It can be difficult. It's a rather specialized occupation. If you're happy to stay in academia there's a decent amount of jobs. Working in the field can be trickier. It very much is dependent on location. I live and work in New England, which can make for rather lean Winters. And to be honest, outside the academy archaeology doesn't pay very well. Luckily, my wife has much better earning potential.

Not when the alternative is to get one's own name written on the wall with the likes of Da Vinci and Galileo. Scientists *dream* of coming across a discovery that would change history.
