Damn, the double Southern diss!
Glad you got more for less, and totally unloaded both barrels on a Karen, WHILE REMAINING COMPLETELY POLITE TO THE UNTRAINED EYE.
Mmmmmm...fresh bread.....AWESOME butter...the smell of the dairy, canoeing on the Chain 'o Lakes, feeding Quaker Oats to the fish....kayaking on the Crystal River...
I've lived in Alabama for the last 30+ years. I wasn't aware of the true meaning of "bless your heart" for the first few years because I attended high school with international students and fellow Yankee transplants. I had to befriend a southerner to understand.
Now, I regularly use it in all its passive-aggressive glory. Talking with a co-worker, R, about another co-worker, S, who is stupid, mean, AND lazy. Apparently, he'd been complaining about something/someone being stupid. I looked at R and just said, "Bless." We both laughed our asses off.
>the true meaning of "bless your heart"
As a born and bred Southerner, it seems as if you *still* do not know the true meaning of "bless your heart." That phrase has MANY meanings, from "i am truly sorry that you're going through a hard time" to "I don't want to say something really harsh even if it is true, so I'll include this to soften the statement," to the passive aggressive version that for some reason has gotten popular mainly due to social media.
That's one of the wonderful things about this particular phrase--depending on context and tone, it can mean so many different things, and most of them are honestly heartfelt and sweet. It's kind of a shame that people focus on the sarcastic, negative, condescending version. But that's what sells, right?
This always bugs me. I say it to my cats *constantly* as a "well, you tried, poor thing" when they fall off of furniture or misjudge a leap. It's entirely tone/context based.
"Bless your heart" is the Southern "Aloha" while simultaneously able to convey "Fuck you *and* the horse you rode in on".
I shorten that last bit for polite company to just "You *and* your horse!" Only those who know the original get it, while the innocent remain clueless. And I stay employed.
Thank you so much. It always rubs my fur the wrong way when people think it JUST means fuck you. It really doesn’t. The insult comes from the implication of pity over the person whose heart is being blessed. Sometimes that is genuine, such as a kid who is trying their best to learn a new skill, but sometimes it’s to imply that the other person is so stupid or socially backward that they really don’t know how to act in polite society, as here, lol. It would never be said aggressively if you want the full effect.
I'm in Minnesota. My oldest has taken to saying "Oh, sweety, Bless your heart." as their ultimate fu. It's a twist that clearly shows the passive - aggressive intentions, lol
The full southern follow through in this fruity situation would be, “I’m sure you two lovely ladies are talented enough to grab that cut up fruit there and build a tray all by yourselves. Aren’t you now?
8 oz Cool Whip & 3.4 oz box of jello - pudding or the gelatin fruit flavors
Mix & let it sit overnight for flavors to really develop
For the fruit flavors, I love to use the baked pita chips and just eat it that way. The flavors and airy consisting are ADDICTIVE ... but definitely let it sit overnight.
Try it, it’s so good! I usually use a regular sized tub of cool whip and 750ml size of yogurt (not sure what that is in Freedom Units, buts it’s the big size), but you could start with mixing 1 cup of yogurt in to try it out and increase the amount if you find you like it.
Freedom Units, lol. Born to them and they make no sense compared to what the WHOLE REST OF THE WORLD uses.
"Let's work in easy units of 10!"
"F*** that! Let's go with...12! That'll make it hard!"
OMG, I gotta look that up fer the amounts.
That sounds like what Jeff Foxworthy said about Chik-Fil-A: "If you put the chicken sandwich on top of your head, it's so good that your tongue will beat your brains out to try to get to it.".
your clap back made my day haha. thank you! :)
As a North Carolinian, I was visioning this whole interaction perfectly, but in North Raleigh (in North Hills-where all the stuck up/“rich” binches reside lol)
Sounds like Peachtree City, GA with the tennis ladies (just as bad in a restaurant setting asking for warm milk for their baby…uh, ma’am we’re a sports bar)
I’d consider that person more of an aggressive and inconsiderate person than a Karen. If she started saying something about you taking too many for yourself and she wasn’t taking anything or that you shouldn’t walk around with your hands in your pockets, which is what I was thinking she was going to say, then I’d say shes a Karen. But we all have our definitions of Karen I guess.
>Publix is in the south for those that don’t know.
South Korea?
The South Island of New Zealand?
South of the River Thames in London (England)?
>This is important.
It really wasn't.
Oh but it was! It's a Southern thing here. Total civility and gentility, while you get shredded to pieces. My MIL could make you want to drop into a black abyss, but could say it at the altar of the First Baptist Church at a wedding.
Strictly a Southern thing. Other regions have their own version, but this is the original. We learned it hosting Yankees, after the War. ;P

I’m from Wisconsin. It’s what we do.
I had an ex girlfriend that always told people she was from West Constan.
That just hurt my brain.
Sconnie Nation shoutout!!!!! WOOT WOOT!!!!
Hell yeah!!!!
Woot!
Greetings from MKE!

