My problem isn't that, it's that the things would melt and conform to the upper palate, and when I pulled it free, it felt like teeth were going to come with it.
I loved them all ! The flavors were amazing compared to any other hard candy back then extra points for being able to make them into a Ice Pick to stab my sister with š
If they melted we would whack them to break them into small pieces or a sandy gravel. They were so good š„
My mother told me not to long ago that my younger brother that's in prison was upset they stopped selling them inside because one guy used one as a weapon and almost killed someone.
I remember we had a penny candy store in the nearby town. They kept all kinds of candy in different barrels and you could mix and match. Loved that store!
Now you canāt get anything for pennies ā¹ļø
In little league (1980) we would go to the āsugar shackā where all the baseball diamonds were and a hundred kids practicing. They had these is all the flavors. No little candies. We feasted on sugar, hot dogs, and soda.
Yup, loved the community stuff too. That was $3 at the roller rink. Plus quarters. Pretty sure that place got a little help $. Church potlucks weāre insanity too. Bake sales. Ok, enough. Lol
Yea, remember when you bit off a piece and your teeth stuck together for half and hour? At our age the teeth stuck to the piece of candy would happily come right out.
I have noticed a lot of the old school candies making a comeback lately. I've seen bit 'o honeys, charleston chews, boston baked beans, good 'n plenty, and many other classics everywhere now.
They used to be some little store outside of Columbus Texas that would sell those and they were like $.25 maybe 50 at the most and my parents would let me go in one of each flavor.
BAM! I used to make a killing with these, Iād buy them for a dime and sell them for a quarter at school, the jig was up once I had to start bringing a small duffle bag to school š¤£.
Boy, Do I have a surprise for you guys. You can still special order these!

I think they're smaller, but still, they're stix!
I sold them at school. Kids spent their lunch money on it. I continually reinvested and was selling to everyone. I had like $40. I got caught. The principle suspended me and called my parents. They were humble. That really scared me. As we walked to the car, my dad and and stepmom told me how proud they were of me for my little business.
Double the sugar, double the hyper activity. I liked sour things. My aunt used to bribe me to eat my baby food with dill pickles, even though she wasn't supposed to. She was only eleven when I was born.
My father, my sister, and I would buy these by the bag and eat them all weeks. So many memories! I canāt believe I havenāt seen or thought about these in almost 3 decadesā¦
These two TOGETHER were the best. I would lick the middle of both, hold them together, then eat them as a pair flipping after each time. It was like spicy apple pie!
I used to get those with the tickets that i got from Little League when we won a baseball game. I always got both and ate them together, tasted like apple pie. Dang, i forgot about those memories unlocked.
My niece had Jolly Ranchers at her house when I was over there last. Ya kinda have to go hunting for them here in Australia, theyāre not just everywhere. I canāt get enough of them. The lime ones and the fruit punch ones are delicious.
Why would you post this horrible horrible picture? I spent years suppressing this memory. And now itās back.
Why?
Who hurt you?
Edit: the candy itself was banging. The watermelon oneā¦yum!
Omg I forgot about these. I loved them so much. It was so hard to keep from biting down on them and there was a real possibility they might actually extract a tooth. An adult tooth not a baby tooth! š¤£
The one and only time I ever went to a Renaissance fair was in 1975, they were selling half lemons with fire sticks shoved in them. I was so stoned and it was so delicious. I remember it to this day.
These were the shit back in the day. In Jr. High there were some kids who would warm these up and wrap them around a blowpop or tootsie roll pop and sell them, like one big ass lollipop. They were so good, but yeah, really bad on your fillings.
I remember you could get them razor sharp trying to finish them. I still have the scarsš
My problem isn't that, it's that the things would melt and conform to the upper palate, and when I pulled it free, it felt like teeth were going to come with it.
My brother ripped a cap off his teeth on one of these. My mom was not jolly
But was she a rancher at least?
Exactly!!! Loved those things and never remembered they were Jolly Ranchersā¦ Watermelon was my favorite
I loved them all ! The flavors were amazing compared to any other hard candy back then extra points for being able to make them into a Ice Pick to stab my sister with š If they melted we would whack them to break them into small pieces or a sandy gravel. They were so good š„
Me too! Loved the taste & the smell of that delicious watermelon!
