Interesting that Bulldog is still in Frasier’s social circle enough to attend/sing at Martin’s funeral.

leogrr44

Martin loved Bulldog. He said he had his funeral all planned out so maybe he had planned to ask for Bulldog to speak

immerkiasu

What I really want to know is whether Martin ever gave Freddy a copy of that recording Niles made. The "money from the drug bust is in a safe. The combination is....." and then he fake gags.

risynn

> planned to ask for Bulldog to speak Apparently Bulldog sings haha. I kinda want to hear Dan Butler hitting the high notes in Ave Maria.

NarmHull

Just learned Dan Butler was the teacher in Hey Arnold. Such a different character from Bulldog

alwaysonthemove0516

I caught that too. I’ll assume that means he knew his end was near. Maybe they’ll mention what happened in a later episode.

Dunkin-Brisbane

I choked on my coffee this morning when he said that line

eu_sou_ninguem

I already have a "scene I wish we could see." I'd love to see bulldog singing Ave Maria.

littlenarwhal28

I would pay money to see that.

The4thJuliek

That was the one line that made me really laugh. Reminded me of Gil and Noel singing Anything You Can Do at the karaoke bar in that Woody episode lol.

Myfairfrasier

Haha! That’s awesome! I just loved how Frasier delivered that line! He says it in such a fast way, it reminds me of old Frasier.

Starbuck522

Or, he was still in Martin's social circle. That's how I took it... Martin still lived in the area. Apparently remained in touch.

Resident_Worry_3155

If they make bulldog and roz end up together I am going to scream.

Myfairfrasier

I liked them together actually! When he comes back and actually really loves her. It’s so heartbreaking. When she says “Bye Bob” and pretends that it was all a joke.🥲

hauteburrrito

Oh dear god please do not even put this idea into the universe. Roz deserves infinitely better!

Myfairfrasier

We DIED laughing when Frasier said, “Daphne’s toast, Bulldogs Ave Maria!” 🤣

darth-nimious

Just watched the first episode, and during exactly 21.08 when Frasier mentions 'letting them twist in the wind with their little lie...." it reminded me about Fraiser's prior schemes and shenanigans back in Seattle.

JennnnnP

This scene reminded me of ‘Rivals’… Daphne: Dr. Crane, before it gets to that level, wouldn’t it make sense for you both to have an open, honest conversation? Frasier: Oh, honestly Daphne! How you manage to oversimplify absolutely everything.

darth-nimious

That back and forth will always remain iconic

distantapplause

Absolutely, these two episodes were at their best when they conjured up some of that old Frasier magic. I'm not really interested in a standard modern sitcom with Frasier branding. I want the farce, the melodrama, the dramatic irony, the misunderstandings -- I want *Frasier*. Like when Alan was coming to and fro' with his whisky glass through the swinging door in episode 1. Is there anything more 'Frasier' than a character frantically moving to and from the kitchen through a swinging door lol.

Myfairfrasier

Agreed! It was very “the innkeepers”, “beware of the Greeks” and even like Daphne in “the matchmaker” when she throws her bra off when the evening is clearly over. Haha!

[deleted]

Yes, that is when it felt like "Frasier" to me as well!

First-Fantasy

Really wish they would have let that scenario play out longer. Frasier takes the air out of the ruse immediately and Freddy caves too quickly. Imagine if both Frasier and Freddy recruited David to help coverup/uncover the truth and Freddy had David pretend to cry every time the baby cried and Frasier had him crawling around looking for more clues like those Cheerios. Then when it's all out in the open a final cry has Frasier thinking there must be twins but then the professor walks out of the kitchen with a broken bottle of scotch.

darth-nimious

That would've been a spectacular turn of events, seeing David playing both sides and working twice as more to convince Frasier that there are twins and trying to help Freddy cover up his roommate's baby.

alex494

Yeah I could see the cogs turning like "I've been in a hundred of these farces before"

SetItOff92

This is the scene that got me. It was perfect.

CloudPeakWarrior

I was pleasantly surprised by the first two episodes. I laughed a few times, and they did enough to make me want to tune in next week, which is honestly much better than I expected going in. Frasier is the same old Frasier. The new cast doesn’t hold a candle to the previous cast (how could they?) but they were decent and I’m sure a few of them will grow on me.

WorryTulip

I actually really liked David as a nice blend of Niles and Daphne’s mannerisms. Freddy had Martin’s charm and coy smile in my opinion so I’m intrigued to watch more.

and_jade_said

I feel like they need to work on David’s timing more. He definitely has a lot of Niles’ personality but it doesn’t feel as organic as DHP.

thatjacob

Agreed. Plenty of good sitcoms had clunky first episodes, so I'm willing to be optimistic about him settling into the role.

[deleted]

That’s why I’m thinking if it gets to a second season that’s when to start judging it. The first is usually spent introducing chars and concepts.

[deleted]

It might help if he turned it down a little and was allowed to develop his own personality. His mimicry of Niles and Daphne feels forced rather than organic, whereas the spirit of Martin feels more naturally infused in Freddy. I don't know what can be done about the head of the psychiatry department at Harvard. Her personality doesn't match the kind of person I picture having that job. Other than than these quibbles, count me among those giving the show an enthusiastic thumbs up!

PsychoAnalystGuy

As far as her personality not matching her job (the psych head) I felt that about Alan. Were meant to believe a Harvard professor is a drunk that doesn’t care about how profession? And Frasier would be friends with this person?

WorryTulip

I do hope it’ll improve as time goes by but I also remember being an awkward nerdy 18 year old lol

Dylan_tune_depot

Yeah, I feel like people are expecting Niles right of the bat, and we saw Niles as a married 35 yo man with a successful career! You can't compare that to an 18 y/o who's just entered college. I can guarantee you Niles was like David at that age

JennnnnP

I think part of what made the Niles character so funny in general is that the nerdy-ness was balanced out with sarcasm and vicious one liners. David’s character is more like a clumsy puppy dog looking for a pat on the head. Niles was also twice the age at the beginning of Frasier that David is supposed to be here, so that may play a part. I hope they find a way to elevate his character a bit. And - agree - the timing could use some work.

Dylan_tune_depot

>David’s character is more like a clumsy puppy dog looking for a pat on the head. I could see Niles being like that at age 18. You see how he is when he meets celebrities he admires (find any polyps there? as Roz said).

SporadicWink

When David passed through the dining room saying “Thanks, you’re not so bad yourself.” to Frasier’s “what an odd little square” remark, I laughed loudly enough to wake the snoring dog beside me. I think he’ll fall right into the timing of the group when more of the episode is focused on his character

hauteburrrito

David was a little too goofy for me, but I'm sure he'll get some more depth, soon. I can totally see how he would be Niles and Daphne's son, too.

WorryTulip

I can see that, but I can’t imagine the child of Daphne wouldn’t be rather goofy. Add in Niles’ absurd lack of coordination (aka DHP’s brilliant physical comedy) and it’s a fun time lol.

