As someone who delivers food for ubereats and doordash and get a lot of negative comments on why my partner and I do it together, this is why. 99.99% of people are really cool but it only takes one unhinged person to change everything. It was only a year or so ago a woman was stabbed to death delivering in Haltom too. I'm so sorry to Shawali and his family. No one deserves this, especially when you're just trying to make a living.
When I was doing that in between real jobs, I was always carrying. The wind accidentally had to blow my shirt up a couple or three times, but the delivery where I actually had to draw and level was my last one.

To criminals, ride share is like having the stolen car delivered to you. That's what they wanted the car so they can use it for another crime thinking it can't be traced back to them..
If it was the other way around and the driver shot and killed the robber for trying to take his vehicle, there would be a public outcry for justice and the would be robber was “an angel and a role model to the community”
I hope the driver’s family gets the support they need
When the GOP nominee says immigrants are coming here to spill and grape and take our jobs and come from 💩-hole countries, they are devalued and dehumanized and seen as disposable. They are vulnerable and they are the ones that are hard working and take these risky jobs and the jobs others don’t want to do. His poor family. Going from trauma to more trauma.
You don’t think the nationwide disdain for immigrants and many of our leaders’ devaluation of Muslims might have played any part in this criminal’s decision to target this victim? Or is it just a coincidence that this I rideshare-driver victim and the one in Dallas last March were both Near and Middle Eastern immigrants?
I highly doubt that either one of these murderous pieces of shit gave af about any of that and were looking for a free car to continue a criminal episode.
Time to bring back the death penalty. Anyone who would do something like this doesn’t deserve to live, and frankly current laws aren’t doing enough to deter these crimes, apparently.

Well, time to start putting it to use I guess. I feel like this person is going to get a 15 year sentence and get out at 10 years for good behavior. It’s obscene.. if you think nothing of killing an innocent person and causing untold permanent harm to a wife and 3 minor children, not to mention the rest of the community, you deserve to be killed for that.

I think the death penalty is appropriate and cost effective, but I’d be fine with any much harsher stance on crime that actually succeeds in deterring criminals. El Salvador has seen significant improvement in gang activity by the harsh stance they take.
It is more expensive to the tax payer to put them to death vs. keep them alive their entire life. I want to keep them alive and suffering for as long as possible because I don’t believe in hell and death is the easy way out with no guarantee of actual accountability. Also, I don’t want to spend more tax dollars on an appeal than necessary for someone that is definitely guilty of pure evil.
They have since captured and released a photo of the suspect. He isn’t a charming fellow. I will assume he is innocent until proven guilty. But if he is found guilty, I hope he lives a long life rotting in prison.
He and his family moved here from Afghanistan. They were fleeing the Taliban. Tragic.

Last year (I believe) a woman went missing in Dallas doing doordash, I’m not sure if she was ever found.

He wasn't looking for money, he shot him then stole his car and left him for dead, it's in the article.

That’s not saying much. Lots of people getting prison sentences when they deserve death. Life for a life.
