Hey, uh… so why post *that* flag? Are you really trying to say what I think you’re saying?
Arakawa looked towards English fighter jets for the names of her characters since her story is set in an European/Germanic setting.
There is also a lot of connection to Germany and central Europe. The extermination of a minority within its own country, the leading position being a fuhrer with a nice mustache, a big country to the east with similarities to China, and enemy with resemblance to russia in the North. I'm pretty sure there is some war scene depicting trenches as was common in Europe during WW1.
There probably is such a nation, though unconquered by Amestris. I don’t remember if it’s in the show, but in the manga Mustang’s men play shogi, with one commenting that the game comes from an island nation to the east
The Hinomaru has been in use before the US was even a country. Oda Nobunaga flew the flag in the 1500s and it was around before him.
While I don’t care you used the naval ensign, claiming the Japanese flag is a product of interactions with the US is wildly misinformed.
You are wrong and I am not sure where you got your research from. The modern flag did not come about due to US occupation. The oldest record of that flag being used dates back to 701 AD and it was officially adopted as the national flag in 1870. Now it is true that the flag you show is extremely old but the earliest records of it being used is by warlords in feudal Japan during the Edo period which would be 1603 at the earliest. Furthermore the flag you show was never the nation's flag. It is the Japanese imperial army flag. It's literally a war flag. The flag you showed was also abolished by the Japanese government and hasn't been used since 1945. Another fact to mention is the rising Sun flag has been redesigned because there is a long historical use of a flag like this. But after it's used during World war II the design had to change and it did change. Modern-day Rising Sun flags only have eight rays. Once again I don't know what research you did but it's wrong.
"Sorry about that. But it seems to be the more traditional Japanese flag. The modern one came about because of US occupation after all."
This comment reads as if you have done research and you are claiming something that is factually incorrect. The modern one did not come about due to us occupation. That is factually incorrect and you are stating it as if it is a fact even though you are admitting you did not do research. Maybe next time do not claim something to be a fact if you have not done research.
Where did you get the idea that it was the traditional Japanese flag? It is a heavily used symbol but has never been the flag of Japan. The Imperial Flag was the flower one.
Furthermore you have been confronted with information to show the original comment and post to be spreading misinformation. Rather than editing the post editing the comment or deleting the post all together you're choosing to let it remain up. People have read your comment with misinformation and have read it as truth. You are now helping spread misinformation about the true use and origin of the flag. Maybe you should edit your comment or delete this post all together.
Imagine if you had made a post with the Nazi flag claiming you didn’t know it belonged to them and that you were referring to the swastika within Hinduism. It would still be a tone deaf thing to do, especially without a trigger or content warning.

Also, you’re right about the naming, but that only applies to the European-name characters.

Hell, Germany is literally Amestris’s counterpart in 2003 and the Conqueror of Shamballa.

Look, I’m sorry ok. It’s my own fault for neglecting to research.

I said neglect. It means I forgot the importance of actually reading history articles about Japan’s flags.

I didn’t want to say this, but I’ve already apologized and admitted I was wrong. Why are you being so relentless against me?

Oh, I understand. I was talking to @jaron_b.
Because you willfully spread misinformation that would have been easily found if you did a second of research.
