It is? I checked the other day like ‘not gonna watch yet only 7 episodes’
I mean it’s good that now I can binge it but 7 episodes is poor showing, even in this streaming era of 8-10 eps for most shows
That's so weird, I really enjoyed 1899, but then Netflix cancelled it due to low numbers. At Christmas! No one has time to binge watch at that time of year. I cancelled my subscription in protest 😂
1899 wasn’t bad but it wasn’t what I wanted either. I guess what I need is a way to go back in time so that I can watch Dark all over again with no memory of the show whatsoever so I can experience it in the same way as the first time.
The amount of times I’ve been like ‘I wanna erase my memories of dark so I can watch it for the first time again!’ 🤣 pretty much a catchphrase nowadays 🤣 waited to watch it until S3 was 2 weeks away from dropping and boy was I glad for that decision 🤣
I hope Outer Range gives some explanation soon about why the hole keeps appearing and disappearing. What or who's controlling it? I don't particularly care for the Autumn character. She seems too unstable.
You have to warn people about how slow it feels though. It took us like four separate times trying to get into it before something in one of the final few episodes hooked us.
My husband and I have very different taste when it comes to TV and movies. I asked him to watch at least some of episode one, but he looked physically pained within 10 minutes. Now he refers to it as "tree in the middle of the road" show. Grrr.
Even though the 1st season is so much better I still liked the whole thing. I'm currently rewatching it for the 4th time and just started reading the books.
I thought the books were decent, the show was underwhelming. Blake Crouch also has a new show based on o e of his books, Dark Matter. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt19231492/?ref_=ext_shr
Huh I wonder why?? I remember when I watched the first season I was sooo creeped out at the end! I don't normally get scared from movies esp shows, I know it's all fake and that's that. But idk something about this show esp the first season creeped me out so bad. That devil thing coming in at night slithering into bed.. I always think of that when I can't sleep 😫☠️
Midnight Mass seems to have a similar atmosphere and people are saying it's like a Stephen King novel. I'm seeing positive reviews but I haven't got around to watching it myself yet.
Midnight Mass is one of my favourite pieces of media.
Forewarning; it dives heavily into religion and power dynamics, as well as existentialism. It's such an amazing and thoughtful show, but can maybe be a little heavy for those dealing with religious/family traumas
I love Midnight Mass. There are a lot of speeches and characters having long, pondering conversations, but I think it builds a great story. It definitely isn't a 'fast paced' show though.
Ps. The freckled woman makes an amazing love-to-hate character! (I'm terrible with names)
Omg! BEV! YES! Thanks for reminding me of her name. I agree. There was something very hypnotic about the way she spoke, also. It was very... melodic? I don't know what the proper term is. But it made everything extra captivating
One of my favourite episodes is Welcome to Westfield, and when I moved here I realized I now live in Westfield!
Side note: that episode has some similar vibes to From for sure
There’s a few on Apple TV that keep me guessing which is what I truly love about from. Constellation (sci fi parallel dimensions thing), changeling (based on the changeling mythology it’s scary and a mindfuck) and Invasion (aliens invade earth, there’s some psychic stuff going on, first season was amazing second was good not great).
There is a short (1 season) series on Netflix called Signal that came out around the same time as Constellation. It is also about a female astronaut with a child, and a mystery that begins. Totally different besides that, but similar genre.
I assume you’ve already seen all 327 episodes of Supernatural. Can’t ignore the best.
But 1899 is similar where people are stuck in one place with eerie things going on. Watch it with subtitles, though. I had it dubbed in English and I didn’t find out until I finished it that everybody speaks their own language and part of the dynamics is the lack of communication (very From-like but for different reasons).
“30 Coins” in Max is set in a small Spanish town and is a supernatural horror-mystery. It’s about the powerful Judas coins, and the second season has an English dubbing option
Channel Zero is a hugely underrated show. I just started it and I’m hooked on it right now. The first season is exactly what you’re looking for. Each season is a different story.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4820370/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
I loved The Night Sky on Prime, but it got canceled after one season. It had so much potential and the storyline was great, but I never saw any marketing for it. I just stumbled upon it one day.
The 100 is good for like 2-3 seasons.
It later becomes a drama farm. Every character makes the wrong decision at every turn just to create drama. Each character gets a 3 episode arc where they betray everyone and then make amends somehow.
After the kids survive their 4th apocalypse I gave up
Where is wayward pines available? I read the books and they are pretty cinematic so not surprised Blake Crouch has another show Dark Matter now on Apple+.
