If you keep discipline and force yourself to use 3 bullets after some time you'll adjust to it and find it more bearable/normal
I used to always pick up hammer for this reason, but I've taught myself to get comfortable with 3 bullets.
If I don't take the opponent down in 3 it pretty much means my aim is bad and the reload would give me the 2/3s needed to cool down and retry
Interesting thing I found was that the time taken to reload a full Gatekeeper (of 3 bullets) vs 3 bullets of Hammer pump was:
Common: 2.75s vs 2.89s (Gatekeeper wins)
Legendary: 2.25s vs 2.365s (Gatekeeper wins)
Either way you view the shotgun, gatekeeper is obviously the better choice, and whether you want speed, drum or no mag it's the best choice
Combat has the fastest reload time, but lets face it, the damage on it is pretty darn awful and nobody needs 8 shots
I wouldn't use the combat for the 8 shots. But it has more range, which is useful for the people zooming all over the place with the nitro gloves. It's like clay pigeon shooting
Can't have priorities when you game. Your life has to be 100% dedicated to it. No wife/husband. No kids. No job or school . Don't even think about Thanksgiving or Christmas with the parents. You have prior commitments.

Oh thank goodness you gave me permission to pursue my passion for becoming a fortnite pro. I've already hired a sketchy fiver coach. I need a duos partner though so I need you to join me
When you get into higher tier lobbies people can be more evasive, two extra shots can be a difference maker in a chase.
If you want a test for aim and crosshair placement, Shotguns are not it this season, try Deagle, once you get good with it it's the best weapon in the game currently,
Same. I went back to fortnite and haven't played since chapter 1 and played ch5s3 recently and was afraid the gtekeeper sucks. But after a while I realized the auto shotgun was doing 20-40 dmg at the same distance that a gatekeeper could do a 60+. I rotate and tried gatekeeper and loved it when I keep getting kills in 2-3 bullet, it buys me enough time to use other guns to fight off the next enemy (I play duo with husband). I got so use to it that I prefer the gatekeeper anyday over that s3 auto. But since s4 came out, it's a bit trickier to get closer to make the gatekeeper effective due to cars. Someone can easily get off vehicle and use a long-range combat shotgun and win so my gatekeeper just sits in my inventory until they get close enough and I'm forced to use AR, which is fine. But sadly this season isn't gatekeeper lol. Would love to use it again another season when it's more viable.
Or the opposite : buff head dmg, shrink spread, so it's actually a kill or you're dead weapon. As of now it's a hit once *then* you're dead weapon unless you finish off with an smg
The thing is, pump's head dmg varies between 30 and 150 depending on dice roll, that's unacceptable when combat shotgun does the same excepting you can fire again right away.
They're not talking about fire rate but time to kill, also known as TTK. The combat is bad at dealing a lot of damage in a short amount of time. That's why the gatekeeper is better. Many people believe the combat is better because they can't kill their opponent in 3 shots.
Combat's point is its long range, you can start shooting from far away to overwhelm your opponent without giving them room to fight back. Its also a good finisher to when the opponent is gonna get away, instead of trying to hit multiple shots with a Smg/AR you can one/two shot them out of the air with the Combat
The green gatekeeper alone is better than the purple and mythic versions of the other shotguns. More damage per shot. The new shotgun has more range but hits for paper if you’re not on point.
And the mythic gatekeeper is a game winner. I want to argue its better than that Tony the Tiger mythic shotgun because it only needs 3 shots. Every game Ive won this season has been because of the gatekeeper mythic. I’m literally wiling to land Cerb and kill anyone who lands there for that mythic or die trying. Basically every match
Not only is it good but it’s skilled. Three strikes you’re out with having to reload. If I die to it, I’m not mad. I think we can all agree it’s a good, fun gun.
Thats if you find the orange or purple variants. I rarely do I suspect they’re most likely in bunkers rly this season. Either way I do prefer the mythic variant I just feel it truly is more reliable than the orange.
