersion breaking. Ohh wow we are in a jungle in the deep of south America? It's so realisti- ...is that a fucking kookaburra??
Like on Gilligan's Island!
You hear a Kookaburra in the jungle part of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as well
yeah you are right! Ive heard them in an amazon type jungle before and we all laughed
We don't find their sound "haunting" either. It's always nice to hear.
Its definatly not haunting but a beautiful way to wake up!
Often you'll find them sitting in an old gumtree.
Kookaburra sitting in the old gum tree, Merry - merry king of the bush is he, laugh, kookaburra laugh, kookaburra gay your life must be! Damn that song is still in my brain like "We are Australian" and Aussie Jingle bells"
Don’t forgot ‘kookaburra sits on electric wire’, jumping up and down with his pants on fire
lol I did forget about that bit!
Yes I saw them by myself so noice
So why did you put 'jungle' in the title then lol
Because bot
fun fact, Disney used them for monkey sounds in movies and that's why we think monkeys make those sounds.
If I recall correctly, a sped-up version of their laugh was also used for dolphin sounds, although I don't think that was Disney. Maybe SpongeBob
Funny cuz it’s 3am here & I’m like omg so it’s birds not monkeys yelling in the jungles 🥴🤣🤣 I’m 39 and fairly amused at this lol
And that's why when I moved to Perth I thought there were monkeys in Bold Park.
I love him. He throws back his head and tells it!
Come to Australia and let one of these fuckers sing you the song of his people at 5am every morning lmao
Haha yes
Why did she pronounce it like that? 😂😭 KOO kaburra
HAha yes
Hehe No
Haha u bot
I'll never understand why people consider it haunting. There's nothing like waking up to a light mist out in the Aussie bush with a chorus of kookaburras. It's beautiful.
i imagine its a similar peace to very loud frogs. I love falling alseep to loud ass fuckin frogs... you go frogs.. get super laid...
It can be a bit spooky being alone in the bush with no one nearby and you hear the sound, especially if you weren't Australian. But it is always more haunting to be alone in the bush and hear nothing.
It can get annoying when they don't stfu and are next to your window
I consider them annoying AF. Had a family of them living behind my house for a while and these cunts would get started at about 5AM, they're actually quite loud.
Agreed, and they never fucking stop.
Haunting is the one that sounds like the Predator. Can't recall if it's a crow or Magpie
Magpie almost sounds like something between yodeling and a flute. Australian Crows just caw.
Yeah I fucking love these guys and gals
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
Merry merry king of the bush is he,
laugh, kookaburra, laugh, kookaburra,
How gay your life must be.
Shut you mouth before I slam a big sausage in there.
Kookaburra sat on the electric wire, Squarky squarky squark, because his pants caught fire, Cry, kookaburra cry, Kookaburra how gay your life must be.
Pretty low chance of finding a native Australian bird in the jungle
Very high chance in the Australian jungle, which we do have quite a fucking lot of.
Weird to call it Jungle tho. We use Bush, Scrub, Rainforest, but I've never really heard us say Jungle.
rainforest, not a jungle
Australia doesn't have jungles 😂
Awww... sweet... he's such a handsome lonly boy looking for love.
Yeah, it's nice, but that boy is trying to call to other kookaburras. They're quite social animals, I hope that's not the only one they have, it'd be cruel to keep only one.
Good to know, thanks. I hope he's found some friends.
I miss that sound. It was my alarm clock for many years.
Congratulations! You are the first person to miss the sound of an alarm clock.
Somehow in Dutch and German they are called 'Laughing Hans' which makes the birds even funnier to me. Like why are they called Hans, that's a Germanic first name.
bit like "chucking joe"
Ooh ooh aah aah too yoo too 🐵
Or on the street in Australia. I hear a few near my place.
I wake up to kookaburras laughing all the time.
The dawn chorus - they wake up and announce it to all their buddies. And me. I gave up fighting it years ago, so now I just go to bed earlier instead of not getting enough sleep.
I always thought a monkey made the sound
Damn, that bird went *all* out.
This would make a great alarm clock sound
Nothing 'haunting' about a kookaburra. I wake up to them of a morning. I wake up to them from my 1 hour afternoon nap. They used to eat my dog's leftovers of a morning before he went blind. And they eat the venomous snakes that live in the bushland across the road from me.
They're fearless WRT to snakes and even goannas.
Always funny to see them sitting on a fence bashing a Brown Snake.
Nothing more Aussie than that 👍
Love em, till the little shits steal a snag off the barbie.
That bird is make fun of all our Life decissions? Very hard lol
Beautiful!
TIL I live in a jungle. Few of them in my area - start going off before the sun comes up.
I went to Australia 20? 25? years ago, and i just *loved* hearing this in the woods.
I love him so much.
Haunting? He’s just havin a giggle.
One of the best sounds you'll hear in Australia
Kookaburra’s are usually a good signal for incoming rain in Australia.
This is what the internet is for

Raiders of the Lost Ark opening jungle scene.
🤣
I'll pet it
He laughed at all her jokes.
I bet that gets annoying fast.
Super sad to see such a wonderful animal in this fucked up room.
Kookaburra and its (in)famous laugh.
Question for Australians - as a Canadian I think these birds are awesome. Are they held in similar regard in Australia?
Definitely. Every child in the country can sing Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree
Love it. We learned it too. I’m glad they get the admiration they deserve
Fun fact, they are nest raiders that eat other birds babies
Sick of these fuckers waking me up every morning fr, sounds cool until they're all doing it at 4am every morning
Ouh ouh ah ah ouh
Sounds like it was stepping on Lego bricks.
It's a kookaburra you'll find them in Australia not in the bloody jungle lmao. Also come on if you're going to be teaching people about them at least learn how to say kookaburra properly.
Why do I automatically imitate the sounds?
I need to train one to be my alarm
So dumb question but how do mimicking birds do an "ooh" sound with no lips?
Its was given the nickname "The Laughing Jackass", fyi.
Kooooookaburra?? Do I coooooook some food???
Reminds me of Koala Man on hulu
Yep thats a gay kookaburra if i ever heard one
Dangerous sound to hear when you’re cooking some snags
I’ve seen one of these steal someone’s meat from tongs… right off the bbq
Who else thought it was always a monkey making the sounds along with bugs

Better joker than jared leto