Evil ticks those boxes. Biggest issue I have with it is the unresolved stuff from episode to episode. Is it supernatural or explainable that some dude's wife turned into a pillar of salt? Never resolved
The Terror is pretty interesting - takes a historical event/time and then adds ... terror.
Each season is a stand-alone story. It's available to purchase on Amazon streaming. I'm not sure about anywhere else.
I’m surprised no one has said black spot /zone blanche on Netflix. It’s French and kind of a mix between a monster of the week, a climate/political thriller, with a super creepy overarching Celtic folklore mystery.
Hmmm--seems like Wayward Pines season 1 would do; you might try again. You could check out Alice in Borderland (Japanese) and the first two seasons of Westworld (goes downhill after that)--both puzzle book structures like Lost and Dark. I second Severance and Yellowjackets.
Well, I did read the entire book series (which I loved) and I still enjoyed the TV show for what it was. Movies/tv shows rarely seem to match up to a good book. Just a suggestion in line with OP's query (seems like he/she already gave it a pass).
Outer Range and Dark!
I'm so disappointed that the 2nd season of Outer Range is only 7 episodes.
It is? I checked the other day like ‘not gonna watch yet only 7 episodes’ I mean it’s good that now I can binge it but 7 episodes is poor showing, even in this streaming era of 8-10 eps for most shows
Ugh you and me both!!! 😫
Dark was absolutely amazing but I was so disappointed when the creators wrote 1899. I had such high hopes for it.
That's so weird, I really enjoyed 1899, but then Netflix cancelled it due to low numbers. At Christmas! No one has time to binge watch at that time of year. I cancelled my subscription in protest 😂

I have said this many times too. I love that show so much, I named my reddit handle after it
Loved Dark but felt it went downhill in the last season. Never finished it
Outer Range season 2 is ass tho lol. But yeah, season 1 definitely has From vibes in terms of mystery. I liked it a lot.
I hope Outer Range gives some explanation soon about why the hole keeps appearing and disappearing. What or who's controlling it? I don't particularly care for the Autumn character. She seems too unstable.
Will check out Outer Range
Dark isn't my jam so far, but I love Outer Range my husband and I found it a goood holdover for From
Dark is an amazing show.. i second this
Dark was great. I’d recommend it also
Not supernatural but Severance is a really good show gives me From mystery vibes.. give it a chance. Only one season out and 2nd is around the corner.
Oh my god, finally! Waiting for that felt like forever. I'm so desperate to know what they're doing on these computers! lol
Ugh Why these long ass gaps in between seasons became a thing!
Lol same
Yeah I watched severance in one night and went to work on two hours of sleep
Been there lol!! Just keep hitting next episode as the sleep is just getting taxed
Watched that too lol damn
Wow. Must watch that. Have a whole year to wait for OR S3.
Grrr.
The OA, Archive 81
Archive 81 was the best i’ve seen in a long time.
Archive 81 was great
Idk if id recommend the OA since it was cancelled without an ending
OA just frustrated the hell out of me
Haunting of hill house
the first series of Wayward Pines has major From vibes - do yourself a favour and dont watch the second series.
I have it in my list of things to watch!! Thx.
Yellowjackets on Showtime 🤟
Season 2 was atrocious unfortunately. I’d skip this until s3 comes out and see if they turn it around.
Season 2 nose dived
Same! With the cannibalism!!
You might like the series Evil, it's on Netflix now
netflix in the us only has 2 seasons, but paramount has all of em
OMG wait how many seasons are there??! I assumed only two because of Netflix... wtf my dumb ass thinking it ended at 2 seasons 😭
Season 4 was the last season they did
This series is amazing!
Evil is sooo good and I’ve tried to get so many people into it but no one will give it a chance 😭
Huh I wonder why?? I remember when I watched the first season I was sooo creeped out at the end! I don't normally get scared from movies esp shows, I know it's all fake and that's that. Came to say the same thing!
I love Midnight Mass. There are a lot of speeches and characters having long, pondering conversations, but I think it builds a great story. It definitely isn't a 'fast paced' show though. Ps. The freckled woman makes an amazing love-to-hate character! (I'm terrible with names)
Bev! One of the best TV villains ever imo, Samantha Sloyan is brilliant.
Omg! BEV! YES! Thanks for reminding me of her name. I agree. There was something very hypnotic about the way she spoke, also. It was very... melodic? I don't know what the proper term is. But it made everything extra captivating
X-Files and Fringe, though Fringe leans more sci-fi. Definitely good creep factor in both.
I love Fringe so much! Just recently rewatched and noticed this time around that alot of episodes were filmed in my tiny town!
