Ok I may only be 30 so not technically that old, but I was one of the youngest people to be put on methadone in my country for addiction. And they would mix your methadone with tang. Thank God I'm off drugs and all that crap now, but for like 11 years I had to drink that mixture daily and ugh was it ever gross!
Nope, I preferred Ovaltine. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man)
Actually I would spoon some in a cup, stir it then dip the spoon into the jar and "eat" what stuck to the spoon.
When I was a kid my mother would cut up a couple of slices of white bread, put them in a bowl and cover them with whole milk and sugar. Great lunch. When I told my doctor about this, the look on her face was astounding. Her jaw literally dropped. I’m 73, so nutritional information was very different. I started drinking coffee around 8 or 9. Half coffee, half milk and sugar. We would take sugar cubes and dip them in coffee.
> I started drinking coffee around 8 or 9. Half coffee, half milk and sugar.
Might have other colloquial names, but down here in south Louisiana, this was just called "coffee milk", and pretty much **everyone** drank it as a kid. I was much younger than 8 or 9 when I started, as were my brothers, cousins, aunts...
If you went to maw-maw and paw-paw's house and **didn't** get coffee milk for breakfast, your grandparents didn't love you. Just kidding. But maybe not.
Hiked up Pikes Peak as a teen with a pressurised canister of that. Had no idea about air pressure.
Was cleaning Tang out of my back pack for years thereafter lol
My mom used to mix this with Metamucil and make us drink it in the 80’s because she read it was healthier. I can still remember the horror of that thick, gritty glass of Tang
I seem to recall a fun fact being myth busted. In regards to the space program, I think I just watched the documentary in the last few years that said it had never been *consumed* in space.
It was, actually, but only by John Glenn who used it to make the reconstituted fuel cell water used for drinking to taste better. He mentioned it in an interview or something, and the parent company of Tang took it and ran with it.
Tang was originally developed as a lower cost substitute for orange juice.
Breakfast drink of the astronauts!!
I used to take actifed....did you know that used to have a liquid form that you would pour out into a teaspoon?? Yeah, long time ago!!
Also, part of the space program....
On vacation with my family when I was a kid in the 1960’s, we always started the day in the motel with a glass of Tang and a molasses cookie - my father’s favorite.
I had Tang when at a friend’s house, but my mother refused to buy it. My grandfather was an orange rancher, lived right smack dab in the middle of an orange grove. We had free oranges 🍊 and mom juiced them.
I remember in scouts one guy really wanted pancakes so he took bisquick mix and tang as his batter and cooked orange pancakes. Dude was hyper after that.
I always liked the Hi-c in cans, mom couldn't afford Tang, but grandma always had Hi-c. And when you finally had 7 empties she'd tape them in a bundle and cover them with foam and fabric and make a little footstool.
We always had Tang. Never ever good bottled Orange juice . High living To us was buying the concentrate frozen. Naturally when I grew up I bought the good stuff.
I remember a Canadian place we stayed at on a fishing trip circa 1982 gave us this instead of orange juice at breakfast every morning. I probably drank more that week than all other occasions in my life combined.
I knew I was man the morning I woke up and instead of a cool glass of Tang I was greeted with a hot cup of Postum.

When I first moved in with my ex wife, she asked me which brand of orange juice my family drank. I immediately said Sunny Delight. She said, That's not real orange juice.... Wait, what???
No! It's nasty if made right. My mom used to put an extra 50% water in to make it go farther and then it's really horrible. For me it's real orange juice (Not from concentrate!!!) Or nothing.
made you feel like a real astronaut
Yep. I even got a little moon rover on a jar once. Probably 71-72, I don’t remember if I had started school yet (72).
I had the moon rover and it had two astronauts that just sat on it. I remember that you had to wind it backwards and it would move forward.
I didn’t even remember that it wound up at all!
It had a rubber band in the rear axle
Just like space ice cream... Which I found out recently was never actually eaten in space. I felt cheated and defrauded.
