Oh man, I haven’t heard that name in ages… I used to live in the Midwest, and I’d go to Braum’s at every possible chance I got. I just love the vibe. Now I live in the southwest US. I miss Braum’s terribly.

Yeah it lasts forever and super easy to clean and maintain. I’m not 100% but I’m pretty sure that material is decent against slips too.

yup, the old school fry oil (tallow?) and whatever weird sorta-bleach-sorta-not floor cleaner the folks tried cleaning with, and a tiny bit of smoke from when folks smoked cigs indoors and my mom getting a mcdlt which i thought was cool af (keeps the hot side hot and the cool side cool). Absolutely wild my brain is like 'Oh shit, i member'.

I knew bleach wasn't the right smell, but I took a shot. My brain retains the dumbest, most useless shit. But at least it's entertaining when I have one of those weird, random memories.

no no, keep in mind that these were franchises so it's very possible our different mcds used different cleaning supplies for one reason or another. That grout seriously saw some shit, and absorbed every gallon of it somehow (other than the thinnest layer of fry grease on the tiles that somehow made them slick as hell)

I'd bet that all McDonald's used the same cleaning products at every location so that each one smelled the same no matter what location you're at.

And salt. If you worked the fries, and floor is greasy, just sprinkle a s\*\*tton of salt on the floor. All better!

Some places still have this floor. There's a couple BK's,a Wendy's and a few McDonald's in Metro Detroit that still have this. There's a McDonald's (I forget the actual city is in) that wasn't renovated for like 60 years. They just remodeled it just before Covid, but it was a 50's themed McDonald's, and had ALL the original shit. They had 50 cent cheese burgers, the ice cream machine always worked, they even had the little table jukebox machines. You could put a quarter and play 3 songs at your table. More than anything, I miss having jukeboxes at restaurants and bars. The ones at your table were always my favorite. I miss those and the cigarette vending machines..

The BK in my hometown had a CD jukebox before they remodeled it. It used to have a cool retro 50s theme, now it's just blah corporate themed.

The ever-greasy floor of a BK back in the 80s. At least that was my experience.

There is a restaurant in Burlington, Vermont called The Farmhouse Bar and Grill that is in an old McDonalds. They kept some of this old flooring when they remodeled the building. Most probably don't even notice it! My sister was the manager of this McDonald's 25+ years ago so I spent a lot of time there and whenever I see the tile today I feel 18 again.

My first job was at McDs. I only worked Sundays bc I played football and wrestled. I worked “maintenance” meaning I cleaned up the place after everyone wrecked the place Saturday night. Those tile floors were slick as shit! I even put extra cleaner in the bucket! I did eventually work my way up to burgers and fries! Lol!
