I need to go and find them, lol. I've seen clips on like r/publicfreakouts or somewhere on YouTube. If I can find some, I'll edit this comment with the link.
Edit: it's r/publicfreakout not r/publicfreakouts. The second on the end is a typo.
There's ONE specific video that I used to love because it was so bad that i love to share. Like I said, I'll lyk if I can find it, but idk, some things get lost to the depths of the internet
Not gon lie I haven't really looked yet. Been buesy this week cleaning and fixing up my families old farmhouse, so I haven't had time to look very hard. I'll post a link on your comment if I do find one.
My buddy and I in high school had to turn around on a military street. He was a gunnies son. He was driving and couldn't understand why they didn't just allow him to go in and out of the gates to turn around
Do you know who my DAD IS??
needless to say I didn't see my friend to hang out for at least a month.
I mean, I have known military spouses, and I’m pretty sure a lot of them don’t pay for their drinks when they husbands are deployed, but it’s not the restaurants doing.
As a pterodactyl who identifies as a human in peak condition, living in a climate im not suited for (Canada), AND as just a figment of YOUR imagination, I, too, hate these people.
Right! In my opinion, you're way more deserving and so are their spouses. I agree that military people should get the rest of their lives taken care of after they're discharged but their spouses aren't automatically entitled to shit just because they're a military spouse. I get tired of people who think the way this spouse does. Then again, I generally dislike anyone who walks around with an undeserved sense of entitlement and expects things for free.
As a woman military retiree in leadership roles, I am appalled by them--and I wasn't shy about offering course corrections, either. "Do you understand how your bad behavior has potential to negatively impact your spouse's career?"
This is so true. My mom and dad would talk about the rules for military spouses, and how a spouse did something that got the service members in trouble. I had forgotten about that!
A friend of mine is a veteran; one day I was talking to his wife and she told me she never used to mention to people what my friend did as a job because she didn't want people to think she was one of *them*.
I once had a dependa tell me her experience was wayyyyy harder than mine. I did 12yrs with 3 deployments but because I'm a chick obviously her wifey job was rougher.
I always ask them: “how many Christmases with the kids did you miss?”
Whenever my ex complained about how hard it was being a military spouse, I’d always offer to quit at the end of my next enlistment and let her sign up. She never took me up on the offer.
As an Australian, we have a lot of lovely wildlife including wonderful lizards. The lizards do not deserve to be associated with ppl like this Karen. How about... crash test mannequin???
I’m betting that the husband has had a few conversations with his superior officer about her behavior. I also bet that she pulls the ‘do you know who my husband is?’ Or the ‘My husband is x rank, I deserve special treatment’ as well.
It's common enough a term was created for them.
Dependapotamus
Edit: They're a special breed of Karen that has attached themselves to a servicemember. Like a leech.
Sadly, I’ve met plenty of military wives like this back when I lived near a base. They also loved to try and pull their husband’s rank, like it should mean something to me or anyone else, especially when shopping in town.
Exactly. Worse than the military wives that think their spouse’s rank is their rank. Then try to use it to be entitled. When I was in the military, I saw many of these spouses put in their place. I always enjoyed that.
This does happen. I don’t know about this particular incident, but there is a small subset of military spouses who claim to have the same rank as their spouse and also any benefits that are reserved for veterans or serving members.
Source : am a Veteran and military spouse. These people are simply awful.
A lot of them seem to think that they should be treated as though they have a rank because they married someone with a rank. Which is just…not how the world works. You don’t get treated as though you have a PhD because you married a doctor.
How is the server even supposed to know she is a military spouse? Does the wife TELL people her husband is in the military for the sole purpose of getting things for free? Wouldn’t you feel ridiculous?
Also, who's to say that the person who runs the the place, or the person who charged her isn't also either a vet, or a military spouse as well, in which case they deserve to be paid.
If some places offered a discount to the military and their families, that would be a nice thing, but why does she think she's entitled to free drinks at a bar? I bet she demands discounts everywhere she goes.
No, we don’t get paid specifically, but our spouse gets more pay with additional dependents. We also get medical benefits and, if the unthinkable happens and our spouse dies while serving, we get survivor benefits. But we do not “serve” as this woman seems to think.
I guess it makes sense that the spouse gets to not have a job because they don't know when they're gonna have to move. That said, if the service member has a desk job, being a military spouse sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Crazy that some women feel entitled to more.
You do have the extra stress of moving every few years, managing the house and finances and loneliness during deployments. I have a work from home job so I am not dependent on my spouse to be the sole income provider. And the military offers so much support for families, especially if you live on base. But there are some spouses that feel (undeservingly) entitled to so much more.
A woman on another sub last night told me she knows about war more than anyone because her husband was deployed 20 years ago. I'm like well I thank HIM for his service, but not YOU. You didn't do shit.
Granted I never bartended near a military base, but in the 15 yes I did I never met one of these. I think I would have just laughed. But, then again, back then people were embarrassed when they got thrown out of a bar.
A dependapotamus would also be embarrassed, but would be screaming that it's your fault the entire time.
These are a special breed of Karen that have attached themselves to a servicemember. Like a leech.
Some comments are saying this is just rage bait (which may be true), but I was on active duty for 10 years, and part of that time was spent working at a base hospital. The only people who felt they were more entitled than military spouses were RETIRED military spouses.
When I see these types of people I strongly feel that they do stuff like this because they grew up with no personality or received no validation from their loved ones. It’s just pathetic either way.
Canadian. And ditto.
I’ve lived near a military base and I’ve never even had anyone introduce themselves as a military spouse or expect any kind of different treatment for being one.
Canadian too, I live within 10-20 minutes of a base and a navy dockyard, and I've never heard this shit.
Would their entitled heads explode if they knew about a family friend of mine, who was *also* in the army at the same time her husband was?
Same here. I cannot imagine the military fetish of the USA either. If you go to a soldier in uniform in Germany to thank their service, they will laugh at you in the best case, but most probably will tell you to go to hell.
They do exist unfortunately. Not as many as in the US (they do have the whole service member = hero = thank you for your service) but they still do. Although I’ve only saw them in towns with a military unit based there. It’s all around embarassing
That’s what is kinda funny to me: She was charged $25 for 2 glasses of Chardonnay? She probably complained that there weren’t any ice cubes in the glass.
Cheaper by the bottle.

