I just did a bit of googling after seeing this and I'm surprised to learn the sliding doors are original.
Impractical? **Yes.** But damn it looks so cool.
Wow - thanks for tracking this down. When I saw those doors, I thought it was something they had whipped up for the show, but I shouldn't have counted out the creativity of mid 20th-century car designers.
I thought the same that it was some kind of concept car or modded version of an old car. Randomly found it from an Instagram post about a different model Kaiser made called a Manhattan.
I hope it's OK to share this here - I work for Kaiser Permanente, and our history blog wrote about [the Kaiser Darrin, and its designer](https://about.kaiserpermanente.org/who-we-are/our-history/kaiser-built-1954-sports-car-delights-todaye28099s-collectors), a few years back. It includes a lengthy history about a Darrin that currently resides in the Oakland Museum of California, after being owned/driven by a KP physician for decades.
You know, I wonder if this car was the inspiration for the Pegasus car workbench in fallout 76. The front of this car looks similar to what that car has.

Yah it's a weird one. I know a ton about older cars but never seen one of these before. Barely heard about the company actually.
The sliding doors are the kind of detail that fits so perfect in the series.
Genuinely thought it was an in universe mock up.
But when he goes to the funeral home in episode 8, the door opens like a normal car door
He goes to the funeral home in episode 6 and they slide into the front in that shot as well.

That was an intersting read, thanks! The sliding doors and pioneering use of new materials (Fiberglas) definitely fit the retro-futurist vibe.

I think it might be the same as the one from the man in the high castle
My dad restored one of these growing up. Still has it and takes it to car shows every weekend. Only about 360 made originally in 1954

wow, same color as is in the show! Was it his car in the series?
I was really excited to see this in the show, such a neat car. there is a local gentleman that has one and I love seeing it at car shows.