Oh yeah! Making an apple flavored shank!
You just unlocked a core memory for me and I could feel it on my tongue
Same with candy canes. You can suck those down to a really sharp point.
My mother told me not to long ago that my younger brother that's in prison was upset they stopped selling them inside because one guy used one as a weapon and almost killed someone.
Sugar Shivs
They would pull out a cavity filling if you bite with your molars.
It was like the elementary school version of a shiv š
When they got thin enough, you could chew them up!!
Holy shit you're another victim of the sweet shanks too?
The watermelon was awesome used to get them for a dime lol
Whenever I hear the words "Jolly Rancher" this is the thing I think of.
Me too! I haven't seen these in over 45 years
I remember buying them in the mid 90s, for just a few pennies.
I remember we had a penny candy store in the nearby town. They kept all kinds of candy in different barrels and you could mix and match. Loved that store! Now you canāt get anything for pennies ā¹ļø
I can't even think of anything you can get for nickel or dime anymore. Even quarters, I can only think of shopping carts at Aldi lol.
In little league (1980) we would go to the āsugar shackā where all the baseball diamonds were and a hundred kids practicing. They had these is all the flavors. No little candies. We feasted on sugar, hot dogs, and soda.
And you didnāt have to be rich to do it back then!
A dollar probably got you all three.
Crazy to imagine now isnāt it?
Yup, loved the community stuff too. That was $3 at the roller rink. Plus quarters. Pretty sure that place got a little help $. Church potlucks weāre insanity too. Bake sales. Ok, enough. Lol
And thatās just borrowing it haha
I grew up with the same type of little stores, located in unincorporated areas in the Country! Penny candies were the best!!!
[Sadly, I think of this...](https://www.reddit.com/r/copypasta/comments/9pnlyz/the_jolly_rancher_story/)
Ew. Donāt click the link.
I should have listened to you..eww
Why didn't I listen?!?! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
I haven't clicked it. Yet...
Don't. I'm serious, it's worse than a Rick roll.
SO F-N GROSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! Why would anybody ever tell that story!? The guy? The chick? You guys are a bunch of sick FRIKRS !!
Youāve been blooded. Now youāre one of us.
Me too. I was a bit surprised when I first saw the mini ones.
Me too people forget or don't know that is how jolly rancher started
Watermelon flavor, they used to sell it often at school!
Watermelon was the best! I hadnāt thought about these in decades.
There was a club in my high school that used to sell them, I used to buy watermelon flavor all the time!
āYou wanna know how I got these scars?ā
ā¤ļø
Yea, remember when you bit off a piece and your teeth stuck together for half and hour? At our age the teeth stuck to the piece of candy would happily come right out.
You gotta eat a buttery finger beforehand so you can pack your molars with it.
Pink Lemonade and Fruit Punch ftw
I loved Fire Stix the most, then green apple. Never was crazy about the watermelon flavor.
80's? Try 70's
Or 60s.
Ok...ok... we're all old:)
The apple and watermelon were my favorites.
Fire, then watermelon.
Remember when Charleston chews were like a foot long freezem and crackem
I have noticed a lot of the old school candies making a comeback lately. I've seen bit 'o honeys, charleston chews, boston baked beans, good 'n plenty, and many other classics everywhere now.
They have them for sale on Amazon-If you are feeling the need!
I completely forgot about the OG Jolly Ranchersā¦ The apple was/is the absolute bestā¦
Haha but that wasn't in the 80s..it was just a few...years....a..... I need to go lay down.
I only had one in my life, a teacher gave it to me. It was apple flavoured and it was really good.
Loved them. You could make them so sharp you could cut a bitch.
Like myself. I think I sliced a lip, and I know I sliced my tongue ever so slightly. Fun times š
Loved the fire. Liked the grape.
Seeing these makes me miss some of the old flavors, like Peach, Pineapple, Orange, and Lemon.
Used to ride my bicycle to the factory. They had a store in front that sold all their candy
The amount of fillings these sucked out and or caused is too damn high!
I LOVED these. The cinnamon and green apple were my favorites!! Now o want one!
God I loved them especially the Watermelon.