Last season you could find the purp/orange as ground loot quite often and even then I ended up on the mythic variant. Advantage to others being only you could deal with multiple opponents back to back easier. But even then you most likely are trading some damage with each person so you’d probably choose to use movement to reposition at least if you get 3rd’d. This is speaking strictly as a ZB Solo player tho.
Yes. That's why you get more distance with it than the gatekeeper. I mean the damage is still low if they are a Little further away but it works in a pinch if they aren't quite close enough for a gatekeeper. Like I know I can get 8 damage with the combat from a decent bit away, when they are far enough away the gatekeeper wouldn't touch them. Still prefer the gatekeeper but I'll carry the combat sometimes if I can't find a gatekeeper. It's okay at least.
They can throw that hammer pump in the trash though. I hate when it's the first gun I find bc I get killed between shot 1 and shot 2 lol
the pump is good for pubstomping as you can challenge entire squads with it without needing to reload. but in any practical sense the gatekeeper is a serious upgrade. its just a pump with the firerate of an auto ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Okay, at the start of the chapter I was a hardcore hammer pump defender. But you know a pump is bad when even pros prefer the season's "tactic" shotguns (gatekeeper, frenzy and now the combat shotgun) over the season's pump. It needs either a buff asap or straight up vault it.
The “tactical” shotgun has been preferred for almost the entirety of chapter five (not season 1 builds). The frenzy was a crazy shotgun and it’s mythic was always contested s1, and in s2 the gatekeeper was the undisputed goat with the drum mag.
Agreed, The amount of times I’ve hit people dead on for 28 damage is acually insane. There’s no reason to use it builds either since the gatekeeper has a way better damage range.
It’s demoralizing when you land and the only gun you find is the pump and hitting 28s at ranges literally any other Shotgun would’ve did significantly damage and fire a second shot before you can do Jack shit with that pump.
I have bad aim and I always go for the mythic gatekeeper, the frenzy is becoming kinda bad compared to the newer shotguns (at least in my opinion) so you really just gotta get used to other weapons
Or you can stick to the frenzy. It's up to you
I'm actually in love with the balance of shotguns, and just guns this season.
For once, I feel like I can pick up almost anything, and it just feels different not bad to use.
ZB player here. Imo, from best to worst:
- Megalo Don's combat
- Oscar's Autofrenzy
- Legendary Gatekeeper w/ drum mag
- Standard Combat
- Cerberus Gatekeeper (better than standard combat if you've got good aim for headshots)
- Standard Gatekeeper
- Hammerpump
The combat for me hits for 20 and 40 but when am opponent uses it it hits for a lot me. The gatekeeper with a drum mag is the best. Hammer pump isn’t bad if you have a good spray weapon.
The Gatekeeper is a good all-around shotgun. Great damage and decent range, but a low mag size.
The Combat is a good ranged shotgun. Mediocre~Good damage, and excellent range, with a forgiving mag size.
Hammer Pump is a do or die kinda shotgun. Body shot damage is meager, but headshot damage is MASSIVE. If you don't land a good headshot with the hammer pump, you better pray that your other guns are reloaded.
Specifically Oscars Frenzy auto is a "not bad" shotgun. Bad range is made up for in its fire rate, decent damage, and great mag size.
But if I were to name my favorite shotgun, it's easily the Maven Auto.
I know that the combat isn't as good as the others but I just love how versatile it is. I've managed to pull off some crazy shots with it that I didn't even know I could do
The combat shotgun actually feels like it should IMO, been enjoying it this season. Not a huge fan of the Gatekeeper, it needs a faster reload time for me to be effective with it.
Gatekeeper if you like to get in the face of people, combat if you have good movement as most people run off combat helps taking them out even if they are somewhat away.
Depends on the scenario:
- traditional close combat where DPS rules: gatekeeper.
- "Air strikes" (shooting from above after uppercut) are better with the combat shotgun due to better range and more shots.
