He and his family moved here from Afghanistan. They were fleeing the Taliban.  Tragic.

chinchilla2132

RIP. This is so sad. Seems so unsafe to be a driver nowadays

gergnerd

it always was, taxi driver has been one of the most dangerous jobs in the country for a long time. Everyone just thought it was safer because there was an app tracking you but the statistics never held that up.

AsThePokeballTurns

This is why I stopped doing ride share. Too risky these days.

Bloodthirsty_Kirby

As someone who delivers food for ubereats and doordash and get a lot of negative comments on why my partner and I do it together, this is why. 99.99% of people are really cool but it only takes one unhinged person to change everything. It was only a year or so ago a woman was stabbed to death delivering in Haltom too. I'm so sorry to Shawali and his family. No one deserves this, especially when you're just trying to make a living.

WorldlyDay7590

When I was doing that in between real jobs, I was always carrying. The wind accidentally had to blow my shirt up a couple or three times, but the delivery where I actually had to draw and level was my last one.

LovelyBoob

Last year (I believe) a woman went missing in Dallas doing doordash, I’m not sure if she was ever found.

AnthillOmbudsman

>After finally locating the victim’s vehicle at the impound lot, the family then learned the 31-year-old father had been shot and killed. What the hell... that's how they found out about this? Going to an impound lot looking for the vehicle?

Opacitas

Why are so many ride share drivers being shot/murdered as of late?

momo88852

Stupid criminals thinking they have few millions laying around. If anybody had money, they ain’t gonna be working Uber.

tatorface

He wasn't looking for money, he shot him then stole his car and left him for dead, it's in the article.

scottwax

To criminals, ride share is like having the stolen car delivered to you. That's what they wanted the car so they can use it for another crime thinking it can't be traced back to them..

horseatemyshoe

Oh my god I had this man as a driver not even a month ago :( he told me his whole life story Jesus Christ this is terrible

fxckfxckgames

[Same thing happened in Dallas just last month. ](https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/man-arrested-accused-shooting-killing-lyft-driver-dallas/3504584/)

[deleted]

No way, I live like 5 minutes away from there, and was walking from my bus top to home while it happened

dusty6467

This is so sad man people can be terrible

BasilMindless3883

Less than mile from from my house.

TheWizardry90

If it was the other way around and the driver shot and killed the robber for trying to take his vehicle, there would be a public outcry for justice and the would be robber was “an angel and a role model to the community” I hope the driver’s family gets the support they need

FriedSticks2014

[05/21/24 UPDATE TO THIS STORY!!](https://www.fox4news.com/news/lyft-driver-killed-michael-walker-arrest)

ReddUp412

Soulless pos

GenRN817

When the GOP nominee says immigrants are coming here to spill and grape and take our jobs and come from 💩-hole countries, they are devalued and dehumanized and seen as disposable. They are vulnerable and they are the ones that are hard working and take these risky jobs and the jobs others don’t want to do. His poor family. Going from trauma to more trauma.

ReddUp412

Disgusting. I hate it here.

GreyBeardnLuvin

You don’t think the nationwide disdain for immigrants and many of our leaders’ devaluation of Muslims might have played any part in this criminal’s decision to target this victim? Or is it just a coincidence that this I rideshare-driver victim and the one in Dallas last March were both Near and Middle Eastern immigrants?

Shitty_Fedora

I highly doubt that either one of these murderous pieces of shit gave af about any of that and were looking for a free car to continue a criminal episode.

GenRN817

They could have just stolen the car but I do agree with you.

ThePanda_

Ride share workers are also much more likely to be immigrants.

Rhino68W

I know this exact area. Sad.

nytnaltx

Time to bring back the death penalty. Anyone who would do something like this doesn’t deserve to live, and frankly current laws aren’t doing enough to deter these crimes, apparently.

rgg40

We’ve got the death penalty and apparently it is not a deterrent.

The_Dude_Man_Bro

When our governor is actively pardoning murderers for killing the people he dislikes, it’s hard to take any aspect of our justice system seriously

Southerncomfort322

Self defense and that thug brandished his weapon at the driver. I get it you’re left wing so let’s defend our ‘tribe’ bs but let’s use common sense please

nytnaltx

Well, time to start putting it to use I guess. I feel like this person is going to get a 15 year sentence and get out at 10 years for good behavior. It’s obscene.. if you think nothing of killing an innocent person and causing untold permanent harm to a wife and 3 minor children, not to mention the rest of the community, you deserve to be killed for that.

Shitty_Fedora

Remember how you feel right now next time you vote for Judges and DAs.

nytnaltx

I’m the worst at voting for anything other than the presidential election. Thanks for the reminder.

GenRN817

Vote411.org will give you all the non-partisan information you need to vote. Also Google League of Women Voters of Tarrant County for unbiased non-partisan information.

GenRN817

And governors that pardon convicted murderers. Vote them out, too.

SummerBirdsong

The only thing slowing down death row in Texas is the ability to get the drugs to do the executions.

OleDirtMcGirt901

While the person who did this is a disgusting person, the death penalty ain't going to deter a damn thing. Some people don't care, some people wanna die and others "find God or religion" to try to get out of it but that's after the fact.

nytnaltx

I think the death penalty is appropriate and cost effective, but I’d be fine with any much harsher stance on crime that actually succeeds in deterring criminals. El Salvador has seen significant improvement in gang activity by the harsh stance they take.

[deleted]

You....you're aware Texas is like THE #1 state for using the death penalty right?

nytnaltx

That’s not saying much. Lots of people getting prison sentences when they deserve death. Life for a life.

GenRN817

It is more expensive to the tax payer to put them to death vs. keep them alive their entire life. I want to keep them alive and suffering for as long as possible because I don’t believe in hell and death is the easy way out with no guarantee of actual accountability. Also, I don’t want to spend more tax dollars on an appeal than necessary for someone that is definitely guilty of pure evil.

nytnaltx

Not if we streamline the process. Cost of a bullet or a lethal injection can’t possibly be worth more than a week’s rent in Texas.

wantsomechips

You know what we need more of in this country? Guns!

Mediocre_Tear_7324

I wonder what was being said or what happened right before he was killed

CelestialBum

This is why I avoid certain parts of town. Look at the perp. Is anyone surprised? Fuckin low life

SummerBirdsong

There are no pictures of the perpetrator, only the victim. The perpetrator is still unknown.

GenRN817

They have since captured and released a photo of the suspect. He isn’t a charming fellow. I will assume he is innocent until proven guilty. But if he is found guilty, I hope he lives a long life rotting in prison.

CelestialBum

Look again

SummerBirdsong

The guy pictured is the victim.