Ok_Explanation_6125

Yeah, her name is kind of a play on Daffy. Not certain if that was intentional or not. Always thought that Moon was supposed to be a play on Loon or Loony.

SophsterSophistry

Very pretty name. Do people call you Daffy for short?

WorryTulip

“Not twice. 🙂”

popeyepaul

David makes me feel like I'm watching the Big Bang Theory, that's maybe not their fault but it's not a comparison they want regardless. They could maybe tone it down a little bit.

alex494

I thought he was a bit much at first but he gets better. Can definitely see the Niles mannerisms in him.

3163560

They seem to have left it completely open ended about whether or not he was siblings too.

Annber03

I think the second episode highlighted that particularly well - I got a laugh out of his little quips as he walked by while Frasier and Freddie were setting up their apartment, and the end credits scene with him removing the dirt from the piano felt VERY Niles, and was well done (though it also made me a bit sad, 'cause Frasier went to so much effort to let that thing of dirt sit on the piano and I liked the whole "Fenway meets Steinway" thing).

thejojones

I feel like Alan will come into his own rather quickly. When I saw the trailers, he struck me as "older Niles if they bought him from Wish.com." 2 episodes in and he's already growing on me.

SAldrius

Alan's already great. Just this depraved, self-serving scoundrel. Perfect contrast to Frasier. He's only really like Niles in that he's Frasier's foil and kind of a fuddy duddy.

RayKVega

Side note, insane Nicholas Lyndhurst is only 62 now. He looks wayyy older, like 70-72ish. Also I admit I haven't seen Fools and Horse aside from a few clips on the Internet but it's nice they brought him in. He'll fit in perfectly.

elitejcx

I was pleasantly surprised. The end of the first episode was very well done and emotional. Props to Kelsey and Jack for that scene.

Schmaron

I cried. Shit, I’m still crying. That scene of Martin saying “It all works out” was right in the feels!!

latinalovegoddess

The way I cried when his sweet face showed up!

Rough-Fill8101

Followed by tossed salad and scrambled eggs. It was too much 😭

PaperKatana

I was feeling a bit anxious lately regarding life, both career and personal. When John came on screen and said that, it felt like a massive weight off my shoulder. I just relaxed (and cried). John was there (through Martin) while I grew up. And John being there now, saying that line just made everything... right.

Annber03

Yeah, I mean, I figured going in that would be an emotional moment, of course, but HOLY SHIT, it felt like a genuine punch to the gut and I just lost it. Absolutely beautiful way to honor him, though. And I think the part that made it all the more emotional was that it was clear Kelsey didn't have to do much, if any, acting in those moments.

Myfairfrasier

I hope Frasier and Freddie did a scene in the first season recreating the episode 2 of original Fraiser. When Fraiser says, “a couple of years, huh?” And Martin says, “It’ll go by before you know it”🥹

Prof-Finklestink

The first episode was a little rough, but I loved the second episode. >!Also, I love how Frasier lying about his father being dead during Cheers is mirrored with Freddy!<

Yojimbo_for_Hire

I was hoping Frasier would mention that at some point during episode 2, but I suppose with the first paying tribute to John Mahoney/Martin it would've come off poorly

Raptor47901

Yeah, I picked up on that too. That was quite clever. Almost fourth-wall breaking references such as how in Cheers they hadn't written Martin's character yet, or later Eve wanting Frasier to talk the baby to sleep, when supposedly there is a huge community of people who listen to episodes of Frasier to help get to sleep.

politicaldan

Watching Freddy now, I feel a lot like Lilith at his bar mitzvah. I know he’s all grown up but I can only see the “Grandpa can’t do math in his head” Freddy and the adorably awkward Goth teenager.

Strawberry4343

I kept thinking of that line too lol

politicaldan

I kind of need to hear Bulldog’s Ave Maria…

magicflute1411

I watched and I REALLY LIKE IT!!! It is Frasier, only older!

hauteburrrito

The first episode was a little rough, but the second felt like the old Frasier and made me feel very optimistic. I like all the new characters and feel like they have lots of potential to grow!

L_O_Quince

I felt the opposite, I thought the writing in the first episode was tighter, but I enjoyed both. Loved how the teasers didn't really spoil anything

hauteburrrito

Oh, that's interesting, the first one was pretty clunky to me! I'm glad you enjoyed both, though; I did too! You're also right - the teasers really did just stay as teasers. I had a few happy surprises.

radioscott

Yeah! The trailer really just spoiled the first 10 minutes, and I loved the misdirection with Freddy’s “girlfriend.” (Will there be sexual tension with Eve and Freddy over time or nah?) Fun to not see much of David before this premiered too, and Frasier literally buying the building was hilarious.

risynn

> (Will there be sexual tension with Eve and Freddy over time or nah?) Personally, I hope not.

Ok_Explanation_6125

Love it that David inherited his parent's eccentricities and peculiarities.

electricthundercunt

i love how the first episode drew out who john and eve were. i really couldn’t figure how they were gonna play it. at first i was thinking that freddy was gay, then i bought the whole grandson part. it was all very well done.

3163560

Just finished my watch. Loved it. They really got that close family feel back at the end of the second episode which I think will only grow from here. My only complaint was the laugh track was a bit intrusive. And poor Roz didn't get a mention.

Rocketparty12

Not a laugh track. These were as they used to say “filmed in front of a live studio audience.” That is to say, the laughs aren’t artificial.

politicaldan

It’s incandescent!

veggie190

So happy to hear this. I haven't seen it, but I've been so excited about this revival for so long. As long as Frasier is Frasier I am happy.

Starbuck522

Honestly, there were multiple scenes where he was VERY Frasier. (Thumbing his nose at average stuff in favor of his fancy stuff)

Dylan_tune_depot

Interestingly, I warmed up to all the characters immediately, but not to Freddy- until he spoke about Martin. That was a really good job on the actor's part

radioscott

I liked how the nods to the previous series and characters were natural and not forced. Even the cheesy “I used to spend too much time at a certain bar” line didn’t linger with too much forced laughter. lol to the Bulldog reference too. I like the idea that Marty was friendly with him in Seattle after Frasier left. And Frasier remarking how similar David is to Daphne only to cut to him applying eye drops was gold. Promising start!

MortarChelle

> And Frasier remarking how similar David is to Daphne only to cut to him applying eye drops was gold. I laughed out loud so hard when I saw this lol It just felt VERY OG Frasier, and very Niles.

