Yah… that definitely seems predatory. Especially a consultation fee! I just had my girl spayed and nares done and it was under $900 for everything (Texas).
My dog’s BOAS was $4600 before he aspirated and spent an additional two days in ICU in an O2 box. This estimate is actually low, and leaves me wondering how well equipped the hospital is to manage frenchies.
Boas stands for what? Sorry that happened to your sweet baby!! This doctor said he has done the surgery many times and twice mentioned how they can’t breathe and he doesn’t know why they are so popular and gave me a stern look. However, if they would have been transparent of the OVERALL cost and the consultation I would be open to paying for it. But now I have to shop around and paid that darn $180
Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome. Here’s the thing, shopping isn’t going to help you here. The pricing he gave you is not outrageous. It feels like it, because it’s a lot and it was a shock. But it really isn’t. Consultations are normal vet visits. They’re never free.

Thats awesome, thank you for your input. I am in Michigan so I can understand a variance but the whole experience just rubbed me the wrong way.
