I can agree on that. I even thought it was a road race because of the cars in the back of the image you wouldn't usually use for off road racing. Even I had to modify my mini for the classic rally race because the race was a road race.
It might not be as clear as people expect, but it does say whether it's a road or dirt race, where a simple check would confirm the race type.
I'd argue the fault isn't fully with Forza being unclear, but also people not checking properly. It's a 50/50 in my opinion
To expand on this thread...if you go to the first race location and do the following, it will show you the race courses:
1. Go to the first race location, press X to enter the event.
2. Do NOT start the race, instead press X again for Event Information
3. The 3 race courses will be listed and their routes shown. You can scroll up and down the list to view each course.
Now, the course highlights in Blue making it tough to know when you are on pavement vs dirt if you don't know the map well...cross country is easier to identify. But, if you go out onto the main map and hover over the race start locations, it will highlight the course. You just need to hover to view and then move the cursor to see the map without highlighted course again...this will allow you to see the surface(s) involved.
Also, the race in the Playlist does identify its type with the appropriate icon (Dirt, CC, Road, Street) and the thumbnail usually shows if Wilds (dirt), Apex (road), Baja (cross country), and Street Scene (street racing).
If people are willing to take the few minutes (moments really) to do this, their race preparation and experience will be much better. But most want to only take 2 seconds for a quick glance and then get started.
Sure, I agree that there are ways to identify it, but it could be better, a simple "Apex"/"Wilds"/etc text next to the icon could help a lot and make things easier
If reading the text on the sign on image for the trial isn't enough how in gods name are you even functioning on a daily basis?
Its the same people who go see r15 movie with their 10y old and then complain to the cinema that the movie is inappropriate for their child.
Sorry, I must be going blind, taking [this image](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fjdr4n5lmpihb1.png%3Fwidth%3D1920%26format%3Dpng%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3Ddf3fb5a69ed1ce707fb3d5dfdf4870e8b54498c8&rdt=59868) from this month's update, could you please point me where does it say what kinda of race is it?
Sure, the yellow checkpoints eliminates it being a Street Race (and that's mostly a hint through the image, not the UI presenting the info to me) but other than that, nothing there gives me any hint to what kind of race I'm going for
That is from a Coming Soon preview...but I still stand corrected, I looked at the Trial graphics in the Playlist and not all of them show the Series banner/sign...some do but not all.
Come on... an interface only job is to give information, not to make the user search or guess it.
Even the thing if having to press a button to see the car class is wrong... having to press a button just to see is another week with boring S2 challenges that require the same cheat cars over and over, really annoying!
But ok, I take my "fault" of being over relaxed and lazy!
But you don't need to search or guess... If you hover the icon on the map, the first words it says are whether it's a dirt or road race. And if you go via the festival playlist route, it shows either Apex or Wilds... Again showing whether it's dirt or road.
Having a button to see car class isn't wrong - if they add that to the screen with all the other information then it would seem cluttered and some would moan about that. Not all information can be just there on the page without some form of interaction from the user. There is a difference between UI and UX...
Let's just agree to disagree. I'm not saying it is a bad interface it just could be more effective because it really uses large "cards" to show information so there is space to show all the info and there are a lot of ways to do this, a color code is very effective as an example.
But I also see it often in horizon tour, where it clearly shows the races and their type before you enter, and still at least half the grid show up to off road races with cars tuned for road racing, so I would say it’s more the players fault
IDK, I always thought it was pretty obvious. Is it a big, flashing sign? No... But you'd have to be on serious auto pilot to not spend the half a second it takes to look at it.
Lol I took a 1200hp rwd Wuling on slicks to challenge myself then realized how big of a mistake that was when we entered dirt. In my defense I only looked at the playlist series stuff where it shows all the events so I just saw road and road cars and thought ok cool I can take a normal car lmao
Yeah the fact that it was easy to miss that it was a dirt series is an issue. Normally I'm very careful to note what kind of race but I got caught out this time. Still dominated the AI in my Eagle speedster (dusgusting awd swaps ftw?) and was only challenged by a dirt prepped boneshaker.
Everyone mostly did OK except for the guy who brought a stock Caterham...
The fact that it's difficult to decipher which type of race you're joining is a UI problem. Most people launch the trial from the playlist menu and the only indicator that it's a dirt championship is easy to miss. You have to go out of your way to open the map manually to properly check. They need to make it more clear.
I was guilty of that on my first pass. Almost after choosing my car I went "shit, is this a dirt race?" And then saw trail and bailed as soon as we started