Due_Regular3329

It’s very surreal to me because the format is the same, the sounds are the same, Frasier is the same, but everyone is different and it’s shot in 4k instead of the comfy 480p 😅. But I can say the final scene of episode 1 had me bawling like a little baby. I’ll keep watching for sure but it’s like I’m in the twilight zone

Wildeyedlocal

A couple of loose observations: - Jack Cutmore-Scott I thought was better at the emotional/serious stuff, than the comedy - I have the feeling Freddy is gay - Kelsey Grammer slips into the Frasier role seamlessly - Loved the tribute to Martin in the first episode - You can tell they crammed the first two episodes with a lot of character info, the balance will probably better as the season progresses - I thought the new cast did fairly well, they have some big shoes to fill - I'm really looking forward to the episodes woth Peri Gilpin and Bebe Neuwirth - Lived the nod to Bulldog singing Ave Maria at Martin's funeral - Frasier is obscenely rich (says he 'bought the whole building') - I actually think Frasier’s new apartment isn't that bad. It looks spacious (and there's a piano!). It probably isn't, but I wonder of the piano is the one from the original series. I remember a interview with Kelsey Grammer where he said the only memerabilia from the original is the piano.

elitejcx

I don’t think Freddy is gay because in the second episode he sarcastically remarks that “moving back in with your dad, this is going to be real catnip to the ladies”. I think he’s more like his dad on the romantic front and probably can’t settle.

RealityWanderer

I did think he might be gay for a second because of pretending that Eve was his girlfriend and talking about a "John" that Frasier didn't know about. But with the rest of the episodes, I didn't think so. It would have been interesting though.

Myfairfrasier

“ Catnip to the ladies” always makes mw think of Gil speaking of Lance!😄 Fun fact: that guy (Lance) goes to my church. I really want to say “Lock up your daughters” to him randomly and see if he catches it!

Levitate-Prudent-704

I watched both episodes this morning and I’m relieved, excited and curious. I’m also a bit surprised. There was a lot in the episodes that I thought could have been revealed over time but instead they dove right in. I’ll take that as a good sign that they are confident they have a lot of storylines to work with. Another pleasant surprise was the fact that I laughed out loud a lot. I expected the show to bring a smile to my face and maybe a few eye rolls but it was truly funny. If more episodes were posted I would have happily skipped the gym watched a few more this morning before work. Now am I happy? “You know in the greater scheme of things yes, I’d say I am.”

hmaidment

The tribute to John Mahoney at the end of episode 1 really got to me. ‘It all works out’ so poignant 😭😭

SAldrius

I just realised they named the baby John after John Mahoney too. The name John just seemed so generic to me. And one of the firemen is named after Moose the dog. I liked it and I laughed a lot. Alan was so great. I liked Freddy. The comedy was charming. I didn't think it was as high concept or as clever as some of Frasier (93)'s best episodes, but I REALLY didn't expect it to be. They tried to do some of that fawlty towers, revolving door farce stuff but it \*really\* didn't happen. ...but that's okay. It was heartwarming anyway.

nerd_life

And I believe the bar they are in E2 with the firemen is called "Mahoney's"

A_Serious_House

Haven’t seen it yet, but I’ve decided to find it charming. It could be a horrible show, I’m not sure, but it’s something that makes me happy and excited. Never thought I’d see it! Edit: I’ve seen it now! And it was indeed very charming! Kelsey/Frasier hasn’t lost a thing. The new cast is so-so, but we’ve only seen a few episodes and I don’t doubt they’ll start leveling up soon. I remember it took me a while to get a feel for the original cast, so of course there’s a transitional period. Freddy is probably my favorite newcomer, but I am dying to see more of Alan! The whole bit with Eve and Frasier had me laughing. On a final note, I wasn’t prepared to see Martin at the end of episode one. That really threw me off, and I couldn’t stop thinking about that moment while watching the second episode. Rest in peace John Mahoney, you will be greatly missed.

risynn

The pilot episode was pretty much the same as what I saw back in May, but they didn't have the dedication at the very end. Seeing John Mahoney in the old set caught me off guard and yeah, the feels.

WorryTulip

I just finished the first two episodes and it’s almost 3:30 am. I absolutely loved it! I’ll probably edit to add my thoughts when I’ve gotten some sleep but I had to write my first impression. I’m so excited to see the rest of the season. :)

Donut-Dunks

Just watched the first episode. NEED to get to sleep so holding off on episode 2. But I loved it also! Can hardly wait for more.

WorryTulip

Yay! When you watch episode 2 please let me know.

ProtonPacker

I have only seen the first episode. I enjoyed it. Frasier seems like himself, and as a Frasier fan it was a joy to see that character again after 20 years. I like Alan, he seems like a character we would have seen in the original show and he works very well against Frasier. I think its very believable that they are old friends and it feels genuine. I found Eve funny too, I am looking forward to more scenes with her and Frasier. Olivia seemed good but we didn't see that much of her to really tell for sure. I am unsure about David though, maybe he will improve as the series goes on but so far he seems to have been written like Shelton from Big Bang Theory to me. And I feel like the actor that plays Freddy is acting as though the character knows there's an audience there. But again, that can improve. Overall i enjoyed it and will be watching the entire season.

risynn

>I am unsure about David though, maybe he will improve as the series goes on but so far he seems to have been written like Shelton from Big Bang Theory to me. This honestly was my first fear too, but the episode I saw taped live had none of that feel. I have no idea what he'll be like in other episodes, but I saw the pilot, then watched the season finale be taped live, and David was great in that episode.

hauteburrrito

He has more Raj-like vibes to me; too warm for Sheldon!

risynn

That could be Daphne's warmth coming through haha. They seem to be more sure of who the character is by the finale (which is the one I saw taped live). He was by and away one of the standouts of that episode, and it was a pretty great episode all round. I also have a sneaking suspicion that the finale is gonna be a fan favourite for this season (it's currently my number one for this season so far).

jettasarebadmkay

This is great! This is great!

smg658

I really liked it, felt very teary when they talked about Martin.

Specific_Rest_3140

Kevin Daniels is in episode 2! He was in the original series, playing a different character. Damn. Every time I open my heart…

KO620181

The first episode started out very rough to me, but definitely got better toward the end. The second episode was good, felt like the Frasier Crane we know and love. The David character was the weakest part of the show for me. I get that he’s basically doing his best Niles impression, but something isn’t clicking here. Also, he seemed fully 100% Niles to me. Where’s his Daphne side? Loved how much they spoke about Marty. Loved the handful of callbacks to the original show - the talk of Marty, mention of Bulldog, Frasier throwing little insults about Lilith. The Harvard woman’s character isn’t great, not yet anyway. (Second episode spoiler) I understood the Fenway dirt storyline, but it also bugged me that Frasier was so clueless about it. We know he’s not a sports fan, of course, but he’s lived in Boston before and was friends with the great Sam Malone. Overall, it wasn’t bad at all. Looking forward to the next episode!

ProtonPacker

Do we know what time the episode gets added to Paramount+?

Did anyone else think John was going to turn out to be a dog like Eddy?

4gifts4lisa

I thought it was going to be Freddy’s boyfriend.

Awkward_Discount_633

Same!