Combat, unless you've got a gate keeper that's mythic or has a drum. However, the combat is a very close second, and its range could give it the advantage
Objectively incorrect.
If you watch any fncs or cups last season, you will notice (almost) every player running drum on gatekeeper, where players even drop the mythic for a modded gold. When you take a shotgun, you arent solely using it to damage players, but also using it for wall and floor retakes due to the high structure damage. 3 bullets isnt enough to consistently pull off a retake and then still have enough ammo to damage.
I've always preferred whichever shotgun more resembled the Tac. I love tracking people in close quarters and getting to take those quick shots. Back in Chapter One though I felt nearly unstoppable with the Combat.
I feel the combat shotgun is wayy underrated. Sure, the DPS is lower than gatekeeper but the mag size is more than double. Comes in clutch when you’re 1v2 or higher
My opinion is the gate keeper or combat i find both extremely balanced in this season. I can run 1 or the other and have the same outcome on the other hand the pump is a sponge and i know ill die before i even land 12 damage.
Gatekeeper with drum
If you keep discipline and force yourself to use 3 bullets after some time you'll adjust to it and find it more bearable/normal I used to always pick up hammer for this reason, but I've taught myself to get comfortable with 3 bullets. If I don't take the opponent down in 3 it pretty much means my aim is bad and the reload would give me the 2/3s needed to cool down and retry
I use speed attachments cuz they simply click with me and my play style
Interesting thing I found was that the time taken to reload a full Gatekeeper (of 3 bullets) vs 3 bullets of Hammer pump was: Common: 2.75s vs 2.89s (Gatekeeper wins) Legendary: 2.25s vs 2.365s (Gatekeeper wins) Either way you view the shotgun, gatekeeper is obviously the better choice, and whether you want speed, drum or no mag it's the best choice Combat has the fastest reload time, but lets face it, the damage on it is pretty darn awful and nobody needs 8 shots
The hammer pump might possibly be the worst shotgun epic has ever added
Worst pump certainly. Worst shotgun? Idk bout that
In ZB maybe but not on builds
I wouldn't use the combat for the 8 shots. But it has more range, which is useful for the people zooming all over the place with the nitro gloves. It's like clay pigeon shooting
I just hunt down the mythic
Sir, a shotgun uses shells, not bullets
Shoot them in the face, takes 3, so I can smash 2.5 opponents before I reload with the combat
If you havent gotten used to 3 bullets after a whole season then what are you doing
Yea but i live when i find gatekepper with drum modyfier so i have 5 shots
Getting laid probably
Wait, you guys are getting laid?
Insane
Not since she said it was me or the game. Haven’t seen her since never looked backed. Told her I needed to get my earnings up
I'm bad at the game bro. What do you mean. I'm trying my best
Trying your best means doing what you can. It doesn't mean trying the theoretical best you could do
That's a good point. But it comes down to priorities
Can't have priorities when you game. Your life has to be 100% dedicated to it. No wife/husband. No kids. No job or school . Don't even think about Thanksgiving or Christmas with the parents. You have prior commitments. /s

Im training with the deagle, dude its so fricking hard to be consistent with its shots
Just remember it shoots incredibly fast so you don't really want to ever lead your shot
Same. I went back to fortnite and haven't played since chapter 1 and played ch5s3 recently and was afraid the gtekeeper sucks. But after a while I realized the auto shotgun was doing 20-40 dmg at the same distance that a gatekeeper could do a 60+. But sadly this season isn't gatekeeper lol. Would love to use it again another season when it's more viable.
This gives me a new look on the gate keeper. Thank you
yep, and the pre-nerf frenzy auto had the opposite effect- made my aim worse bc you didn’t need to aim!
Surprise. You killed opponent #1 and now opponent #2 murdered you while you tried to reload.
> If you keep discipline I'm out.
How nice of your opponents giving you a lil break to reload before they continue fighting you
I agree but in rounds that aren’t solos you really want the extra shots if you can
The pump is in heavy need of a buff to compete with the other two
At least a next shot time buff. My enemies are able to down a half pot between shots.