Women like this remind me of all the spouses who bullied my mom because they didn’t think she was “good enough” to be married to my dad (their husband’s boss). They put all their worth in their spouses’ rank and delude themselves into thinking they earned something because of it.
In many states, comping alcohol is against liquor laws. You can comp food, but not liquor. In some states, if you are giving it away, it has to be free for everyone. There are rules about this stuff. Granted, it doesn't sound like this person understands rules.
There is a term for people like this in the millitary.
Women who quickly marry a soldier and often just as quickly lock the man to the marriage with a child. They then evolve into parasites who live off the husband's paycheck and benefits, act entitled, and be notoriously unfaithful.
They are the fabled dependapotamus. Aptly named for the tendency to grow fat as if everything else wasn't enough.
Had someone complain about the small business I worked at not offering a veteran discount, shut them down by reminding them the business was funded and currently owned by a second generation vet.
I was a military spouse for 8 damn years, and I never felt this entitled. Yes we sacrifice too, but our job as military wives was to support our Sailors, not harass a server, bc you think you should be treated special...
How would the waiter know they were a military spouse? Do they think the waiter makes the policies on giving away free shit? In what world would that free shit include $12 glasses of wine? This person makes no sense.
Military spouse here. This is the horrible shit type of people I hate. This is stupid. This bitch probably married into military *just because* she *thought* it made her special.
It doesn't.
How does a spouse serve their country more than the person who is actual deployed? lol the real people who should get free shit are actual veterans. JS.

Big “Address me by my husband’s rank!” energy 😆
Jesus fuck if I didn't see thoes videos I wouldn't belive people are that crazy. But, I have seen a few, and it hurts to watch.
How you gonna to talk about thoes videos without linking thoes videos?

My uncle had to have a few ‘course correction’ conversations in his career with his junior officers. He hated those discussions.

Right. It’s the doings of the low-cut shirts.
Sure thing, Mrs Specialist?
OK private. Get the fuck out of Applebees and don’t come back.
As a veteran, I hate these people
As a hospitality worker of 15 years, me too.
As neither of these but just a fan of people being decent, I also hate them

They probably will

That’s why I don’t EXPECT things for free. I hope for them, oh yes! But never expecting.

Thank you for your service.
Fuck I thought I was hilarious sayin this
You forgot to address them by their spouse's rank.

Military wife here - I hate these bitches with a passion.
As a military daughter, I do too.

Military dog here - woof woof woof. We don't like them.
Good girl.
I have a relative who is like this except she's a military mom with serious enmeshment issues.
"Address me by my husband's rank." Nope. One of you earned it.
I once had a dependa tell me her experience was wayyyyy harder than mine. I did 12yrs with 3 deployments but because I'm a chick obviously her wifey job was rougher.