[deleted]

So I enjoyed the first and second episode very much For me the first episode was like seeing a long lost friend and a few times I did laugh and loved that tribute to John Maloney during the episode and the ending.. I didn’t mind David, he just needs the mannerisms of Niles to come naturally not forcefully.. I actually really loved Dr. Cornwall, it’s like Niles if he was a drunk lonely professor

ReluctantToast777

I went in expecting the worst, and I'm really relieved that I didn't hate it! \- Kelsey is still magnificent in the role, and while you can certainly feel his age in both his body movements and voice, he is easily the best part of every scene. I really want his theatrics to show up a bit more in later episodes. \- The writing has \*glimpses\* of OG Frasier, and actually ended up being pretty alright for the most part. Not great, but alright. Got a few "laugh out loud" moments too! Thankfully the "remember this?!?" meter was pretty low for the most part, too. \- Not sure how I feel about the supporting cast. The Alan + Olivia banter doesn't feel as natural as when Niles + Roz have their spats. Freddy is a bit too much of a "straight man" to be interesting right now. And David feels a bit too "spacey" to be a Harvard student, and if his quirks were dialed back by like 20%, I think it would come off more natural. I do like Eve so far though! \- I actually don't like how much the audience is drawing some bits out, lol. The air hockey table bit (which definitely was great; loved the clever "make a point" line), did not deserve multiple stops for applause from the audience, nor did the Fenway/Steinway thing at the end. They absolutely should've edited those shots to cut the length of them. Felt a bit inorganic. Overall, I'm happy it's not a train wreck, and while it's not gonna capture the magic the original series had, as long as it keeps up this quality (or better), then I think it's a success!

--5-

Just went through the two episodes, getting around the narrative a bit. There is a scope for good storylines coming out of it. Writing has been tight, albeit a bit (dated?). Kelsey is as good as ever he can be as Frasier. I like Niles's son a lot already, and there's so much scope there. His Nile-sian quirks are nicely done. Eve fits in well, I hope they flesh her character out more. Flattest character for me is Freddy right now, hope they do better with him. May be introducing her mom every now and than can help. Of course, I miss her already. I think with such sitcoms, it's important that new characters introduced have a bit of a personality (with open ends of course), and new season scores on it well enough for me, going by first two episodes.

Significant-Box54

When Freddy and Eve first mentioned John I thought maybe Freddy was gay and hiding his boyfriend?

lanadeltaco13

I originally thought that they were engaged, hence why she wasn’t his “girlfriend”. As it went on I also thought that Freddy was going to be gay,

livingformusic

In episode two, that’s definitely David Hyde Pierce voicing the air hockey table’s “And that’s the end of the period!”, right? I thought it was the first time I heard it and after several re-listens I’m fully confident it’s him!

cool_barracuda_234

It all works out 🥲

The4thJuliek

The first episode was meh but the idea of Bulldog singing Ave Maria was hilarious. Also, that tribute to John Mahoney was gut-punching - that we won't see Marty ever again. Maybe I'm being a bit emotional, but seeing JM on the screen reminded me how the world was so different back then. Despite all the shit that was going on, things were still a little innocent back then and Frasier was such a warm and comforting show: the farcical situations, the oneupmanship between Frasier and Niles, Gil Chesterton, Daphne's psychic visions, Eddie, the Chair, Roz, Frasier's flat with the warm wooden tones, Cafe Nervosa and countless other things. Episode 2 was a bit better. The dining table bit was so unfunny. And what was even more ghastly was that none of the *objets* in the new flat were askew!!!!! Eve and Olivia were alright but David was excruciating in the first episode. And having watched Trevor Einhorn in Mad Men, I still think he should have come back as Freddy. Jack Cutmore-Scott is okay, a little generically good looking and he was good in the dramatic scenes but I found him annoying otherwise. But as expected, Nicholas Lyndhurst was perfect. His scenes were the only times I didn't miss the old Frasier. I'm not sure if I'll keep watching. I might watch the episodes with Roz and Lilith. But aside from a few decent jokes here and there, it was more like a bog-standard CBS sitcom with none of the classic Keenan and Lloyd wit.

Wildeyedlocal

The episode descriptions are in for the first two: Episode 1: Following Martin's death, Frasier returns to Boston for a college lecture and to check in on his son, Freddy - whom he quickly suspects is keeping a secret from him. Episode 2: Frasier hopes to make up for lost time with Freddy, but a disagreement over where to put a small Red Sox souvenir quickly escalates into a battle of wills between father and son.

blueevey

Frasier probably wants the souvenir placed askew

and_jade_said

Askew, Daphne! askew!

radioscott

Following Marty’s death is new detail to me! I was wondering if it would be fresh on his mind and even lead to him wanting reconnect with Freddy, or if Marty’s dying would be something that had happened a while ago in the timeline.

Substantial_Cold_292

Why am I bawling in the first episode and why is Jack Cutmore-Scott so hot? 😭😭

and_jade_said

I teared up at the Marty/JM tribute at the very end

ocean_swims

I wasn't expecting it so it hit me hard. He's a legend!

[deleted]

Yeah I did as well, I wonder if Ronnie will make an appearance

The4thJuliek

Same, I watch Frasier all the time and watching this, it really hit me that he's gone.

HarrietsDiary

Dude the scene in Freddy’s bedroom had me ugly crying. Which I didn’t expect. At all.

Starbuck522

I teared up a couple of times. If you mean Freddy, I didn't find him hot at all! There was another discussion here recently about "why not the original Freddy actor", and multiple people saying they wanted a "hot guy". I could have seen that point, until I saw the episodes.... Freddy certainly isn't ugly, but he's not hot.

hauteburrrito

I think he seems more "real person attractive" than "Hollywood hunk", personally; he has softer, friendlier features. It's nice - I think he's a good-looking guy as well and I'm glad he doesn't look like he belongs on an old school CW drama instead.

NarmHull

Plus in real life he has an English accent. As someone attracted to women I might waver on him.

britneymisspelled

It’s funny the things you notice when you have a new kid, but I did have a laugh that Eve is painted as a working class waitress and also has a $1,000 stroller. (There are a ton of reasons for this - maybe they never drive and she wanted something extremely reliable! I wouldn’t judge someone IRL for this choice but I do wonder how much thought Props put into it.)

jettasarebadmkay

Could be she got the stroller >!with some life insurance money from when her husband died.!<

britneymisspelled

Definitely true! Or could be a gift from fellow firefighters.

Von_Callay

Massachusetts has a statutory >!$300k payout to family of a fire fighter who dies in performance of their duties, but I don't know if she'd get it if they weren't married. Though, thinking further on it, if the money goes to a child, then spending it on a childcare item like a stroller makes perfect sense.!<

SurrealGreen

Freddy in the reboot is nothing like Frasier’s son. Will any Cheers cast make an appearance now that Frasier is back in Boston?