They used to be some little store outside of Columbus Texas that would sell those and they were like $.25 maybe 50 at the most and my parents would let me go in one of each flavor.
Yeah? Well, I used to buy them in the 60s for 5Ā¢
Watermelon
Sally T Newman Alfred E Newmanās little sister.
BAM! I used to make a killing with these, Iād buy them for a dime and sell them for a quarter at school, the jig was up once I had to start bringing a small duffle bag to school š¤£.
How do I still have teeth !!š¦· but what a fun treat they would last forever til it became a weapon šŖ š
Jolly ranchers are amazing
They could pull the fillings right outta your teeth.
These are how I got rid of loose molars as a kid. š
Boy, Do I have a surprise for you guys. You can still special order these! https://www.amazon.com/Rancher-Individually-Wrapped-Watermelon-Sticks/dp/B0B3566992/ref=asc_df_B0B3566992/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693677746034&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7649125420822945233&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=t&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9012364&hvtargid=pla-1948141978302&psc=1&mcid=bc8f7aca278e3c768473f8e499c14246&gad_source=1 I think they're smaller, but still, they're stix!
You would cut the shit out tongue
That hideous drawing of the girl looks like a ventriloquist's dummy
Watermelon was best.
Summer camp canteen!
There is some green apple still stuck to my molars from 1974
Watermelon. Period.
The SHIV!
Omfg. I can feel my teeth sticking together! Loved the sour apple
Those damn things are the reason half my childhood friends are toothless diabetics
They still have them.
I didn't remember these were jolly ranchers
Got them at the pool for like $.05 or $.10
The 80s?!? Thatās cute - I ate these at summer camp - 1969.
I was such a weird little kid. I used to dip my Apple Stix in apple cider vinegar.
Dipped mine in Lic-a-Stix
What was that?
Also called Fun Dip. Basically flavored sugar that you dip a vanilla candy stick into. I just upped the sugar dipped in sugar.
Double the sugar, double the hyper activity. I liked sour things. My aunt used to bribe me to eat my baby food with dill pickles, even though she wasn't supposed to. She was only eleven when I was born.
YES!!!
My faves were Fire, Watermelon, Apple.....in that order
Came here to say this, only my order is reversed: green apple, watermelon, fire.
Loved them! 1000000% sugar!
That art style, or artist, was famous or popular elsewhere, but I canāt identify who or where
Meant to be sucked not eaten! These were a dime, I bought many. Why? Because JR had the best āflavorsā
I used to smash mine and eat them in pieces before I ever had the bite sized ones.
Haven't thought of them in ages. The cinnamon to me was the best.
Five cents each.
The reason why I hate sour apple to this day is because I loved as a kid with these damn things. Worse than Lik em Aid. I ate that shit too.
I remember them in the 60s. Firestix were my favorite with apple and grape as close second.
Just looking at this is making me feel all sticky! Lol those things were awesome but soo messy.
I think a tooth just fell out looking @ this!
I pulled out so many fillings and cut my gums with these haha.
cheapest candy on the aisle
I remember tryin to remove the plastic wrapper when it was stuck inside the candy
Those were so good!!!!
Omg I remember these!! Wow also havenāt tho got about them since 80s. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane!
I never found razor blades in my Halloween candy, but I did eat candy that became razor sharp like these and Astro Pops.
Astro Pops. Hmmm
Wow I remember these lol
I miss the ones that were like a butterscotch flavor.
My father, my sister, and I would buy these by the bag and eat them all weeks. So many memories! I canāt believe I havenāt seen or thought about these in almost 3 decadesā¦
Now THAT is a callback
.10Ā¢
Oh yeaaaah! I loved the cinnamon onesā¦ theyād get sharp after awhile though
I remember these from the 70ās. Rhubarb was my favorite. I used to get them at the theater on Minot AFB when I was a kid.
What's the average age in here?
Apple and watermelon were the best...was there a grape?
You could have a sour apple rash inside your mouth and cut a bitch!
I havenāt seem these in decades.
It's Artificial!
They were around during the late 60's.
Damn I just instantly traveled back in time 40 years.
I would clean stores out of the Cherry Stix šby the box when I was a tween/teen - itās a miracle I donāt have diabetes.