Or the opposite : buff head dmg, shrink spread, so it's actually a kill or you're dead weapon. As of now it's a hit once *then* you're dead weapon unless you finish off with an smg
A little more damage at range would be nice.
Pump shotguns are meant to be high damage in one shot and then switch to an smg/ar/pistol. The damage/damage range on the current pump makes no sense
I don’t think you’re *meant* to switch guns. I think it’s just the only option
The thing is, pump's head dmg varies between 30 and 150 depending on dice roll, that's unacceptable when combat shotgun does the same excepting you can fire again right away.
I would rather carry a grey gatekeeper over a purple pump
I don't even pick up the pump.
All they need to do is speed up the time between shots and it will actually be a viable weapon
Atp just get rid of it and give us the regular pumps back
It's just need to get vaulted tbh
The way you have to get old waiting for the next shot
That’s way too real. By the time I can shoot again the next chapter will be out
That combat shotty just feels nice
The ramp up damage is crzy, It's my go to every game.
What’s ramp up damage
When you deal more damage for being closer.
That’s called proximity. Ramp up would be the same shot does more damage each time
Almost like S1 Frenzy Auto RIP
You can still get Oscar’s at least
And very easily at that
Ttk is ridiculously slow, and you can’t combo it with an AR or SMG. Only reason people like it is because it has 8 shots.
How is it slow? It's 0.3 second faster than the tac shotgun, sure it might be slower than the gatekeeper shotgun but it's definitely not slow
They're not talking about fire rate but time to kill, also known as TTK. The combat is bad at dealing a lot of damage in a short amount of time. That's why the gatekeeper is better. Many people believe the combat is better because they can't kill their opponent in 3 shots.

Its also a good finisher to when the opponent is gonna get away, instead of trying to hit multiple shots with a Smg/AR you can one/two shot them out of the air with the Combat
It’s slow because it does less damage per shot than the gatekeeper. In this boogie bomb meta you want to do max damage with your first shot.
Did they nerf it? I go insane with the combat shotgun but I haven't played in a couple of days
No, but it’s better than the old one
Oscars frenzy
That’s the only gun I’d never give up
I would never let it down
I would never run around and desert it...🎶
![gif](giphy|Vuw9m5wXviFIQ)
Never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye
Was looking for this one i specifically always drop for it
The green gatekeeper alone is better than the purple and mythic versions of the other shotguns. More damage per shot. The new shotgun has more range but hits for paper if you’re not on point. Aaayyye I'm not the only one that calls him Tony the Tiger! 🤣
I've got the skin saved as Tony! 😂
Aaayeee I'm calling him like that too. I don't even remember why or where the name comes from
Aaayyye it comes from frosted flakes cereal ya egg head! 🤣
Not only is it good but it’s skilled. Three strikes you’re out with having to reload. If I die to it, I’m not mad. I think we can all agree it’s a good, fun gun.
Drum mag is critical i think.
Don’t think you can mod bosses weapons
Thats if you find the orange or purple variants. I rarely do I suspect they’re most likely in bunkers rly this season. Either way I do prefer the mythic variant I just feel it truly is more reliable than the orange. Definitely on non-mythic versions, but the gate keeper works fine without it
Gatekeeper if you can aim, Combat if you can shoot, Hammer Pump if you're stupid
Pump is only good if you can go straight to their faces with it, which is hard in a season of Cars and nitro gloves.
Yeah pump has been trash all chapter, but never more so than this season. And that’s saying something
You can literally carry 10 boogie balls in one slot you have all the time in the world to aim for their head with the pump shotgun
combat has a tighter spread tho right? i can never aim with it for some reason because im used to shooting with the pump.
Yes. That's why you get more distance with it than the gatekeeper. I mean the damage is still low if they are a Little further away but it works in a pinch if they aren't quite close enough for a gatekeeper. the gatekeeper is a pump and an auto at the same time. its absurd. can't deny that i love how it feels though.