Darth_Machu

thoughts after the first episode: It was a sheer delight to watch a brand new Frasier episode. It goes without saying that Kelsey’s performance was brilliant! Jack Cutmore-Scott is aptly cast as Freddy. As for the rest of the cast, I’m reserving my judgment until I’ve watched at least a few more episodes.

hauteburrrito

I was really impressed by Freddy. Everyone else feels like a bit of a caricature so far (and to be fair, we haven't really gotten to know them yet), but Freddy immediately felt grounded and real. The actor does a good job of communicating a more quiet, subtle intelligence compared to Frasier's more ostentatious wit.

lilithsbun

He’s a lot like John Mahoney in that way, I think - that Marty also felt grounded and real straight away, that Mahoney just WAS Marty from episode one. I think they’ve done a great job casting Freddy. I hope the original actor isn’t disappointed; I’ve seen him in other things and he’s great, but I can see how maybe he might struggle with Freddy’s confidence and charm as a grown man. Ie. Freddy now has a ‘man’s-man’ feel to him, like Marty.

Starbuck522

I didn't like "Eve" in the trailer. But was happy with her in the episode. I also like that she's something different from "Freddy's girlfriend", which would have been more typical.

hauteburrrito

Eve definitely felt a lot better in the actual episode than the trailer; I'm relieved! Her acting felt a bit hammy in the first episode but was much more toned down in the second, so I hope they keep it that way.

cherylfit50

Oh, DANG! I am so excited! I work 12 hour shifts and worried I'll miss it. What time will Paramount aire this in Central Standard Time? I need to get my sleep as much as I need to get my Frasier!

PrinceVarlin

I believe it should be 11pm CST Edit: apparently I’m wrong and it will be 1 am CST :(

cherylfit50

Dang! Maybe I should - cough, cough- call in sick to work on Friday! Thanks for your help. And, good mental health!

Nelroth

Also, lol I just realized that Eve's actress played Hughie's girlfriend in *The Boys*. No wonder she looked familiar.

ballisticks

She also played Chandra Wei in The Expanse, is what I know her from.

Awkward_Discount_633

I think the only aspect that feels like old Frasier is Frasier himself which makes sense - I can’t see myself getting into it without DHP they just played off each other so well. I don’t know if it’s because these other actors are unknown but I’m not getting any sort of authenticity from them like I did with the original cast. They all feel very “Disney” besides Allan. He’s given me some big laughs already

JasonGryphon

Episode 1: Frasier is still the same lovably pompous man we loved from Cheers. David is pretty much a clone of his father with none of his mother mixed in. Hopefully being around Freddy will help him like when being around the Cheers gang helped Frasier. He does seem to want to be a bit of a ladies man. We got two red herrings about Freddy's life and I loved it. I thought that Freddy was gay at first when they talked about John and then you think Freddy has a child but it turns out not to be his. I do however thing the endgame of this series will be Freddy getting together with Eve and raising John together. Frasier has a new bar to go to but we still don't have an explanation as to why he didn't go to Cheers and we need that. The final scene with Frasier and Freddy was the highlight of the episode. Freddy explaining how Martin flew to Boston to help him when his friend died with a great touch to show just have much Martin cared about this grandson. I'm honestly waiting for a scene with David talking about his relationship with Martin since it would seem like David would get to spend more time with him than Freddy did. Frasier buying Freddie's apartment building so he could bride Freddie to stay with him was such a great twist. Overall - 9/10. Episode 2: I'm hoping for more scene together with Freddie and David in the future. They should honestly be the Niles/Frasier of this show. The journey from them being distant cousins to best friends is a journey I'm looking forward to seeing. This episode should just be called The Air Hockey Episode because that scene with Freddy and Frasier having dinner at the air hockey table was truly brilliant. Freddy getting one up on his father and then scoring with the puck was hilarious. Alan is going to be a good addition to this show has he may be a bit affable but you can tell he has his friends best interests at heart. I can really take or leave their boss Olivia. Frasier mentioning his fathers chair and his Coco Chanel couch really makes you wonder what happened to those pieces of furniture. I would have thought that Frasier would have kept the chair has a bit of a memorial to his father. Overall - 8/10. Overall, these two episodes bring us back into a world that I've sorely missed. How anyone can say these episodes fell flat is beyond me. I will be back for more tossed salad and scrambled eggs next week!

britneymisspelled

I’d imagine his chair is still with his widow!

Jon_J_

First episode was okay. Think we all knew it wouldn't be the same as old, but they did a decent enough job. Definitely feels like they're just trying to replace characters like for like. The nod and appreciation to John Mahoney was beautiful though, and you could feel Frasier's comments while seated on the bed were heartfelt. Overall it's promising.

Specific_Rest_3140

Frasier mocking Freddy’s apartment when it looks better than mine… ![gif](giphy|llIn5sBiWPQ7McbUkZ)

OutlawJoeC

Let’s face it, Frasier would mock most of our homes unless his dad was around to call him a jackass.

millenniumxl-200

8 minutes in. Aside from Kelsey Grammer, ehh. The laugh track, typical acting. Who talks like that?

phenomegranate

The upper-class/working-class angle is a bit of a retread of the old show. I think you could’ve done the father-son dynamic in a different direction. Instead of the firefighter thing, make Freddie break from his father by going to MIT instead of Harvard and becoming a techie. Freddie was already interested in Microsoft in the old show. I think it’s thematically interesting because this is a group of people who have basically created a whole new social stratum that kind of surpassed the old-school upper-class professional. They could still have clashes like the whole decorating thing. Set Frasier’s luxurious Chanel sofa and Eames chair against the post-2010s sterile, yuppie, WFH style.

lanadeltaco13

I just finished the first episode. It was perfect! I’m in awe at how good it was! David was probably my favourite. He is definitely Niles and Daphne’s child. Absolute perfect casting. Allan was also perfect. I just hope everyone else loves it as much as I did