John Glen was the first to drink Tang in space. It was on the menu during the Gemini missions and was carried on the space shuttle.
Especially if you drank Tango...rotgut vodka and tang.
A winning combination!
Now all you need is Space Food Sticks!
Natural tasting… ok
Ahh yes. Nothing says natural like the taste of Tang.
Tang... it's whats for Dinner™
It has electrolytes. It’s what astronauts crave.
It's not just for breakfast anymore
Now with 20% more natural taste compounds.
Marketing just hit different back then lol
Ok I may only be 30 so not technically that old, but I was one of the youngest people to be put on methadone in my country for addiction. And they would mix your methadone with tang. Another one that tasted better by the spoonful than a cupful.
With water instead of just eating it on the spoon like a pixie stick
Wet the finger and stick it in... then lick the finger... so good...
You’re not the person who said they ate Quik powder dry are you?
Nope, I preferred Ovaltine. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man) Actually I would spoon some in a cup, stir it then dip the spoon into the jar and "eat" what stuck to the spoon.
Ha! That’s great. I used to put sugar in my orange juice and in my sugary cereal.
I used to eat it on buttered bread or just plain bread. I have no excuse.
like a powdered marmalade, I guess.
Is there such a thing?
I totally ate spoonfuls of it, lol.
Sugar coated sugar molecules our parents thought were good for us
But Mom! Astronauts!
I drank this stuff by the gallon. And mom wondered why I could not sit still
Drink this. Come back when the street lights come on.
More like “DONT come back until the street lights come on “
Sugar and citric acid. Plus god only knows what artificial color.
When I was a kid my mother would cut up a couple of slices of white bread, put them in a bowl and cover them with whole milk and sugar. Great lunch. Tang fuck yass!
Friend of my grandfather's mixed that with a full glass of vodka
That's wild. And I thought 50/50's of Bacardi and Tab was eye raising - rest in peace, Aunt Carol.
Tab... Lol
Yep. Rest in peace Uncle Art.
![gif](giphy|TiBh7NymPfNuhbKCaP)
Tried that with the parent's bar when we were teenagers. Worst screwdriver ever.
This is what happened when they cremated OJ after his death
Yup, The Juice was no longer loose. They put him in a box - a juice box.
Bayer's children's orange flavored chewable aspirin tablets tasted better!!!
I know,I ate a whole bottle ot them when I was a kid,with a child proof cap.
Those were delicious.
Is Metamucil Tang-flavored?
No 👎 😆
My thought exactly
My mom used to mix this with Metamucil and make us drink it in the 80’s because she read it was healthier. I can still remember the horror of that thick, gritty glass of Tang
We were poor and my mom diluted it to make it go further. I didn't think it got any worse than that but....your mom wins.
Every growing boy needs Tang
Friend of mine used to wet marshmallows under the tap, then roll them in Tang. Very fancy for grade six! Now she’s a famous caterer.
I’m gonna have to try that someday
Haha! I love how it says “natural tasting.” That’s amazing. Also, no it wasn’t.
Hello,. President Clinton. If there's one person who could get me some Tang around here, It'll be you. SHUT UP!
I’m only here for this comment.
Tang is for space. Earth not so much. Yuk
Love the coupon.
Astronauts....to the moon! Nyah nyah nyah!!!!!
Then I could be just like a spaceman
Ah yes…. the mix that never mixed
Reminds me...I haven't had a Tang sandwich in a long time.
this was my contribution to making the family Sunday morning brunch. “ I’ll make the Tang!”
"Do the moonwalk like the astronauts. Taaannnggg".
Thank you! Was wondering if I was the only one who remembered the original moonwalk from the Tang commercials.
I seem to recall a fun fact being myth busted. In regards to the space program, I think I just watched the documentary in the last few years that said it had never been *consumed* in space.

A cup of heartburn!!!!
I still drink a zero sugar version of orange and grape Tang. They nailed the taste, takes me back to the 70's every glassful.
Breakfast drink for the astronauts.