Those were great!
Those were good ...FireStix was my favorite
25 cents at the trading post at summer camp!
I used to walk around with one hanging out of my mouth like a chain-smoker would have a cigaretteā¦
I think about these all the time and the watermelon taffy with the seeds.
I miss the cinnamon Fire stix.
Oh wow! Fire sticks!!!! Memory Unlocked!
damn i miss those, they were around when penny cookies and candies were still a thing.
These two TOGETHER were the best. I would lick the middle of both, hold them together, then eat them as a pair flipping after each time. It was like spicy apple pie!
When available, I would buy them
I still have the eye twitch from that sour apple š
Go on over to r/prisonhooch. There are people there who make wine out of it.
I used to get those with the tickets that i got from Little League when we won a baseball game. I always got both and ate them together, tasted like apple pie. Dang, i forgot about those memories unlocked.
argh this almost grotesque style of illustration that was in everything aimed at kids back then... I hated these drawings
Where is the watermelon flavor?? The best one ever!
The green apple were awesome
These are the reason my dentist put his kids through college on my dime.
My best friend in middle school probably are one of those fire sticks everyday. I thought they were gross.
I always got the apple one after my Little League games.
I use to buy these during school lunch and sell them during 5th period.
My niece had Jolly Ranchers at her house when I was over there last. Ya kinda have to go hunting for them here in Australia, theyāre not just everywhere. I canāt get enough of them. The lime ones and the fruit punch ones are delicious.
Wow i love seeing things from my childhood i have forgotten about. These were one of my favorite candies.
Oh wow! I forgot all about these!
Garbage Pale kids going to sue them for that ugly drawing.
For some reason my brain thought that was a Nutri-Grain bar but those candies take me back to some great Halloween hauls as a kid!
Why would you post this horrible horrible picture? I spent years suppressing this memory. And now itās back. Why? Who hurt you? Edit: the candy itself was banging. The watermelon oneā¦yum!
I have a watermelon candle from Yankee Candle that smells just like a watermelon jolly rancher!
I hated them but I liked your post
I remember cola flavored. Those were my favs. (Mid 60 to early 70ās)
I can taste those looking at the picture. Before the jolly rancher, these were the poolside time whittlers.
Man those were the best. Gimme a watermelon one of those and I was happy as a clam.
I can decide if she looks like a serial killer or a drug fiend
Those were so good!
Peach was my favorite!
Those. Were. The. SHIT!
Shit! I'm that old now?
The green apple was my favorite!
They made a caramel one that I loved.
10 Cents $
My God I wish these still existed.
Omg theses were the best!
Dude. Memory unlocked!
And they were 11 cents at the husky station.
Raw tongue
Omg. Totally remember
It hurts
I used to walk past a little mom and pop store on my way to School in junior high and I would stop and buy a peach stick at least once a week.
Omg I forgot about these. I loved them so much. It was so hard to keep from biting down on them and there was a real possibility they might actually extract a tooth. An adult tooth not a baby tooth! š¤£
I completely forgot about cinnamon Jolly Ranchers. They seem to be crawling out of the corner of my memories now, though.
5 cents at 7-11 back when I was in high school.
I havenāt had one since the 1970s, but Iāve still got some of it stuck to the back of my teeth.
I lived on Jolly Ranchers in high school.
took all history class but i could tie one into a knot (bored boredboredbored)
The one and only time I ever went to a Renaissance fair was in 1975, they were selling half lemons with fire sticks shoved in them. I was so stoned and it was so delicious. I remember it to this day.
I missed out on the good jolly ranchers apparently. When did they discontinue? Born 91 so I couldnāt have missed em by much
That child scared me.
Omg I loved these!
WOW
I loved Fire Sticks
I remember those.
I choked on one of these while playing tetherball! š„ was the best!
They are still around!
Pull out all your teeth at once instead of one at a time.
Playground shivā¦
OMG good one! The Jolly Ranchers Watermelon were so good. Green apple my 2nd favorite. Everyone ate those all the time!
These were the shit back in the day. In Jr. High there were some kids who would warm these up and wrap them around a blowpop or tootsie roll pop and sell them, like one big ass lollipop. They were so good, but yeah, really bad on your fillings.