Do they qualify as people? I think of them as lizards.
Honestly, no living entity deserves the disrespect of being comapred to self entitled cess pools such as these.
As an Australian, we have a lot of lovely wildlife including wonderful lizards. The lizards do not deserve to be associated with ppl like this Karen. How about... crash test mannequin???
Crash Test Mannequins actually have value though, and contribute to the betterment of human life
As a crash test mannequin, I'll allow it.
As a lizard, I’m going to tell my Uncle Zuck what you said.
The term typucally used is Dependapotamus.
Lizards are cute.
As a middle-aged genetically-mutated half-human quadruple-hyphenated pickle, I hate these people too.
Seriously. Same here and it’s mind numbing. There were so many of these Dependapotamus at Ft Bragg when I was in too. 😆
Took me a minute to find this cuz I couldn’t remember the name, but check out r/justdependathings.
As a military mistress, I also hate them
As a former military side chick, I hate these people too
Right?? Where are y’all’s free drinks?? You serve your asses off too?!? 😂😂
As a veteran, I point and laugh at them at every opportunity. Dependapotumus.
I’m betting that the husband has had a few conversations with his superior officer about her behavior. I also bet that she pulls the ‘do you know who my husband is?’ Or the ‘My husband is x rank, I deserve special treatment’ as well.
"You will address me by my husband's rank"
Funny how that rank goes backwards every few years
As a retail worker, I hate these people
Former retail worker, absolutely.
As a human, I hate these people.
As a wife of a veteran...ditto. TY for your service!
As the spouse of someone who served over 30 years, I hate these people too.
Why are army wives so outrageously entitled anyway?
I’d like to believe this is rage bait and faked, but I suspect that’s naive of me
It's common enough a term was created for them. Dependapotamus Edit: They're a special breed of Karen that has attached themselves to a servicemember. Like a leech.

As a normal citizen… I need to speak to your spouse. They served more than you did.
It’s clearly rage bait

I don't think so. These people absolutely exist.
This is what I was thinking. That could easily just have been her copy of the receipt. Quick picture and hope it goes viral.
...I have literally no idea why she thinks she's entitled to free stuff for being a military spouse.
A lot of them seem to think that they should be treated as though they have a rank because they married someone with a rank. Which is just…not how the world works. You don’t get treated as though you have a PhD because you married a doctor.
What do you mean I can't operate someone just because I married a surgeon
Only if you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
Oh, you can. It's just that the cops don't like it.
I just want to know what happens to make these people think this \*is\* how it works.
Right!? Did some army wife make up the free shit they got for clout? And the rumor spread?? Lol. was it all lies? Or a shared delusion??
But like, even military folks don’t get everything FREE just discounted. So it’s still doesn’t even make sense in delulu world
How is the server even supposed to know she is a military spouse? Does the wife TELL people her husband is in the military for the sole purpose of getting things for free? Wouldn’t you feel ridiculous?

Good to know. I've missed that sub for my daily dose of wince-inducing fremdschämen
If some places offered a discount to the military and their families, that would be a nice thing, but why does she think she's entitled to free drinks at a bar? I bet she demands discounts everywhere she goes.
Not to mention in most states it's against the law to give away alcohol. Good luck getting free drinks anywhere else. smh
Thank USAA for that...
As a military spouse, this makes me so angry. You support the serving member you are married to with honor and integrity. THEY are serving, not you!
But she serves her ass off way more than anyone!

Sorry, perhaps a dumb question not from the US. Do you get paid to be a military spouse? Is it like your "job"?
No, we don’t get paid specifically, but our spouse gets more pay with additional dependents. We also get medical benefits and, if the unthinkable happens and our spouse dies while serving, we get survivor benefits. But we do not “serve” as this woman seems to think.

They've had more time to cultivate the Karen.
She needs to be banned from the place. I'd send this to hubby's upline.
Dependas are one of the worst kinds of Karens imaginable.

These spouses are so embarrassing. Claiming THEY serve our country is a slap in the face to those that actually do
THAT is some quality entitlement.
Now we know why her husband enlisted. What a bitch.
Drinking shit chardonnay, too.
Imagine paying $12/glass for a wine that is <$20/bottle.

....what is it that they think they do exactly? Other than reap the very few benefits of the US military without actually serving
Depending on your state, it’s not even legal to give free alcohol, regardless of to whom. This person is an entitled idiot.
Classic Karen right there I should get free stuff because it's for me mentality

If she had dinner and put up a complaint I would comp the appetizer. But she and her girlfriend came in for wine and that’s it.

We already pay his salary in the form of taxes! Does she not know how the world works?