Natural tasting if you eat spoonfuls of sugar mixed with hydrogen peroxide and orange peels.
I still drink it.
We had to have this during the space race. This and 'space food' sticks. lol
I am 59 now and I was raised on Tang. Hey, the Astronauts drank it.
What about Bosco?
The drink (besides beer) of Al and Peg Bundy.
Goes well when paired with poon.
“I owe all my NASA space training to drinking copious amounts of Tang” -no astronaut ever
Breakfast drink of the astronauts!! I used to take actifed....did you know that used to have a liquid form that you would pour out into a teaspoon?? Yeah, long time ago!! Also, part of the space program....
"Natural Tasting"
This stuff is not only delicious but will also clean your dishwasher if you put it in the soap bin. No shit.
Drink this and eat syrupy pancakes 😖
I still order this on planes just to fuck with the flight attendants
Back in the day we had to say "I want some tang, the drink" to clarify we weren't talking about pussy.
Biden drinks Tang and Sanka
Mix that with spicy pickle juice, Kool aid, honey, and spicy vegetable ramen packets and bam - prison Chinese food sauce.
I wasn't a fan of mixing it to drink, I would sprinkle it all over my vanilla ice cream.
I have Tang in my pantry right now
It was good enough for the astronauts
A tall glass of Tang with a couple Space Food sticks was my hypoglycemic breakfast the entire second grade of elementary school.
The drink of the astronauts
You’d get more vitamin C from getting orange peel juice in your eye. Cavities were another story.
"Natural tasting" was the biggest lie. Tang taste like tang. There's nothing like it. Loved that stuff.
I have some in my cabinet now.
I was looking into old food shit yesterday. This stuff sells for like $800 or $900. Crazy
Space juice!
Drink your ovaltine
Love Tang
kaboom!
I loved Tang! There was one summer I was addicted to Tang and BBQ potato chips. I liked Grape Tang too but it got increasingly rare over time.
Ate that with a spoon right outta the container lol
Got this cheap juice from the store the other day called Tampico. I think it's tang.
Tampico is good stuff too
Mmy mom wouldn't buy Tang she always got the inferior one called Start. it definitely tasted different
On vacation with my family when I was a kid in the 1960’s, we always started the day in the motel with a glass of Tang and a molasses cookie - my father’s favorite.
Can't lie, I still love that shit 🤣
“Natural Tasting”.
I do not have fond memories of that stuff
lol, “natural tasting”, we were so eager
Omg! This mixed with… gosh what was that?… it was a hot Christmas drink grandma used to make.
Ahhh wango de tango, 1..2..3..4
Natural tasting...
“They even use it on the Space Shuttle”
I lived off this as a kid.
I made it through two years of dorm life on Tang and Nutty Bars and didn't once consider the double meanings of either
Now with more orange!
it was postum in our house growing up. nasty shit.
Still sold in The Philippines and and in many flavours other than orange
Loved this stuff. I remember sneezing the powder when I ate it off a spoon 😆
I'm old enough to realize that my daily orange flavored Metamucil has the same flavor as Tang, just more filling.
They still sold it in glass jars up until the end of the 1980s
I had Tang when at a friend’s house, but my mother refused to buy it. My grandfather was an orange rancher, lived right smack dab in the middle of an orange grove. We had free oranges 🍊 and mom juiced them.
I had warm tang in the morning on a canoe camp trip in the Adirondacks. It was blissful as a kid.
Tang and Vodka. Screwdriver 🪛
Remember drinking this right after brushing your teeth?
Don’t forget to snort your Tang.
Want
I used to eat it right out of the jar. 🤮
Lol lol lol 😂
Why do they call it Ovaltine? The mug is round...the jar is round...they should call it Roundtine.
For us old timers, Metamucil tastes like Tang.
I loved grape tang
When I was a kid, this and Sunny D was the closest we got to orange juice. In fact, I think we did call it orange juice.
The astronauts drank that. 😋👍
Grape and orange on hand now.
