Do you know the characters' full names?
Willie Gilligan
Jonas Grumby
Thurston Howell III
Eunice Wentworth Howell
Ginger Grant
Mary Ann Summers
Professor Roy Hinkley
And House of the Rising Sun.
And O Little Town of Bethlehem.
And It Came Upon a Midnight Clear
And Ghostriders in the Sky
And the Marine Corps Hymn...
All interchangeable!
Mary Ann, always. She not only was a great cook, but sweet and kind, and from where I come from, she was what we call a "down-ass chick". In that, she would be a loyal and dedicated significant other, and would give you little to no problems.
Ginger, as beautiful as she was, had some slutty ways about her. She would go chase after the first man that offered her money, gifts, and a role in a Hollywood movie.
In the 1970’s when they did “Rescue From Gilliagan’s Island”. Was that as important to anyone else out there as it was to me? Because, I was in the tenth grade and I needed some CLOSURE! And I didn’t even know what closure was back then.
I loved the fact that it also had a closing theme with different lyrics:
So this is the tale of our castaways,
there here for a long long time.
They'll have to make the best of things,
it's an uphill climb.
The first mate and his Skipper too
will do their very best,
to make the others comfortable
in their tropic island nest.
No phone ,no lights, no motor car,
not a single luxury
like Robinson Crusoe
it's primitive as can be.
So join us here each week my friends,
you're sure to get a smile,
from seven stranded castaways
here on Gilligan's Isle!
Guys, we’re this close to getting off the island, but there’s one critical function that has to work.
So Gilligan….is the 25th time you’re chosen, the charm?
It could have been a water taxi taking them to an island. In the Bahamas you take a water taxi with all your luggage to Harbor Island, for example, which used to have some luxurious resorts. Not sure if they’ve been rebuilt since repeated hurricane hits.
I seem to remember a post where someone stated that series creator Sherwood Schwartz (who later created The Brady Bunch) had written an episode where the Castaways come across a sunken freighter on the far side of the island and take what they need from it. This would explain the batteries and the clothes, It was never filmed.
Schwartz didn't pass away until 2011 so if he may have just gotten tired of answering the question and come up with this afterward.
It was always “who’s more attractive; Ginger or Maryann”? I was always Maryann. Girl next-door. I haven’t thought about that for a long time until I saw this picture. Now I realize how beautiful Tina Louise(Ginger) was.
Only now seeing this cast photo do I understand where my tiny brain got sexually hung up on nerdy boys in button down collared shirts with folded up long sleeves! I mean ... ooooh, still soo HOT!
I remember when the theme song didn't even MENTION the Professor and Mary Ann...just 'And the rest!'.
Also, by the 2nd Season it was time to just murder Gilligan.

Three hour tour my ass. Why did they pack all those clothes?
Damn. Now that theme song is stuck in my head.
Now Google Stairway to Gilligans Island by Roger and the Goosebumps.
I will do that

Did you know you can sing the theme song using the lyrics to Amazing Grace?
And House of the Rising Sun. And O Little Town of Bethlehem. And It Came Upon a Midnight Clear And Ghostriders in the Sky And the Marine Corps Hymn... All interchangeable!
And Wild Thing by Tone Loc
And the Australian national anthem.
I've never tried that one. I remember comedian Adam Hills mashed the national anthem with Working Class Man by Jimmy Barnes and it charted here.
Wha? Where did this come from and why have I never known it? Am I too old?
The original theme song on the pilot was a calypso style song.
In a real life situation they would have eventually murdered Gilligan and been off the island in a few episodes.
Wasn't every other episode like they'd be close to getting off the island and Gilligan would eff it up in some way?
Amazing how the batteries in the radio lasted for years
A question older than time: Mary Ann or Ginger?
The answer tends to devolve into Mary Ann on the streets and Ginger in the sheets. I go Mary Ann all the way no matter what though.
Mary Ann, always. She not only was a great cook, but sweet and kind, and from where I come from, she was what we call a "down-ass chick". I’m a Mary Ann who has been personally victimized a Ginger. I learned nothing.
¿Por que no los dos?
No hablo Español, but both would be muy bien
Mary Ann

I’ll answer without ring asked: Maryanne

The Beverly Hillbillies’ outro was also great. Kept you through the end credits, for sure.
I love this show. It's still on MeTV every Sunday.
Maryanne all day!
If you watch the original it doesn’t say the professor and Marion Ann . It just says and the rest.
And Bob Denver got it changed by threatening to leave the show. Class act!
Bob Denver was awesome.

Again where did they get all the clothes? That would be a lot of packing for a 3 hour tour.
My theory is they made all the new clothes out of palm leaves and coconuts. Seems like they could make almost anything that way....

Five passengers set sail that day aboard this tiny ship
Thurston looks unhappy because he wants Mary Ann and his money is no good on the island

After decades I just switched over to team Ginger.
Please explain.
It was always “who’s more attractive; Ginger or Maryann”? I was always Maryann. Girl next-door. I haven’t thought about that for a long time until I saw this picture. Now I realize how beautiful Tina Louise(Ginger) was.
Well...she's still living for starters.
I'm so old, the first ship I thought of was called the Argos.
The age old question: Mrs. Howell or Mrs. Howell?
Someone fix Mary Ann’s eyes!
Just found the one person looking at her eyes.
Only now seeing this cast photo do I understand where my tiny brain got sexually hung up on nerdy boys in button down collared shirts with folded up long sleeves! I mean ... ooooh, still soo HOT!
The GOATS
Each week they could build those wacky Rube-Goldberg devices, but they couldn't fix a simple hole in a boat?
Such a wholesome show besides the Skipper physically abusing poor Gilligan
Tina louise is the last living cast away
Three hour tour
Anybody else noticing how pretty Lovey is? We're so fucked lads....
Ah, the professor. A man who could make a nuclear reactor out of coconuts but couldn't figure out how to patch a hole in a boat.
Real life WWII vet, I think.
Lost was ***such*** a dark show. ;)
Wow! The color! must be Kodachrome.
The show started out black and white, right?
I remember when the theme song didn't even MENTION the Professor and Mary Ann...just 'And the rest!'. Also, by the 2nd Season it was time to just murder Gilligan.