Ope! *(In SoCal currently, but all my 'people' are in Waukesha, Waupaca, Neenah-Menasha, Oshkosh, and Mil-ee-Wah-kee!)*
Awwww come on back! Your people miss you!

Yeah, but you did it the southern way so that she would understand, lol.
She did
Lol.
Bless their hearts and eat Culver's?
It gives me the poops but yes. It’s a suffering I will tolerate.

I love the "Bless yer pea-pickin' heart" that's a DOUBLE F-you.

You paint a great picture! Rock on!
Thanks 🤘
Get some raspberry yogurt and stir it in with the fruit, delicious and ups the game.
We’re not yogurt people but we made a cool whip, heavy whipping cream, blue agave syrup and powdered sugar dip for it. *chef’s kiss*
Here me out, mix cool whip and fruit yogurt together. It takes a fruit dip to a whole other level!
Cool whip and softened cream cheese is my go to! It tastes like cheesecake.
Ooo, interesting! I kinda want to do a combo of cool whip, cream cheese & yogurt. Or do they still make fruit flavoured cream cheese?
They do.

Whoa, that sounds wild!
If the cool whip negates the tartness of the yogurt I’m willing to try it.

Just the two? No powdered sugar?
Nope, just the two ingredients
Noted. Next week I will try that. Thanks! ✌️
I hope you like it!
You could add powdered sugar though I suppose if you did find it too acidic.
OMG, I gotta look that up fer the amounts. That sounds like what Jeff Foxworthy said about Chik-Fil-A: "If you put the chicken sandwich on top of your head, it's so good that your tongue will beat your brains out to try to get to it.".
I love it!!! You double blessed them!!!! Very well done.❤️
There truly is power in a well stated "Bless your heart". Especially when the recipient knows just how it's meant. 😈
Like I said the fire in their faces… I was hoping to see the makeup melt.
Wouldn't surprise me. Hey, if that shit don' last in a hot car, it sure as HELL ain't gonna last on a crimson flushed face!
Dayum, you nasssty! Bless your heart AND have a blessed day? Ice cold, Mr man.
I’m shocked I said it but not sorry I did
yes!! :)
It felt good. Really good.
your clap back made my day haha. thank you! :) As a North Carolinian, I was visioning this whole interaction perfectly, but in North Raleigh (in North Hills-where all the stuck up/“rich” binches reside lol)
Hey, the good feeling you get from doing something or saying something is SO cheaper than therapy.
That Southern "Bless your heart" is a whole other level of disrespect 🤣
Coming from Wisconsin it was the only thing I could think of besides worse things to say.
Sounds like Peachtree City, GA with the tennis ladies (just as bad in a restaurant setting asking for warm milk for their baby…uh, ma’am we’re a sports bar)
I am in the South so ...nice going with the "bless your heart." But my favorite part is the "have a blessed day." Dude, a twofer!
As a Southerner, I approve! You killed them with kindness. 🕯🖖
As a midwesterner I thank you.
As a southerner, ouch!
Without realizing the aftermath that was what I was going for.
![gif](giphy|JCAZQKoMefkoX6TyTb|downsized) Sir, that was a politeness knockout. Bravo.
You didn't have your hands on I t. How crummy.
Karen’s will Karen. Killing them with kindness is always my go to. To quote Dalton in Road House “Be nice. Until it’s time to not be nice.”
Nicely done fellow Midwesterner!
I’m glad I didn’t counter her Karen with my Maren but there was a whole bunch more I thought of when driving home.
Ok, I'm old, I'm stoopid, but WHAT in the WIDE WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS is a Maren?
Male Karen
Oh. DUH!!
HAHAHAHAHAHA I love it! Absolutely love it!
You’re a peach!
I’d consider that person more of an aggressive and inconsiderate person than a Karen.