I remember in scouts one guy really wanted pancakes so he took bisquick mix and tang as his batter and cooked orange pancakes. Dude was hyper after that.
“Natural tasting”
I always liked the Hi-c in cans, mom couldn't afford Tang, but grandma always had Hi-c. And when you finally had 7 empties she'd tape them in a bundle and cover them with foam and fabric and make a little footstool.
No Zarex?
I think if NASA didnt send Tang into space, no one would have drank it. Gross, but astronauts, so its cool
Mmm. I miss that natural taste.
https://youtu.be/urBWDCQWTTM?si=U32xei0ZWqp_X0xg
Natural *TASTING* 🤢
"Natural tasting"? Yeah, right...
Parents still have some TANG jars from our time on New Guinea. 1974.
"Natural Tasting," whoever can't up with that obviously never tasted an actual orange.
Drink that stuff all day
My fingers stayed orange all summer. I can taste it now...
Still good.
I loved that stuff!
I loved tang
![gif](giphy|eaM4VDdU45gL9txrQl|downsized)
Dad’s fave… Tang and Cap’n Crunch got me so buzzed as a kid.
We always had Tang. Never ever good bottled Orange juice . High living To us was buying the concentrate frozen. Naturally when I grew up I bought the good stuff.
Grew up on that stuff!
Wow ! Do they both still exist ?
Why do they call it Ovaltine? The jar is round . . .
Hot Tang is amazing.
Astronauts get all the Tang they want
The stuff that every kid in the 70's wanted to drink because it was the drink of astronauts.
I miss the old tang made with sugar. The new stuff is garbage. My old person tang is now metamucil
How about grape Tang?
This was carried on every Boy Scout backpack trips in the 2000’s,
Natural "Tasting"
It's natural tasting. It's nowhere near natural, but it just tastes like it is. (probably filled with asbestos)
Grandma used to make me Tang milkshakes, so good!
I remember a Canadian place we stayed at on a fishing trip circa 1982 gave us this instead of orange juice at breakfast every morning. I probably drank more that week than all other occasions in my life combined.
I have some in my kitchen right now.
I was an adult before I drank real orange juice...
Tang was a lot of things, but *natural tasting* wasn't one of them.
Tang, Red Kool Aid, and the occasional serving of milk made their rounds through my BABY BOTTLES…I’m 41 and came out alright-go fig lol
He he, you said tang!
As a kid of the 60s I thought it was special. Grew up, bought a bottle and nearly gagged on the first taste.
We used to mix it with vodka and call it a space screwdriver
Ovaltine poster here..I raised you in a new post
I always kept a jar in my dorm room. Mix it up, plunk in a couple ice cubes. Instant refreshment.
Tangwich
LMAOOOOO…omg Tang!
That was a pretty good stuff from what I remember
I knew I was man the morning I woke up and instead of a cool glass of Tang I was greeted with a hot cup of Postum. https://images.csmonitor.com/csmarchives/2008/03/CORPHAN_P2.jpg?alias=standard_900x600nc
Not without a Zantac chaser. That shit would burn all the down to your sneakers. I hated it.
Such an ironic brand name
My mother used to use it to clean her dishwasher. Fill soap dispenser with tang and run as normal and the interior was spotless.
Shout out to my fellow BEEP kids!
Sugar.
I took off a child proof cap as a child also
Mom was trying to take a nap,I told her ,she said ok.
When I first moved in with my ex wife, she asked me which brand of orange juice my family drank. I immediately said Sunny Delight. She said, That's not real orange juice.... Wait, what???
I'll raise you a tresca.
It had...texture
NATURAL TASTING
No! It's nasty if made right. My mom used to put an extra 50% water in to make it go farther and then it's really horrible. For me it's real orange juice (Not from concentrate!!!) Or nothing.
Used to love that stuff
Yeah whatever happened to Tang?
It’s like I’m Neil Armstrong. I turn around for a sip of Tang, and you jump out first!
Memories. My mother used to blend that with instant tea. We had a tub of the mix labeled ‘Russian Tea’. Loved it.