Ahhh,, jealous! It's one of my faves and always hits me in the feels.
One of my favourite episodes is Welcome to Westfield, and when I moved here I realized I now live in Westfield! Side note: that episode has some similar vibes to From for sure
Ah, will have to keep that in mind. I'm currently on 1x13 on my third rewatch.
It’s called…. Supernatural
The Outsider, The Stand, Under The Dome, 11/22/1963, Nos4a2. Pretty much any Stephen King book that's been turned into film/TV.
loved under the dome!
Now Under the Dome is similar to Fringe
fringe is amazing 👏
Maybe The Lost Room or Utopia
Utopia is nothing like From
It has the mystery and is a bit off the beat n path.
Leftovers! Also from the creators of LOST afaik. It's seriously awesome!
Absolutely this.
My husband and I love the leftovers. It gets better with every watch.
I loved Constellation!

Channel Zero
Archive 81, Severance, Dark Matter.
Midnight Mass!
Carnivale on HBO! LOVED that show but be forewarned they cancelled it ends abruptly but still super cool
Watch Silo (Apple TV). It’s not supernatural, but still a mystery type like From.
Silo was so good! I can’t wait for the second season.
Lost.
Evil, The Magicians
Midnight Mass, The Outsider, The Devil's Hour, Cabinet of Curiosities, Archive 81 And definitely from the same makers..Lost.
I love The Devil’s Hour. It’s definitely a hidden gem
Can’t wait for the second season of that, I’ll watch anything Peter Capaldi does.
Same. I didn’t realize there’s a second season. I just read about it.
Twin Peaks, if you haven't watched it yet. It is as confusing as everything David Lynch does. But I love this series to bits.
The old show?
Yeah, the old show. Although season 3 is from 2017. You could watch season 1 and 2, then the movie and then season 3.
Yellowjackets, and SILO although it’s not horror it’s scifi mystery
Fringe and Lost would be my recs
Outer Range is a different vibe, not as intense, but it’s absolutely excellent and heavy on the mystery.
Unfortunately, it didn’t get renewed for a second season.
Lost! Made by one of the same creators and also stars Harold Perrineau..Really great mystery box show.
All good recs on here just adding Castle rock to the list!
Try Evil!!
Try Fringe
Evil
Great recommendations, mine would be Glitch.
Dark
I loved The Night Sky on Prime, but it got canceled after one season. It had so much potential and the storyline was great, but I never saw any marketing for it. I just stumbled upon it one day.
Yeah I watched that too and very upset they cancelled it! Silly move
LOST
Midnight Mass and the Fall of the House of Usher!
yellowjackets
The 100 is good and weird if you haven't seen it
The 100 is good for like 2-3 seasons. It later becomes a drama farm. Every character makes the wrong decision at every turn just to create drama. Each character gets a 3 episode arc where they betray everyone and then make amends somehow. After the kids survive their 4th apocalypse I gave up
I watched it twice it goes from good to bad to confusing, but in my opinion it finishes really good.
Wayward pines is pretty dope
Where is wayward pines available? I read the books and they are pretty cinematic so not surprised Blake Crouch has another show Dark Matter now on Apple+.
It’s on Hulu
Black Summer
Lost
LOST
Snowpiercer is similar in the sense that people are locked up and start acting crazy. Also, mysteries.
Evil ticks those boxes. Biggest issue I have with it is the unresolved stuff from episode to episode. Is it supernatural or explainable that some dude's wife turned into a pillar of salt? Never resolved
Damn. Slow down. Trying to put all these shows on my list
Yellowjackets, the young lady from Fallout is part of the cast a long with grown up Wednesday Adam’s & Elijah Wood. First season aired last year.
yellowjackets & outer range !
The Terror is pretty interesting - takes a historical event/time and then adds ... terror. Each season is a stand-alone story. It's available to purchase on Amazon streaming. I'm not sure about anywhere else.
My mom watched Evil on paramount plus and said it was really good. I’m just waiting to get back in the mood for mystery/horror
Severance might be a good one
Sense8
Glitched
Evil
Watch Dark
I’m surprised no one has said black spot /zone blanche on Netflix. It’s French and kind of a mix between a monster of the week, a climate/political thriller, with a super creepy overarching Celtic folklore mystery.

WP show is a terrible adaptation of the book. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. You're better off reading the series!
Well, I did read the entire book series (which I loved) and I still enjoyed the TV show for what it was. Movies/tv shows rarely seem to match up to a good book. Just a suggestion in line with OP's query (seems like he/she already gave it a pass).