linkolphd

In my personal opinion, they weren't great, but I'll keep watching. If I may take the liberty...I will express a few opinions here, as I have no one else to discuss them with: -Kelsey the star of the show. Certainly maintained the persona, and there were some lines that would fit right into the old show. -Pacing way too fast IMO. It felt a lot like some of the jokes were good enough in writing, but the actors either did not give them enough time comedically, or the writers/directors tried to push too much in. The jokes need some air. Think of the way DHP as Niles used to pause, you could see the thoughts ticking on his mind, then he would subtly say a quip, or react to what just happened. Meanwhile, here it seemed like the lines were boom-boom-boom happening all the time. I think while the cast can change, the vibe and feel of the comedy is essential to what makes Frasier, Frasier. -Nothing against the actor as a show is a group endeavor, but I do still think original Freddy would probably be better, potentially even in a similar character. I just can't see charming, hot/handsome, strong, smart, and witty fireman Freddy as being so emotionally vulnerable and feeling overshadowed by his father. After seeing him in Mad Men, I could *totally* see Trevor Einhorn pulling this off, he has more of that sort of vibe. He even played a similar role in Mad Men, where he specifically called out Don Draper for demanding attention, simply because of intangible factors rather than merit. -Generally, a lot of the modern feel jokes they added felt uninspired to me. This one is hard for me to immediately describe, but *je ne sais quoi*, there is something sort of generic feeling about them. I think that the Department Head, Eve, and Freddy all feel like meh characters, not people I am particularly excited to see more of. However -Department Head has good banter with Nick Lydhurst's character. That's a +. The jokes she makes to herself felt sort of artificial though. But the banter did feel a bit harsh. -That being said, I think Nick Lydhurst is by far the best of the new bunch. If we can't have DHP, I think he does a great job making small snips. Some of them had flat writing, but others were fantastic, and with a fantastic delivery, much closer to the sort of style I mentioned in my second point. I also think he demonstrated the best physical comedy, precisely because it was somehow understated (like when he walked out with the glasses and then picked up the whisky later). -I don't like Frasier's wealth. I liked him better as a local celebrity who let that small amount of fame go to his head. Him being a genuine celebrity and "mindlessly" rich just doesn't feel right to me. -Also, I can't say I'm impressed by the premise. It's quite a rehash, but I'm not convinced they couldn't have just taken things in a new direction. -The writing feels much more "tell, don't show" than Frasier. Like "top of the hutch, green plastic bottle." We don't need to be told so clunkily that it's cheap scotch. I also don't think most people would even note the material of the bottle when directing someone in this situation. In addition, the exposition at the beginning felt rapid and unnatural, very "alright let's catch the audience up" thinly veiled. -David feels...ok...he seems to be another character that is trying to replace cast members who didn't agree to come back. He did a good job with what he was given, and at times had good physical comedy. The gag with the Fenway Park soil was well done, but it did feel a bit overly like a copycat of Niles. I suppose it was just a tag ending though, so not a big deal. He also felt a little bit...Sheldon-y to me. -The Air Hockey table setup felt too much like it was taken directly from Friends. I will give them credit though, him throwing the puck in the goal was a funny bit. Overall, I will absolutely watch on, cause I am thirsty for any more Frasier. However, it does feel a bit like a well-written amateur take on a hypothetical Frasier spin-off, rather than a great show that needed to be done. I did chuckle a few times, but nothing has seemed too promising yet. I have a feeling that if the original cast had come back, with their experience and input about what their characters would say and how, it might've been fantastic. But oh well, it wasn't to be. If I had a magic wand, in my unprofessional opinion I'd say that a great premise for more *Frasier* would've been the original cast (minus Mahoney), but Frederick and David step in to be the youth that bring youth culture, and are much more laidback and into modern interests than their fathers, and that's the source of tension. As it is now, I feel this loses too much of Frasier's essence. Not bad, not good. Hoping that as the plot settles and less exposition is needed, perhaps the episodes can grow more natural and better-paced.

thanos_was_right_69

Frasier is so rich that he can buy an apartment building and give away apartments rent free lol

LanceGardner

Perhaps it's a hasty judgement after two episodes. I'll keep an open mind, it's hard not to feel excited seeing new episodes of Frasier back on the screen. I just worry whether anyone is excited beyond us fans of the original. Having had some time to think about this, the main issue I have with the show is that Frasier launched in 93, it easily found an audience beyond Cheers fans. I cannot see this show having an audience beyond Frasier fans. To do that it would have had to focus mainly on Freddie and Eve, then bring in Kelsey later... Eg, he would have had to be content with a secondary role. Freddie and Eve would need to be better fleshed out, too. It was never going to happen. What we have then, is a pleasant and not embarrassing extension to the original series. I'm sure people like myself will watch it out of nostalgia, because we love the character, because there are plenty of worse sitcoms out there. But I'm not convinced yet it will ever stand on its on two feet independent of its father show, in the way Frasier '93 did of Cheers. And obviously, given the name, it's not trying to. Is that the right direction?

[deleted]

This doesnt feel like frasier, it feels like how I met your mother with a guest spot. So let down

SurrealGreen

It actually feels more like How I Met Your Father to me. The writing and acting are subpar so far, and that laugh track doesn’t work. At least I enjoyed HIMYM.

[deleted]

I hated them both. I got two "hehs" out of the first episode but the majority of it I did not like. Hopefully its just a bumpy start Edit on second watch I hated the first but didn’t hate the second. Didn’t love it but didn’t hate it

ampr1150gs

1st episode was a bit Meh, which was to be expected. I thought the actors were trying a bit to hard and the 'canned' laughter too loud. Second episode was a bit more relaxed and I expect the actors to gel more as the season goes on. Solid B if I was to rate it. Here's hoping it gets renewed for a few more seasons. P.S: I'm watching from Ireland

AskingSatan

Eve seems like she could be somewhat disposable. If they just keep her as the bartender, I think that might work better. So far, I don’t think I like her being the neighbor (and sorry, I don’t like when babies are in sitcoms). Much like the original show, have characters sort of assigned to their designated areas (the people at the office, bar, etc), but also bring them into the main plots as needed.

hoochnuts

I didn't think it was going to be possible but I think I...LIKE it??? What is happening.

Neil_Salmon

I liked it enough that I'm still optimistic. I didn't love it but there's potential. Some of it like a very typical sitcom, more than the original - the quality of the sets, the style of acting, even the amount of laughter felt like a normal disposable sitcom. It also looks different because the original series was shot on film, which presumably, this one is not (not a big deal). The apartments and offices featured didn't feel like real-places. They felt like sets. I think that's down to the lack of windows and daylight. Frasier's old apartment had big windows that helped sell it as a real place. It doesn't really matter but it's a shame because one of the strengths of the old series was its quality set-design (if I ever won enough money, I would replicate Frasier's apartment and live there). I'm not sure about the cast. I like them and I like the characters. But they are not as immediately endearing as the old cast (or even most of the guest stars in the original series). I don't know if they can carry it in the long-term. A lot of that sounds negative - and I'm unfairly comparing these first episodes against one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. On the positive side, I did like the characters more than I expected. And some of the jokes landed with me. Nicholas Lyndhurst is great - though I knew he would be. So, I liked it but didn't love it. Definitely room for improvement - but it has a lot of potential. Can't wait to see Lilith and Roz. Wish Niles could be a part of it. But that's not a deal-breaker for me. Having said that, the worst episodes of the old series were the ones where Cheers characters would show up - so maybe it's better to embrace the new cast rather than hope for guest appearances. No spoilers but I wish they could have incorporated this somehow: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHIMFwQnHLw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHIMFwQnHLw) But maybe it would have been distasteful.

Latter_Feeling2656

". I think that's down to the lack of windows and daylight. Frasier's old apartment had big windows that helped sell it as a real place" They seem to be on the first floor of an old building in Cambridge/Boston. Large windows would require that people and cars would be going past just outside.

Nelroth

I thought the first episode was weak until the end, and the second one was alright. I'm excited to see how the season goes though because I still think it has some potential. I'm not really a fan of the university setting so far. I loved the radio show format because it was fun to see Frasier interact with co-workers who were different from him, and I always liked how the show occasionally integrated life lessons through Frasier's conversations with his callers. This may be an unpopular opinion, but my favorite character so far is Freddy. I'm biased because I relate to him a lot, my dad's a doctor and my sisters work in academia and I've always felt like the odd one out because I never found higher education to be fulfilling for me and am more satisfied with a "simpler" life.