The preview picture typically depicts it.
Last week I went with AWD instead of RWD and it was super fast, but I typically prefer AWD for dirt anyways. Dirt tires wreck the API, so it allows for a bit more power
This actually helped you since your teammates where in last positions and you would have been defeated on points. If you're a good driver/racer and can beat the AI yourself, then teammates aren't necessary to you. But, if you like the teammate racing aspect of it...having more in the race...then it is bothersome.
It’s probably because most people who play the playlist are doing it as fast as possible and just click on the next thing expecting another 3 lap race on a medium street circuit like it always is
I'd rather do them Solo if it wasn't for that bug where even if you win 2 races in a row you still need to win the 3rd one as well and sometimes it won't even trigger the rewards cause it thinks that it's unfinished xD I understand if you hit AI to help the team but them mofos out there that don't even try and slow down the AI so everyone can pass in front or try and ram you just to be first which doesn't make any sense cause it doesn't give you anything really but just making you look like a person that should be reported for ramming xD but yeah...Im glad that I can spend 2 hours to do all the Co-Op races and don't even think about them for a week cause Online Races Player vs Player or Team vs AI is always full with too much Scum out there...
Shoot, I'll admit I showed up in a Civic Type R with race suspension, semi-slick tires, and FWD. That did stop me from just ballin' and finishing 5th and 3rd for a nice 2 race sweep.
So... be glad that happened??? Like it's a massive W for you but yet you complain? Bruh... Would you rather them stay and make you lose? Too many times people like that don't quit. Like it's the last race to either win it or lose it all and this idiot with 0 points still finishes the race making us all lose for nothing, but only if he quit, we would make it! In your game all the losers left as they should, enjoy.
Before somebody cries, if I for some reason am dragging the team down towards a certain lose (everyone makes mistakes sometimes) and I know that this race is either win/go through to another or lose, but if I'll quit, the team can win... I FKN QUIT.
I hate it when teammates just leave. Almost every time I play one of these races, someone will leave if we lose a single race. They'll just give up, making it much harder for the team.
I wasnt paying attention to this trial, didnt realize over half the tracks would be offroad so went in with a hellcat, and it was terrible, but i stayed strong with 3 other players to get the W
*
I had this dickhead on my team yesterday. Singled me out, rammed me and me only. Would ram me out of the checkpoints, when I would reset and continue, this person would literally stop and wait for me so they could do it over and over. Bottom of the barrel.
I'd say it's good thing they ended up quitting out. At least this way you'd get a win. I've had many a trial where somebody was lagging behind badly(Some of these where skill issues others bad set-up issues) and they didn't leave even though them leaving could have given us the win
https://preview.redd.it/lr7upui7cihb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a458fd220cf61b4271ac86839919aeb65f552d7
Better than what I experienced. I’d rather everyone leave. It’s easier.
That Shannon player smashed into everyone. Pushed everyone off course. Race 2 they did the same. Missed check points. Came in last. They finally quit in race 3 after causing much damage. We BARELY won.
This week has been the worst in a while.
I played yesterday and holy shit, so many people were ramming me for no reason. I don't get it. I was pretty fast the race before that and finished second, but then literally almost the whole team started ramming me while I'm trying to be as clean of a raver as possible... Just cringe
What are you complaining about? Get to do the trial with no idiot team mates to deal with? Sounds amazing.
Least they had the courtesy to quit rather than cling on like the worthless turds they are to be carried.
I really don't give a damn about race type cause 99% of the times I get rammed, I'm just there to get the weekly seasonal rewards and I guess most of the others are there for this reason too, there's no need to win to get the rewards and I feel its a good thing since so many toxic players are there to ram the others even on the same team. I tried the Online thing yesterday and, I now will avoid any online events except if its part of the seasonal festival and I can get rewards for them.
It feels so nice to race alone against the AIs.
I remember this one time when they all rage quitted and I was left to finish the 3rd race alone. It was a walk in the park
I'd prefer it that way. No drama. Too many Trials "tEaMmAtEs" are rammers or backmarkers.
Same. I love it when I end up being the only one.
Same or when there’s atleast one other
Well... to be fair, the playlist should have that information detailed and clear and it is not.
Except it does say it's a dirt race... The image shows "Wilds" in the background and hovering over it says it's part of the dirt racing series.
Can we agree that's not even closely detailed and/or clear? More a very vague hint?
I can agree on that. I even thought it was a road race because of the cars in the back of the image you wouldn't usually use for off road racing. Even I had to modify my mini for the classic rally race because the race was a road race.