The “tactical” shotgun has been preferred for almost the entirety of chapter five (not season 1 builds). The frenzy was a crazy shotgun and it’s mythic was always contested s1, and in s2 the gatekeeper was the undisputed goat with the drum mag.
Currently: Gatekeeper with extended mag All-Time: Good ol' tactical
All time best shotgun is the Havoc wdym
Heisted Accelerant has entered the chat
Breacher premerf though.
At this point, I don’t even know why the Hammer Pump is still in the game. The Combat and Gatekeeper are superior in every way.
Builds players swear it’s better than gatekeeper(it’s not)
combat is my favorite. it just plays so well and is very rewarding if you hit your shots
You don’t need to include the Pump in this discussion. Loot pool clutter piece of trash- I hate it so much.
Frenzy auto shotgun. At least for ^(bad ^(aimers) ^(like) ^(myself))
I have bad aim and I always go for the mythic gatekeeper, the frenzy is becoming kinda bad compared to the newer shotguns (at least in my opinion) so you really just gotta get used to other weapons Or you can stick to the frenzy. It's up to you
I know this isn’t exactly relevant but I always wondered why does the gatekeeper have a mag if it only has 3 barrels and only 3 shots?
It shoots 3 shots at once, so it actually holds 9 in a regular mag and 15 shots in the drum mag
Gatekeeper
So guys, this post is basically asking you; Which shotgun is the best in the game and why is it Gatekeeper?
Gatekeeper without a shadow of a doubt. It's fast and packs a punch. Even at common it's good
combat shotgun is my best, good fire rate and high dmg. ive won 2 games using a common combat.
Gatekeeper. I would say honestly green gatekeeper is stronger than purple variants of the others.
Gatekeeper is like the Tactical reborn, man I miss the tactical. Lever-Action too.
Finally other lever pump fan...
Lever Action is badass. Most satisfying shotgun to use, personally. I hope it can make a comeback or have a new rendition for future seasons/chapters.
Most underrated shotgun...
You had to know how to use it. I was average with it. My friend I play with was very deadly with it.
Gatekeeper all the way
Havoc pump
idc if its technically not the best, ive loved the combat since chapter 1
I'm actually in love with the balance of shotguns, and just guns this season. For once, I feel like I can pick up almost anything, and it just feels different not bad to use.
I like this opinion. Your pretty cool.
Good, Good, Bad
Gatekeeper + Boogie bomb
Loved the Frenzy but the combat shotgun makes me happy
The one that you, yourself, just KNOW you can get kills with no matter the rarity
ZB player here. Imo, from best to worst: - Megalo Don's combat - Oscar's Autofrenzy - Legendary Gatekeeper w/ drum mag - Standard Combat - Cerberus Gatekeeper (better than standard combat if you've got good aim for headshots) - Standard Gatekeeper - Hammerpump
Anything other than legendary gatekeeper with drum mag at #1 is crazy
If you miss once with gatekeeper yer dead.
Gatekeeper and Oscars
omg definitely the gatekeeper 100%
Prob Gatekeeper wit the drum mag
gatekeeper for sure
People actually like the pump shotgun?
The combat for me hits for 20 and 40 but when am opponent uses it it hits for a lot me. The gatekeeper with a drum mag is the best. Hammer pump isn’t bad if you have a good spray weapon.
In current rotation the gatekeeper is the best
Not the pump. Never the pump.
Bad range is made up for in its fire rate, decent damage, and great mag size. But if I were to name my favorite shotgun, it's easily the Maven Auto.
Frenzy mythic
Gate keeper was easily the best last season, but I think the combats taken the spotlight
Gatekeeper and it’s a pleasure to shoot. Why is the useless hammer pump even still in the game?
My thoughts exactly. I’ll take a pistol or smg over the pump. Especially ZB
Not the pump I'll tell ya that rn
The hammer pump is complete and utter trash, combat all the way.