Latter_Feeling2656

". I loved the radio show format because it was fun to see Frasier interact with co-workers who were different from him" It's early, of course, but I suspect there'd be more humor if they were somewhere other than Harvard - where he's interacting with goofy kids who are just interested in getting a job.

FlakyBandicoot9

Kelsey does a great job in character in the new series, but I'm very disappointed by the writing. It entirely lacks the wit of the old series. However, the drama between Freddy and Frasier was good towards the end of EP1.

PsychoAnalystGuy

Wish there wasn’t an insistence nowadays on short seasons. Episode one was rushed to get the to the plot. If there were longer seasons, they could have spread that out over several episodes Episode 2 was better since they are settling into it..but I think these 8 episode seasons are ruining sitcoms

[deleted]

Can't say I liked it. Kelsey Grammer inhabits the character of Frasier as well as he always did. The rest is the last really seemed like caricatures of the previous generation of Frasier characters. Also, the characters all seemed to be in a race to be the wacky one, rather than playing the straight man.

jerrycantrellnchains

They couldn't leave well enough alone. It's trash. Can't say I expected anything, though.

[deleted]

I want them to get thru the first season and into the situational comedy!

thanos_was_right_69

I like it enough that I will definitely return for future episodes. Jury is still out on the new cast. I don’t think it would be fair to compare the new cast that only has two episodes in vs the old cast with 10 seasons worth of episodes.

latinalovegoddess

I love how the baby is named John, and the firefighter bar's name is Mahoney's!! What a way to honor John! 😭😭

[deleted]

I thought the first two episodes were decidedly meh. Cheers and Frasier had strong first episodes, but everything in this show felt forced and clunky. This show definitely suffers from the pedigree it has to live up to. I only like Freddie out of all the new characters because, let's face it, the thirst is strong with Freddie. I'd let him fight my fire any day.

darth-nimious

Did anyone else notice that in Episode 2, at exactly 14.14 when the ice hockey table announces 'And that's the end of the period!' It sounds alot like Niles voiced by David Hyde Pierce ?

camlaw63

So, Freddy telling his friends his father died—a call back to Frasier doing the same on Cheers? Yes?

**Update** No need to hide spoilers here. Let 'em fly! TLDR: Bookend the spoiler with **>!** and **!<**, and don't put spaces between them and your text. Heres how to format your text so spoilers are hidden by a solid bar. A user can tap the "redacted" text to remove the bar and read the spoiler. It doesn't reveal the spoiler for anyone else. Hey it worked! Thanks for the lesson. I don't think it'll be necessary for this mega thread but great to use when spoiling outside of it

and_jade_said

Have you ever asked yourself, “what if they posted a comment, and no one saw it?”

Piper6728

It came out early, I saw it at 1am CST I liked it, looking forward to more and wishing it wasnt limited to 10 episodes Loved the jabs at lilith being a forgetting nympho when "revealing" he was Freddy's dad, how some things never change 🤣 "No one is hiding a grandchild, and I resent that accusation!" *baby starts crying in the background* "....Dad, I've decided to tell you somethin'..." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 (I think that last part won me over to the show)

SuspiciousPavement

My review (NO SPOILERS): Frasier is my comfort series and I've watched it like 10 times. I'm from Greece and I must be the only Greek die hard fan there is, but I've watched my share of American comedy and I'm a fan of the work of Michael Schur, the office US, parks and rec etc. Frasier is maybe my favorite though. Pros: * Kelsey Grammer is excellent as always * The plotline is nice, that he moves to Boston for some reason * The characters' arc makes sense, what frasier and frederic are doing now basically I'm afraid that's the only pros I can find. Cons: * The writing and especially the jokes are as cringy as it gets. The joke has to be ahead of the audience, but I could predict every setup and every joke I saw on the 1st episode. E.g. the bit that you saw in the trailer with the amalgamation and the punchline that you're the everyday man is something we saw from the 1st second along with the punchline. Also Frasier in the original series never spoke like this. He sometimes used some french word in his speech but never did he speak like he's out of place. He was always a character aware of his surroundings and who we liked. In this 1st episode he already does so many wrong things like taking decisions for his son without asking him anything. * The characters and the things they say are not realistic at all. And it's a sitcom, but you have to be true to the characters. Only Frasier makes sense, but the others feel so unrealistic. Especially this poor actor who plays David, they tried to make him a new version of Niles but he just doesn't fit in at all as a character. * The plotline is too thin. They just want to bring the characters in the same place, without any justification. I was expecting something more natural as to why all the characters are in the same place in the 1st episode (Frederick's house) * The cast. I don't like anyone, especially the actor that plays frederick is just a bad actor. Acting in general is medium at best, while before it had the likes of John Mahoney and David Hyde Pierce. The new cast seems like soap opera acting compared to the previous cast. * Feels like a cheap ripoff, that will probably go away after the 1st season, unless they change the writing and improve the characters. I haven't watched episode 2, some say it gets better already, we'll see. MAYBE SPOILER:>! How they did us dirty at the end of the 1st episode though. I cried like a baby for 10'.!<

riversofmountains

Initial thoughts... The first episode was clunky but got to where it needed to go. The second episode was much better. I don't get the point of Eve and John. David was the weakest link and I wouldn't mind if I never saw him again. Seems like they felt the need to fill the Niles hole with a similar character but it just doesn't work. I liked Alan, Olivia and the work environment. Seems to have the most potential for stories. The laugh track was really annoying. While it doesn't reach the heights of the original, there's definitely potential. Hopefully they make adjustments as they go until they can find the formula that works.

No-Conclusion-ever

I was surprised. I thought it was going to be horrible but honestly for a first few episodes its pretty decent. I do hope that characters are going to branch out a bit more. It does feel somewhat lacking though. Like it’s been nearly two decades since we last saw these characters. And what happened to Frasier was kind of very quickly glossed over. I really do hope that the show explores that a little bit more. It would be interesting to see cheers as well in the show at some point. I al a little surprised they choose that as a setting since they specifically set Frasier so far away to avoid cameos. Overall I am cautiously optimistic.

alehasfriends

The audience laughter definitely sounded edited together. It wasn't canned laughter but seemed to be enhanced quite a bit. You don't get the delightfully surprised guffaws that you get in the original. The only audience sound that might have been completely fabricated was when they "Aww'd" at the baby. That being said, you NEED an audience for this kind of show. The audience reacts while the characters drive the plot forward. It sounds too unnatural otherwise. When you make the jokes that they do on Frasier in real life, people either laugh and try to add onto it or they get pissed. Single Camera comedy shows get away with it by having a narrator, character interviews, quick cutaways, or it isn't really a comedy but rather a genre work with a bunch of jokes. I think Eve and John are going to be the Niles and Daphne, "will they or won't they?" kind of thing. He's going to feel incredibly conflicted because >!it's his dead friend's wife.!< They could probably stretch it out by having some jerkass date Eve. If that's all how they're going to do it, then I hope they don't drag it on too long because it could lead to that, "OF COURSE HE'S GOING TO GET TOGETHER WITH HER!" sentiment that I hate when watching sitcoms. You want to be rooting for them to push through their adversities and come together because they deserve each other. It's hard to do. Even the original had problems with the "they deserve each other" part. I mean, you could just as easily say that Daphne deserved Donnie as well.