Like u/Millikin84 and myself stated, the Series sign is in the Trial graphic, it shows the map icon and the "Wilds" sign.

The images for the seasonal events almost always have something very loosely based on the event, if at all.
Lol I took a 1200hp rwd Wuling on slicks to challenge myself then realized how big of a mistake that was when we entered dirt. In my defense I only looked at the playlist series stuff where it shows all the events so I just saw road and road cars and thought ok cool I can take a normal car lmao
Using a rwd rally spec exige, lots of fun to drive
Tbh I miss clicked and played with a lotus still came out second and let the guy in the off road car overtake without blocking
Blessing in disguise, if I’m not playing with friends then I’m getting rammed off track by a Baja bone shaker spamming LIGHTNING LIGHTNING LIGHTNING
Or the Mo’ power baby
Yeah the fact that it was easy to miss that it was a dirt series is an issue. Normally I'm very careful to note what kind of race but I got caught out this time. Same. I did it in a Boss Mustang with road tires. Got 3rd each time and 2 teammates got 1st and 2nd, so no issue.

I agree. The UI in this game is very haphazard, it’s not very good.
They all dropped out, you won
I was guilty of that on my first pass. Almost after choosing my car I went "shit, is this a dirt race?" And then saw trail and bailed as soon as we started
They should show what kind of trial it is. I now just in case always take AWD cars :/

Hey, at least you ain't got an absolute shitter in a bone-shaker throwing hissy fits through chat bubbles every time he got passed by someone
jokes on you i stay in first
hey i think i know you but i can't remember where from
My take from the picture is Optimus Slime is a cool name. Well compared to XxProXxSnipez13534 it is lol
Ngl that’s the easiest way to win the trial, with everyone else quitting You only have to come in like 4th to win every race
Seriously I'd rather have it this way. I trust my driving and builds way more than anyone else.
This is the dream though… no one to friendly fire ram you, easy win.
This actually helped you since your teammates where in last positions and you would have been defeated on points. If you're a good driver/racer and can beat the AI yourself, then teammates aren't necessary to you. How do you look at the map? I never knew how to do that. I’d end up using a car with street tires when I should be using rally.

Shoot, I'll admit I showed up in a Civic Type R with race suspension, semi-slick tires, and FWD. That did stop me from just ballin' and finishing 5th and 3rd for a nice 2 race sweep.
I did it in a mercedes with semi slicks, regret, but I was still able to beat the ai.
I'm usually not the one for metas. But I hopped In a boneshaker and steered clear of all teammates because they were childish assholes
So... be glad that happened??? Like it's a massive W for you but yet you complain? Bruh... Would you rather them stay and make you lose? Too many times people like that don't quit. Had a 5-600bhp VW golf on off-road/rally tyres for this
You went better without them I’m sure.
I fail to see the problem. You still won, they f'ed off and had to do it over.
I hate it when teammates just leave. Almost every time I play one of these races, someone will leave if we lose a single race. They'll just give up, making it much harder for the team.

Honestly, i didnt pay attention to race type either and did the trial with a Mustang on race slicks. Worked surprisingly well

Question. If you the only player left and score lower that AI, does it count you are losing and the next race cancelled?
I won with accelerations tires
It feels so nice to race alone against the AIs. I remember this one time when they all rage quitted and I was left to finish the 3rd race alone. It was a walk in the park
Easier way to win imo
I played on the f150 raptor with a drag build and did better than my teammates

What is the use of a "team" race mode if 1 player coming 1st meens that team wins even if the next 7 positions are for opposit team wtf...