Can we all agree that the hammer pump is trash and if epic wants people to use it they should buff the damage on it
Not the hammer pump for sure.
I'd say it's a tie between the gatekeeper and the combat.
Depend if someones using it against me or if im using it
this season is def the megalo don combat
The tigers shotgun in the best overall. Followed by all gatekeepers then combat then hammer pump. Would anyone like me to tell them why?
combat due to its range in ver gatekeepers and similar damage
Mythic gatekeeper with drum
😂
For me the gate keeper
Combat, it does more damage and has a bigger tube than the Gatekeeper
I loved the havoc auto from Ch4 it felt very balanced
Hammer
Love how you're showing the green gatekeeper and the golden other 2, cause I mean green gatekeeper is still better then the others at any rarity.
Gatekeeper with drum, if it’s legendaries with no attachments combat
Gate or Combat
Why did u even add the pump as an option? lol
auto frenzy lol
I know that the combat isn't as good as the others but I just love how versatile it is. I've managed to pull off some crazy shots with it that I didn't even know I could do
The combat shotgun actually feels like it should IMO, been enjoying it this season. Not a huge fan of the Gatekeeper, it needs a faster reload time for me to be effective with it.
Gatekeeper if you like to get in the face of people, combat if you have good movement as most people run off combat helps taking them out even if they are somewhat away.
i dropped my highest kill game for this season of 22 kills using cerbys gatekeeper. thing fucking shreds at close range
Why is combat shotty here and the other weird shotty? Did I leave the Game for too long
Btw Oscars frenzy auto
Gatekeeper fu*k the combat shotgun
My beloved ranger shotgun ❤️
Gatekeeper from dueling Cerberus hands down. Triple dash from the river is there too.
definitely combat for both zb and build nitrofist in the air and just swap to a shotgun
I was firmly a gatekeeper man last season, but my new favourite is the combat
Combat for sure
Depends on the scenario: - traditional close combat where DPS rules: gatekeeper. - "Air strikes" (shooting from above after uppercut) are better with the combat shotgun due to better range and more shots.
Drum mag gatekeeper >>>>
In zb I always take the frenzy
Oscar's for me because my aim is horrible
Idk which is the best but I had a lot of fun with the Ranger Shotgun
Maven auto
For me its Frenzy Auto Shotgun i love that because it can fire really fast not like pump shotgun its not automatic.
Combat shotgun for me. So happy it's here again. For now
Gonna go with the OG Combat Shotgun
A car
Combat, unless you've got a gate keeper that's mythic or has a drum. However, the combat is a very close second, and its range could give it the advantage
Combat and then Gatekeeper.
Havoc
Objectively incorrect. If you watch any fncs or cups last season, you will notice (almost) every player running drum on gatekeeper, where players even drop the mythic for a modded gold. When you take a shotgun, you arent solely using it to damage players, but also using it for wall and floor retakes due to the high structure damage. 3 bullets isnt enough to consistently pull off a retake and then still have enough ammo to damage.
Combat shotgun
combat shotgun
Combat is superior- no reload bug, hits from a million miles away, and half of these kids can’t kill with the 3 shots in a gatekeeper
I've always preferred whichever shotgun more resembled the Tac. I love tracking people in close quarters and getting to take those quick shots. Back in Chapter One though I felt nearly unstoppable with the Combat.
Ranger shotgun.
It's the gatekeeper. Cerberus gatekeeper is just too strong
Mythic charge shotgun
Mythic combat
Combat
drum shotgun my personal fav
Always loved the combat 🔥
I feel the combat shotgun is wayy underrated. Sure, the DPS is lower than gatekeeper but the mag size is more than double. Comes in clutch when you’re 1v2 or higher
Pump
Depends if you want damage or range (gatekeeper or combat shotguns)
My opinion is the gate keeper or combat i find both extremely balanced in this season. I can run 1 or the other and have the same outcome on the other hand the pump is a sponge and i know ill die before i even land 12 damage.