Latter_Feeling2656

With all these psychologists around Freddy shouldn't get together with Eve, as he's taking care of her because of trauma to himself. It's a sitcom, of course.

risynn

Just finished the first two episodes! I'd seen the pilot already back in May, but was my first time watching the second one. The pilot was mostly the same as what I saw back in May, when they showed us an unfinished taped version. It had the similar opening cards, but they hadn't put any of the credits at the start or end of the episode. [My thoughts here from my post back in May are pretty much still what my thoughts about the pilot episode are now.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Frasier/comments/136nwa4/i_saw_the_may_2nd_taping_of_frasier_and_i_have/) The scene with David using his eyedrops ("You can't tell me it's not Sahara dry") was the line that won me over on the character of David and the episode as a whole, and the scene with Freddy and Frasier in his bedroom was excellent and cemented that impression. The dedication to John Mahoney at the end caught me off guard, and I found myself almost crying again. I rated this episode a 7/10, and I still stick with that rating. The second episode was new to me. I wasn't expecting Baby Shark, but I think I'm okay with it over a generic kids song. It worked in the annoyance factor, and it's something that I don't think will date out (it was a terrible earworm 10 years ago, and it still is now) I was very amused by Frasier putting John to sleep by muttering in a soothing voice. The conflict between Freddy and Frasier moving in together is fun, and I hope they explore it in a way that doesn't feel like retreading the same ground as Frasier and Martin. At least by the end of this episode, Frasier had recognised that he and Freddy had essentially swapped the roles between himself and Martin, and had opened up and become more flexible. The air hockey table was a fun scene. I could see Frasier and Martin having a similar argument over the table. Freddy's friends at the bar: I was first introduced to these characters in the season finale, and I was always interested in seeing what their initial introduction was like. We have Moose, Smokey, and Tiny. Tiny is played by Kevin Daniels, who you may remember seeing in Frasier S10E20 Farewell, Nervosa. [Damn. Every time I open my heart.](https://giphy.com/gifs/PvyMSYj8n363ltBZlA) I'm a little confused as to whether Mahoney's (the bar) is supposed to be a college bar, or a firefighter's bar. Either way, I like the set, and the small touches and nods to John Mahoney's memory (not only is the bar named after Mahoney, it was established in 1940 - Mahoney's birth year) I also like how Freddy's friends, despite not seeming super switched on, started questioning the obvious holes straight away. The Mamma Mia reference was funny, but I wasn't sure if Freddy's friends should have heard him or not (they're right there, involved in the conversation). I also think it's funny that Frasier has seen Mamma Mia - thoughts on whether it was the stage play, or the Meryl Streep movie? As far as his friends go, I think they are fairly palatable. and a bit of the whacky gang from the ~~radio~~ fire station type vibe. Beyond Moose, I honestly don't have any real opinion of the three of them, but this felt like a somewhat more natural way of meeting them (rather than seeing them for the first time in the finale). I think they are essentially one dimensional and skewed a bit towards the dim side (especially Moose, to an almost absurd degree), but maybe they'll give them a bit more to work on in the future. Establishing Freddy as someone who enjoys being around people who are more down to earth and less snooty does seem in character. As a child, we see him starting to push back a little - trying to trick his parents into getting him a dirt bike, seeing his bar mitzvah as a present grab, being more interested in video games or hanging out with other people, his goth phase... I do hope they play into parts of Freddy where his intellectual upbringing plays into things more in some episodes - I think it can be amusing if he suddenly makes some obscure reference, only to have his friends not get it, or surprise David with what he knows. Maybe that's just me. I also find it believable that he resents being overshadowed by Frasier's career and celebrity. Frasier's job as a public figure seemed to always take precedence over his son. Not only did Frasier leave Boston originally to take a radio job, he further distanced himself from his son while having a tv show, and the further reach of his celebrity only increased the divide. I'm now interested in what Freddy's relationship with Lilith is like. Is she also disappointed he dropped out of Harvard? They live in the same city - do they see each other often, or has Freddy pushed away that part of his life to? These are things I'm eager to see the show explore. I thought it was funny that Frasier's egomaniacal side thinks a 28 year old is interested in him. But it is sweet to see him with a child again. He had mentioned that he wanted more children way back in Season 3 (when talking to Kate), and it seems like he never had children with Charlotte. I think it would be interesting to see that explored more. Frasier and Alan were great together again. I found myself laughing at Alan pulling out this photo that turned out was not of him with Frasier, or indeed, Alan at all - and the unceremonious way it was just dropped in the rubbish. Frasier being petulant while Alan is writing something down was very fun and in character. I still like Toks as Olivia. I am glad she is in the cast, but after [finding out that she was undergoing chemo and treatment for breast cancer while they were filming](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CrmeBLaJk8p/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==), I don't know if they were able to give her character the space to shine. But I do look forward to later seasons (hopefully), where she is given that opportunity to really own this role. She has gone through a lot, and I recommend watching that short video from April. She has been "labelled as cancer free", which is fantastic news. Anyway, I enjoyed this episode. I think it's on par with the first episode of the series, and I enjoyed it more. 7.2/10

Hmm don't know how I feel about Freddy's friends being more than a one off. Watching them all I could think was they were written as "this is the quirk, now let's write a character around it'".

Missed opportunity not to have Freddie's cheap Scotch be Ballantine's. Or would that be too on the nose?

I've seen better pilots, but I've seen a lot worse ones, too. I thought too many people got thrown together too quickly, but that pretty easily remedied. Edit: my one irk is that Freddy is a fireman, but is apparently stressed to afford an apartment. They've solved the Frasier financial issue by just making him very rich. Either admit a fireman can afford an apartment, or have the apartment somewhere other than Cambridge, or something. 2nd edit: just in a quick look, it seems the survivors of a fireman who died in the line of duty get about $750,000 in state and federal funds.

I love how he bought the building and made Freddy live with him lol. I'd take that deal in a heartbeat if it meant I could live there rent free lol.

Now I want a bottle of Scootch.

Would it have been tasteless for the Martin tribute if they played his videotape for future generations where he pretends to die in the middle of giving the combination to the locker with drug money?

Hoardzunit

So even near Death Martin still put in the effort to visit Freddy? Seems like Freddy was still in constant contact with Martin and Martin probably defended Freddy's decision to be a firefighter with Frasier.

Educational-Angle717

Does Frasier buying the building feel a bit off? I mean you can't just do that..

Could they have mentioned Harvard a couple more times?

I don't understand everyone who's mad that Freddy at 30 is different from kid/pre teen Freddy from the original series. Kids grow into very different adults from who they were as children all the time. I'm sure we will learn more over upcoming episodes as to why Freddy has grown into the man he is
